speakin as an arsenal fan, ideally i dont want this 2 happen but i think his almost yours. newcastle can hardly offer the same as u, and once rooney wants 2 leave, not moyes or ne1 else can stop him. i think it will end up bein around £24m plus a player (possibly kleberson or bellion).
I think you should :D Arsenal is much stronger than Man utd at the moment, hopefully Rooney's arrival will close the gap and we'll have an exciting premiership battle on our hands once more

I watched the game. I thought Everton defended extremely well and fully deserved to get a point. They should have had a penalty when Silvestre deliberately handballed the ball. How on earth did the referee not see that? Man Utd did hit the post on 3 occasions, but they simply weren't good enough to find a way through.

Wayne Rooney's transfer saga could finally be concluded on Monday with Manchester United closing in on the teenager.
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright will meet with United chief executive David Gill before the Premiership encounter between the sides at Old Trafford.
United tabled an improved bid of £25m on Saturday and both clubs remain in negotiation, with Everton holding out for an offer nearer their £30m valuation for the striker.
They are however now willing to take a player as part of any deal. They have asked about Brazilian World Cup winner Kleberson, but the midfielder is reluctant to leave Old Trafford.
Newcastle now look to be out of the race to sign Rooney after manager Sir Bobby Robson was "relieved of his duties" at St James' Park.
i cant wait until this whole rooney saga is over at least it will let man utd concentrate back on the pitch and win back that premiership!!

Manchester United have announced the transfer of Wayne Rooney from Everton.
The 18-year-old English forward passed the medical tests this morning and signed for the Red Devils for a fee of around 37 million Euros.
The exact details of this operation will be revealed later on this afternoon
http://www.goal.com/NewsDetail.aspx?idNews=19326
______________
37 million Euros?? too expensive
Not really.
United are well known for buying players at extremely high prices.
Saha, Smith, Ferdinand, Forland, C. Ronaldo, Veron. The list goes on. More proof that Ferguson couldnt conduct business at his local sweet shop, let alone a football club.
skullverine
31-08-2004, 15:48
well, the bad thing is that CR is not the most expensive teenager anymore :(
btw, with most of our first team player are back in mid-september.. who will be in the first eleven? i think its gonna be somthing like this
...............howard......... .......
gary....ferdinand..silvest/brown....heinze/o'shea
CR.....keane....scholes...gigg s
....rvn/smith.....saha/rooney
Reyes was more expensive than C.Ronaldo.
So he was the most expensive for a couple of months. But that ended when Arsenal bought Reyes for £22m+
Howard
G.Neville Ferdinand Heinze Silvestre
Scholes
C.Ronaldo Smith Giggs
van Nistelrooy Saha
Carroll
Brown
O'Shea
Keane
Kleberson
Miller
Rooney
Good to see they are all returning, especially Heinze, bringing back an Olympic gold medal and Copa America runner up medal :D
Then Manchester United can really show people their best :)

By the way if Heinze is a specialised leftback then great, since Silvestre would rather play at CB and O'Shea can play anywhere in defence or midfield.

how ironic it was arsenal really who started off rooneys carrer ;)
Just think of the firepower United will have when Ruud's fit again!
Did you see the signing happen on MUTV? It was so funny, it happened during Crerand and Bower in extra time - you know their studio overlooks Old Trafford's pitch well the cameras were waiting for Rooney to emerge by his car, what happened was something like this ;
Steve Bower: And the moment anything happens, we'll let you know
Paddy Crerand (who is glancing down out the window) : Oh, I thought that was Wayne Rooney then (Laughs) ....
Crerand: It is Wayne Rooney!
And the camera then shows the two of them gazing out of the window, as MUTV desperately try to get a camera down pitchside!
You can probably see it tomorrow, MUTV is repeated till 5:00
You know, I've been waiting for a huge signing like this since Ronaldinho's deal collapsed (I know we got Ronaldo, but he wasn't a superstar like Rooney at the time, though those who saw him knew he soon would be!)
Mike.

