Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing could be set to leave the club.
Press Association reports claim that the 24-year-old will submit a written transfer request on Monday.
Downing, who has 21 England caps, signed a new five-year deal in February last year but is rumoured to have become increasingly unsettled recently.
Tottenham have been keen to sign Downing for some time, and had a reported bid of £6m rejected and termed 'derisory' by Boro last week.
Manager Gareth Southgate has repeatedly stressed that local boy Downing would not be sold.
The Teesside club are under no financial pressure to offload one of their most prized assets, but Southgate is not thought to have been previously aware of Downing's desire to leave.
His view may now become similar to the scenario involving Ayegbeni Yakubu when he made it clear his future lay away from the Riverside Stadium, and was swiftly allowed to leave.
Boro's valuation of Downing is nearer £15m, which would smash their record transfer sale, but it remains to be seen if Spurs will have the same opinion.
Never rated him. He'll just be Bentley on the left if he goes to Spurs.
As a Boro fan i would be happy to see the back of downing!
he was once a local promising young player but now he doesnt want to play football, it seems like he only wants to play when more money is involved!.
i feel like the people who dont like downing havent seen him play that much, fair enough he has had a few chances with the England squad and wasted them apart from the last 2 games he has featured in, i felt like he need to be drug tested straight after those games! but i also felt he was used as the scapegoat when McClaren was in charge.
he doesnt seem to take people on anymore like he used to i was all for him going into the England set up however he seems to drop in form too when he comes back from a game with England.
all i can say is good luck to the spurs fans if they get him and bring on the millions in which we rake in for him!
now all we need to do is get rid of Downing and Alves!

i think the lad is good (fantastic championship player as proved at watford last season) however very lightweight and will take a good few years to become a England League quality player and i think i'd rather have downing!
Downing:great crosser of the ball, doesnt take people on anymore! will never jump for the ball. passing is normally good.
Johnson: very lightweight but he's quick, skillful and will take it around players
but cant cross the ball! passing isn't too good.
theyre like 2 different players in the same position, one can do what the other cant.
if only there was a mixture!

Whenever I saw the lad, the first thing that I noticed was his inability to pull up an accurate cross. But then again, I have seen play only a handful games. :unsure:

Seems strange that this may happen. Mido has put in a lot of effort to lose his extra weight and get back on form. From what I know, he's hit a few injury setbacks again lately, but leaving to go to Newcastle would be ridiculous. Especially due to the racist chanting from the Newcastle fans, on a few occasions from what I can remember too.
I suppose Alan Smith would offer some versatility, but it's obvious he's not a natural goalscorer.

How did Didier Digard play? Joking Tone. Heard you guys played some good stuff last night against Boiled Ham.
Decent goals against our strongest possible defence. We didnt create enough shots on goal and lacked creativity to even get past Huth and Wheater. Those two were too strong last night and hustled everything off us.

and howard, watch out for Wheater not many people have heard of him or see him play that much, he was our "player of the season" last year imo.

I was quite amazed at how well Boro played last night, and it's one of the reasons I would never place a bet on Boro, because they're so unpredictable. Downing's free-kick was sublime definitely, the goalkeeper had absolutely no chance. It was also good to see Aliadiere and Tuncay link up well, I've always had a soft spot for them for some reason. Hopefully this can give Boro the form they need to cause Liverpool a threat at the weekend.
When is this Boro vs. Liverpool match by the way ? I may get myself down since I'm in Billog this weekend. I would like to see Boro stay up, and any chance to taunt Liverpool has to be taken. Should be piss getting tickets too, the stadiums always half-empty. ;)

NEVER compare boro to Derby. Derby were the winners of the lowest ever points achieved in the prem so thats abit harsh. I was thinking more of Wolves when i was typing. On paper boro should bounce back as they're team does have alot of pace and aren't all hogan ( old )

Once you go down, a lot of things change. Ask Norwich, Soton and Charlton. Attendance figures, coaching staff, most of the key players in the squad, and if it isn't for the parachute payments more teams that go down would struggle.

Obviously Tuncay, Downing will leave but they should still have enough. Just need to add a decent goal scorer. Maybe if Leeds don't get promoted, how about a move for Jermaine Beckford? Or, take Adebayor down to the depths of Hell.
