We already have two fullbacks - Clichy and Troare.

No it would be disruptive to your spine of the team, like I said it should be a last we have no one else to play there situation. Look at his record with Terry at CB I think it was 2 goals conceeded in his time there when Mourinho brought a Solid at the back mind set to the Club! Him and Toure at the back is potentially a better partnership waiting to happen than Toure and Campbell

I've got a question, will Henry still score alot of goals in say 3-4 years?

He is a great finisher but I would say his pace is his best attribute, and in 3-4 years he might of lost alot of it, will he still be a great Prem striker?

Yes because he has the ability to drop deep and make things happen but granted he will need the right players around him to bring out the best in him but if Theo blossoms he could benefit from Henry and Fabregas through balls!:D

Lauren has left Arsenal and signed for Portsmouth.

Selling him is a mistake. Lauren is better than Hoyte and would challenge for a first team place, making Eboue's first team position under threat. Hoyte provides absolutely no challenge for Eboue for the right back spot.

Eboue is definitely my preferred right-back, but I really think he needs a big kick up the arse. Lauren's experience could've also taught a thing or two to Eboue.

And of the 4 which 2 would you have at the heart of your defence?
What are you on about?

Who said anything about Gallas being on left-back on a permanent basis anyway?

Clichy is our first choice left back, but should anything happen to him, Gallas could easily fill in for the time being. Should Gallas move out to the left, Djourou or Senderos could easily fill in, two defenders who I regard as one of the better centre-backs in the Premiership.

Henry's goal count will most likely fall, but I'd expect him to still score quite a few whilst notching up more assists. And with the likes of RvP, Adebayor and Baptista no doubt stepping up to the plate, I don't envisage a problem with Henry trailing off in 3-4 years.

Henry has a hell of a lot more than pace to rely upon, despite vanNistelrooy's (PESGaming, not Ruud) claim that if he had similar pace he could do everything Henry could.

EDIT: We had better pray that Gilbert can give Eboue the push he needs next season, otherwise we are going to suffer big time from selling Lauren.

Arsenal sold Lauren for 1 reason Wenger has faith in his youth and 3Eboue, Hoyte, Gilbert is enough cover plus I think the squad is getting strong not in terms of numbers but in terms of experience!

I would have liked it if he would have kept Manninger, cause he was a very good keeper, and after he was gone there was a period where Arsenal definately could have used him...

But aside from him, I cant think of many players that Wenger let go that turned out to be a mistake...

About Henry's goalcount:
It MIGHT drop, as he's been on such a high level the last few years... but then again, he'll probably still take the penalties and the freekicks, an he still has the creativity and the dribble and the long-range shots, so I doubt it will drop too much. Plus he's got a creative team behind him who will also create lots of chances for him or put the crosses in etc.

Age isnt everything. If his ONLY quality would have been pace, then yeah, it would have been a big issue.. but his pace is just one of many of his qualities.

Just look at old players like Larsson and Arveladze etc. Still playing well, being important, and scoring more then enough goals...

I felt Edu shouldn't have left.

He was an absolutely brilliant midfielder who could do the job either defensively or offensively.

Flamini starting vs United is a worrying prospect. I'd want us to appeal against Gilberto's red card.

If we lose the appeal, then it won't matter - our forth game is against Middlesbrough.

'Lauren is Arsenal's Mr Reliable, a tough-tackling defender and a valuable outlet on the right flank with the versatility to fill in at left-back or in midfield if required.

One of the Club's most experienced players, Lauren has won two Premiership titles and three FA Cups during his six years at Arsenal. He has also earned a reputation as a nerveless penalty taker, netting vital spot-kicks in two North London derbies and another in the 2005 FA Cup Final win over Manchester United.'

He's not the quickest full back, but he's a great tackler and is tough as nails. He can get exposed when up against lightning fast wingers, but apart from the FA Cup final vs Ronaldo, I've never seen him get truly raped by anyone. Going forward he's solid, not as spectacular as someone like Eboue, but he's good technically and a good crosser of the ball. Plus he's a crazy motherfucker and you can look forward to him staring down any opposing wingers for the next few years.

Robin van Persie has an “80 per cent” chance of recovering from injury in time to face Manchester United at the weekend.

The 23-year-old has been undergoing tests since he hurt his ankle in training this week. Thankfully, it seems he is likely to be fit for a vital game at Emirates Stadium.

“Robin will have test tomorrow,” said Arsène Wenger at Friday’s pre-match press conference. “But he has an 80 per cent chance of being OK.”