lol i actually saw that it was funny
rooney and ruud amazing combinations wen do u fink rooney will start?? but u cant drop smith on his goal streak
Well I think Ruud will be doubtfull till after the Liverpool game so I think Smith will continue - he gives us some fight - and holds the ball up front too, a quality we've been lacking. Rooney has resumed training (and he passed a medical) so I don't think his United bow will be too long in coming. Rooney is also a physical player, so again that will give United strong presence up front. And the supply line of Ronaldo and Giggs from the flanks, with Scholes floating between the frontline and midfield - marshalled by Keano. I think that when everyone is fit, and Rio is still to come back - United will take some stopping :) I'm like a kid at Christmas - I can't wait to see United firing on all four cylinders again! And maybe we may even see Gabriel Heinze at some stage too :p
And also look at the average age of the side now, this is the basis for United for the next decade (Rooney, Ronaldo, Smith, Fletcher, Miller, Ferdinand possibly)
Mike.
so again that will give United strong presence up front. And the supply line of Ronaldo and Giggs from the flanks, with he needs to sort out a final ball first
damn the way you say it makes football seem so easy but ur right man utd will have to have there best players around if gonna have any chance to win premierhsip, ure not the only 1 who wants to see man utd fire on all cylinders! its abt time man utd showed the arsenals and chelseas of this world who boss around here.Heinze? i forgot what he looks like...theres going to be some tackles flying around when rooney and smith on same pitch!!

And of course there's Mr. Keane as well :) I've thought for a while United had become a bit lightweight as far as physicality goes, and also recently I'd noticed the drive and desire wasn't as present as it used to be (especially when Roy is missing) Now with Smith, at least there is someone fighting for every ball, and Rooney will do the same. Ronaldo's quality of delivery is improving all the time as well - though I do think he's more of a "Ryan Giggs" than a "David Beckham" type.
Mike.

RVN rip defences to bits, you must be having a laff mate. The guy cant shoot if he is more than 6 foot from the goal.
Rooney on the other hand, can.
Quite true van Nistelrooy is not experienced in shooting from anywhere else except in front of goal.
Long-range, aute-angled, turn-and-shoot goals are all seldom scored by him.

i dont know.. if he starts in the 1st eleven for his debut, i bet he'll score a goal and make an assist
RVN will always be the first choice striker
Saha,Smith and Rooney will battle for the another position
they must accept the squad rotation
smith has accepted it
not sure about the other two(or three) strikers
Actually van Nistelrooy should also accept squad rotation, why is he always first choice?
Anyway choices would be made much easier if one is injured.
They've sold Forlan and that's a good move cos he's not gonna get more than 10 games a season anymore.
Next season's selection would be worse with Solskjaer's return from injury.

Actually, if RVN doesn´t get back to the form he had the first season, then i´l actually vote for a scoring Smith alongside Rooney. Because now we have a quite impressive line of strikers. Even Saha did a good sub against Blackburn..
My idea is Smith alongside Saha because both are opposite footed and compliment each other greatly.
Otherwise RvN and Saha, and Smith playing a withdrawn role like Scholes.

01-09-2004, 08:43
well, the thing about Ruud is, he's always dangerous, he can appear to be having no influence on a game, but once the ball gets in the box, BAM there's a goal, can you really afford to not have him on the pitch when he's healthy?
I think the more active style strikers like Smith, Saha, and Rooney should just be rotated, because they can suffer from fatigue more noticably, I'd rather have Smith with Ruud, he has great energy and thus wins a lot of balls in dangerous positions, once he gets his chemistry with Ruud down he'll be able to feed Ruud very quickly after winning a ball around the box
skullverine
01-09-2004, 08:47
he's always dangerous but not in last season.. he was awful in the 2nd half of last season

i that smith will end up in more of a scholesy role within a couple of years.. if not by the end of this year.. he seems be able to set them up as well as score them... and rooney and RVN, upfront.. that is a pretty damn good combo...
You would have to be pissed if you were Saha.. signed in january like you were their new messiah.. and then all of a sudden 8 months later.. you are 4th choice striker, in most people's from what i have interpreted from the media, in Sir Alex's prefered strike choice...

