Yep Wigan are shit, you will concede 6 at the weekend and you have just appointed a shit manager
In Argentina you are only known for the (unexpectedly) good form you showed under Jewell in the Premiership.
EDIT: Why does the forum replace 'Premiersh1p' (with an 'i') for 'England League'?

As a Manchester Red i've always liked Wigan. Easy points & a nice boot to our goal difference. ;)

there was something likeable about them when they played under paul jewell, but after he left and players like chimbonda camara etc have left there not an interesting team at all

Please tell me the last part of your post is a joke

Because usually the pitches they play on are not used for rugby. Every team has an off day, and looking at their performance against Milan, that sort of display is why they are top.
I think it was a little pop because Arsenal didn't really create many chances.
Phil W.A.F.C
09-03-2008, 21:44
But when i see Man Utd play they always seem a better Footballing side. Luckily there off day came against us. What a point i think we will be ok from here. Just hope it dont go down to the last game of the season and that United have already won/lost the league as they will rape us if they are needing to win.

The one at the JJB Stadium. Yeah we had quite a few. Koumas had quite a few (fuck knows why he plays him), is anyone going to give Wigan any credit for deserving and getting the point? all you go on about is how Arsenal played and about the pitch

Try reading my posts, I've given Wigan plenty of credit. You're undoing it all however by talking nonsense.
Tell me how many decents attempts you had that Almunia had to save? I can think of the Valencia shot which he saved easily, other than that, nothing.

How am i talking nonsense? is it the Valencia bit? well thats true.
We didnt have many apart from that just reading the game facts and we had 3 shots on target to your 6 and we had 3 off target to your four. Not too bad but i will certainly take a point :)

Bruce has done well yeah. One thing though the signing of Marlon King doesnt look a good 1 as yet. I think Bruce expected more from him at this early stage of his switch. But hopefully the goal on saturday gave him some confidence and maybe we have found a replacement for Ellington after all.

Not so sure about the erm..... ellington remark. Ellington is up there with some of the best to put on a wigan shirt. lets just hope Marlon King goe's on to do as well as elly did (cant see it !). greatest player to put that Wigan shirt on has to be no.7 Andy Liddell!!!!!!

I'm not too sure about the Ellington bit either . I think if King gets a few more he will be perfect for next season and finally we might of found a goal scorer. Hopefully we sign Marcus Bent on a permanent deal. Get rid of Aghahowa, Sibierski, Koumas, Skoko and other shit/deadwood in the squad. I'm sure Bruce will sort us out pre-season
you forgot Bramble surely...we got rid of him and now our errors are more frequent, but less slapstick (ie. wigan v man city)

I think there is only so far you can take a club whose fans are pretty shit, Paul 'The Tool' Jewell took them as far as they'll go in the forseeable future anyway.
You can't be consistent in footballing terms when your fans are cynical and don't turn up week in week out.

I think that Bruce can take us further. We need a foreign investor to get rid of Whelen who is scared to 'splash the cash'. I agree with the fans but were a little town that has a big rugby team so that is the reson. I know i go every week home & away so i;m not really arsed about anybody else going

In all fairness mate you should be. If you're on top form and winning matches, playing good football etc, you'll get good crowds, but the "fans" don't want to know when you're at the bottom of the table and not on form. If you've got 20,000+ fans behind the team it can make a huge difference.

I am botherd about how many we get on but when the so called 'top 4' come all the part timers turn up taking pictures of the opposition players and that really winds me up. United last game of the season i bet thats a sell out and apart from the 5,000 that United bring and they 15,000 Wigan fans all the rest would be part timers coming to see Ronaldo and co.

Thats a shame, a big following can do wonders for a team.
When Hull City moved to the KC we were getting 20,000+ in LEAGUE TWO. And consistently through League One we had 18,000-19,000 every home game, shot up both leagues and now City are challenging at the top of the Championship, of course its not ALL down to the fans but a good backing on match day should never be underestimated.

