Not sure if this is the correct section lol :realmad:

Anyway, im buying a new console next month, obviously to play PES 2008 on  but im not sure what one to buy.

I need some advice off the people who have both (PS3 & 360) or have played both for a reasonable amount of time.

Ive played the 360 a few times since its been released and liked it, but I've only played the PS3 once for a few minutes.

The price of the PS3 is putting me off slightly, so I'm edging towards the 360 cause its basically the same thing but for half the price

Whats the PS3 like online too? anything like X-Box live?

which should i buy. And why ?

Thanks for the help ;)

It comes down to personal preference at the end of the day, mate.

360 does have a lot of first person shooters, and shooting games in general. I've got a 360 only, and I love it at the moment. No, i'm no 'fanboy', as i'm sure the PS3 is good too. You shouldn't however, buy a console just for one game.

Theres no way im missing out on PES 08  lol ;) I sold my PS2 a while back.

Ive been tempted to buy a 360/PS3 since around Jan, but because the games i like most (PES/GTA) haven't been released, i never bothered.

But i think now is the right time

Are the graphics slightly better on the PS3?

Personally, I wouldn't say the graphic's are slightly better on either console.

I had this same problem, mate. 360 or PS3? I made my decision because of Gears of War, and the plenty of quality games out at that time. Whatever console you choose mate, will be great. I'm sure of that.

Ive played both consoles a fair bit, i own a 360. I would honestly say though that there isn't really much difference between the two at this point in time. The only upside in my opinion seems to be network updates. Demos seem to take longer to appear on the PS network compared to live but it really is a matter of taste.

Have a look at future releases, see what games take your fancy.

Also, what consoles are your mates getting/already got?

I chose the 360 cos the online service is better, most of my close friends are 360ers and in my honest opinion, the choice of games on the 360 is much better. Although the PS3 has some great games coming out in the future, so I guess you'll have to compare.

The games are much better on 360 and the online play is far superior. Plus, not to sound cheap or anything, but where I live the 360 is a little more than half of the PS3's cost. It's your decision at the end.

its all a matter of opinion, i have both consoles , so im quite lucky im swaying towards the ps3, purely because it is a lot more accesable for updates etc, if you want to transfer option files, then a ps3 is an easier option, the one thing i love about my ps3, is that you can surf the internet on your internet browser, which is pretty cool, thats what im doing atm lol.~!!!

I have a question about that. Can you surf the internet using the 360?

I dont think you can.....well if you can its a recent addition. i have had an Xbox 360 for a few months but i sold it so i could have enough money for the ps3. I feel that the online community and features of the xbox360 are the only things that are far greater than the ps3's....but with the Playstation Home coming early next year..its only a matter of time until i believe that the ps3's online features will be to the same level probably even greater than the 360's. there is no doubt that the 360 is quality.....i just dont reckon it is as future proof as the ps3 is

In the end it's a matter of personal preference, and only you can decide on that. And to be honest, it doesn't matter a great deal as both consoles are great and there won't be a big margain of difference in years to come. You won't ever regret the decision whichever way you go.

Look at some of the exclusives to help your decision, things like Halo on 360 and MGS on PS3. Of course you shouldn't base it on just these games, but you should look to see which console has more of the games to your taste.

To add my own slight bias on things, I'd say now is the completely neutral period where either console is acceptable, whereas come Christmas onwards I'd suggest buying a PS3. It's case of whether you'd prefer the large catalogue of games already out (360), or you'd be willing to wait a few months before the big exclusives come out (PS3), as over this end of year period the majority of games are multi-format. If you were to ask 6 months ago, I'd be more inclined to say 360, but as time passes by the PS3 should be considered more as the choice to get.

GE

Thanks allot for the help :w00t

I'm swaying towards the PS3 a little now.

With the 360, i'd have to buy:

Wireless Network adapter (Wi-Fi) - £59.99
Play & Charge Kit - £14.99
X-Box Live Subscription - £39.99

360 Console + The above = £364.96
PS3 which has a built in Wi-Fi/Charge Kit/Free Online = £399.99

the ps3 is a fantastic console, so is the 360 to that matter, going by a different game alltogether colin mcrae dirt, the 360 cannot quite handle the frame rate, but the ps3 keeps it up the whole way through, like said above, the ps3 is the future, but im lucky enough to have them both, but im a firm believer of pro evolution soccer was made for playstation, the psp version of pes6 is just as good as the 360 version lol.

Xbox 360 I'd say. Have one personally and is a very good console. Have to say the online service (xbox live) is brilliant, and is much better than the PS Network of the PS3.

Add to that Halo 3 coming out in a few days!!!! Don't think the PS3 will have any exclusives that are anywhere near as good as Halo. Better than the new PES I'd guess, and yes I have played the demo (downloaded from xbox live ;)).