Manchester United new boy Wayne Rooney has insisted he does not need the advice of his new team-mates on how to behave.
Rooney signed a £27million deal with the Old Trafford outfit yesterday to become Britain's costliest teenage footballer.
The 18-year-old knows his move will only serve to intensify the media spotlight on him but, despite recent unsavoury revelations about his private life, he is confident he will cope.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already informed the England striker he must relocate from Merseyside even though the teenager currently lives only 30 miles from the Red Devils' Carrington training ground.
And the fiery Scot will also remind Rooney of the high standards he expects of his players.
Ferguson pointed to the examples of Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers as those to follow, although Rooney is adamant he does not need a lecture about the standards expected of him.
'As a professional I know myself,' he said. 'No-one has to tell me how to behave on or off the pitch. I know myself, so there is not much more they can tell me.
'I know the spotlight is going to be on me a bit more because I have signed for the biggest club in the world.
'That will bring more pressure but I am big enough and strong enough to handle it.'
Rooney did however admit he may speak to Keane and Giggs about the pressures of becoming a United player.
After a relatively poor start to the campaign, which has seen them pick up only five points from their opening four matches, United are looking to Rooney to lift them from their current mid-table position, even though it might be the end of the month before he is fit enough to make his debut after picking up a foot injury on Euro 2004 duty with England this summer.
While the United fans have been largely joyous in their celebration of Rooney's arrival, the news has gone down less well on the blue half of Merseyside.
Already, the acrimony which accompanied Alan Smith's close-season departure from Leeds to Old Trafford has surfaced and Everton fans are fuming that a player they regarded as a hero and who has continually professed his long-time support for the club could leave them after just two years as a professional.
'It is tough for the Everton fans because they have seen me come through and regard me as one of their own,' said Rooney.
'But I wanted to move on for myself and my career.
'There are a lot of things that happened behind the scenes that no-one really knows about and that made it more difficult. I don't want to go over them now and I don't think it was a case of Everton not wanting me to play for them.
'I knew six weeks ago that I wanted to leave but the only way that would happen was if I put in a transfer request, so that is what I did.'
It was during his summer expedition in Portugal that Rooney was hardened to the prospect of leaving Goodison Park.
Already frustrated by dressing-room chatter over the next Champions League campaign, Rooney felt his outstanding performances in Sven-Goran Eriksson's side ended any lingering doubts over his ability to compete with the very best.
'After Euro 2004 I knew I could play with the top players and in the big tournaments,' he said.
'The Champions League is the biggest club tournament in the world and it was frustrating not being able to play in it.
'I still regard Everton as a massive club, I've played for them for two years and have supported them all my life. If Everton had been in the Champions League it would have been a different matter.
'But I wanted to further my career. It was time to move on and Manchester United is the right choice.'

I think the lad will achieve great things for Man Utd over the coming seasons. Top goal scorer in next seasons Premiership a real possibility.
Only if Henry moved outside England.
Definitely true.
If Henry doesn't assist his teammates too much he'll well be a 45-goal-a-season striker already.

It's pointless saying stuff like Rooney will be the new Cantona and Rooney will be the top goalscorer next season, he is still VERY young. The best thing about this deal is we will have him for 6 years, in six years maybe he will have achieved those things but if he doesn't become top goalscorer next season I won't be fussed as long as he keeps improving and fufills his potential.

I think Saha is better then Smith and should be third choice after Nistelroy and Rooney!
You have to realise that Fergie has already said that he wont be rushing Rooney. And Rooney has to understand that he will have to wait. And that he is a player for the next 6 years, not tomorrow.
So saying he will be top scorer next season is rather stupid. He wont play as many games as they others would.

rooney wiill score more goals than smith when he starts playing

I´m actually quite impressed by Smith´s playing this season. He´s the kind of player that give 130 % in every duel, and he wins most of them. I´m really looking forward to seeing him omn top with RVN. He´s got 4 goals in 6 matches so far. And i bet that with a more capable striker like RVN at his side there will be many more.
PS: Norway will kick Italys ass on Saturday ;)... Hehe... Lets hope those diving Italians are having a bad day at work(as they have had lately).

