Bullshit. Someone asked me a question about Lupoli, and I made it quite clear I have only seen hima few times, and in those games, he didnt make much of an impression on me (which was also what the commentators and probably Wenger thought, since he subbed him). I didnt even bring up Bergkamp, plus I like lots and lots of players that dont even come close to Bergkamp's skills. I just like to see intelligence, hard work, creativity, etc in a player, which Lupoli didnt show in those few matches I saw of him.

However, I openly said I havent seen much of the guy, so I CAN NOT make a fair judgement on him, and that I have been hearing a lot of good stuff about his performances in the reserves.

So why even try and stir up some shit?Actually I was talking about the way you went on about Inzaghi.

Actually I was talking about the way you went on about Inzaghi.

I dont think ANYONE who loves football, could like Inzagi. No matter of you're a fan of Bergkamp or not, that guy is a diving biatch who's always whining. He's a good striker as he makes many goals, but I would never be a fan of him or his style.
I made the comparison because I didnt see anything from lupoli (in those very few matches I saw him in), that made me go:'owww.. yeah that's quite good', so I made the assumption (and I said I certainly couldnt know for sure if I would be correct) that he might be one of those players like Inzaghi who has no real stand-out skills, but is the kind of player that's just always on the end of an attack, in the right place at the right time, to tap the ball in.

Any chance of that thug Morgan getting punished by tv evidence for punching RVP in the gut?- RVP should have given him another black eye.
Any chance that he was knocking on the dressing room door to apologize like Mculloch did to him?

Thought not - on both counts.
The game doesnt need ''players'' like him - Sheff Utd never change - i remember an fa cup game a few years ago when Cullip stamped on Cescs head, Bergkamp pushed him away - and he got sent off!

He's a shit player with ni skills of sportsmanshp at all. IT's grates at me to see players like him in Premiership, they must have just been in the right place at the right time to get picked up by their clubs.

Well...as soon as the FA figure out how to use video evidence properly...for replays...or for fining manager(?!?!) or diving...it'll be done.... Until then...bugger it...and only the result mattered and we didn't do enough at Sheffield. Credit to them for playing and going for it. Sometimes we are just a bunch of posies!

Arsène Wenger will wait as long as possible before naming his team for tonight's game against Charlton.

The Arsenal manager went into Saturday's game at Sheffield United without nine first-team players. Of those Alexander Hleb appears to have the best chance of returning to the squad while Thierry Henry was due for an assessment on New Year's Day. However Julio Baptista has joined the injury list.

"At the moment it is difficult to say [who will play against Charlton]," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Sunday.

"Hleb certainly has a chance, Henry I will see about. It looks like Emmanuel Eboue will not be back and Emmanuel Adebayor will still be out. We have a few uncertainties from Sheffield United - Robin van Persie got a knock on his ankle and Baptista will be out definitely. He had a kick and has a bad ankle.

"We have to assess the situation as late as possible."

For the record the nine players who missed the defeat at Bramall Lane were: Henry (hamstring), Freddie Ljungberg (hamstring), William Gallas (thigh), Eboue (ankle), Abou Diaby (ankle), Adebayor (thigh), Johan Djourou (hamstring), Theo Walcott (back) and Hleb (shin).

Good win, though it must be said, Charlton really are awful and made it quite easy for us. I also would've liked us to score a few more from open play, the amount of chances we wasted was amazing. But then again, can't really complain when we score twice, get two penalties, hit the post twice, have two efforts cleared off the line, have a goal incorrectly ruled out, and miss about four other clear chances. If only Fabregas could finish...

It'll be interesting to see if van Persie can keep up his form, he's currently got ten goals in the league, and I don't see why he couldn't get 20, considering he's spent half of the season so far playing on the left and has just recently started playing up front.

First goal by an ENGLISHMAN since Sept 2005 (Sol Campbell's double)...surprised that so many papers are making so much out of it!

I'm just happy that Hoyte seems to be improving...and what a great way to captain your team by being a provider as well as a finisher Henry! He had one penalty...gave the ball to VP for his spot kick...and helped do the one two with Hoyte...not bad going. He seems refreshed!

Returning Henry hails Van Persie

Arsenal captain Thierry Henry believes Robin van Persie can become one of the best players in the Premiership.
Henry returned from a five-week lay-off to inspire the Gunners to a 4-0 win over Charlton, but afterwards he was keen to praise two-goal Van Persie.

"He's shown ever since he arrived here that he is a scorer of great goals.

"He has the ability to be one of the best players in the league. He has matured a lot and he does stuff in training that I have rarely seen."

Henry scored the opener against Charlton from the spot before setting up Justin Hoyte for the second.

