You're not anti Man Utd and yet you have that sig :p
On today's game, it's so annoying we are so inconsistant. Again I blame it on the midfield who just can't cope when teams come at us, as was bound to happen in a derby.
Still there there is time for a late come back... maybe... :(

As funny as it was, it should never have been a red. Yes, there was intent, but he missed him by a mile. A yellow would've sufficed.

Couldn't agree more. No contact, no sending off.
I wanted Uinted to win that. Keep the pressure on Chelski and all that jazz. Mourinho and the boys may as well start parading the Premiership Trophy down Kings Road tonight.
If United are to be anywhere near the force they were in 1999 they need to make some real changes... and soon!!!

havnt seen the foul so im not gonna comment wether a red was justified or not it all depends on the intention doesnt it, if a foul was intended then its a foul, if he went for the ball the a yellow would have been sufficient, two footed definate red, from behind debatable, last man or dive in area or deliberate handball all straight red
I think Man U need to sell Silvestre as quick as possible. He had an awful game!
Especially as they ahve Evra, O'Shea, Richardson and Heinze (when fit) at laft back, and Ferdinand, Brown, Vidic etc. at centre back.

Yea.
I don't care how much lack on match fitness Vidic had, he would have still done a better job then Silvestre. It looked like Vassell vs a 10 year old.

God can we not just release Silvestre from the club?
I think that Saha was good when he came on and gave United some fire up front as Rooney and Ruud were not doing anything.
Silvestre has to go as he left Vassell unmarked as he scored and was really scrappy today. Also Smith should have started as he was one of the best players on the pitch after he came on.
Evra didn't have to good a game he kept trying long passes or shots from 50 yards and he also got beaten in the air for the 1st goal.

1 player who I thought had an unusually decent game was John O'Shea  Anyone else feel he played well?
Ha. Fucking useless. All the build up to the Derby match and United where pathetic.
Uniteds Best player was Rio Ferdinand. Others that played well included O'shea and smith.
Rooney, Ronaldo, Silvestre where poor and kept giving the ball away.
Fergie should not have played Evra.
vanNistelrooy
14-01-2006, 17:56
Fergie should not have played Evra.
Fergie said he played Silvestre instead of Brown as he is French, and could help Evra who doesn't speak English yet. Then why not wait to play him till he learns some English. Ruud shouldn't have played, as he isn't match fit.
Yea i knew that but still could fergie not have played him in a less profile game? say a home match vs West ham....
Ruud was none existant for most of the match but 1 slight chance one goal.
Ronaldo should never have been sent off. 1st City goal offside?
Lets not be too harsh on silvestre he always plays shite vs City

Shocking. Never a red card. Ronaldo actually retracted his studs before they went anywhere near Cole plus no contact made, ludicrous decision.
What I found disturbing is the amount of space United let City have throughout the match, hardly any man marking from what I saw. City players free all over the park.
We need a complete revamp in central midfielder, Fletcher isn't special, Scholes is passed it, and playing an average striker out of position isn't helpful either. Need to get players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and make a difference.
Liverpool and Chelsea, the best 2 this year have great central midfielders with Gerrard (even though he's on the right), Alonso and Makelele, Lampard respectively. Whereas United and Arsenal have lacked behind.
man a very poor resuct today:(damn ref!!:(and one thing that topped it was the Arsenal thrashing:(:(:(:(:mad:anyone know if evra or vidic played?

I'm a United fan who stands by the players through alot but i do feel that now is the time to sell Silvestre as this season he has been awful and it's making me nervous. I think Vidic is just what we need in the defence but i feel sorry for Brown who has been great so far this season. Also, Saha has got a good goal to game ratio this season so anyone who says he's shit can piss off!
Isn't his goal to game ratio 10 games and 5 goals which is pretty damn good, he also gave Man Utd hope today when he came on as he added some pace to the frontline which they were missing.

I thought Rooney was suspended for the Burton game, if he is Saha will likely start. I thought Saha added something different to the team once he came on against City.
Why was Park not in the squad today? Is he injured?
I felt sorry for Evra being put up against Sinclair, the height difference meant Sinclair won every header. At times the language barrier is going to be a major issue and until it is resolved he should not be playing in big games like this or against Liverpool.