I think Saha is better then Smith and should be third choice after Nistelroy and Rooney!
Smith has scored 5 goals in 6 games.. anyway you lookat that you cannot turn your back on that..
And fergie has said that if newcastle did not bid on Rooney he would not have.. so it sounds to me that eventually Smith will slid back into midfield and Rooney partner Ruud, or he is not there.. someone partner him as the number 1 striker.. This is because of Smith's ability to hassle in midfield, should give united some quality counter-attack possession..
And.. Saha has failed in impressing me.. he came to united as almost godlike.. and has been pretty average... for £12milionish... and smith on the other hand has played like United paid £20mill for him.. like he has a debt to them.. he plays with such passion and intensity.. and i love players who play like that because i feel that ideally every single person who plays sport should play like that.. if you don't go out there and play your hardest you should not be there.. for me, smith is worth 3 times his price tag.. and i would rather pay £24mill for Him than "Did a shit Drogba"
I think that Smith will be our Top Scorer this year as Saha, Ruud, Rooney haven't even Scored, or in Ruud's and Rooney's case, havn't even played this season for United!!get a reality check if u think anyone of them will come close to Ruud

I agree. Though doesn't the idea of Saha, RVN, Rooney and Smith all battling for positions up front, and upping their games to do so make anyone think that this is definitley our year for the title or the Champs League? The league situatiom isn't as bad as everyone thinks, it's only 1 loss and Arsenal are bound to draw hella loads like they did last year.
But now Arsenal and Chelsea are in the best shape Manchester Utd till look a little fragile.
By the way catching up Arsenal by 7 pts, I think MU will have to wait till December or somthing. Right now Arsenal's goals are coming in like free, they will seldom draw, not to say lose. Plus MU will drop pts also.
BTW hope Ferguson doesn't say something like "We'll improve in the second half of the season." Didn't work out last time.

RVN started the season late which i think would affects his scoring and also he also needs time to recover from the operation. Smith is going to have a position fight with Rooney, RVN and Saha.

You may have only lost once but Arsenal and Chelsea are 7 points ahead, that's quite a big gap after just 4 games.

Yes but as you said "just 4 games" as the season runs on, Chelsea are bound to slip up, they aren't looking very exciting at all. Arsenal are scoring like there is no tomorrow, but as the mid-way point draws near, I reckon the gap will tighten. It would be stupid not to expect United to draw games at any point in the season, or course they are going to draw, everyone draws, even the "mighty" Arsenal draw. Once United get their defence back, get RVN back, get Keane back and start Giggs  I can't see them still being 7 points behind.

Will Heinze make United better by a significant amount?
I've never seen him play except for Argentina.
Tighten up the defense and give John O'Shea a needed break, so I say yes.
Where so you think is Jonh O'Shea's best position?

yeah hopefully he scores against the scoucers also i think ferdinand will be back so we will have the strongest that we have not had for ages. o'shea best position was left back but he aint gud enough there so probably centre back
He's not bad at centre-back, tall.
Against Liverpool probably Man Utd might use the first 10 minutes getting together, I'm sure there'll be new guys Ferdinand, Heinze, Rooney, maybe van Nistelrooy so they'll need some mixing before staring the game real.
Would be amazing for Rooney to score against Liverpool, especially if it's 2 or above :D

Left Back. He just seems tired or lacking in something right now, he needs to get his game together and should fight for his place against Heinze.

did he feel his injury?
He didn't look injured.
Was he having an injury?
Yes, Manchester United were extremely concerned as Ronaldo had been complaining of a groin strain since the Olympic games - United felt the situation had worsened in the Everton game which is why Ronaldo came off before the end. Carlos Quieroz actually met Portugal's representitives in order to request on United's behalf that Ronaldo not be used in the upcoming qualifiers (though obviously that was ignored) the feeling from Sir Alex is that Ronaldo is okay at the moment but further play (instead of a week or two rest) will aggravate the strain into a tear requiring surgery - putting Ronaldo on the shelf for 6-8 weeks  I expect Sir Alex to reluctantly rest Ronaldo for at least the Bolton game on the 11th. I imagine he will be required against Liverpool, unless Rooney is drafted in at Right midfield (a position he sometimes occupied for Everton) though It'd be unlikely that Sir Alex would risk not having Ronaldo on the wing for the visit of the arch enemies!
Mike.
The problem of using club players for international games without the consent of the club manager must be solved. Aggravating his injury would be serious.
Although if you ask Ronaldo, he's sure to choose to play for Portugal.
He chose representing Portugal in the Olympics over playing for Manchester United who already had so many players unavailable. The complete opposite from Tiago, who wanted to play for his club.
Good news from MUTV: Roy Keane has recovered full fitness and barring any further injury with Ireland this week, will be fit for the Bolton match! John O'Shea however, has suffered a slight thigh muscle tear and will miss the Ireland game - there is no timescale regarding his return for United as yet.
Ronaldo was said to be in excellent health for Portugal, so maybe our and United's fears are ungrounded (touch wood).
Mike.
More good news, Droghba got injured during the internationals and could possibly miss the next game and Wenger is considering giving some young gunners a chance, that should be a larf.

