I still don't know why we released Neumayr, he must have pissed Fergie off or something, but hopefully he'll play first team for Duisburg and turn out to be a decent player (would've been nice if we'd have kept him though :( )
Any news on transfers? Gudjohnsen? Martins?

Oh yes, we've just signed Carrick for £12m which could initially rise to £14m. Its posted in the Football Forum if you want to read the article. This is a big swoop for us and I'm pleased we've been able to secure a good Central player, and with Fergie's guidance, no doubt he can become great. With Scholes and Smudge back next year, our Midfield is already starting to look stronger.

don't expect any transfer movements during the WC...
Not personal agreement terms anyway. Certainly accepted bids and from 'what I've heard' Spurs are going to accept United's or have already accepted a £12m bid for Carrick.
Rumoured we're also lining up an £8m swoop for Ribery although Marsielle seem to think Lyon are his only option. Not to mention our 'scoutwatch' of Mascherano and Zokora lately. All this Mikel money is starting to claim benefit now.

You won't get Ribery for £8 million. You already have a £10 million bid rejected. I've heard Ribery has made his choice, and he will be moving to Lyon.
Mascherano is quality though. He has the potential to become the best defensive midfielder in the world. His position sense is excellent, his passing is accurate and quick, and his tackling is top notch. I really hope Arsenal get him (I remember we were linked with him 2 years ago when Real Madrid wanted Vieira). He would be the perfect midfield partner for Fabregas.
Zakora was quite impressive too. He has an aggressive style and has boundless levels of energy from what it seemed like. He started of brightly in the first half, but the second half was all about Yaya Toure for Ivory Coast. He was dictating the pace of the game. He is very good techincally and has got a very good ability to pass the ball. His vision and composure on the ball is very good too. It lookd like he was passing the ball effortlessy, with great accuracy. He has the potential to become world class.

Yeah, heard about that. I surely hope he does, that will be unbeliavably fantastic for us!
Yaya Toure does have the potential to be world class. I'm sure he will be courted by some clubs after the World Cup, despite signing a two year contract extension with Olympiakos.

Bayern Munich admit they are interested in Manchester United's Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Van Nistelrooy, 29, failed to hold down a regular place at Old Trafford last season and reportedly fell out with boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rumenigge told newspaper Bild: "He wanted to come to us in 2001.
"We will do nothing behind the backs of Manchester United, first we must find out if he really is on the market."
Manchester United paid PSV Eindhoven £19m for the Dutch international striker in July 2001.
His impressive record, which has seen him score 95 goals in 137 Premiership appearances, has made him a cult figure at Old Trafford.
But he had to settle for a place on the bench for much of the second half of last season and his relationship with Ferguson reportedly broke down.
Van Nistelrooy left United's final game of last season before kick-off and was subsequently told he would not be allowed to appear in Roy Keane's testimonial.
The Dutch striker admitted he has been given no indication that United are keen to sell him.
If they are, Bayern will face competition for one of Europe's most devastating strikers, with AC Milan keen to find a replacement for Andriy Shevchenko, who has joined Chelsea.

Torres to complete titanic United trio
Fernando Torres could form a formidable strikeforce with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United next season.
Reports indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson is closing in on a £25million deal for Spain international Torres, who will lead the attack for his country in Wednesday's World Cup Group H clash against Ukraine in Leipzig.
The Atletico Madrid striker, 22, weighed in with 13 goals in La Liga last season as the capital club finished 10th.
But he won numerous plaudits for his all-round displays and has leapt ahead of Raul in the national team's pecking order after scoring seven times in 11 World Cup qualifiers.
And instead of Torres replacing van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford, Ferguson is now keen to pair them together, with Rooney completing a fearsome attacking trio.
United know they need to match the firepower of Chelsea if they are to have any chance of wresting the Premiership crown back from Stamford Bridge.
And with Jose Mourinho able to call upon Andriy Shevchenko, Hernan Crespo and Didier Drogba, Ferguson is determined to assemble an equally robust set of strikers ahead of the 2006/7 campaign.

its a bidding war..it al depends on which club torres chooses.....
Despite having a £10million bid rejected by Tottenham Hotspur for the England international last week, Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to land his number one midfield target this summer.
And it is now being reported that the two clubs have settled on a figure of £15million for the former West Ham United star, although neither side have made an official comment to back this up.
And United are confident that despite the huge progress being made at White Hart Lane under Martin Jol, Carrick will opt to move to Old Trafford.

O'Shea may be used in a makeshift in the Carrick deal
I could maybe see it happening, O'Shea is a good player and has underated technique and what not but hes just not United standard in which we require unfortunately. Although I'd be glad to see him in the Premiership even if it for another team.
But £15m + O'Shea is daylight robbery if you ask me. But, and its a big but, Carrick has superb potential and is currently good, with a bit of work from Fergie he'll may become great if he doesn't crumble and cry.

Eidur Gudjohnsen has moved a step closer to sealing his move to Barcelona by successfully passing a medical.
Chelsea granted Barcelona permission to speak to the Icelandic international on Tuesday after both sides agreed a fee for his signing.
The 27-year-old held talks with the Spanish giants on Wednesday and passed a medical at Camp Nou.
Gudjohnsen is expected to be unveiled by Barcelona as their new signing on Wednesday night and the former Bolton man is thought to have agreed a four-year deal with the UEFA Champions League holders.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
The 27-year-old passed a medical on Wednesday and within a few hours had wrapped up the formalities of his switch to the Camp Nou.
After Barca had earlier agreed a fee with The Blues for the former Bolton player, Gudjohnsen put to pen-to-paper on a reported four-year contract to end Frank Rijkaard's long pursuit of the player.
The Icelandic international found himself increasingly on the margins of the Chelsea first team last season but is still widely regarded as one of the most complete strikers in The Premiership.
After scoring 54 goals in 186 league games for The Blues, Gudjohnsen has the chance to make a similar name for himself in La Liga.