Why was Wes Brown on the bench?
god knows, apparently cos Silvestre speaks French and he played to help evra out, but that is an awful reason to play someone. May as well have brought Laurent Blanc back...
Oh lord, where to start. Silvestre has been consistantly poor so far this season, Brown should have played no question at all. However I am glad Rio is finally getting back to his old self and we see less errors from him, but vice versa for Neville. Patrice Evra was okay, didn't do good but didn't do bad. We now have 2 completely different types of Left-Backs within Heinze and Evra, Heinze being the more defensive character and Evra the more attacking and pacey kind. But today Evra was caught out many times, he left his position vulnerable by storming forward and leaving the gap. On occasions he recovered well but on others he was nowhere. Also Vidic, many people are saying he is what we need etc. yet they probably haven't even seen him play. He could turn out good and he could not, it is a gamble.

Other than our Cup Winner's Cup triumph in 1994, success for us (i.e, while I was alive and continued success) as a club only really began in 1998. However we all know it was a lot earlier for United. Perhaps that's why you support them?

AgentZero
16-01-2006, 13:16
i wouldn't say city has a weaker side..on the day
we had a debutant and our regular hoakeys: Silvestre, O'shea and a red card from Ronaldo
so a 10 men united+hoakeys were far weaker than city
Stella Artois
16-01-2006, 13:18
You didn't have to play Evra. Giving him his debut in a derby match was quite a stupid thing to do, especially when you had Wes Brown on the bench.
What's a hoakey? I assume it's a shit player, in which case it's your fault for having them in your squad.
AgentZero
16-01-2006, 13:29
a hoakey is not necessarily a shit player..they can be good at times, great even..but 85% of the time they're really crap
It does my head in why SAF still plays silvestre in the heart of defence.. playing Evra there wasn't a bad idea, he is a natural Left-Back and should do well. But kudos for him trying his best (i hope)
but O'Shea in midfield and smith on the bench along with Mikael instead of Wes just sums up the tip of my frustrations
Fuckin' disgraceful game. Absoloute debacle.
I'm a fairly young man so I've never really known too many hard times when it comes to derbies. I was 11 on September 23rd 1989, and I remember being mortified, but only in so much as a 12 year old can be. Then for 13 years it was plain sailing, with many memorable games along the way...
I thought last year's derby was fairly shite, atmosphere wise and everything else, even though we won. And so to Saturday…
It hurt. It was a more painful defeat than the 4 - 1, but in comparison to 9/11 it doesn't even register. People will cry 'lack of effort' and 'not playing for the shirt', but as true as that is, we were still the better side for most of the game and we had the chances to win it. Ronaldo should've buried at least one of two first half headers, and you'd expect Rooney to have slotted that one past James 9 out of 10 times. Then Tefal-head Silvestre had his say and that was that. What was he doing on the pitch?
Our best defender of recent weeks has been Wes, so he gets dropped to give Evra his debut. Evra doesn't speak English, so stick a man who clearly has no confidence whatsoever and who has been comfortably our worst defender in recent weeks into centre half so he can 'talk Evra through the game'. This is the fuckin' derby, Alex, not some training ground 8-a-side. You play our best 11 in the derby and you win at all costs. What more important games are there that players need to be rested for? Experiments should be left for games like Burton on Wednesday. It's Monday morning and the dust has settled, but at half time on Saturday I was ready to commit murder.
It isn't all bad though. It's good that there was the intensity of a proper derby, off the pitch at least, which I don't think you could say about either of the other derbies at the new ground, and any derby at OT in the last 10 years other than the cup game 2 years ago. It's scant consolation when we've been turned over, but there was a real venom in the air which is only good for future derbies. After the final whistle I walked into town amongst them, and witnessed grown men, holding the hands of their kids no less, singing various ditties incorporating the word 'Munich'. Good. I witnessed a block of supporters to our right (just below the famous Rangers flag) sing "City… we're from Manchester" underneath 3 other flags - 1st East Belfast supporters club, East Midlands supporters club and East Yorkshire supporters club. Nice - and I thought it was good to see some proper needle re-enter Manchester's biggest footballing day of the year. Shame it couldn't have been replicated by those on the pitch. I badly hope we get them in the cup now.