Johan Djourou has picked up a hamstring problem and will not figure while Alex Song is on international duty for Cameroon at the Under-20s African Nations Cup.

Otherwise the injury news is the same as Arsenal.com reported on Thursday: Emmanuel Eboue is back after his ankle problem but William Gallas (thigh) and Freddie Ljungberg (hamstring) are still out. Gilberto starts a three-game suspension so Mathieu Flamini is likely to deputise in midfield.

I'm not overly concerned, and won't be losing any sleep over it, but i'd rather Man Utd win. Reason being, I don't like or have any respect for the Chelsea setup, and Utd's brand of football is far more pleasing on the eye. Scholes and Ronaldo have been class.

Yes Giggs has faded in form.

VdS is the best keeper we've had since Schmeichel.

Vidic and Evra have improved alot since last season.

Ferdinand still has the occasional daft fucker moment or two.

We could have wasted our time with Jon Obi Mikel, so Carrick doesn't look that bad a deal.

I don't want Hargreaves, let alone for £20m. If he does buy him for this and we DO win the league, I couldn't give a shit if we wasted all that money on him.

I feel the rivalry between Arsenal and Man Utd has died down a bit over the last couple of seasons. Possibly because Chel$ki have come into it and everybody seems to love to hate them.

Not the best logic. I would think the fact Neville stuck a leg out that caught Henry and there was clear contact with the player but not the ball would be the better indicator.

Irrelevant though surely? A pen is a pen. If someone volleyed you up in the air and you felt the need to do a double back flip and toe loop before you came down surely it is still a pen ?

If he had trailed his leg looking for the contact that is different.

A great win it would seem. I haven't seen any of it - so MoTD is going to be excellent tonight - but from the match stats I've read, we looked worthy of at least a draw.

I've already read reports stating that ManYoo's 6pt lead is now looking a bit tentative, and as we're only 6pts behind Chelsea, I think there's reason to be optimistic. Runners up spot is certainly looking achievable.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has broken the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot, the club have announced.
He sustained the "partial fracture" scoring the equaliser in the Gunners' 2-1 win over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.

Van Persie had an X-ray immediately after the game which confirmed the full extent of his injury.

It is likely the Dutchman, who had come on as a second-half substitute, will be out of action for at least six weeks.

Good game Arsenal.

Didn't see the second half as the daft buggers at 5-a-side seem to always put a match at the time United are playing Arsenal.

Playing 4-5-1 (pretty much) says alot about what we expected/wished to take from the game. So this said we deserved to drop points. Maybe not sure about all three, but that's the way football goes, and we just have to use this defeat to push off from for the remainder of the season.

Once again, well done Arsenal.

Great result and a good performance. A year or two ago I wouldn't have really expected us to come back from a goal down vs. United, but today once they scored I still felt we could do it, which shows how far we've come in the last year.

Eboue may be a tosser, but he's one hell of a full back, lost his head a few times, but did very well both attacking and defending, he's really improved his final ball too. Clichy was superb was as well, kept whoever was against him in his pocket. Flamini was a bit anonymous, ran a lot, but didn't really impose himself. Cesc was superb again. Hleb was okay and Rosicky was a bit disappointing, nothing really came off for either of them. Ade was great, worked hard and caused trouble. Henry looked a bit lazy off the ball, but got the goal, so I can't say too much.

I couldn't help but laugh at Jens' "hurt" foot at the end.

That was the worst! What was he playing at? I wouldnt have said anything if he got booked for that! Its childish and it spoils a great comeback and victory over the top team in the Prem. Me too. As he caught it and went to ground, I thought to myself "now, pretend you're injured!" It may lack sportsmanship and class, but hey, they started it

I thought Emmanuel Adebayor was excellent, again. He never stops running, and has come on leaps and bounds this season, in terms of close control and passing, especially. Cesc Fabregas ran the midfield, and looked truly world class against top opposition, once again. Obviously wasn't a vintage performance, but a great victory all the same. We were the better team, although perhaps not by enough to deserve all 3 points, but they've had enough luck in recent years against us, for us to deserve the rub of the green this time.

The Sun's report is unsurprisingly shit, here's some of the best parts:

Few can remember the last time Arsenal beat United playing quite as poorly as they did at the Emirates yesterday.

Playing an adventurous and highly admirable 4-2-3-1, they took the lead after 53 minutes with a well-controlled Wayne Rooney header and looked to be strolling to victory.

It got so bad early on in the second half that Cesc Fabregas resorted to hitting high balls in the general direction of Emmanuel Adebayor from the right-back position.

