From the BBC website:

1634: Trouble in the stands at the JJB Stadium which is sold out. Are Liverpool fans in Wigan sections? More on that as and when.

And you want us to feel sorry for the 96?

Lol I was sat in the Wigan section with my Dad, Mum and step-sister as my dad's boss has season tickets and he couldn't go and when Liverpool scored so many people jumped up and all the Wigan fans stood up going mad. The problem is they can't even fill their own fucking ground so away fans can get hold of any tickets. If they could fill their own ground none of this would happen.

There was a fair few in the home end when we played them, clad in replica tops, all with either Gerrard or Carragher on the back. I don't have a problem with it to be honest, although you're asking for trouble wearing your shirt.

Oh, sorry my mistake.

Of course it's Wigan's fault that you lot can't just sit there and watch the game, isn't it?

As usual you were there to cause problems. Any with half a brain cell knows you don't publicise the fact you're in the home teams stands.

Plenty of other teams go into Wigan's home section, yet you never hear of any trouble.

Stella you are a complete cunt if you think it's acceptable to beat someone up just for supporting a particular football team. This is WIGAN versus Liverpool we talking about here. I might understand that sitting in opposing sections for games like Man Utd v Man City, or Liverpool v Everton... but come on this is ridiculous. Why don't Wigan just allocate more Away tickets when they know they can't sell out there own?

In EVERY other sport fans mix with each other and enjoy the game.

Stella Artois
01-10-2007, 20:48
My apologies.

I'm sure the Liverpool fans did absolutely nothing wrong and in no way retaliated or got involved so as to make the situation worse.

hitmanuk2k
01-10-2007, 20:56
Well I can't see why they would have started fighting the Wigan fans for no reason... can you? My guess is they got abuse hurled at them and responded with sarcastic abuse of their own regarding scoreline (fair enough?). Wigan chav (looking at clothing) fans punches Liverpool fan and we get the above picture.

Stella Artois
01-10-2007, 20:58
I reckon they went into a stand they shouldn't have been in, celebrated, caused trouble and got what they deserved.

I just think the whole thing in football about going into the 'other' end is ridiculous. Why is it only football which has these problems?

You can't tell me that one Liverpool fan honestly thought he could start shit in the Wigan end without being kicked to shit? I expect he just cheered a little when they scored and the result was the picture posted.

Up the Argyle we always get kids draped in Manure, Arse or Pool clobber but the thing is we never play them so it will never cause trouble. At many a ground away fans sometimes obtain tickets for the home end but this doesn't often cause trouble but my guess is Liverpool thought they had the numbers and decided to celebrate and taunt the Wigan fans and some took exception to it.

Why is it that this problem has only ever occured with Liverpool fans at Wigan? Plenty of other sides go in their section, yet their's no hint of any trouble.

hitmanuk2k
02-10-2007, 18:23
Liverpool probably has more travelling fans than any other club. Wigan probably has the least number of home fans than any other club. Loads of Liverpool fans will have been able to gain entry. The more fans, the more pished off the home fans will have been when they cheered for the goal. Then the chavs assault Liverpool fan.

2 Scousers and see that lad in the grey? He is now a Liverpool legend because he sparked 4 yes 4 Wiganers.

I met a lad after the game who was from Liverpool and his son was a Wigan fan. He takes him to every home game and he was threatened in this game WITH HIS SON.

I never had anything against Wigan before but then I went there.

Shithole full of wannabe mancs and not one of them was anywhere to be seen when we got outside.

Oh and I also saw one of their youth team get right up in the face of one of our disabled support and shout "boring" right in his grid.

They have the away end, then next to the away end they have a "neutral end", which was their genius ploy to get all the Japanese tourists in that never came off. Exactly, I can think of many ways of this being avoided. I mean, we're not angels by any stretch and I've been to lots of games where I've seen Stoke away fans in home ends. However, they've shown respect inside the ground and congragated together away from home fans and near the away stand.

I remember us playing Chelsea in the Cup and some bell-ends were sat infront of my Uncle. They were giving a load of mouth and a bloke just asked them tone down there language a bit and these Chelsea hit the bloke. Needless to say about 30 Stoke fans jumped on these two and dragged them in the concourse and duly gave thema kicking they earned.

Although I re-itterate, Wigwam fans are cocks. Nothing to do with this, however.