Souleymane Diawara's foul on the French striker allowed Van Persie to score the third from the spot before the Dutchman completely the win with a deft chip.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealed Henry had stepped aside to let Van Persie take the second penalty.

"Van Persie has grown in confidence and presence and had a very sharp game tonight," said Wenger.

"He is on the list of penalty-takers and only the captain can decide if someone else is to take it. Thierry is number one, Robin is number three and Thierry gave it to him."

Wenger was delighted to see his captain return and believes he can lift Arsenal in the second half of the season.

"He's in a good frame of mind now because he has been at the end of his physical and mental potential," he said.

"He is refreshed and has come back hungry and fresh.

"I'm convinced you will see a great Thierry Henry from now until the end of May.

"We have a lot to go for. Maybe in the league, we are very, very far behind but we want to do as well as we can.

"We go in the Champions League, we have the FA Cup on Saturday at Liverpool, we are in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup as well.

"A good Thierry Henry can make the difference in the big games."

Seems like spirits are high after last night

Read the rules.

Actually, i think he's right. At the moment Henry shot the ball at goal, van persie was offside. Now if that ball goes in, he isnt taking part in the game, nor is he a hinderence, so plays goes on (obviously), but once the rebound happened, Van Persie suddenly benefitted from his offside position, and because he was offside during the shot, the linesman should have flagged. The foul would then be after play is paused... so penalty shouldnt have been.

At least, that's the way the offside rule worked last time I checked...

...but, it's been known to have been changed a few times these last couple of years, especially when it comes to this kinda situation.

Its a shame we're missing Cesc.

Flamini in the middle doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence. Flamini will struggle against Gerrard or Alonso imo.

Our 'wide' players and Gilberto will have to be up to their very best if we are to win. Hleb's and Rosicky's performance is absolutely vital.

Van Persie is in good form at the moment and Henry has looked sharp since his return. Our defence is fine and I'm not worried at all. Eboue is back too so that is a plus.

My guess we'll use this team:

................Lehmann

Eboue...Toure...Senderos...Cli chy

Hleb...Flamini...Gilberto...Ro sicky

......Van Persie....Henry

It doesn't look too bad but clearly Flamini is the weak-link in that team. He'll have to play well for sure.

A draw would cause our fixture schedule to clot up further.

Seems like we've sold Mr. Stokes....to Charlton...

Looks like you're right:

Charlton Athletic and Sunderland have both agreed a fee with Arsenal for the striker Anthony Stokes, BBC Scotland understands.
It is now up to the 18-year-old Stokes to decide what he wants to do.

The Irishman spent the first half of the season at Falkirk, but his loan spell ended at Christmas before returning to the Gunners.

Celtic are also interested in the player who netted 14 SPL goals in his spell with the Bairns.

So why are we selling him then? Hes only 18scored with regularity in the SPL and seems to be a predatory type striker that we supposedly need!

Read the bold part.
Liverpool play host to Arsenal in arguably the pick of the ties in the FA Cup third round.

Click here to vote on the outcome of the game

The game will be the first of two meetings in 72 hours with both sides set to face each other in the Carling Cup next Tuesday.

The tie is a repeat of the 2001 final when Liverpool overcame Arsenal 2-1 at the Millennium Stadium.

Arsenal make the trip to Anfield without key duo Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie as they serve a one-match suspension.

Mathieu Flamini is likely to start in midfield in place of Fabregas, with Julio Baptista possibly in line to start in attack in the absence of van Persie.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is still without Emmanuel Adebayor, Freddie Ljungberg, William Gallas and Theo Walcott with the latter two possibly in line for a return in the Carling Cup.

Emmanuel Eboue is fit again after a knee injury and he is set to return to the starting line-up, while Lauren and Johan Djourou are also available to play.

Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Craig Bellamy ahead of the game after he missed the New Year's Day win over Bolton.

Should Bellamy miss out again Dirk Kuyt and Peter Crouch are likely to lead the attack after they both scored against Bolton.

Jermaine Pennant will be aiming to keep his place in the side after his impressive showing against Bolton.

Long-term casualties Harry Kewell, Mohamed Sissoko and Bolo Zenden are still missing for Rafa Benitez's men.

vN, excuse my slowness, but what does the trains mean?

Zoolander
06-01-2007, 19:21
In rail transport, a train consists of rail vehicles that move along guides to transport freight or passengers from one place to another. The guideway (permanent way) usually consists of conventional rail tracks, but might also be monorail or maglev. Propulsion for the train is provided by a separate locomotive, or from individual motors in self-propelled multiple units. Most trains are powered by diesel engines or by electricity supplied by trackside systems. Historically the steam engine was the dominant form of locomotive power through the mid-20th century, but other sources of power (such as horses, rope (or wire), gravity, pneumatics, or gas turbines) are possible.

Although liverpool did well in terms of possesion they hardly looked dangerous, unlike us who seemed to utilize our possesion effectively.

Great goals by Rosicky (Those who criticised Dudek for coming off his line are slightly out of order, he was expecting the cross as all Premiership keepers would. I think it was a sublime finish), same to Henry also good working before it.

I was getting worried once they pulled one back mind, it would've been so fucking frustrating to see there frustratingly boring long ball shite overcome real football. Credit to our defense though, and Almunia, who dealt with 99% of everything soundly.

Actually, Van Persie would ONLY have been offside had he touched the ball, he didn't meaning that irrespective of the fact he was offside, he was fouled and therefore the appropiate punishment was handed out.

It's a shit rule, but don't blame me. ;)

Just beat Liverpool 4-1 on PES5 lads, so don't worry, we're going to run out easy winners. ;)

Wow... you were right (on both accounts actually ;) )
The old rule used to be when it looked like a player was going to benefit from his offside position, it would be ruled offside. But now the new rule is that the guy has to TOUCH the ball, before the offside can be given. Yeah, that IS a shite rule I guess, although they would most probably have had their reasons...
Good to see the referee getting it right in this case then, and arsenal benefitting from it...

Anyway, about yesterday's match: I really enjoyed it. It wasnt the best football from either side, but it had a good pace to it, went up and down, had some nice fouls so you could tell both teams did want to win it, and in the end Arsenal's great defence and some individual class won it for them. Thomas Roskicky choose the perfect match to show what he's capable of producing, cause he's been quite 'tame' for Arsenal up till yesterday. Nice to see Henry coming back, and scoring an important and great goal.

Liverpool at times looked more threatening and closing arsenal down, but they couldnt benefit from it. Crouch was pretty mediocre, while Kuytt ran all over the place workig his ass off and putting in the crosses etc. Like many, I found it very weird that Bellamy didnt come on, as I think the match would have had a different ending...

I also thought Wenger made a tactical blunder when he took of van Persie. I felt he should have taken off Henry (also to rest him since he's only just returned) and should have replaced Henry with Walcott, so VP could have played behind Walcott to benefit fully of the counter... But Wenger replaced Van Persie with Baptista, who in all honesty hasnt convinced me yet that he has the quality for this side, and yesterday's performance didnt change that.
When Liverpool scored the 2-1, I thought they would go on to also score the 2-2... but luckily Henry showed his class shortly after, and made it 3-1...
So it ended up well for Arsenal and Arsene...

Eboue did annoy me quite a bit though. The dirty fouls and trying to walk back onto the pitch (some referees could have given him a 2nd yellow for that, luckily yesterday's ref was great, and didnt). I dont know if he was really injured or not, but it was his own fault either way. Just stupid, and it's a shame cause he's a marvelous player when he just focusses on playing football.

Ah well, very entertaining match, and I'm looking forward to this afternoon's match between Man Utd and Aston Villa...

If van Persie had been in an onside position I don't believe the defender would have needed to pull him down. I'd say he was "interfering with play", wouldn't you? Shouldn't have been a red, should have been recinded. But this is the FA, who don't have a fucking clue what they're doing.

Ofcourse he was 'interfering with play' as soon as he ran towards the ball, but the ref/linesman cant flag/whistle untill he touches it... as that's the new rules apparently :)

If van Persie had been in an onside position I don't believe the defender would have needed to pull him down. I'd say he was "interfering with play", wouldn't you? Shouldn't have been a red, should have been recinded. But this is the FA, who don't have a fucking clue what they're doing.

Why are you a football fan when you don't even know the rules?

Wow... you were right (on both accounts actually ;) )

I'm always right.

It's spelt Tomas. :P

He hasn't been half as bad as people make out, but he's been suffering with injuries so it's been difficult for him.

Liverpool had more possession and territory, that goes without question, however they posed absolutely no threat whatsoever. As one reporter wrote, they're just a bunch of up-market long ball merchants.

How was it a tactical blunder when he scored the winner?

Alumnia

Hoyte Senderos Djourou Traore

Isn't Denilson in South America for the U20 cup or something?

Hoyte-Djourou-Gallas-Traore

I really hope Denilson is available, as Song isn't good enough to hold our midfield together.

If Ljungberg was to leave, it would be the loss of a club legend. His form has been average at best for a while, but he still has something to give. Experience and physicality are things we need more of, not less. As long as he is willing to accept a lesser role and fight for inclusion, I'm happy to see him stay.

Ronaldo_is_fat
08-01-2007, 01:09
He is almost at his 30s and as a winger he has no pace and no vision for a supporting striker. Yes he is no doubt a club legend, but it is time for him to move on.