Firstly, that is not our 1st team as Edu,Vieira and Gilberto do not all start in Arsenals strongest midfield,we have Ljungberg on the right wing not Gilberto Silva! and Ljungberg hasnt even been included in our squad in that list! b4 u took all that effort with that post u shud have studied in a bit more detial wot i was replyin 2, it was a post slagging off our youngsters, by saying wenger is considering playing some of his young gunners, that should be a larf,(altho we already r  !) and considering the recent success of our youngsters i felt the need 2 correct this as the only laugh would be 4 Arsenal as the youngsters coming in 2 the team at the moment just settle straight in like theyve been their 4 years! i was not being arrogant in the slighest,i was just replying with sarcasm 2 a ridiculous remark made. i know we will lose, no team is invincible, and ive never stated no1 can beat us, so that also was a pointless statement.
as far as ur remark about last year, yes we had 2 draws, the 1 at OT was a fair result and the 1 at Highbury Man u got lucky managing 2 take a point, the game in the FA Cup however meant a gr8 deal more 2 Man U as it was the only trophy u cud win whereas Arsenal were gunning 4 the title and trying 2 stay undefeated, AND we had a massive CL match a few days l8a against chelsea, so we rested key players like Thierry Henry. u got the win,so fair play 2 u, but u needed that win, u needed it far more than us!
as far as the squads r concerned Arsenal have also been without key players this season, in particular Patrick Vieira,Edu and Sol Campbell but they have hardly been missed which shows how impressive our squad is, and if man u fans can take their red tinted glasses off they would admit Arsenals squad is superior, but i hardly can c that happenin!
we will c on oct 24th who wins, but id like 2 think of Arsenal as consistently brilliant not just good in one-off matches.
nah we dnt like, its the mackems for me.... oooo no they aint in the prem!

Jeez, what youngsters!?! Is what I'm trying to say! All 2 of them, Fabergas and van Purse? Holy shit, thats a young army of players! Point is, Wenger could never field a squad of youngsters, he'll want to grip on to Henry, Pires, Viera etc for as long as he can. At least Fergie gives more than 2 or 3 youngsters a chance each game.
Plus, does anyone else think it's weird that the masses of new Arsenal fans cropping up in England don't realise that Arsenal have a maximum of 2 English players in the first team! In fact they don't even have any more from the British Isles!