To be honest i didnt like him. He seemed very lazy uninterested but did hold the ball up well very good in the air. We made £5,000 on him so i'm not complaining :D. Campbell does look good from what iv seen of him.

Canny different catchment area though.
Yeah very true mate, very true. But when City were playing at Boothferry Park there were far more people who were more interested in travelling to The Boulevard and Craven Park to follow Hull's rugby teams then come to Boothferry to watch the Tigers.
But as for big clubs in catchment areas, yeah, Hull had nothing barring Leeds who 95% of Hull hate anyway.

Phil is correct Wigan Athletic are nevergoing to get the crowds. Even if european football was being played at the JJb we would still only average around 19-20,000. This is simply because half of wigan watch the 'thugby' and a quater of wigan support the big 4. So this just leaves the other quater to watch the football. To be quite honest i dont really care about the crowds i travel to every game home and away and that will do for me. Also i may add our away following is too bad for a 'small team' like wigan. Wouldnt it be nice phil for one person just to give wigan a good word and credit for where they are ? People forget that 8 years ago we were in division 2 mid-table know we are in the premier league in our third season about to be our fourth (hopefully):erm: and we have also been to cardiff in a cup final  (bt lets forget about that ) lol. Also i would like for us not to be one of the last two games on MOTD :D
Wouldnt it be nice phil for one person just to give wigan a good word and credit for where they are ?
I've always had a soft spot for the like of Wigan, Reading & co. Small sides who make an impact on the top flight despite being small town clubs with limited resources. The big problem you have is without the resources you tend to acheive little. Without any acheivement you are unlikely to garner any further resources.
I'd much rather see these sort of teams stirring the premiership (& pinching good wins here & there) than the monotonous failings of teams like Fulham & Borough...

I've always had a soft spot for the like of Wigan, Reading & co. Small sides who make an impact on the top flight despite being small town clubs with limited resources. The big problem you have is without the resources you tend to acheive little. Without any acheivement you are unlikely to garner any further resources.
I'd much rather see these sort of teams stirring the England League (& pinching good wins here & there) than the monotonous failings of teams like Fulham & Borough...
Finally there IS one person that has something to say.

It didn't matter who was going to take that penalty.
Another England keeper thrown by the wayside by James, Kirkland made one good save whereas James nearly reached double figures.
You were good though, did everything you could to spoil the day for us just couldn't get the ball in the net. Penalty was quite soft if you ask me.

Maybe that answers his critics on hear? People thing Rob Green is the better keeper but not for me. Iv seen Kirkland perform like that most of the season.
Kirkland makes too many errors for me, and I think James, Carson, Foster, Robinson and Green should all be ahead of him.

What errors are them? You cant possibly say that when Robinson has done nothing but errors all season, some people blame Carson for us not getting into the Euro Championships, Foster well, he never plays so how can you call that? Green? what has he done this season?
Green? what has he done this season?
I'll be honest I don't watch as much premiership football as I use to but I really do think Green is a good keeper. He really needs to be given another chance.
The three 4-0s on the trot haven't helped his cause though :erm:

With Robinson I see your point, but apart from a bad 18 months or so, he was good.
Carson made one error, whereas Kirkland has had a history for making a few.
Foster played a hell of a lot last season and the season before, and if you are trying to say injury problems should count against him, how can argue for Kirkland?
Green has been very reliable for West Ham, and back to the error point, has made very few, if any at all.
Kirkland has a decent season, I admit, but he shouldn't be in the England squad, in my opinion.

I thought i'd resurrect the Wigan thread as i havnt been on pesgaming for ages. No summer activity so far but im calm as hardly any one has made signing apart from spurs and chelsea mainly. Linked with a few Hondurans. I just hope Bruce don't think he can find another Palacios. A striker called Amr Zaki from Egypt anybody heard of him? if so please tell me your thoughts on him cheers boys.
I've heard of that Zaki lad apparently he is very good, usually the Egypt stand out player in the Cup of Nations, sure he's been linked with a move to England in the past, not sure how he'll fair though. 40 caps 21 goals not bad.

