The teams are: Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Spain, France and Turkey.. I think the gameplay is massive compared to last years xbox 360 pro.. The graphics hasn't improved that much, but the gameplay is brilliant!!! The players doesn't "glide" trough the pitch, the ball touch is much more real life this year.

TOKYO--About this time every year, football fans begin to eagerly anticipate the latest release in their favourite gaming franchise. For many people, that game is Pro Evolution Soccer, and there's no doubt that Konami's series has its fair share of hardcore fans around the world. We first encountered the game at last month's Leipzig Games Convention, but as the game is being developed in Japan, its spiritual home is really the Tokyo Game Show. Naturally, it was one of the first demo areas we headed to when the show opened, and we have plenty to update you on.

Before playing the game itself, we took in all that the video demo had to offer while waiting in the queue. The good news is that the game is looking better and better by the month, with a particularly good facial animation system that makes players look unmistakably lifelike. The second piece of great news is that official kits for Newcastle, Valencia, and FC Barcelona seem to be in place, complete with the correct manufacturer logos and sponsorship details. And also on the clothing front, the kits themselves have much better deformation effects than they ever have before.

Moving on from the trailer and onto the game itself, Konami had gone to great lengths to present the game on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as elegantly as possible. Individual sofas were set up in front of large flat-screen TVs, while amps pumped out 5.1 surround sound to high-end speakers. The demo that we played on Xbox 360 offered different, if not more, teams than the Leipzig demo, including Brazil, Portugal, Greece, Spain, France, and Turkey. Noticing that Brazil weren't rated as well as even Greece in terms of defense and teamwork, we opted to play a match as Spain against underdogs Turkey.

The demo itself may have been limited in terms of teams and game modes, but we noticed plenty of new tweaks that had been added in the month since we last played. During the match intro and halftime, the camera now zooms into the crowd to show off the fans, and you can see them chanting and waving banners as they look on. There are also some really nice new animations, meaning that players have a much more convincing weight when you look closely. For example, they now stumble in a much more convincing manner after jumping for a header, and when they're running at full steam you can really see them thrusting their chest forward. Of course, all of this is easier to notice when playing the game in high definition, but there are some noticeably improved touches in the way that players move.

Of course, small nips and tucks are all well and good, but what fans will really be looking forward to is how the new artificial intelligence system will respond to their playing style. We have to say, we found that Turkey provided quite a challenge in our friendly match, to the point where we really never had a good chance on goal. The defenders in particular are very clever about backpedaling and timing tackles. They're much less likely to be intimidated if you run at them, while pulling off a token dummy or feint also failed to get results. In the end, we rather embarrassingly lost 1-0, and to rub salt into the wound it was the result of an own goal.

Pro Evoluton Soccer 2008 is clearly starting to come together, and even though it's more difficult it's still as rewarding as ever. We were also genuinely surprised at how good it's looking graphically, although it's worth noting that the replays still featured a good degree of slowdown, while the pitch itself was lacking detail. We can't wait to play more of the game, especially as all our experiences so far have been with foreign-language versions. Rest assured, we'll be hounding Konami for more on your behalf as soon as we return home.

Well its here and its good, everything seems smoother and the players look so real, fifa used to have the most life like players not anymore most players are instantly recognisable. seems a bit easy to score on any level below professional, and every shot adriano takes seems to hit the back of the net,
also the dive is pretty useless i must of tried it 50 times just to see if the ref could be fooled but he couldnt, but it was worth it just to here the booooooooo,s from the crowd.
this game is quality and should give all doubters reassurance that pes is still the king of football, fifa tryed hard but sory ea.
As in the music to the pes2008 trailer all i wanna do is kick it.

Perhaps if EA would distance themselves from the hockey games fifa might not still feel as if the players are skating on ice

create a new msn account with .co.uk and find a uk postcode.then go to create new account and put all the info in as if your from uk and it should work,ive done it with an american account and it works.it may be a lot slower to download thouh.

I know, but they tend to get it accurate a game or two late. Xabi Alonso for example was shit when he should've been good, then a season late, they improved his stats. Same with Messi.