no, i wouldnt even count van Persie as he hasnt played in the Prem at all yet, i mean more like Justin Hoyte,Gael Clichy,Francesc Fabregas and Jose Antonio Reyes, which adds up 2 4 if my maths r still up 2 scratch. Of course Wenger will want 2 keep playin Vieira, Henry,Pires,Campbell etc 2 get every last bit of potential out of them, but wot manager doesnt do that? i dont c Ferguson going o well Giggs,Scholes,Keane,G.Neville, P.Neville etc have been around a lot lets play our youngsters this season instead. wot 2 or 3 youngsters does Fergie give a chance each game? he might bring on the likes of Eagles,Spector and Richardson while their r holes in your squad through injuries but that wont b the case once the likes of Ferdinand and Van Nistelrooy r bk im sure, and thats just the case 4 us if not more so with the chances Clichy,Hoyte,Fabregas.Pennant and Aliadiere r being given. the fact is i was replying 2 a remark which said it should b a laugh seeing Wenger give his youngsters a chance, and the only team that could possibly b laugihng at the moment is Arsenal, as we have been givin these youngsters games and we r still not losin, and if ManUre fans can try and c wot im sayin b4 arrogance is mentioned as i am not being arrogant at all, just pointing out facts! we might not b the greatest team in the world, we will lose a game soon enough and we know we arent invincible but 2 state givin our youngsters a chance would b a laugh is naive as we already have been doing, with great success so far. wot wenger probably meant was he is ready 4 another high quality group of youngsters 2 b readied 4 the big time, such as Senderos,Van Persie,Bentley,Birchall,Lupoli and Frankie Simek.
Man, I'm not saying you are arrogant, calm down. Let's see, 2 or 3 United youngsters: Ronaldo, Fletcher, Miller. Rooney should start a few, possibly. Arsehole hardly start their youngsters, maybe one of the few you listed have 1 game under their belt, wow, that really made them win. yeh i no u werent calling me arrogant, i wasnt aiming everything at u there.I d say Fabregas,Clichy and Reyes have made quite an impact so far and i dont disagree on the issue we have only 2 or 3 english players in the team most weeks but Wenger is trying to change that by givin DB jnr a chance 2 show his quality at Norwich this year and givin Hoyte and Pennant some games, and when Taylor finally returns to full fitness after being injured he will get another chance i think. Personally tho i couldnt care less whether our team has English,French,Irish,Brazilian ,Swedish or Papau New Guinea players aslong as they r exciting to watch and keep on winning. Of course in an ideal world Arsenal could have 11 fantastic English players in their team week in week out and still be winning, but with the state of English football at the moment its not possible. The England players that r good enough 2 get in this team;Gerrard,Terry and Rooney would be extremely expensive and r not very necessary 4 Arsenal anyway. Instead Wenger is trying to give some young English youngsters a chance to break through, in particular Pennant,Hoyte and Bentley, but its very hard when we already have players like Ljungberg,Lauren and Bergkamp already in their position.
Finally Gabriel Heinze arrived at Manchester United's training ground on Tuesday - three months after he signed for the Reds from Paris Saint Germain.

Heinze has picked up almost £500,000 in wages from Man Utd and he's just joined up with them today.
Reyes, I apologise for taking your initial comment as arrogant, after I re-read your following posts and actually understood the point you were making (and BTW it was a friendly rib anyway - hence the smiley) :D
Both sides have good youngsters coming through - I don't see David Bentley returning to Arsenal longterm though, I think they may do what United did with Jonathan Greening and Mark Wilson and sell him after his loan period.
United are blessed with a great first team squad, and an excellent crop of youngsters (including first team stars Rooney 18, Ronaldo 19, Miller 22, Smith 24, Fletcher 22, Bellion 21, Saha 25, Brown 26, Ferdinand 26, Howard 24 (I think) )
In addition we have the likes of Spector, Eagles, Mark Howard, Kieran Richardson, David Jones, Eddie Johnson, Floribert N'Galula, Guiseppe Rossi and Gerard Pique as well (all under 19)
Floribert N'galula is a possible candidate as the next Roy Keane type player (Though physically he resembles Patrick Vieira as his size and movement)

What really annoys me is that United can batter teams for the majority of a match even taking the lead - but they can't finish em off like they are capable of doing. The defence for Bolton's second was an absolute joke! And why do all of Ronaldo's shots hit the damn crossbar - talk about unlucky! I really hope United get their act together for the Champions League - as at the rate they're going in the Premiership, they can kiss the title goodbye.
Maybe Fergie will put Roy Carroll in goal for the next one, Tim just seems to be unable to command the box at the moment. Mickael Silvestre seems also to be in another world sometimes too.

Yeah, Silvestre, Brown and O'shea have alll suddonly turned out to be the shitest defenders in the world. I say get Rio back, put Heinze in and get in another good CB.
I don't think Fergie needs any more CBs, they've already got a few at several positions:
Left-back: Heinze, O'Shea, Silvestre, P.Neville, Fortune
Centre-back: O'Shea, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Brown, Keane
Right-back: G.Neville, O'Shea, Brown, P.Neville
Really I don't think there is a need for another, although if Fergie's gonna get one I would recommend an established centre-back, all those youngsters he's been using recently haven't been working out well.

I knew that Henize was going to score yesterday, I said on Friday that he would SCORE!!!
People are saying that if United had all there FIRST team players in, we would have been top, well, Yesterday, It was only Ferdinand who wasn't in,everyone else were first team players!!!!
Quite true but they didn't have first choice substitutes like Brown, Saha...
Ferdinand coming back must be good news, I'm sure he'd have improved his game drastically, and show his worth.
If he's fit he's sure to be in the starting 11.

Not sure but in his first year he was only used as a sub once so maybe it wouldn't happen this time.
BTW what's taking Rio so long to score, co'mon it's already one and a half seasons.
Look at Heinze man, goal on his debut :D

God damn. I´m gettin´ tired of these results. Didn´t see the game, but it seems that
were not even going to reach top three this season. It´s fuckd that I´m saying this, but I´m forced to be realistic. The tides must turn, or else this season is going to be miserable
That's for sure if Manchester United become a mid-table team after this season it would then be very difficult to catch up back on.
Liverpool are making steady progress but Manchester United must improve to avoid meeting the same fate Liverpool had in recent seasons.
Right now Arsenal and Chelsea are still on fire and there are improving teams like Tottenham, Bolton, Liverpool and Middlesborough so United better get their act together or suffer getting thrown outta Europe, which is untakeable for a t eam of their standards.

Really hope not.
Ferguson has put in a lot of sweat and blood to build the Manchester United squad which is existing today, 15 years of work, wouldn't just go down the drain because of 6 poorly-played games?

The primary reason Liverpool entered their decline was that their entire team grew old together (i.e no younger players integrated) Sir Alex Ferguson is already building for the next ten or so years, maybe we're losing ground in the short-term, but I believe we'll bounce back in the future.

you all have to remember that at the moment united are building for the future.. this yea rmay not be successful.. but next year.. with the likes of ronaldo, rooney, heinze and others all being able to establish themselves.. and improve more.. they will be a force yet again.. give them a couple of years to blood the young players...
I don't reckon it would take that long.
Liverpool are also building for the future, so are these two out of the title race already?

Its currently 2-0 to Lyon :( The sides convidence must be so low at the moment. They need something to shake em up. Wayne Rooney might do the trick. He'll have to.
Sooooooooooooo lucky you have RVN....so lucky.
I remember the day he transferred to you from PSV, me and my mate were like:

Finally someone that sees other qualities in a Striker than just having pace. He is not lightning fast, but he still manages to hammer in goals. Allways at the right place at the right time.
I can see him coming back to form in the Champions League with 2 comeback goals (from 2-0 down and from injury)
And surely a man who has scored 12 goals in 8 games in 2002/03 for Manchester United can't fail to score more than 5 this season.
Better get Ronney back and score more goals.

i've got to admit this but man u are absolutely shocking and if they carry on like this they won't be winning anything
Did they play very badly?
They were away at Lyon and coming back from two goals down with two strikes from van Nistelrooy shows something, and I bet they won't lose their excellent Champions League home from they preserved over the years.
In their first group stage they always get 15 or 16 pts, at lowest 13.

Hehe sometimes can't really help when your team's losing, does it feel so sad to be playing that way???
Good to hear some players have performed up to standard, Ferguson pointed out Heinze, Ronaldo and van Nistlerooy as the three better players that game.
lol it could be worse i suppose...man utd could of been 3-0 beaten by bayern leverkusen!! :D
I thought we played well Second Half, but first i felt like crying LOL!
You weren't the only one!! Talk about a game of two halves - Ruud saved us from a mauling, though mid second half United did play some good stuff. As for T-Ho I have no idea why he's playing so badly at the moment, but surely Roy Carroll has to be given a run now. Very impressed with Heinze (apart from him going missing for the second goal) and Rio will be back Monday (Rooney maybe on bench - he looks in good shape in training)
This simply has to be the point in which United finally get their act together - there can be no more excuses.
Also Congratulations to Ruud on becoming our alltime top European goalscorer! 30 and counting ....
Mike.
30 already in just around the same number of games, that's an amazing record.
He never looked like he's not gonna catch up with that rather low record.
Just another 2 or 3 seasons and he'll overtake Raul as CL all-time top scorer, who has got 46 currently and is on poor form, assuming he gets 8-10 goals a season.
C'mon Ruud :)
So, how does everyone see the Liverpool game at Old Trafford going?
I think Rio will start alongside Silvestre, with Heinze and P Neville full backs, midfield will be no surprise with Keano and Scholesy in the centre and Ronnie and Ryan running the wings - Up front I predict Ruud will be joined by Alan Smith (Rooney will be on bench - hopefully)
A strong team in theory, lets hope the silly mistakes are out of the way after Lyon!