Daniel De Ridder aint a bad bosman to be honest. When i went Birmingham last season he played well swapping wings like Ronaldo likes doing and was probably the man of the match. Not to bad from Bruce but lets hope Whelan gets his cheque book out for once.

From what iv seen of him he aint been that bad so im only commenting on what i'v seen of him. Looking forwad to the new season if this carrys on, every day something new pops up about signing a player. Jimmy Bullard and Zaki yesterday, AJ and Cattermole today. Very nice.
He was a canny player when he first came onto the scene and showed a lot of promise, but for the past season and a bit, he's become quite shite to be frank. My Boro supporting mates have certainly gone cold on him and most are happy he's off. He's supposedly a bit of a mong as well, getting barred from a lot of clubs around here.
I hope you don't plan on playing him in midfield with Michael Brown though mate. There's more creativity in a packet of quavers tbh.
Phil W.A.F.C
23-07-2008, 20:29
He wont be playing anyway i presume it will be Palacios and Kapo and hopefully it will be. If Bullard signs then he has a selection headache. Koumas, Palacios, Brown, Kapo, De Ridder, Kilbane, Valencia, Taylor, Bouaouzan, Cotterill are all that he has to pick from and with the additions of Cattermole and Bullard then i wouldnt like to pick his midfield every week.
Cattermole's ego won't allow him not to play tbh, if Burra are selling him it really says it all.
Phil W.A.F.C
02-08-2008, 21:22
A little low down on the new signings. Zaki looks amazing, Kapo showed glimpses of talent but lacks fitness. de Ridder looks and handfull, Figeuroa looks like he will give Edman a tough time trying to get back in the starting 11, Cattermole looked of boil and didnt look the same as what he did at Barnsley last tuesday of what iv heard of him. All of this is from the Sheffield Wednesday game iv been at today.

Scharner did look pretty unfit.
Man, I felt a bit bad after the game. I'm not particularly a Wigan fan, but you guys should've at least pulled a draw, as you definitely deserved it. Overall, you looked significantly better than last year; if you can repeat showings like that second half performance and get a little more clinical around the box, you should pick up a few places this season.

Yeah i think we'll be ok. Bruce went all out for it towards the end by bringing Koumas and de Ridder on for Scharner and Melchiot. Valencia went wing back with de Ridder right wing and Koumas went in the midfield (by the way he's still shit) Boyce and Figueroa went centre half. Im not to sure what he will do with de Ridder and Valencia but Valencia is a differant gravy and de Ridder is a really good player but he seems to want to play them both. Just have to wait and see what happens but yeah 2nd half performance was a joy to behold.

I wish you was right mate. There i was thinking we was gonna score but fuck all going forwad. We need some fucking striker that are gonna be decent back up instead of a too old Sibierski and a passed it Camara. After Zaki and Heskey we have nothing! which is quite annoying knowing both Heskey and Zaki wasnt doing much after 60 minutes. Fair play but i think the midfield we have is a really decent one lining up with Kapo on the left, Palacios and Cattermole (the answer to your new central midfielder) and Valencia on the right. Your correct with another centre back. I think Bruce and Scharner have had a fall out because of him coming out of international retirement and playing first team for Austria with there new coach.

Why was that i didn't watch the game. Did he play bad? No Fabrice Muamba plays for Bolton.
Cattermole is shite.
Newcastle fan not rating a former boro player?

I was expecting it to be spurs who made a move, it was laways gonna happen with him only being on loan.

I'm actually confident of him staying. One good thing to come out of his loan move is that he can't do what Chimbonda did and hand in a transfer request after a good first season and break the fan's hearts. I'v fell out with Heskey big time though :realmad:.

If he did leave you and join Liverpool it would ruin any chance he has of playing at the World Cup, he wouldn't play as much and wouldn't be as noticable, never thought i'd ever be saying this but he should stay at Wigan if he wants to play in the world cup.