Fabregas should have better technique and passing.

Woah, just finished downloading like half an hour ago, after 10 hours of doing so (Started the bloody download at 11:30).

Class game so far. Really fluent, and the pitch...actually looks like a pitch. Really in all honesty, it's turned out better then I thought. I thought that the gameplay movement of the player's would be well, rather the same as last years 360 version, which I hated. No, i'm proved wrong. You seem to be able to move a lot better on this one.

Also yeah, if anyone want's any pictures just give us a shout. I'll take some, but with my webcam, even though the quality won't be perfect, it should be easy enough to see.

It looks exactly like the Leipzig version ie. dated graphics. Your right about the speed of the game though...its too fast.

My download took about 5 and a half hours.

I wasn't too chuffed with it, but, that's probably because I still prefer PES5 over any football game. The graphics looked pretty decent, but, it's very fast paced and quite difficult to play after being dominated by Turkey for the entire match with me scraping a 1-0 win.

This game is amazing...its not slow at all, the players are so much more responsive compared to the last version where it felt like you were controlling a tank. In terms of the players they look amazing...just try zooming in on them and detail is quality....much more realistic looking than fifa. Currently playing as Argentina and had this shot with Messi and the keeper pushed it on to the post it looked so realistic!

I'm liking the shooting logistics a lot better, as in if you put a load of power onto it, unlike the last one it doesn't just go straight ballooning in the air, you can actually hit some decent hard, lowish shots from outside the box.

Getting beat off Spain and in the last minute Villa running the ball down in the corner, superb. :)

As for the diving: for PS3 its L1+L2+R1 (winningelevenblog.com)
Dunno what it would be for Xbox360 though.
L1 on Ps3 is the player change button, L2 for tactics and R1 is for sprinting. Perhaps this will make it easier to figure out..

Ok thanks. Currently playing Spain v Argentina. I hated PES6 so much on 360 but this version is fucking well better and alot more flowing. On another note how come Alonso is #12 for Spain instead of 14 lol?

Player animations are really sharp, crowd looks awful though. Liked the gameplay more and more as I played it.

Also I sucessfully pulled off a dive and scored from the freekick. Was running towards the box with Robinho and had a player either side of me and was going no-where so thought I'd take a dive and what do you know, quality.

I'm telling you right now, this diving thing is going to ruin the online experience.. Got three penalties in one game from pressing the diving buttons . You only need like one defender near your back to get a penalty. It will probably be funny in master league, when you are controling the event, but it will be so frustrating online!!! Imagine all the wankers doing this non stop :-(

I don't know what the big fuss is all about. It's alright, but nothing special. Shots are hit far, far too softly, even on full power they float slowly if you're outside of the area. They only seem to hit hard shots from 10 yards out. It's still a decent game, don't get me wrong, but I'm not massively excited about it. It'll take time for me to truly enjoy it, and I will, but for now, the demo is average at best.

I restarted the demo last night and got it in an hour. :doh:

The best player appearance was probably Tuncay. He looked spot on. C. Ronaldo's was also great.

Gameplay wise it felt a bit too fast for me, but was still a lot better than PES6 on the 360.

i dont really see where this teamvision mumbo jumbos coming into it,it is very fast and i can dance around defenders with ease most of the time.it is good tho,graphics,passing shooting.i do think theyalways hit long balls way too hard tho.there is a command list in the game for all those asking for how to dive just give it a look and as for that person who reckons he got 3pens one game i doubt it,i havent had 1 decision go for me.

Why would I lie about getting three penalties?? I played one game where I only explored the diving stuff.. I soon realised that it isn't that difficult to get a penalty. Once you get infront of a defender running behind you, you just need to release the "run" button so the defender gets really close and then dive... I think this option will be fun in master league, but it's going to be a nightmare playing online, unless they disable it!!

i have tried diving when trying to run through three cpu defenders in the box and got booked, ive had about 2 pens out god knows how many attempts of trying to get them, timing has to be ultra perfect (OR LUCKY) even had the defender using arms to shove me off, i dove, and got booked, its great!! gameplay does seem slightly to quick, hope u can slow it, or konami will slow it for release date, other than that im very impressed and cant wait to get my hands on the full game.