In the end its your choice, thought I'd give you my input though. :)

You'll need to buy one. They're are some cheap ones around that do the job. I wouldn't spend more then 20 quid on one.

It depends what package you buy. Some that include games, and an additional controller may well also have a HDMI too. You'll have to pay close attention to the details given.

Just the basic console + 1 controller doesn't though.

A bluetooth headset so you can chat online. Any should do but I'd recommend a Sony Ericsson one.

This one from play is very popular with PS3 players.

the only difference between blue ray discs and normal 360 discs is the amount you can fit on them. it doesnt mean better games or better graphics.

I'm staying at my sister's house as she has just gone away on vacation with her boyfriend - and incidentally they have a PS3. I myself am more of a 360 fan but it's a nice change. So far no luck in connecting it to the internet properly - not too fussed as his taste is quite different from mine. It's a great console as it has everything a console should have nowadays - slick looks, a comprehensible interface and strong hardware etc.

So far it's just the games that are lacking but in due time I feel it will be a very close race between 2 great consoles. It's mentioned before - the (future) games should be the main part in your decision.

i have both ps3 and 360. right now i really have no use for my ps3. any game that has came out on both systems ive bought it on 360 instead of ps3 because they games play actually a lot better on the 360. i bought a ps3 strictly for pes but now i am really thinking about buying it on 360 instead. ive heard that the ps3 version is not running as smooth on the ps3. the reason i didnt want it for 360 was because of the controller because i like to use the d-pad. after playing with the d-pad on the ps3, its not really that much better so im probably going to end up using the analog wich is a lot better on the 360. the only thing i think the ps3 has going for itself is the disk size for future games but im prety sure microsoft will have an answer for that. anyways im waiting to see if there is any difference between the ps3 and 360 version. if there isnt or the 360 version is better then i will probably get rid of my ps3. the 360 online is defintly worth the price and there is so many better games. i dont really like mgs and 360 has a lot better exclusive games.

My opinion... If you can only have one console, 360 is currently the one to have, if you can have two, get a PS3 too. I have two. ;)

My reasoning... as far as I'm concerned there's only two games to have on the PS3 right now, Motorstorm and Warhawk. That's the only ones I have. Any dual format titles have been better on the 360, right up to and including Skate. There's a long list of 360 games coming out in the next few weeks, not to mention a healthy back catalogue of AAA titles.

That said, I'm not a fan of the PES2008 demo on the 360. Just feels a little off. I'm hoping the PS3 version will be more like the PS2 version in terms of feel. I guess we'll know soon enough. Could be another title to buy on the PS3.

Of course, long term the PS3 has GT5 (which may or may not compete with Forza 2) and Killzone 2 (which looks to be better than it's woeful predecessor).

Oh, and the PS3 pads are crap - the sticks have such massive deadzones that FPS games, and even Skate, are much more difficult to be accurate with.

Top grammar there mate. If you're going to be "blunt" then at least be grammatically blunt. Oh, and accurate about your facts. You were neither. The PS3 is a nice machine. It's currently a paperweight in my house, holding the DVD player underneath in place. Neither get used much. Hopefully within the next year there'll be a game for it that's going to bring it out of hibernation.

Yeah thats a tuff one, but id go for the 360, the games right now are awesome, Bioshock, Halo 3, Skate etc, it wins hands down, no to mention all the future releases like Mass Effect, Assasins Creed.

The initial set up is alot easier to understand to. So the 360 is the better option!

Unlike others I'm not going to sit on the fence, as you asked for advice. I'm sure you can look at the factors for yourself, I'll tell you what I think you should do as it's more useful than me telling you the factors you already know.

Well having owned both with a similar reason to you, PES being virtually my sole interest in console gaming I'd recommend you purchase the PS3. I owned my 360 for over six months and found it severely lacking in the PES department. Then there's all the variety of games people harp on about, I'm afraid I find the majority to poor/uninteresting, I'd only say this is a plus if you're a big FPS fan.

The price difference is very small when you buy everything you suggested, then there's PS3 built-in Blu-Ray drive, while maybe not a necessity for you is a very big bonus. Unless I'm forgetting something the 360 doesn't have an HDMI output? I didn't have my HDTV at the time so I may be wrong as I was uninterested in that factor then.

