playing PES on my PS2 just doesn't do it for me now that next-gen is becoming the standard nowadays. my computer cannot stand up to the necessary performance requirements for games these days, especially with PES and its inevitable lag/choppy issues on the pc.

so what i would like to ask everyone is, do you think it is crazy to purchase an XBox 360 just so I can play PES 2008 and future PES games? Playing a next-gen PES seems so appealing to me that I'm considering buying a system just for that reason. I think it's kinda crazy. What are your opinions?

last year we had loadsa tits on here complaining theyd bought an xbox for PES6 and it sucked,it pissed me right off coz no games worth £300+ and no one buys a console for one game.personnaly if thats all you want i wouldnt, but if you did i could also guarntee you would buy other games so it wouldnt just be for PES.youd have to buy something like GTA or assasins creed or GOW,no chance that everyone with an xbox is going to miss all of them titles, every xbox in the world will have played one of those games when the 1st two are released that is.

To be honest, Id say don't bother if your buying it just for one game. I did exactly what your thinking last year and bought a xbox 360 to play pes6. I really regret it now and don't feel im getting my money's worth out of my 360. One of the reasons for this is i found playing pes 6 on pc more satisfying with all the patches you can get and free online play. Pes6 is pimped to perfection and looks and plays great on my pc.

What im saying is if you just wanna play pes 2008 your better upgrading your pc as it is now next gen and could probably work out cheaper. Plus great patching capabilities.

I wish i had done this now instead of buying 360, as I personally get bored of games quite quickly, except pro evo of course. However I have enjoyed some 360 games like Rainbow Six Vegas and Fight Night Round 3 which is pure class (surprisingly made by EA)

I think you will buy the 360 for PES but end up getting a lot of other games as well. Anyway, the ps2 will be a dead system in a matter of days now.

Well, at the time I bought my PS2 I bought it for playing all sorts of games, but the truth is for the several years that I had it I only played on 4 games regularly and they were PES, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy X. And out of those PES was used by far the most. So if you are going to get a lot of fun out of it and have the cash to burn, I say just go for it mate and enjoy yourself, the game time you'll clock up playing PES alone should justify the purchase of a next gen console. ;)

Keep in mind the sucky pad.

Buy a PS3. I had a X360 before, had it repaired by Microsoft twice, the red lights problem, and ended selling it in ebay. You can still play your PS2 games on a PS3 anyway, plus it is the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market.

Original?

The new 40GB PS3 sounds a better bet as the pad is a much better feel for PES, especially if you liked the Dualshock.

Now, now lets not force him.
Get 360.
End of story.

I could go out to the shops and buy an Xbox360 for £200.

If I wanted to upgrade my PC to a spec that matched the 360's gaming performance.......I would probs have to spend about £800

Decent Quad Core PRocessor....£250
2 Gig of FAST gaming Ram.....£250
Mobo.........£100
DX10 8800GTX.....£350

Shit....thats almost a Grand.

I never said it had to match a 360's performance or be gold plated. Just able to run the pc version of pes 2008.

thanks for all the input. i'm sure one of these days i'll end up getting a real video game console rather than relying on my pc. games are just so damn expensive. i should just buy the pes game and go to my friend's house everyday!

thing that annoys me is you have to pay generally £40 on xbox, and like £20 for the same game with better editing/patching options coz its on PC.since my box has just died i may get it on PC

Xbox 360 is down to £199.99 on Play ;)

Dan
07-10-2007, 10:46
Is that for the premium?

Ziss
07-10-2007, 10:49
It has been £199.99 for the Premium, but the price has shot back up :(

Dan
07-10-2007, 10:57
I see. I was gonna say, if it's a core, don't bother. You'll need a hard drive if you want to go online. :)

Ziss
07-10-2007, 10:59
It was for the premiuim. Lucky my Dad ordered it whilst it was still at £199.99 :)

What's your gamertag, Dan, and what games do you play online?

Dan
07-10-2007, 11:07

My tag is Dancbert19. At the mo I only really play Halo, but once PES comes out, I have plans to set an online league up. Hoping for 18 people at least, 20 would be perfect though.

Ziss
07-10-2007, 11:10
Sweet, include me in that league ;) I will let you know what my gamertag is when I set it up. Will prolly just add you and you'll know it's me.

What games you looking to get? I've got my eye on Tony Hawk and Burnout (as well as Halo 3), which should be online. Also Assassin's Creed looks the dogs, but I doubt that'll be multiplayer.

Dan
07-10-2007, 11:19
Shooter wise Halo, Call of Duty 4 and Kane and Lynch: Dead Men will be quality online. It's just gonna be a problem finding the time to play all 3.

Burnout will be class online, apparently it's an open world and you just drive around looking for people to race. You'll be able to set up the usual races as well of course, either way it'll be a mad laugh.

And of course, PES.

Ziss

Is Burnout gonna re-introduce the "smash the shit out of anything in sight" feature? As I was upset they took this out of the last one :(

Get a 360, if only for the fact it's still a bit cheaper than the PS3. You can augment your games collection with Halo, Dead Rising, Gears of War, Forza 2 and Earth Defence Force 2017.

Yeah, without the BC, no memory card readers and only has 2 USB ports.
Not worth it.

I also bought my 360 because of PES. It wasn't coming out on the old Xbox, so I bought the 360-PES6 package. I've got about 5 other games, but I mostly play PES.

PeteR0CK

i'm gonna play the finished product of PES 2008 before i make any decisions on whether or not i will buy the xbox 360...

which brings to mind additional questions.
1) if i get the north american version of pes 2008, will i be able to play against players of pes 2008 in the uk on the xbox?
2) and let's say if i were to import the uk version of pes 2008, can i still play online against people in the uk even though my xbox 360 was purchased in the states?

The 360 has other great games so I'm sure you won't just be playing Pro Evo, even if it does take up most of your gaming time. I'll be getting it for PE, Bioshock, Gears of War, Halo 3, Crackdown, and a whole bunch of non-exclusive titles too.