They can happen everyday, but these locker room problems are starting to look more obvious in your club. A team with a squad of such quality cannot perform this poor. Dont know if its the veterans that are full of the crap of the idiot youngsters like Ronaldo or if your players are losing faith in Sir Alex, but something clearly is not right.

The 'thing that's not right' is that we do not have a quality squad.
Once, not so long ago, we'd laugh when a blue would say which of our players wouldn't get in their side. Now though, I'd agree that there are at least five that made an appearance in red that would struggle. And that's a disgrace.
^^^ exactly. the squad is poor, and we back it up by buying a centre half with a webbed foot and a 3foot tall left back. great, just great.
in all honesty its unfair picking on the new lads, vidic hasnt even played.
just cant believe how awful we can be. especially at the back, micky cant play centre half, he's been drowning when he's out there the last few weeks.

Cole won't leave and even if he does we have Clichy.

He admits he made a mistake, but he is free to do as he likes in my opinion. If he wants to leave, he'll say so.
Cristiano Ronaldo could be leaving United in the summer according to the Daily Mirror.
The paper reckons that the winger, who had his ban for a late challenge on Andy Cole in the derby upheld yesterday, could be off to Italy or Spain.
Real Madrid, Juventus and Valencia could all make bids of 30 million euro.
And to back up their claims the Mirror adds that United are interested in Getafe winger Riki.
Martin Ferguson met the 25-year-old, real name Ivan Sanchez-Rico, against Celta Vigo at the weekend.

Rossi is an excellent youngster. I've wanted people to see what he's really capable of, does really well for reserves when I go, but seems to get nervous on the first team stage, but yesterday he delivered.
Silvestre did OK, which really suprised me, supplied a good cross for Rossi's first.
Bad points - Saha and Fletcher :(
Wouldn't there be an uproar if you got rid of him? I know many of the 14 year old chavs round here who support United would be crying if you did.
Popular opinion is more or less split completely down the middle on this one.
It's worth remembering that he has recently had to deal with the death of his father, and a rape allegation all in a foreign country, and whilst that doesn't excuse poor form, it does demonstrate the hard time that Ronaldo has endured recently.
About half of us reckon he's got the talent and natural ability to be a great player for us who should be given time to find some form, whilst the other half think that he's an overrated, ineffective winger who can only deliver a decent end-product 20% of the time.
Me? I tend to lean towards the latter. There's absoloutley no doubting that Ronaldo is a very talented youngster and he's exciting to watch, but there isn't a single red who would disagree with me that although talented, he is incredibly frustrating. If we received a £28 million bid from Real Madrid, then I would urge Fergie to sell.
Oh... and I didn't even include the United 'fans' (sic) from god knows where who have an unhealthy obsession about Ronaldo, but they might tip the balance slightly.

United are preparing to cut their losses on the Nigerian striker John Obi Mikel and sell him to Chelsea. United are hoping to get £6m for the brilliant 18-year-old.
It will end one of the most ridiculous transfer sagas in English football. United's contract with Mikel, signed in April last year, is legal by Norwegian law and Mikel lost a case at a Fifa tribunal to overturn it.
Mikel has been missing since November when he left Lyn Oslo mid-season without permission and his work permit was cancelled by the Norwegian government at the start of this month.
He has been named in the senior Nigeria squad for the African Nations' Cup tournament though.
It's a great shame, because along with Barcelona's Lionel Messi, he was the stand out player in last year's World Youth Cup in Holland.

Where did you get this from? It's a pity but based on his attitude all that could be done. Though i'd prefer keeping him the length of his contract, until he showed some effort or could sit on the bench. Then sell him for £6 million before he can get off on a free.

Anyone know what's happening with Ballack? Is he going/has he gone to Inter? Would love him in midfield.
Also, predictions for tomorrow anyone? I'll settle for a 1-0 (to be honest I'd settle for 0-3, as long as Peter Crotch doesn't score any of them!)