If you want wireless gaming etc. and you can afford it go for a PS3.

http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3434480/Sony-Playstation-3-PS3-Console-with-60GB-HDD-2-Games-+-Official-Wireless-Sixaxis-Controller-+-HDMI-Cable-+-C/Product.html

Should include everything you suggested you needed, a second pad, two games and Click (Blu-ray) all of which can then obviously be traded in at Game/Gamestation although they include them in their bundles as well so you won't get a great deal for them. Play give you the HDMI cable free, I don't knwo where else do however.

games will be better because of blu-ray ROFLMAO, ps3 has all the best games.. hahahahah ....what are you 10yrs old?

sheeeet if there was stand-up comedy for nerds you'd be the chris rock of the genre.

its common knowledge the PS3 doesn't currently have one stand out game you that can't play on the 360.

btw just because you type FACT it doesn't help your cause, especially when you're a clueless tard like yourself talking out of your ass.

back to the OP if you're interested in playing games i don't really see any point in paying quite alot more cash for a PS3 when there's currently nothing decent on it + their live service might be free but it's just as well because it sucks. oooooh we're getting Home (wow a glorified Second Life on your console yipppeee). I'm not fanboy i've still got an Xbox and PSX/PS2 and my Xbox360 but the PS3 is a total flop right now and anyone who thinks different is trying to justify their £400+ doorstop.

the PS3 version will play more or less exactly the same as the Xbox360, they don't customise versions between platforms generally.

the exception was PES6 which on the PC was a port of Winning Eleven 10 and played alot different than PES6 on the 360 which was it's own build.....but this year all 3 versions will be identical.

Well, I don't own any, so I can give you a prospective customer view. Xbox 360 is an alright console. Now the red lights thing seems to be solved, and it has a lot of games, nice online service, etc etc. Besides, it's cheaper, so you can't go wrong with it.

PS3, on the other hand, is a monster. 7 cores? Phew. It was designed to still be recent well into the next decade, so I think you could not go wrong with this one either. Of course, we never know the twist and turns of the gaming market.

I think it's mostly about what games you will be playing. Either way, you're going to miss some juicy titles. There's also the lasting factor in the PS3, while Microsoft will be surely releasing another console in a few years, so you have to take that into account.

Barry
06-10-2007, 16:49
But with the Xbox 360 it is not obligatory to buy all the stuff that makes it an equal to the PS3's price range. You can, people like to choose. If you don't want to play online, don't buy a headset and a subscription etc.

I would still say get both if you can, or buy the one with the best games, present & future releases.

Here is my 2 pennys worth, Im no fan boy, this is just my opinion...

At the moment, they are both much of a muchness. The 360 and the PS3 are both fantastic and I have played the both and own a PS3.

However, for the future, I would definately go for a PS3, I have heard people saying online is better on 360, come next year, I believe opinions will change when people find "home" on PS3. I have the PS3 and have been far from disappointed, the browsing of the internet is superb and the games are sublime. My friend has a 360 and it is also very good, but I do believe the PS3 is slightly more powerful and for graphics and gameplay it edges it.

As for pricing, they are actually very similar. In PS3, you buy the lot in one. Microsoft have been clever making it look a lot cheaper, but there isnt a lot in it. Once you have bought all the accesories such as wireless adaptor, live subscription. It all adds up near the PS3, where you get it all for around £400.

Both consoles have their titles, 360 - Halo, PS3 - Metal gear solid. I am a huge footy game fan and have always loved them on the PlayStation.

Whichever you choose, you won't be disappointed as both are great, but future proof, my verdict is the PlayStation 3. :)

EDIT: I have a HDMI cable for my PS3 and whoa, does it make a difference! If you choose the PS3, I urge you to get one ;)

That's good news for me because no way would I want to pay over 400 quid for a ps3 but now they are releasing a 40gb version, this will bring the price down a bit.

How much will Sony be selling ps3s for now if they sold a 40gb version with 2 wireless controllers, 2 games and a HDMI cable. ????? .

Thanks everyone for the advice

I'm gonna go for the PS3.... 60GB - £349.99 with 2 games, great deal.

I did consider the 40GB - £299 deal, but id rather pay an extra £50 for more memory/card slots etc...

You wont regret it dude....unlike people like me who have had it for a few months (without anything spectacular happening with it) your buying it at the perfect time with things like HOME round the corner and the main set of games all coming out soon.

I think the new 60gig bundle is available from the 10th this month

i've heard they are phasing out the 60gb model as they did in the US and introducing the 80gb soon.
so there are two models the 40gb with no memory slots and no backward compatability and the 80gb ver with everything.

^btw metal gear solid will be on 360

Shame, so sony are going to scrap the 60gb console and bring in the 80gb version which will cost even more money.

????????

Yeah....but i reckon if Sony manage to shift all of the 60G models laying about (after a reasonably mediocre Launch) there will be some happy SCCE Suits. I assumed that Mgs would be ps3 exclusive..you know what happens when you assume....you make an ass out of u and me

I thought it was a PS3 exclusive? Probably on 360 half a year later.

I was one of the saddo's who got the PS3 on launch day in the UK... while the unit is an amazing piece of hardware (and does a half decent job of upscaling my DVD collection to my HD telly), it's just been a long grind waiting for any decent titles...

...but fear not, the future looks damn rosy.

In the end i'm glad i went to PS3 over XBOX, but in hindsight i should've waited for the inevitable price drop.

Either way Motorstom and Oblivion look ace in HD!