I have :) Well, its erm...different to last year. I first i thought, hang on a minute, i'm not too sure about this. But then it grew on me. I like the fact the ball seems seperate to the player, it bounces of players mre if you hit a shot ino a crowded box, and it seems more "lively". The game itself is much quicker, and you play more end to end football. It is almosta return to the grass root of PES, a more arcadey game than the last few versions where you had more build up play. All in all a good preview. I can't wait for the edit mode, and as for the graphics, i was VERY impressed with the close up graphics, but wasn't particularly impressed with the pitch and graphics while playing.

Still better than FIFA 08 though!

Its a trick move. I just started flicking the right analog stick in all directions and managed to do it, but i don't know exactly how to do it

2 and a half minutes. You get a full game of 5 minutes though.

I played PES6 quite often and only ever scored 2 or 3 free kicks and after maybe 20 demo plays I am already on 1. You can strike the ball much nicer.

Also I did a blatant dive earlier and won a penalty.

yeah same here,ive gotten away with just the one inside my own half,i dont like the diving schematics its a tricky button combinitaion that cant be done on the fly for me,id like it to be one button and more animations,i can only seem to dive when shoulder to shoulder id prefer it if when i get tripped and they stay on there feet you could push it to make them stumble to the ground or something,anyways people with some good successful dives should upload them to UTUBE for us!!

Oké i played last night for the first time the demo (8 hours long)

have to say graphics are pretty well, especially when you zoom in to the faces..you can see all the details on each players faces..even a little scar.
the sound of the game like when the goalkeeper saves the ball with one hand..i'ts a real nice sound..it sounds realistic..i love that sound :D
if you play brazil vs argentina you can see an entrance scene of a match.
cpu plays realistic, they open the game also from left to right..
diving is cool, and i also wanna know how you do the nutmeg??

I made some volleys have to say they don't shoot powerfull the volleys?
hope they will fix...

finally got my 1st pen dive and second,missed the 1st pen tho!!!anyone know if you can dive in your own area and give an indirect freekick?

The demo is easily better than anyone expected I think, the gameplay just seems so smooth and the graphics have improved by quite a lot surprisingly, especially when up close.

the demo gets a little tiresome but thats just because of the few teams get repetitive and 5mins just aint enough for me!still better than fifa,im excited coz this is good,not great,good and the guys at the blog say this is the poor version.still needs some fixes like with the pixeled grass,more animation and sone slow down needs sorting.i think alot will change for the release,i dont think they will blast every long ball cross field like they do at the moment,i dont know how they bring some of those cross field balls down so well with all that power on!

Nope, it's whether the game is. The 360 is region free but for some reason some developers decide to put encoding in and some don't.

Pause the game and go down to Command List. Scroll right down to near the bottom in the Attack section and it tells you how to perform all the little dribbles and skills, including the dive move aswell.

my demo seems to go slow when playin there is also alot of bugs in the game like:

1. goalkeepers seem to be parm the ball in there own goal alot.

2. gameplay is fast abit to much lik fifa ( in other words defenders seem to be able to run fast when they shudnt be lol)

3. the ball also seems lik it a lead weight when shooting and passing the ball and the sound of the ball being hit sounds lik a beach ball

The graphics are definitely better. Very polished.
The gameplay seems good, although the running is just odd. Looks like they are moving their legs way too fast. Running on a tredmill :P. ( I really hope this is not the case on the PS3 version). The one thing I love about the PES series is the realistic feel of the gameplay and tredmill running is a negative.
Another thing i find odd is the shooting. I haven't gotten use to it. Feels weaker than PES6.
Finally, I don't know why but the ball physics (gravity) feels a bit off too. Balls seems to drop too fast.
Altogether I feel that the PC demo is alright at best. I don't like how the gameplay seems to have suffered. This is my view though. I'll have to see how the PS3 demo reacts. Maybe its just the PC version.