I BELIEVE THAT IN THAT AWEFUL DERBY MATCH, THE ONLY PLAYER THAT WAS CREATING CHANCES AND DOING SOMETHING FOR THE TEAM WAS RONALDO (WELL UP UNTILL THE SENDING OFF). THERE IS A DISTINCT LACK OF CLASS IN MIDFIELD, IF U LOOK BACK TO THE TEAM 5 OR MORE YEARS AGO IT WAS GIGGS, SCHOLE, KEANE AND BECKHAM ARGUABLEY THE BEST MIDFIELD EVER TO GRACE A PITCH.
NOW WHAT DO WE HAVE
GIGGS - AN OUT OF FORM INJURED (PASSED IT)
o'SHEA - WHAT THE F&$# IS HE DOING IN MIDFIELD
SMITH - A SURPERB STRIKER GOOD AT HOLDING THE BALL UP BUT NOT A MIDFIELDER, HE CANT PASS
J.S.PARK - GOOD PLAYER GIVES HIS BEST ALL THE TIME BUT IS PUSHED OF WAY TO EASY NEEDS TO BULK UP.
FLETCHER - IT SEEMS THE THE MORE HE TRYS THE MORE MISTAKES HE MAKES, I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO BE A SUPERSTAR ANOTHER KEANE /
BECKHAM BUT NOT TO BE SHIP HIM OFF OR KEEP AS RESERVE LIKE FORTUNE WHO DOESNT DESERVE A GAME.
SCHOLES - POOR GUY HAS EYE PROBLEMS WE ARE LET TO BELIEVE, HE DOESNT HAVE MUCH LEFT.
RONALDO - WE ALL KNOW HES TALENTED, NEEDS TO TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL, I DONT THINK ANY MANCHESTER FAN WILL BE HAPPY WITH HIM TILL HE CAN TAKE A GAME BY THE SCRUFF OF IT NECK AND DOMINATE, ITS ALL THERE FOR HIM. MAYBE FERGUSON IF HE DOES STAY SHOULD PLAY HIM BEHIND THE 2 STRIKERS AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO CENTRAL.
RICHARDSON - HIS FIRST SENIOR MATCHES WAS GETTING MANHANDLED BUT NOW IS GIVING IT BACK GREAT TO SEE, HES GETTING MORE STRONGER AND CAN WHIP A BALL IN. HE NEEDS MORE TIME AND AT THE AGE 21 THERE ISNT MUCH TIME LEFT TO ASSERT HIMSELF ON THE LEFT AS THE NEW GIGGS. I FEEL THERES TO MUCH COMPETION FOR HIM NOW.

Also correct.
Problem is we're probably never going to see the complete squad overhaul that is needed if we want to challenge for the championship each year. There needs to be a good £70 million spent bringing in new players this year, and with the Jewry of Glazer then I would be astounded if he authorised such a thing.
First team wise, we need another right back, two central midfielders and a winger. Whilst our first eleven may be very good, short only in midfield, it's a theme of mediocraty that runs throughout the club in all positions and one that needs addressing within the next couple of weeks.

So what if he's always angry? Would be nice to see some emotion at OT.
What's the deal with Park, is he fit or is he injured. Don't know wether or not I'm glad that Ronaldo is suspended because he has been seriously hit and miss this season. Silvestre can't possibly play and I hope he is replaced by Brown has been solid at the back. Will Vidic play, I doubt it and I also have concerns about Evra playing today. As usual we are relying on Ruud and Rooney to do the business and if they play well we might just nick the game from the 'Pool. A draw would not be a bad result today.

I thought this may happen, would be great for USA and would be great for Rossi himself to go to the World Cup at such a young age. I don't know if waiting for Italy would be the best decision, considering the abundance of strikers that Italy have now and are coming through.
Guillermo

Manchester United's Alan Smith fails to make the game with an ankle problem, Paul scholes is also missing and Cristiano Ronaldo is suspended, so Darren Fletcher, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson feature in an inexperienced midfield.
Oh God, we're done for. 2-0 Liverpool I say.
Haven't watched United play in a long time. But the midfield today is weakest midfield I have ever seen them have. Giggs centre midfield?¿?
The midfield is surviving but that is all. Liverpool are running the midfield battle and aren't doing too badly going forward neither. United haven't impressed but Ruud had a good chance at the end of the half. Evra has played alright but he has whipped in a few shit crosses and a lot of posession given away by O'Shea.

