Please, please, please let this be true! Zoo are reporting that Konami have finally dumped the abysmal combination of Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking.
http://www.pesgaming.com/blog/wp-content/photos/lawrochampion.jpg
The new pairing is said to be ITV's Jon Champion and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson. I think Jon Champion has one of the best commentary voices around, and although not the biggest fan of 'Lawro' at times, he surely can't be any worse than Trevor Brooking.
What must be remembered though is that the commentary for the last few years on PES hasn't been poor just because of who they got to do it. The scripting MUST be improved this time around - and with acres of room on the disc to play with I don't see why we can't have tons of new scripting and a whole better feel to the commentary altogether.
Then again, this is Konami we are talking about - we all know they can easily mess up the simplest of details.
Thanks to the NickSCFC via the WENB (http://www.winningelevenblog.com) team for the news.
I hope there will be new commentators. Let this be true.
EDIT: What I meant was not to always be repetitive.
For graphics and game-play, I like PES, but for commentary I like FIFA. So I hope they have longer scripts for different things you do on the game. Can't wait until the release.
i dont really care who does the commentry
all i care about is like hitmanuk2k for the scripts to be better, and not messed up

Jon Champion and the abysmal Mark Lawrenson could be worse. The previous(?) duo just needed decent scripting and application of the commentary to gameplay.
if the scripts are right than the commentry will be right

Zoo said it was way better than the previous commentators, i sont think it could of got any worse, Champion has a wonderful commentary voice and Lawrenson is quite funny at times, if the script is written well it should be quite good

Please let it be true. I also hope that they fix the bug - when you're leading & you change your striker for a striker, the commentator always says that you're going defensive.
It's really annoying

Let this be untrue, I'd prefer Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking then that fool Champion and Mark "Thatched roof style haircut" Lawrenson.

It's about time they had a change in commentators. Brooking hasn't been a commentary pundit for 5 or 6 years, and I haven't heard Brackley in a long time either.

Should have been Tyler. Does he do Fifa, or is that Motty?
Motty.
I hope it is true also.

Mark Lawrenson is a legend as far as I'm concerned. He's one of the funniest commentators.
I just hope they change the commentators and write the scripts correctly.
Trevor and Peter piss me off all the time, I'd rather listen Umbrella, ella, ella... than their blabbering!

Actua Soccer 2 had the best commentary ever, with Barry Davies. He hardly repeated himself, which was excellent and very unique in a video game.

Barry Davies ftw.
Jon Champion is a cunt where as Lawro is OK. Trevor Brooking is quality and his rambling makes me laugh. In truth I rarely listen to it anymore I have music on.

I think we should applaud the work Brooking and Brackley has done over the years. We might not like it but they put in the hours to help with this game.
Thank You.

i prefer espn/abc's dave o'brien in the states... "swing and a miss!" lol
Jon Champion is going to be a nice change from listening to Peter "I pronounce everything in a tune" Brackley.
Here's hoping that this rumour is true.

Always liked Brackley from his original Football Italia days, though now I
think he mostly does the minor World Cup matches and other tournaments
for ITV and international feeds. Jon Champion has his moments, but I
would miss some of Brackley's terrible delivery.
Calzone and Barndoor, Motson was replaced on FIFA the
year before last. The main commentator is Tyldesley.

Champion's commentary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6uzSRUatYM).
The first voice is the summariser Robbie Earle, then it's Champion.
From an international feed, by the looks of it.

Would be great to have the commentry from Jon and Lawro. Please Konami don't fuck up. I remember on the N64 a footy game and evertime you took a shot the commentater would say "It's a long shot" every single time, got on my nerves.

Play ISS3, that will give you an example of Champion and Lawro in a Konami game :)

Great news about those two clowns Brackley and Brooking. Well done Konami if a little late.

I also read that they are changing the commentary team for France, Spain and Italy, anyone can confirm?
IGN: "Another area that's been revamped for PES 2008 is the commentary, which is now handled by John Champion and Mark Lawrenson. Now, most of the match is commentated on by one person (in this case Champion), much like watching a game on Sky Sports, with the other commentator chipping in at key moments during the action. It works remarkably well and provides a more natural soundtrack to the game. It's scaleable too, so rather than simply choosing to have the commentary on or off it's possible to have it kick in only when the ball is in the final thirds of the pitch, or when the action hots up on the field."

aren't we all?
Best commentry was on Olympic Soccer.

The dryness and boring of Lawro will be a treat.
Champion: Great game eh Mark?
Lawro: Sure...
or
Champion: What are they doing wrong Mark?
Lawro: At the Merment John, I couldn't care.
If the scripts are along these lines I will once again be able to listen to PES rather than mute it and listen to moosic.

Jon Champions sounds great!!
I hate current pes commentary, whenever I hear it I just want to alt+f4 :D hence I changed it to Fifa commentary.
This is great news...
