But we tend to think that PES’s number is almost up because, despite the gap in gameplay quality, FIFA is closing in and it will only narrow further as EA master their rebuilt engine.
Look at that.

Sounds as if PES still has the edge gameplay wise this year then.
Sounds as if PES "just" has the edge gameplay wise this year! Next year will need to see a major effort put in from konami or the dreaded might indeed happen
Well Fifa has got closer and will get the nod of football game of the year if PES keeps up this pace.

Great work for FIFA but PES is always the best when it comes to gameplay.

I'm actually intrigued to play FIFA now, whereas I have never been in the past.
Saying that, i'm even more intrigued to play PES 2008.
I played the demo last night, and it's horrible to play.
FIFA 08 - Sweet beard of Zeus! That game is horrible.
Horrible.
hmmmm, i may be buying both this year

Man, honestly youd be better off just buying Pro Evo. I downloaded the demo of FIFA and its god awful.
The best thing about the game is the like loading thing where you are Ronaldinho and you just be hittin shots against the keeper - Thats all.

Amen to that, amigo.
I downloaded it and have now deleted it.
It's put my mind to rest about all this jive talking "Fifa is catching up to PES"
Played FIFA08 demo at a mate and i have to say it just POO!
PES WINS!
The worst thing is.....people will assume its us being biased......but the game is poo.....i mean with pro i have the ability to what i want with the player who i am in control of...i have had the demo for 2 days now and i still cant perform a pass with decent pace on it for the life of me....its always this little touchy feely shittly 8 year old pass that is always gunna get cut off. Player animations are pretty cool for instance some of the one touch stuff......but as far as blistering counter attacks and genuine pace in you game go....The game is wank
FREakyyy

Tis a horrible, horrible game indeed. No responsiveness, no "overal feel" and I must say that the player likeness is amazing...If you're into clay figurines.....
1st post!!Whoot
I thought it was as pretty decent game. Some of the player look totally fake but the overall feel of the game was good for me. I was actually excited when I scored a goal. That's has never happen to me in previous Fifa's.

Just downloaded the Fifa demo...its ok i guess but theres just something about that i just don't like, the graphics are quite impressive but after playing a half it just seems rather boring compared to pro evo, can't get used to the controls either >.<
people dont buy FIFA,dont even download the new demo cos it sucks..its slow, you cant pass properly,no counter attcks, tackling sucks, the players never make runs when you want them to...aw it is pathetic after every 1 saying it was going to catch up..
I like the slower pace of the gameplay but FIFA still lacks a lot in certain areas. The shooting was painfull. Very difficult to score from even the easiest of chances and the way the ball moves for a shot was stupid. I didnt mind the passes but the response time of the players was awful. You press pass, sit back, watch a dvd on ur other tv, maybe make urself a drink then come back to Fifa and the player is thinking about passing, then when he releases the pass, it has taken so long that it has been intercepted.
And with the tackleing - OH DEAR - it was awful to, i just button mashed and hope for the best cause the 2 ways of normal tackle did nothing.
Now i did give this game a chance and i was very impressed with the look of everything and the feel was ok. The pc version is okish but the ps3 version was a lot different and i did not like it at all. I never actually paid money for a FIFA game and that trend will continue. PES2008 please.

Fifa is just more of the same - I'd rather play ISS on the n64 than Fifa 08 still
PES2008 will piss all over it by default, no matter how slight the improvements are. I gave the Fifa 08 demo a good chance, played it for an hour or so, its just not what it should be. it doesnt flow, the passing is laboured, tackling is just ridiculous, its not a patch on the gameplay of pro evo.

The PC version is current gen mate with the old engine, you need to try the ps3 or 360 version, they are the next gen versions, ive given the ps3 demo at least 6 hours of my time, i have to say as a die hard pro evo player for the last 7 years, i am VERY impressed, its superb, i just hope seabass and his gang have been working as hard this year as ea patently have.
I must that while I'm usually positive about the effort FIFA puts in....the demo on the 360 is shit. There's good points, but they need to find a system that works and then tweak it every year like Konami as they have the presentation covered, it's great as usual.

I hope the new FIFA is as good as the demo seems to promise, if it is then surely to goodness old Seabass will pull out all the stops for next year, i think there can only be one winner if FIFA is good this year, thats US the gamer, i would love to have 2 great footy games to put in my PS3, i think EA have worked very hard this time, lets hope Konami take note for next year.
I just don't see the point in me buying 2 football games to be honest. After playing the FIFA demo there is no chance I'll be buying it and I'll wait patiently for PES'08.

id like to have some of what you're smoking mate! the demo is awful, its worse than the Champions League demo they released
The FIFA demo isn't to bad if you have a little play around with the options, controls and camera.
I put all the crossing, passing etc etc on manual, changed the camera to dynamic 2 (?) and changed the controls so they resembled Pro Evo's and it wasn't too bad. Certainly felt a lot better than it did with the default options.
I'll be buying it, mostly cos I can't wait 38 days for PES and FM. If those two were released earlier, I doubt I'd bother.

First and foremost i am a gameplay man i farken hate FIFA's shitty licences, gimmicks etc...but theyve really stepped up this year!!!
played 08 on PS3 lastnight at my mate mates house, i loathe FIFA been off it since 02....but my opinion has changed, even without editing abilities the graphics are revolutionary, does PES on PS3 have the flowing hair when players are running? and gameplay is up to scratch as well! I might have to buy both this year... if i buy PES!

it just looks gold to me.... GOLD!!!
We still havnt got the FIFA demo here but who cares you know that game with be junk, always is.... no skill in it....
Does anyone know if we will get the commentary options(French, German, Dutch I think) like we did in PES 1 ?
We had Dutch commentary in PES 1? It must've been woeful. But I do hope they still have the foreign commentators, it says so on Wikipedia but can you really trust them? Hmm.

They used to, well they used to have the four different languages. It's only PES6 that didn't...to my knowledge.
Cheers for adding me lads, although it's my brother that is usually playing online. But if it says Playing Pro Evo it's probably me.
I think Fifa 2008 is better this year. They've added some new modes, the gameplays more realistic, the liscenses are better than ever and the graphics are really real. I'll still buy PES but I think Fifa has finally won me this year.

fair enough.....i realy cant see the 'realness' in the graphics though....Player likeness is very poor in terms of physique...and the faces are average at best

And how can he say that when PES isn't even out? What a daft assumption.