Now Saha is on. God help us.
Go on United! Rio with a banging header in the 90th minute. Legend. Can't say we fully deserved it but we did play better attacking football in the 2nd half. That is me happy for the night.
Me too! We beat the hubcap thieves! Just at the right time too, they looked as if they are about to peak at their best!
Me too! We beat the hubcap thieves! Just at the right time too, they looked as if they are about to peak at their best!
Fletcher played well, never gave up. There are too many people undersestimate the lad, he really steps his level up in big games. I mean he won the game against Chelsea for us with a sweet looping header. He stayed strong and challenged for everything around him, whether on the floor or aerial.
The reason the game was so difficult for us today, was due to Liverpool's stunningly in-form Defence. They are a unit, and they know what the other will do before hand which gives them the advantage above everyone. We just could penetrate them with that vital through ball linking from the Midfield to the front 2 of Ruud and Rooney. Therefore having to resort to long balls from the back 4 which isn't really useful against Liverpool. Other teams sometimes struggle against it with Ruud up top and his aerial ability as well as his touch but today Hyypia just laughed the big kicks away with powerful headers and strength.
Having Evra playing LB/WB is a great outlet for attacking down the side but with this comes weaknesses. By sprinting forward, he is leaving the gap behind him open. Fletcher covered in there now and again today as well as O'Shea from time to time but this can't keep happening. Evra very nearly got injured too which would have been nothing short of disastrous for the club, Gerrard's tackle was very rough but fair. Catching Evra's left knee in between his own two legs trapping it and forcing it to bend unwillingly. I still feel he could have minorly injured it, maybe ligament damage because sometimes it can go nearly unnoticed and a tackle like that can certainly cause similar damage.
Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown, wow. Rightly so that Wes gets his place back this week, and he did not dissapoint. He threw himself at a few shots which is a main duty of a Defender, he is no nonsense what so ever and I love it. He truly dedicates himself to the club and I feel he is deserved a place over Campbell in the upcoming World Cup 2006. Rio has overcome everything now and has gained my respect, the lengthy ban, the stalled contract leaving to a bad crowd reception but now he is on top of his game. Surely securing a place alongside Terry in an England starting 11.
1-0. Oh yes.
He appears to have overcome his lazyness and if he keeps at it he will be a force to be reckoned with in England's defence!

Also, great defensive performance by Brown an Rio today and they have bothe staked a good claim for an England place methinks
Still finding it hard to believe we won today. Thank God Giggs chose to cross the ball and not pass it to someone on the edge of the box as he is prone to doing. Ahh just reliving the goal.

Although that may sound like a bunch of tripe it may be true
Beckham is a cockney and his Grandad supported them and he looks up to Glenn Hoddle (spurs legend) and he was part of the tottenham football school.
And now since he opened a new Footballing academy in london it would be a good idea for him to move back to england and london.

Great result.
Gary Neville since becoming captain has hardly uttered a word. In the past you never stopped him wittering on about this or that, but now, he's almost anonymous. So to see him show the passion we knew he had was almost as satisfying as the Rio goal itself.
The game deserved a goal, by United, because we were the only team who looked to win it. The Liverpool circus freak show bored the arse off us for much of the game, but the fact was that never mind 4-4-2, Fergie employed 4-3-3 in an effort to get the three points. Mike Riley, unlike the plum who referreed the derby last week ensured the opposition remained with eleven on the pitch, despite in this case the laws of the game opposing his view, and so ultimately the Liverpool moaning couldn't have any excuse for conceding a goal, from a set piece, in the last minute of a game they'd killed.
It was only three points. It was only for the race for second place. But it was against the country's most overhyped club, with their overrated team, and the vilest support in world football. Happy days...

That would only matter if United were actually 'hyped up' to win anything this season. It's a foregone conclusion that the we can't win the Premiership or Europe, so as far as being overhyped, that would only be true if we finished outside of the top 3.
Feel free to remember Rooney cost 3x as much as Henry, yet he's nowhere near the player Thierry is.

Fact is that Rooney has been far and away our best player since he made his debut for us, and is simply the best young player we have EVER had at Old Trafford. You'd have to be a moron to suggest that Henry was a better player than Rooney at his age.