Congregating where the away fans were would have mean me getting our of my seat going over a barrier into a stand that I didn't have a ticket for and walking right over to a part of the ground where it was kicking off.

Wigan fans being cocks have everything to do with this. These Liverpool fans were clearly not kick off merchants because if they were they wouldn't have waited until we scored and they wouldn't have suffered the abuse related to the city and Michael Shields for so long.

The long and short of this is they celebrated a goal and some little no mark Wigan beauts had a pop. One lad dealt with four of them and the other lad managed to fend off a couple.

It wasn't only that place in the ground where it kicked off and the shithouse Wigan fans who did it were out of the ground long before full time because they knew what would have happened if they were identified.

Anyone who wants to come and sit in the Kop, who isn't wearing a rival kit and giving abuse will be fine. If you celebrate a goal you might get a few things said like I did at Wigan but I doubt you are going to get a kicking.

Bottom line is I applauded Wigan on and off the field, they gave a good account of themselves as a side and only their fans are gobshites. The team played with heart and had a real go. Scharner particularly impressed me.

We were warned about going for a bevy after the game but still went. We didn't hang around on account of the fact we couldn't find an alehouse with Setanta.

You lose atmosphere, if fans sit next to their opponents. Most due to respect for the opposition will not chant, sing and carry on as they would if they were with like minded people.
An example to note was when the Ashes were here they had systematically spread all of the barmies around the stadium and even though it is cricket, atmosphere was wank. Football should never lose the passion and atmosphere that is evident in most games.

You must admit though, it does sound a bit like the boy who cried wolf? This isn't the first time (nor indeed the second, third, or whatever) that Liverpool fans have turned up en masse without tickets for their designated end and trouble has occurred. Before you start, I'm not having a pop at Hillsborough.

You story may indeed be totally true (though I doubt it, it is human nature to exaggerate), but it runs thin after the umpteenth time.

That is also why you suffer so much abuse on this forum - I actually agree with a lot of what you say, but you're like a broken record. The words of your posts may be different, but almost every single one translates into "It wasn't me, Sir, it was him." Me being Liverpool in general.

What happened with us was far, far worse. And the banter suggestion was mainly directed at the city jibes. Has there ever been concrete evidence that Shields didn't do it?

Going back to my first question, 'why didn't you buy a ticket nearer that end, or in the away end?'

And both these questions aren't me being arsey or patronsising, they are genuine questions.

This happened during a Singapore-China match, qualifications for the 07 Asia Cup. This was in Singapore and a few China fans decide to walk through the home support, showing disrespect and they get a bit of a surprise...

The guy in the red bandana and red shirt at the end is God!

No Kung fu kicks? I am very disappointed.

There are a lot of occasions where concrete evidence is never provided and the person in question is let go. No one knows only him. Personally I am inclined to think he didn't do it because he is still so adamant despite having all but served his time. And why would Graham Sankey (think that was the lads name) come forward and accept responsibility for a crime he never commited?

Makes no sense.

We will never know. It isn't really the point. The point is that everyone deserves a fair trial and the lad clearly never got one.

If I could have got hold of a ticket for the away end I certainly would have. It is a natural compulsion to want to sit amoungst your own fans. When we scored I was one of the few people who jumped up and celebrated. Watching the away end was a sight to behold, it went mental.

Thats about the top and bottom of it

Totally o/t but Stella - our train gets to Kings X at 11:30 on Sunday, would it be best to get the tube or just get a taxi to the ground? I'm not that bothered about seeing kick off like.

If you're around later I'll let you know as I've got to go to a lecture in 2 minutes and don't have time to explain.

I believe there are engineering works planned so I'll need to look into it later.

Edit: Don't go on the Tube, there are definite works going ahead according to the Transport for London website.

I might be wrong, but I believe it's a half hour walk (I never have to go to Kings Cross, so I could be wrong).

If there's a few of you, taking a Taxi may be the best option, unless you're willing to jump on a bus.

How is that banter. Banter if friendly ribbing not laughing at a lad who has been fucked over by an archaic justice system and the like.

They are wannabe Mancs and I never knew that till I went there.

Someone hurt that bloke, if he has to take the rap for it, so be it.

Perhaps the coward who did it should have had the guts to speak up.