I wouldn't put Silvestre in Centre back as he is the one letting us down at the moment, i would put Heinze there and Silvestre at Left back!
Maybe putting Mickael back in partnership with Rio will help - I got the feeling that most of Silvestre's mistakes seemed to be caused by panic. Maybe he'll be more relaxed and sure of himself next to Rio. Heinze is doing fine at left back so I'd leave him there. As for right back, the closest we have to Gary Neville is obviously his brother! Oh, and I forgot to say that I think Fergie will keep faith with T-Ho, at least in the next match.
And hopefully Ruud will continue where he left off in Lyon - and Alan Smith is bang in form too.

It would be a great loss but if, unlike Beckham, they replaced him well it would be better. So far this season he hasn't had that good a perfomance. Though I expect him to improve.. I thought leaving England would improve his performances.

No offense but since beckham wen´t I believe Ronaldo has replaced him in a fine manor.
This weekend lets hope for a top notch performance against the Spurs. Personally i think Fergie should exchange 0´shea with Smith and then exchange scholes with smith. Which gives us two dangerous forwards. Since Scholesey didn`t excel as a forward(attacking midfielder).

No he couldn't, don't you know Wenger was after Ronaldo before Utd got him? If you hadn't got him then Arsenal would have, that's why they got Reyes in the end he was like instead
Anyway seen as RonnyC is so young he's much better value for money, the kid will last you a looong time

Ronaldinho would have brought far more to the team than Ronaldo, just look at how well he has done at Barca. How much did Barca pay for Ronaldinho?
I don't think Ronaldo will ever be able to cross like Beckham, or accumulate the same amount of assists that Beckham got in his time at United.

you can't deny that Ronaldo is extremely dangerous to any opposing team down the wings, and at only 19 he still has a lot of room to improve, how old is Ronaldinho?
Ronaldinho is 24, I think.
I know Ronaldo is young and will no doubt improve, but I was just saying that Ronaldinho would possibly have been a better signing. He is arguably the best player in the world, and would have had an immediate effect, like he did at Barca.
Bear in mind you're working with "what ifs"
Ronaldo has come to Utd and although I don't like to say it has been a success overall so far I would say. Ronaldinho could have come to United and flopped like a fish for all we know :)
Kovacevic
24-09-2004, 08:58
True, but there was by far room for both, Ronaldo on the right wing, and Ronaldonho as a partner with RVN, I think tha would have been a quite dangerous strike force up front. But then, this is only as u called it "what ifs"...

Ronaldo will be amazing in 2 seasons time I think. He still has a problem knowing when to the simple ball. It would also be nice to see him cut in more as Rooney does... Rooney may not have all the tricks that Ronaldo does but he is more direct and seems to have a better end product? But then Utd now have both these players... if they could buy another mf and keep their dfs fit they may come back at Chelsea and Arse?
btw, how did they perform against Liverpool? I know the result and the scorer but I didn't see the match...

24-09-2004, 11:10
They ran over L pool the first half. Had an overwhelming percent of the possesion. In the second half liverpool got their act together and got in the match. But after 1-1, United took the advantage in play once again.
Must be Benitez's zonal marking strategy that cost Liverpool the game, it did not work out well at all.
Ferdinand in my opinion was decent in his first match, a lot of people were saying he wouldn't be match fit, or maybe he would be used as a substitute.
Manchester United are a different proposition with Rio Ferdinand in defence, you could see the reassuring effect Rio had on those around him, also Wes Brown did very well at right back - linked up very well with Ronaldo (who decimated Liverpool all night) I had a feeling that Mickael Silvestre's performance would improve once he was partnered with Rio. And Sheasy did very well in his roving midfield role too (unfortunate with the OG though)
Let's just hope that the momentum continues against Spurs tomorrow, United will need that sort of performance to topple a very good Tottenham side.
No Rooney in the squad, though indications are he's ready to go - I guess Fergie wants to give him an Old Trafford debut next week. Saha is on the mend too.