Another shit season in my opinion.
Was our ambition to win the league? Not really. We finished more than 10 points behind Chewsea last season, and our only notable signings were a past-it goalkeeper and a winger signed primarily for commercial reasons. So no, I think most United fans realised winning the league was out of the question before a ball was kicked this season.
As for a 'shit season'? ten points for observation. This season has, on the whole, been very disappointing, but judging from your sig you're in no position to talk about a disappointing two years. Nor are you in any position to talk about United being overhyped, as testiment you only need to look at how the 'Invincibles' hung on for dear life to protect a point at Highbury against us earlier this month.
For someone who cost nearly twice as much as Reyes, yet scored only a single goal more last season than him, I'd consider him overhyped.
Get a grip lad. Is Reyes 20? Is he the payer his national side relies upon? For fucks sake... he's not even the most important player in a poor Arsenal side. Yes he's a talented young player, but he's nowhere near the player Rooney is and he's a good 3 years older too. If yer want to talk about goalscoring records then you can discount every single player currently playing football today except for maybe Ronaldo, because at Rooney's age, their record pales in comparison.
Feel free to remember Rooney cost 3x as much as Henry, yet he's nowhere near the player Thierry is. :)

AHAHAHAHAHA. We hung on? Sorry, which team refused to come out and play, unless it was on the counter? Yes United.
That says more about the quality of our national team if we rely on a 19 year old, surely?
If we're such a poor side, why are we still in Europe? How did we beat you in the FA Cup and why we you lot scared to play football against us?
Rooney's done nothing and won nothing.

I don't remember a 4-5-1 formation automatically meaning a defensive attitude.
I will agree we were defensive, the main reason being we were missing our main goal threat.
AHAHAHAHAHA. We hung on? Sorry, which team refused to come out and play, unless it was on the counter? Yes United.
You're having a fuckin' laugh. First half we didn't show up, but in the second half we dominated the game and yer never even looked like scoring. Don't get me wrong we didn't play that well, but the game and the result proved that Arsenal have fallen lower than we have. And the fuck are you talking about counter attacking... you played five in the middle and one up front.
That says more about the quality of our national team if we rely on a 19 year old, surely?
No, it says more about the talents of Wayne Rooney. Ingerlund haven't witnessed anybody with this sort of ability or potential for many years.
Quality of the national side? Ingerlund are one of the bookies favourites to win the World Cup this summer, and even I would admit they are one of around five countries who realistically have a chance. There definitely hasn't been an Ingerlund squad much stronger than this in my lifetime.
If we're such a poor side, why are we still in Europe? How did we beat you in the FA Cup and why we you lot scared to play football against us?
Before I even begin to answer than nonsense, tell me this- do you think that Arsenal can compete for the championship?
From your posts I get the impression that you're arguing purely for the sake of it. If yer really think that the Arsenal side hasn't fallen in quality from their side three years ago, or that Rooney isn't as good as Reyes, or that Arsenal were the better side in the FA Cup Final, or anything else for that matter, then fine. That's your opinion, and I care too little about you, or Arsenal to argue against that.
Oh... and don't believe the hype. United fans don't hate Arsenal, and we don't have any bitter rivalry anymore. I used to hate Arsenal, but only the same way as I hated Blackburn in '94 or Newcastle in '96 or whenever it was.
That's not directed at this Stella Artois lad in particular, just generally Arse fans who seem to have an unhealthy obsession with United.

Scholes is out for the rest of the season.
I don't remember a 4-5-1 formation automatically meaning a defensive attitude.
That's because you're an idiot. Any team that plays 4-5-1 aims to play defensive, hence the 5 midfielders. You can't really comment on United this season as you are lying in 5th and have beaten 7 times this season. Your team tends to disappear without Henry and you have to play your first team to stay in the Carling Cup.
O'Shea's out for about a month too with broken ribs.

Looks like they might give my therory a go.
Providing Smith does not recover from an ankle injury, Ferguson has only three plausible selection possibilities; play Louis Saha in attack and drop Wayne Rooney back, hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a starting berth despite his clear lack of match fitness, or hand £7million defender Nemanja Vidic his debut and press Rio Ferdinand into midfield.
The former option appears the most likely, but the latter cannot be entirely ruled out given Ferdinand ended up alongside Giggs in the United midfield during the latter stages of their recent FA Cup replay win over Burton.
Also heres another quote, but its from the Fergmisier himself.
'Pedersen seems to be making his reputation against us,' admitted Ferguson, who revealed he had the 24-year-old watched a couple of seasons ago.
'We saw him play and had some good reports on him. We just didn't think he was what we wanted at the time because we had just signed Cristiano Ronaldo, we already had Ryan Giggs and Kieran Richardson was coming through as well.
'It happens. A lot of times you see players who take your eye but you are maybe overloaded in that particular position. You don't do anything about it.'
They should still buy him, what u reckon. What do u think hed cost?

For someone who pretends to know a lot about football, you're quite naive. Being a bookie's favourite means absolutely fuck all. Don't believe me? Then take a look at the Euro 2004 odds and I'll assure you Greece weren't among the favourites.

Name an Inerlund side who stood a better chance of winning the World Cup than this current side. I hate moronic Ingerlund fans more than most on this board, but the current team has at least two worldclass players in Gerrard and Rooney and many very good players too.
Don't believe me? Then take a look at the Euro 2004 odds and I'll assure you Greece weren't among the favourites.
That's conclusive then. France weren't amongst the favourites of '98, Brazil weren't in 2002 or '94, Chelsea weren't favourites to win the league this season... Oh fook.

I still stand by my opinion that the Italia '90 side was a better team than this one, but due to the performances leading up to it were not deemed a favourite compared to Brazil, Italy, Jormany, Argetina etc... but as a team we're outstanding and the manager wasn't half bad either

Doesn't matter how good our side is, because there are other national sides who are better.

Being among the favourites doesn't mean you have a better chance of winning the competition, it just means people percieve you to have a better chance. Upsets happen all the time.
It is said everytime about England. "We have a chance to win this one", many times I have sniggered at such comments but this time we definetely have a chance. It is the best England team I've seen (born 1990) and with a lot of the players 'in-form' makes it twice as good. Brown is having a superb season and Rio too. So England's CB's are nothing short of great as there is Terry, Rio, Brown, Carragher, Campbell. Carragher can be pushed to the right if Neville picks up a knock etc. However Campbell isn't in great form he may not even be needed.
Rooney is incredible for club and country and if something disastrous happens i.e. an injury then I truly believe we will struggle greatly. He is a tremendous outlet for creative attacking and he will run his arse off for the shirt hes wearing.
Our Goalkeeper and Defence is quite and obvious one in my opinion, maybe Brown will take a position if theres an injury.
-------------------------Robinson--------------------------
---Neville---------Ferdinand-----Terry------------A.Cole----
Though our Midfield is harder for me to think about, I get stuck between what I want it to be and what it will be sometimes. I would like to see Parker wearing an England shirt but I doubt that will happen this World Cup. It appears Ledley King could probably take charge in DMF. This is what I could possibly see it being.
---------------------Gerrard--------------------------------
----Beckham-----------------------Lampard---------J.Cole---
Up front, Rooney is definetely an obvious choice unless he is placed in OMF.
----------------------------------Rooney-------------------
------------------Owen-------------------------------------
Quite a strong team looking at it on paper, but this whole debate about Lampard and Gerrard playing together could be crucial I think. Sven will really have to show some balls and drop one or the other if there is any slacking.
Does anyone know what our Midfield will be tonight in the Cup game ? I honestly haven't a clue. People out are; Smith (I think), Park, Scholes, Ronaldo, O'Shea. Quite a good list of names there.
Doesn't matter how good our side is, because there are other national sides who are better.

Upsets only occasionally happen, which is why they are upsets. Greece was the exception, not the rule. Generally one of the favourites, though maybe not the favourite, wins. Which is why they are called favourites. Geddit?

I have seen Vogel at PSV for a number of years and he is usefull next to a player who is more creative and physical. But don't expect him to be the solution to the midfield "problem" at united, without Van Bommel next to him you could see he could not cope with level the champions league requires.

We maybe didn't qualify for 06, that doesn't mean we are shit now, and maybe we were never good, but we were definitely having that fighting spirit, no matter the tactic. We know that we are averaging a goal a game, it's why we are improving our attackers and brining on those promising youngsters.