Great quote i actually do agree with you very much there but money talks and so does Champions League football which he has come out and said he wants to play again before he retires so we have to wait and see 'til January.
Better than fucking Nicky Butt.Well it's not hard is it?
He'll never be in the same class as he was in his prime though.

Oh the irony.
Just transferred Zaki into my sun dream team yesterday. Thank you Amr!

Can't argue with £20 for our away visit. I can argue with the kick-off time and GMP being pin-heads but that's by-the-by.

Fantastic little video, i suggest you have a look. It's part of the african nations player of the year award advertisement.
C'mon Amr anc co. tomorrow we can beat Villa, a repeat of last season at Villa Park will do me.

Given the current defensive issues both of our teams have, should be a cracker going forward, anyway. Good luck.

Will Carew be playing tomorrow Eristic?
As far as I know. He's supposed to be well again, though perhaps a bigger problem is the probable lack of Agbonlahor to complement him.
I suspect:
-----------Friedel------------
Young-Cuellar-Laursen-Shorey
--------Reo-Coker-----------
---------------Petrov--------
-----------------------Barry-
Milner-----------------------
---------------Young--------
------Carew-----------------
I'd kinda like to see Sidwell get a start instead of Petrov or Reo-Coker, but I doubt it'll happen.

Don't fix something that isn't broke, Reo-Coker has been very solid so far, not a bad performance in yet, and i use the word yet very strongly :fplm:

It's more a "we spent the money, so give the guy a shot" thing than it is a performance issue. I haven't had any major problems with the showings from the midfield to the front, I just want to see what the guy can do. Someone in that midfield is bound to need a rest, too.

Yeah should be a great game not long to go anyway going to the pub so to get a few bevvys before the game so can't wait be honest. I think Amr will once again be superb IMO but i think Villa will be to strong
My prediction seeing as i got the City score correct, 1-1.

No complaints about today. Absolute second rate performance by all of the players today. Boyce at right-back why? Fuck Scharner off and play Taylor right-back. Heskey can go now cos we all know whats happening in January. Jason Koumas well where do i start? Seriously he isn't fit to wear the shirt. 10 minutes to go and shit head Bruce sticks Michael Brown on, just one little question why? What is the point?
Anyway i'm not taking anything away from Aston Villa they looked a classy side and well worth the money. John Carew = Quality.
We may not be the the best side in the world but we're are a much better side than your lot ;).
Papa wait til wednesday, oh and surely you can post better than that?
I'm not one to lord wins over people (mainly because Fulham never win) but I do love it when "fighting words" fall flat on their face.
I wasn't at the game because I had to work but I'm glad to see Johnson starting scoring.

Johnsons second was a beauty, quick little free-kick and a great run, good finish aswell
Wigan are in a spot of bother Phil?
I think the way they lost at Anfield has affected them slightly. Still expect them to turn it round soon.

, i'll admit i'm gonna stop firing my mouth until Bruce has finished. Good win fair play papa

I think we are in a spot bother your right, Why play Kevin Kilbane over Olivier Kapo? Scharner has been shit all season. Just because Bramble made a bad timing challenge on Agbonlahor Bruce decides to drop him.
See you later to Valencia, Zaki, Heskey and Palacios because at this rate they won't wanna stay at a club like Wigan and if they have the right frame of mind they will get out whilst they can.

Brickmakers inn about a 5 minute walk away from the groung but i actually can't direct you there because i'm shit at that stuff. There is also the legends bar in the soccerdome which is where you will park if your on the coach but i bet your on the train. Can't wait for this nath, this rivalry relates back to the good old division two days eh?

Six-fucking-nil. :fplm:
I'm on the coach as I didn't fancy being turned away by GMP as they did with the Man City fans after getting some sly under-hand banning order.
I still can't forgive the Wigan fans for singing through Sir Stan's minute silence. I will enjoy one of your pies though. :smug:
