Ronaldo7
11-11-2005, 15:58
its ronaldo7 actually and again, strikers? just general cover for Ruud, a big tall box player. Babel or someone like that would be good, as even if Saha and Solskjaer do come back will they be able to play at the same level?

Guillermo
11-11-2005, 17:20
Fergie needs to look elsewhere, I doubt we'll get Ballack, and I don't want Duscher, especially not in some sort of trade for Saha. I think Fergie should take a good at Roma and Borussia Dortmund as they have excellent quality in their sides, but underachieve and are strapped for cash.

People like De Rossi, Rosicky, Mexes, Chivu, Ricken, even as far as Totti (although I seriously don't think we have the funds for him) would be perfect for us. Personally I'd love to see us buy Rosicky and Chivu more than anyone else.

And latest news is that Ruud will miss the game against Charlton:crymore:

deftones5
11-11-2005, 17:28
yeah they're all great players esp. rosicky, de rossi and chivu, i def think duscher is overrated. has anyone seen much of didier zokora??? he's meant to be really good

no way.look:
regsitered strikers = rooney, van nistelrooy, saha, solskjear, ROSSI.
people who can play striker = giggs, ronaldo, smith etc.
we just dont need one.

deftones5
11-11-2005, 17:52
yeah we need a central midfielder and some defensive back up more than anything

Ronaldo7

And are any of those similar to Van Nistelrooy? i think not and thats the point i was trying to make. As far as Ronaldo playin as a striker goes, that would not be a good choice at all, his finishing is probably the weakest part of his game. Now that Van Nistelrooy cant play against Charlton whos gonna partner Rooney, Rossi? Smith? THAT is why we need cover for him.

i dont know anything about Zokora, i would rather have Rosicky out of all those, ive been saying for ages that we should get him and even before the end of last season i was trying to suggest he would be the best option. Chivu is a bit of an uncertainty, he is a good player but is he good enough for Man U? I admind I havent really seen enough to make an informed desicion, but from what I have seen im not too sure.

BANJO!!!!

and unless i'm mistaken we dont have the kind of budget to get any more £25-30m strikers. ruud is a class goal poacher but theres no-one else of his style around that can just pop up under the radar.

and the ronaldo but was meant when we play 4-3-3 with ruud and roon but we're hopefully away from that now...

deftones5
11-11-2005, 18:16
i can't take 4-3-3 anymore this season it makes us look like a mid-table team. it'd only work if we had 3 worldclass midfielders which fletcher definately isn't!!!

i would be willing to put my life savings on ballack stayin to the end of the season. it makes no sense for him. HE WON'T BE ABLE TO PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IF HE MOVES IN JAN!!

mate you ahve to see thsi from the teams perspective...if ballack is not willing to renew his contract...they dont care if he wants to win it w/ them or not..they care about is the money genrating from his transfer...if he doesnt sign a contract he will be a free agent and bayern will lose around 13M pounds of potential profit..so theyll try and offload him to some other club and sicne hes cup-tied tehres no chance of him ruining bayerns chances ... so jan is more benfitial for both clubs....

EDIT: yeah signing either MExes and De Rossi from Roma will more than welcomed by me...dmc and sweeeper need greatly

executioner
12-11-2005, 14:20
ok lads, out of all the players we're supposedly after how much (money wise) would you rate them each since we hate a certain budget (I think its £20m now...apparently..)
so values for our future prospects?

Guillermo
12-11-2005, 20:23
I think around 10m for the likes of Rosicky, Mexes or De Rossi. If we went for someone a bit cheaper, e.g. Dellas, then he'd probably be a lot cheaper and cost 5m downwards.

yea, it says they've withdrawn their contract offer, the strongest hint yet that he'll leave, and why not to united? i'd love to see him at united but we need a few new players in, but i really dont think we'll get the sort of signings we're all hoping for. i have a bad feeling we could end up with kleberson and djemba-djemba mark2.

the charlton game is massive for united. we cant do like we did last year, beat arsenal, lose to portsmouth. what a waste it'd be to go and vanquish chelsea and then lose ground straight away.

i must say though, even after the chelsea win i still think theres no way we'll win the premiership, not with a midfield as weak as ours.

but lests be honest here, what team in the world can gaurantee you champions league glory??? none. and if liverpool can win the champions league then why not united? the difference between winning and losing is so small these days, and if he's the player i believe him to be, he's got the arrogance to believe he can turn this team around.

vanNistelrooy
15-11-2005, 18:59
then why not united?

Fletcher might have something to do with it! I have no problem with him when Keano is playing, as he has someone to fall back on. But without Keano there's no-one there to rip his head off when he does it.

I still can't believe Liverpool actually won it though, expecially after how much of an amazing first half AC Milan played, probably the best football I've seen in years!

Vieira: I Could Be The Keane
Mischief-maker Patrick Vieira has told Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he would be the ideal choice to replace midfield veteran Roy Keane. Vieira, 29, who left Arsenal for Juventus in a £13million summer move, hinted that he would be interested in joining United as Roy Keane's long-term successor. "You never know what's going to happen in the next few years," said Vieira. "I have signed a contract with Juventus but anything can happen and then the door will be open to anybody."
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror

Great performance. Fantastic second goal and a manic celebration too, Ruud had a superb game.

Rooney was absoloutley immense once again. The lad is a phenominal talent the likes of which Ingerland have never ever produced before.

can anyone tell me, apart from his goal how did smithy play today??

Exactly the same as he always plays. Totally committed, put in a few very good tackles but was caught out far too much and made the wrong decision a couple of times. He's not a bad player, he's just not a good enough midfielder to play for a team with supposed title aspirations. Fletcher played fairly poorly, but it was great to see Scholes having a decent game for a change.

It was the strikers that won us the game today, and in Rooney and Van Nistelrooy we have two of the best in the world.

As for Keane?

He was leaving at the end of the season anyway, he`s 34, barely plays and isn't half as good when he does. He`s the reason why we persist with this 5 in midfield nonsense and has probably stunted the search for a similar box to box midfielder over the last few years. Possibly our best/most important ever player, I love the man, but whats with the wailing and gnashing of teeth? Get some perspective. Compared to whats happened at united over the last 6 months off the pitch - the infighting, the disintegration of match-going routines, the loss of mates... a player leaving is fook all.

Don't get me wrong, I was chanting Keano with the rest of them at the Charlton match yesterday, and he's been a fantastic player for the club... but get some perspective.

Don't get me wrong, I was chanting Keano with the rest of them at the Charlton match yesterday, and he's been a fantastic player for the club... but get some perspective.

yea i know what you mean mate, but its just the significance that this really marks the end of an era. many people just cant imagine united without roy keane, but of course the club goes on and your right, we've had worse things happen.

and he may not be half as good as he used to when he does play, but thats still better than what any of central midfielder at this club currently is capable of (smithy? fletcher? i dont think so)

again totally right about smithy, he's a great lad and works so hard but i've never been that impressed with his ability even in his leeds days, i just dont think he's good enough to be a cornerstone of a manchester united starting 11. as a squad player then definately but especially now keanes gone smith will be almost gauranteed a starting place.

This is just another chapter beginning in our long and illustrious history.

The atmosphere at Charlton yesterday was electric. It's usually good because of the huge stand they give us behind the goal, but yesterday was different. It was almost as if there was a compulsion to let everyone know involved in the saga that began the moment the final whistle blew at the Riverside that it's time to move on without blame. There were plenty of Keane songs - and rightly so, this is a man who lead our side to unimaginable heights and who is in the best ever category of United greats. But there was support Ferguson, and more than enough support to the team he's left behind. And plenty of reminders of how United are much more than one player, or even one manager. If there are to be recriminations, then this clearly wasn't the game to start them.

There's no doubt that the loss of Roy Keane is a massive blow to Manchester United. But time marches on at it had to come sooner rather than later. Whether it had to be this soon, given what may or may not have happened in the lead up to his departure, we may or may not ever not, and perhaps it should remain that way. The players that are left, particularly Ruud, Ronaldo and Rio are fine players. Given that Scholes on this performance is long from finished, given a fit Brown is an enormous asset, and given the supporting cast have the ability to improve, the ineveitabiltiy of life without the diminishing force of our beloved Keane, had to start sometime and it had to be now.

That given, there's one more player who needs a mention. Rooney is simply the best young player United have ever had. If he has the career of Keane, and stays in the red shirt of United for it, then the pain of Keane will soon fade as the future begins in the hands of another legend in the making.

Well it's impossible to compare Georgie and Rooney, but I think it'd be very hard to argue that Georgie was as good as Rooney is at his age. Georgie was the greatest player I have ever seen play football, but if Rooney stays at United for his career, then he has the potential to be the greatest player in the club's history without a doubt- he's already the best young player we have ever had.

dissapointing result tonight, really thought we'd score a couple but it wasnt to be, came close and rooney again showed why he's capable of becoming the greatest player to ever pull on a red shirt. all that we need is a bit more quality in the midfield. the wide men just weren't doing it tonight, fletcher was awful and ronaldo had his moments but struggled against their right back. i must say, the vilarreal number 2, gonzalo was excellent, made some terrific challenges and made ruud look toothless at times. well we've got it all to do now, need to beat benfica. i do find our champions league performances worrying in all honesty. not enough goals and just not outstanding performances like we've been used to in the past. makes you a think how far behind we are behind teams like milan, juventus, bayern etc at the moment. having said that, on our day i still believe we can beat anybody as the chelsea game proved, but we havent quite turned the corner just yet but we're certainly gettin closer

the players really need to know how important the benfica game is now, much much bigger than chelsea. this is the biggest game of our season - period. united cannot survive financially without champions league football. and not qualifying for the knock out phases isnt exactly going to boost our chances of lining up a new top quality sponser whose willing to pay top dollar now is it? (in case you didnt know the deal with vodafone has been cancelled as of the end of this season)

i know its not all about money but we have to be realistic and realise that united are in huge debt and performance on the pitch will bring performance off it, just as failure will have a reverse effect. this game is huge now and we need to win. simple as.

Taken from my post in the George Best thread in Off Topic.

Never was a footballer so aptly named.

Didn't reached his full potential for United and still mesmerised home and away fans in a way that no other British player has ever done. Easily the most talented footballer I have ever had the fortune of watching, and the best footballer ever as far as I'm concerned.

59 is no age at all, but he's lived the life of two men.

There's United fans today who never saw Cantona's brilliance during the '90s, these fans can watch his every kick of the ball because it was all recorded on video. Georgie's greatest moments were never, and the only people who can really claim to have seen the best of George were the people who went to watch him at OT.

I just hope West Ham fans will shut the fuck up during the minutes silence at the weekend and give the bloke the respect he deserves, though I can't see it happening given the fact that West Ham fans are a shower of hoors. Personally I'd like to see a minute's applause for Georgie.

Thanks George, you'll never be forgotten. RIP.

Putting aside todays sad news for a second...

I'm very disappointed if Fergie actually believes this. Scholes is in decline and we have no other attacking central midfielder... so of course we need him! Also he is also quoted as saying we need squad players... sounds dangerously like Djemba Djemba talk to me. We don't need "squad" players, we need a couple of world class superstars.

Great win today, there were periods where we looked amazing and like the Man U of yesteryear. Fletcher however, put in another awful performance and Ronaldo did not even make an appearance?! Silvestre has once again re-inforced our belief that he needs to go in January with his woeful performance. Had he stayed on the pitch I doubt we would have won.
Here is a quote from the Sunday Times Sports section today in which Ferguson talks about his summer targets.

“In the longer view, the summer is probably more important in terms of the player we’re interested in. The player that you’d want to get, you can’t get in January. His club won’t let him go. He’s cup-tied in the Champions League, but that’s not the most important thing. You’ve got to have two parties to agree the transfer and the other party would not sell him at the moment,” Ferguson said.

He would not, of course, parley names and cackled: “Youse (reporters) will probably have 40 players linked with us on Sunday. Go ahead, you might hit the coo’s backside with the banjo.”

Gattuso anyone?

Great game. Easily the best we've played for ages, it went a fair way to restoring a bit of positivity after our skipper disappears with a decade of memories, our Best disappears with a lifetime of them. And all this following the summer which saw us lose our club. It's enough to send you over the edge.

Rooney was world-class, and not saying that there's anything wrong with Ruud being captain, but there was only one leader for us on Sunday, and Rooney ran himself to a standstill for the good of the team.

If there was a negative, then it was undoubtedly the way Silvestre was bullied all over the park by Harewood. Nothing against the lad, but simply, he's not a shadow on Rio or Wes and I wouldn't be disappointed if he was sold in January.

Ray_H
29-11-2005, 01:11
agreed, mikey just isnt as good as wes. wes is top draw if you ask me, when he's on the top of his game i reckon he's better than rio.

mikey was bullied silly by harewood, who may be big but dont half go down like a sack of potatos when he has the chance. add to that the fact that he's got the touch of a bus and i wouldnt say he's the most difficult opponent you'll ever face.

rooney was truly awesome once again but must say ruud and scholsey were also on top form.

we're looking good again, though a word of caution, charlton and west ham are the sort of teams that'll let you get the ball down and play football, no 10 men behind the ball with them. dont be surprised if we see a far from sparkling performance next time we're at OT, we've struggled at home and teams are just sitting back and making it more difficult for us, certainly more than they do away from home

agreed, mikey just isnt as good as wes. wes is top draw if you ask me,

funny that in over a season ago if you made that statement you would have been shot....dont prasie the lad yet(and undermine mikey)...he has only just return from a lenghty injury and most likely be more motivated to play footie.
and as for mikey form is temprorary....he is just in bad patch, a couple of weeks on the bench should keep him on his toes..dont sell the lad..

i did say over a year ago that wes was quality, i've said it since he 1st got into the team. i still think he should have gone to euro 2004, his form leading up to that was superb. had he not had so many injuries he'd easily be mentioned in the same breath as rio, terry, carragher etc

as for mikey, i thought he was useless when we 1st signed him. he's been solid the last few years but he's still error prone. no doubt he's a quality player, but if he left in the transfer window i wouldnt go crying into my pint. it wouldn't exactly be a massive blow. not like stam leaving was

And that's exactly the view shared by most reds. I dunno what planet this other guy is on.

The ongoing saga between Lyn midfielder John Obi Mikel, United and Chelsea shows no signs of abating.

Earlier in the week Mikel's lawyer Stephen Tregear accused Lyn director Morgan Andersen of fabricating the contract signed by the player last April.

Andersen has subsequently been called in by the Oslo police for alleged falsification of two signatures on the 18-year-old's contract, penned a week before the Nigerian signed for United.

This latest accusation has been dubbed a 'media coup' by Lyn lawyer Erik Nadheim, whilst chairman Sveinung Lunde claims he will fight all the charges brought against the club and its employees.

"Together, we will give a reply through our lawyer to Fifa and the Oslo court," confirmed Lunde to TV2.
"We do not understand the accusations against Morgan Andersen."

The Nigeria international sued the club on Friday in the hope of getting his contract with them annulled, which would allow him to join Chelsea and not us.

However, Nadheim believes that a court ruling is unlikely to take place before the end of 2006, which would block any transfer.
"I can confirm that I represent John Obi Mikel and that we have sued the football club FC Lyn," confirmed another of the player's lawyers, Helge Morten Svarva.
Fifa, who ruled in favour of the Norwegian club earlier this year, will wait for the court verdict before making any further comment.

Whilst officials from both parties fight in the courts, Lyn coach Henning Berg has been left to lament the fact the player has now gone AWOL.

Again.

I am happy to report some great news:
Monday return for Ole
Injury plagued Norwegian striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pencilled in for a run out for Manchester United's reserves on Monday.

The Norwegian has not featured for the first team since coming on as a substitute in the 2004 FA Cup final win over Millwall.

A long-standing knee injury has been the source of Solskjaer's problems, but there could finally be some light at the end of the tunnel for the popular 32-year-old.

The Red Devils face Liverpool's reserves on Monday evening and Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to bring the Norwegian in from the cold.

"Ole should start or play against Liverpool," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News. "On Tuesday he hadn't trained with the first team at all but he has trained with us for the first time and he looked absolutely terrific.

"I am really pleased about this and there is some light at the end of the tunnel now."
:D :D :D

It'd be great if he was on the bench for the everton game, as I'm going up for that match