JoeyM
08-01-2007, 03:01
Freddie's pretty much lost his pace and bottle, and I wouldn't be crushed to see him leave. But I'd be massively disappointed if the club has handled as the papers have said (telling him to find himself a new club immediately).

martin_cranie
08-01-2007, 04:11
I know we're all hoping for Ribery as his eventual replacement, but the likelihood of that happening, in January at least, is very low. Considering the lack of width and experience we have, Freddie leaving in January would be too bigger loss. Even if Wenger was to bring in someone like N'Zogbia, we'd still be at a loss in terms of physicality and experience. I just don't think he's worth getting rid of yet.

Anyway, if it is true, then as Joey says, I hope the manner of proceedings are far better than reported. Ljungberg truly loves Arsenal and has served us brilliantly in the past; it would be an outrage to treat such a player in that manner.

Highway Penguin
08-01-2007, 05:00
Mhm, I was a bit shocked at what the reports were saying, but I would hope Wenger has more class than what papers are making it out to sound like.

I would also assume his experience is needed as you've got a tremendously young squad in general and he's not very old, 29?, so it doesn't really hurt to keep him around, does it?

Whats wrong with Ljungberg being told he can leave? You dont keep a player based on the fact that he loves the 'Club'! He has been underperforming and though I would be sad to see him go it wouldnt have the impact of say an A. Cole, T. Henry, Gilberto or C. Fabregas leaving!

I have read up on the articles and the NEWS OF THE WORLD have surely exagerated on the leave aspect by stating the 'find a club now/immediately' - sensationalism! When Ljungberg leaves the club I hope he has the respect of the Arsenal fans to be treated as an Arsenal Giant and is appreciated for what he has done for the team/Club!

Transfer rumours: Sidwell back to arsenal, SWP to arsenal, Adebayor to Man Utd! What do we think?

Ronaldo_is_fat

Agreed. They didnt create any real chances, which is why I said I felt Crouch wasnt doing very well, and that is was very strange Bellamy wasnt brought on, as he brings more speed and movement. Kuytt was doing all the work.

How was it a tactical blunder when he scored the winner?

Well... like I said, at the time I felt it was a tactical blunder. Hell, if I'd watch the game again I would again feel it's a tactical 'blunder'. But it worked out very well, with Henry scoring the 3rd goal. But logically thinking, you'd take of Henry (who played OK-ish untill his goal, but not brilliant), and replace him with Walcott. I dont understand why you would take off van Persie and bring on Baptista, although Van Persie didnt have a great game as well...
Ah well, it all ended well. The decision turned out well (although more because of individual skill instead of tactics, cause Baptista wasnt bringing anything to the game, as usual) and it was nice seeing Henry scoring an important goal again :)

I wouldn't lose any sleep if Ljungberg left the club. It's true that he shows commitment and works his arse off in every match, but he has lost it offensively to be honest. He has lost his pace and I can't remember the last time he scored a goal. He has been average or below average in every game this season. He has little to contribute and in almost every match he's played in I've noticed he has been unable to beat his marker. Instead, he sits on the floor, hoping the ref would give him a free kick. He is also rather injury prone. Walcott, Hleb and Rosicky are better players than him.

Thanks for the memories Freddie, and the red hair, but I feel its time for you to move on.

Abou Diaby is back in the Arsenal squad for Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at Liverpool.

The French midfielder has not played since suffering a fractured and dislocated ankle at Sunderland last May but he completed his first full training session on Thursday and is in contention for a welcome return at Anfield.

Diaby's recovery is the latest in a long line of promising injury news. As Arsène Wenger explained on Monday afternoon, Freddie Ljungberg (hamstring) is currently the only player without a chance of featuring in Saturday's Premiership game at Ewood Park.

"We have Diaby in the squad for the first time and Emmanuel Adebayor is very strongly coming back. Blackburn is possible for him," said Wenger.

"Lauren is not in the squad for Liverpool, he has a small toe injury. William Gallas will not play either. But basically the only real injury is Ljungberg, he needs one more week after Blackburn.

"That is why I said for a long time that I won't buy anyone [in the transfer window]. I knew I had enough players when they came back from injury."

Good to welcome Diaby back, competiotion for places is always good.

I wish Wenger had stuck with Flamini os Clichy for the CL final - Cole had only 1 game under his belt, and it was pretty obvious that he would be leaving us that summer.

I hope Wenger keeps Fredy, his experience is crucial and he id a big game player, i thought he had an excellent CL final.

Wenger has shown how important he is to the squad and even if he has lost a yard of pace, he still works very hard and wins the ball back quite a few times when chasing back to intercept.
Also i think he is 3rd choice captain - he led the team against Zagreb (home when Henry & Gilberto were out) - and scored.