Arsenal’s victory keeps it all bubbling over nicely but they know only too well how lucky they were to escape with all three points. Apart from that 15-minute spell at the end, they were clearly second best.

Not to mention the player ratings, Rosicky gets an 8 and MOTM, yet Cesc gets a 7. Clichy gets a 6, then Evra gets a 7? Adebayor gets the same rating as the anonymous Larsson?

Was meaning to post this a few days ago. A good article from Sir Bobby.

I like Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United a great deal, but you have to say that when Arsenal hit top gear, there is nobody else like them in the country.

They play a beautiful brand of football and when Thierry Henry is in the side and Cesc Fabregas pulls the strings, it’s hard to remember any team in English football ever playing so fluently. They are the best at retaining the ball, playing clever little one-twos and getting in behind defences.

Certainly, they haven’t found the consistency that Chelsea or Manchester United have done this season, but at their best, they are the best. Maybe that’s why they have done well in head-to-heads against the big teams; they have beaten Liverpool three times — twice in four days at Anfield recently in both domestic cups. They won 1-0 at Old Trafford back in September and were about a minute away from winning at Chelsea just before Christmas. And who can forget their 4-0 win at Reading earlier in the season?

Compare that to how Chelsea and United have struggled to prise points from Steve Coppell’s side. Arsenal will fancy their chances against United today, but the key might be how they cope without the suspended Gilberto Silva.

To me, Gilberto is to Arsenal what Bryan Robson was for Manchester United. The Brazilian covers yards of space, gets in tackles and still finds time to break forward and score goals. He is a key player and his are very large boots to fill for Mathieu Flamini, who does a good job but is no Gilberto.

In the opposite corner, Sir Alex has a difficult decision to make, with three top-class strikers — Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha and Henrik Larsson — bidding for two places.

Rooney has been very poor by his standards in the past few weeks and he struggled when I saw him at Newcastle on New Year’s Day. He missed a good chance and was a million miles behind Paul Scholes. Mind you, so was everyone else!

Sir Alex will relish having the headache of which top-class player to leave out. Saha was in good form before his injury and Larsson has shown in his early days over here that he still has the legs to handle the Premiership.

There are two ways you can go with a young player like Rooney. Rest him or let him play his way into form. I think Sir Alex and myself have the same outlook where we instinctively prefer to persevere with a great young talent. I remember at Ipswich there were times when young players like Eric Gates had a little dip in form but I would try to keep them in the side.

It won’t be an easy decision, but I think Alex will keep Rooney in the team today. But Wayne knows now with Larsson, Saha and also Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that if he struggles, he could be substituted or left out the team. Alex will be hoping Wayne responds to that.

It is too early in his career to compare Rooney to Henry. His goal against Blackburn last Saturday was sensational, particularly as it was against one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership in Brad Friedel, and he made it look so easy. For me, Henry is the best player in the Premiership — followed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been stunning this season but still overelaborates in certain games.

Rooney shouldn’t think he has reached the standard set by Henry yet, but that is what he should aim for over the next four or five seasons. United have had a remarkable season so far and Alex won’t want to let it slip now.

Like many people, I thought Chelsea’s signings in the summer of Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Ballack, Ashley Cole and Salomon Kalou would lead to a hattrick of titles. I’ve changed my mind now.

Manchester United definitely look the better all-round side and if Didier Drogba hadn’t hit such amazing form, Chelsea would be miles behind.

Alex has already won eight Premiership titles at United but I think this one, his ninth, would be the biggest achievement of the lot.

Despite Jose Mourinho’s current difficulties in signing players, he has been on an unprecedented spending spree in the past couple of years.

In the circumstances, it is a huge credit to Sir Alex that he has been able to mould a team not only to rival Chelsea but stay ahead of them in the Premiership table.

I guess neutrals will be rooting for United this season to end the recent Chelsea domination. But if you picked one team to sit down and watch on a Sunday afternoon, it would probably be Arsenal.

Indeed...don't want to give too much away to the Spurs...I think it'll be a good game. It's a good run in for Baptista who could be key now that VP is out for the season...and the intelligent play by Aliadiere vs Liverpool was hard to miss. Good games for them.

The same way you United fans can say Ronaldo "rarely does anything controversial anymore", us Chelsea fans can say the same about Drogba. So don't bring him into this.

Plus Kolo Toure does not dive and he is also from the Ivory Coast. So you should not bring Nationallity into this either.

Good result, considering the circumstances. We should count ourselves favourites now, although I hope Gael Clichy comes in for Armand Traore. The kid clearly has talent, but marking Aaron Lennon is not an easy task for any full-back, let alone a 17 year old with very little experience.

The decision to reward a free kick to Spurs for the second goal was pathetic, to say the least, but I guess you should expect these things from Mr Poll.

Fingers crossed, Hleb and Eboue only have minor injuries.

Well if that's true, and considering the wealth of Ronaldo's wrong doings, wouldn't you say there's hope for anyone to change?

Of course this discussion is quite pointless, as I'm sure we can both freely admit that plenty of players, ours and others, could stand to improve their attitudes.

A good fightback it would seem. I've not seen any of the match, but judging by statistics, we fought back very well in the second half. Most of the stats in the first half were considerably in Spurs favour.

Hoyte has drastically improved. A couple of months back he was absolutely awful. Walcott was anonymous today. I liked the look of Diaby and Denilson. That was some shot by Denilson too - the 30 yard volley. A fantastic effort.

I was annoyed at the lack of shots by the team though. We play one pass too many - we need to shoot more outside the box.

Denilson looks to be a cracking player, and the Beast now with 6 goals in two games where he has been played in his preferred position.

It must be said, Theo was very very bad today, gave the ball away almost every time he got it. It's puzzling as he's looked quality whenever he's played in the league, but he's been awful in the past to cup games.

As I have said a number of times Walcott is not a right winger. He is a player that needs to be played up top where he is given service. Playing him on the right makes him a one dimensional player and he clearly has so much more to offer.

No he hasn't. He has looked like a player who has come on fresh off the bench against a side that are so far back they are practically sat on their own goaline. Because that is exactly what he has been. In a real game starting and not being allowed to do as he pleases he is far more effective up top.

Great comeback from the lads considering we were two down away to the Scum who had put out their first team...

@Topgun: Eboue is the best right full in the whole fucking world mate, he's worth two players at the rate he gets up and down that pitch, he's more or less A.Cole at rightback before he sold out and turned all gay. (on that note, what ever happened to them rumors about him and Sol been caught? Strange the both of them headed off wouldn't you say)

Now regards his diving, everyones at it these days so why not?

Against Sheff Utd we got kicked off the pitch and still got no protection from the referee so if you stay on your feet in a dodgy tackle you don't get fuck all for it anyways.

So you know what I say right....

If you can't beat em join em, European football baby, that's the name of the game.

Aggressive, works hard, and has excellent vision and passing. Did you see his 30 yard volley attempt? That would've been some goal had it gone in. The technique on that shot was spot on.

He is also a bit of a leader. He was very vocal yesterday. Not surprising though, as he is the captain of the Brazil U-18 squad.

I think Wenger has found another gem in Denilson. I'm not surprised why we signed him for £4m.

Diaby will break another ankle of their players. They'll get a taste of their own medicine.

Well Ronaldo_is_fat said that Big Sam thinks he has the formula to beat Arsenal.

But to be fair, I think Big Sam knows he has the formula to beat Arsenal, when the venue is the Reebok ofcourse. Maybe he'll have it for the Emirates on Sunday too :ninja:

Ok I see. He has a formula but I dont think it will work any more

The original Cesc is only 19 mate, isn't it too early to give the label "New Cesc" to anybody?

hence - not done with the old man just yet. The point I was making was that they have the same type of game, for players so young. Most old pros dont find space as easy to come by as these 2 do. (And I do know how old Cesc is or any other player who plays for us) Cesc is an old head when it comes to the amount of games and the type of games he has played in. Where as Denilson has not played as many high profile games even though he has already played for the Brazil first team.

I think its a measure of how far the respctive players have come that players are already being compared to them rather than the player that are young themselves being compared to others if you catch my drift!

At least one person got it thank you.

Team for Saturday!

Lehmann

Hoyte Toure Senderos Clichy

Walcott FAB Flamini Rosicky

Henry Adebayor

Score I expect 3-1, 3-0 I really dont expect Bolton to raise their gsme enough to best us at home and right now we are oozing confidence!

Smells like TEAM SPIRIT! :D

Same apart from Walcott dont think it will be his type of game just yet. Cant make my mind up who will play on the right could be from

Eboue
Diaby
Song

Still be happy with a 1-0 .......... cant see us losing. Willing take 3-1 and Walcott starts and scores emmmmmmmmmmm dreaming again !

I think Eboue has a slight knock so will probably only start on the bench and Diaby will probably be saved for Spurs LC and he wants to send Song out on loan so I dont think he will play him! Doesnt Song look like he is permantly dreaming?