Fergie's in for Torres
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been given permission to go ahead with a £25million move for Spain World Cup star Fernando Torres.
Athletic Madrid striker Torres, 22, was Spain's top scorer in their qualifying campaign and has told World Cup team-mates that he will move to Old Trafford.
United had been behind Spurs and Newcastle in the queue of interested clubs but Fergie's fall-out with Ruud van Nistelrooy has led to him looking around at other strikers. Torres has two years left on his contract but Athletic want to cash in.
United have won the race for Norwegian kid Magnus Wolff Eikrem - thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Molde midfielder Eikrem, a product of Solskjaer's soccer school in Norway, will sign a two-year scholarship when he turns 16 in August.

Atletico Madrid are keen to extend striker Fernando Torres' contract by an additional 12 months.
Torres is contracted to the Calderon outfit for another two seasons until the summer of 2008, but they want to retain his services for the long term.
The Spain international is currently impressing for his country in the World Cup and a number of clubs are purring over his undoubted talent.
However, Atletico are in no rush to sell and rather than cash in on their prized asset they want to retain his services for a longer period.
Premiership giants Manchester United are believed to be firm admirers of the 22-year-old, who has three goals in two games in Germany.
A number of Italian sides are also reportedly keen, but with a €90 million release clause, do not expect the offers to come flooding in.
Spain have already qualified from Group H and should Torres continue to find the back of the net, more clubs could join the race for his signature.

Mascherano all the way!
Yep, we certainly need to be looking at building our centre midfield rather than splashing out on another striker. Who would be our first team centre midfield at the moment? Scholes and Giggs or Smith (when back) or O'Shea. None of these are real world class to be honest and if we don't sign someone in this position we are in serious trouble :(
I would rather see Smith go back to playing as a striker as I don't think he will ever be good enough at centre midfield to win us the Premiership.
I would have taken him from Leeds as a striker. He is half the player in midfielf that he is upfront. I'd have him, especially now.

Yeah you're right, but I'd still love to see him at Old Trafford. I think he has a better chance of going there, than anywhere else. I bet the Liverpool lads have been bigging up the North West. ;)
We really need to sort out the midfield though.
United are being linked with Marcos Senna, the Villarreal midfielder. He's Brazilian - most people born in Rio de Janiero are - but plays for Spain.
He's a defensive midfielder, decent lad and the ideal foil for Riquelme. Riquelme creates, Senna destroys - that's the deal. Senna never gives the ball away and balances the team well. United should go for the pair of them.
Problem is Senna's 30 in July.
Also, I am not allowed to print the fixtures (which came out this morning) as if we do then the FA will threaten legal action against us. We are allowed to comment on one or two of the games though. To comment on them at this stage is probably an exercise in futility, given the likelihood Sky will at some point get their hand on them and no doubt try to remove any 3pm Saturday kickoffs they can find.

We have Chelsea away right at the end of the season again (in April) :( Not really what we wanted.. on one hand, if it's down to the wire and we win, it could win us the league. But of course, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with Terry, Cole, Ballack and Shevchenko is not the sort of game that you're going to want if you need to string a run together.
Apparantly the offer for Carrick has been upped to £14.2 million.

I was reading in a paper today that we are interested in Miroslav Klose now that he is having a good World Cup.
He would be a good replacement for Ruud as he does very little to help the other striker and he usually poaches a lot of goals.
Reserve team boss Rene Meulensteen has quit to take the manager's job at Brondby, replacing Michael Laudrup.
Meulensteen was very highly rated by all at O.T. He was promoted mid-season following the departure of Ricky Sbragia to Bolton and oversaw the stiffs winning the treble.

Ronaldo ready for Real switch
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been quoted in the Spanish press as saying he is ready to leave Old Trafford to move to Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants are currently in the process of finding a new president and the Portuguese World Cup winger says he will pursue a move to the Bernabeu if candidate Juan Miguel Villar Mir is elected as the chosen man.
Ronaldo is seen as a crucial cog in Sir Alex Ferguson's long term plans with The Red Devils, and his apparent decision to leave The Premiership will come as a shock after he penned a contract extension on November.
Currently in Germany preparing for a World Cup quarter final with England on Saturday, Ronaldo has now voiced his desire to bring an end to his time at Old Trafford as he closes in on his fourth season under Ferguson.
"I have told my agent I am prepared to leave. I want to do it in the best manner possible," Ronaldo is quoted as saying by Marca.
"I want to play for Real Madrid and dream of doing so.
"I have gone with Villar Mir's project because it is serious and follows correct procedures.
"They have explained to me their plans and the next step is they will talk to Manchester United to open negotiations.
"Other candidates wanted me to sign a document which is not legal. Villar Mir has promised me he will talk to the club and all we have done is talk through an agent."
Villar Mir has emerged as one of the front-runners for the Bernabeu's top job, and Ronaldo's declaration could well galvanise his campaign as all the hopefuls make their election pledges.
I don't mind to much if it does, it should be a lot of money.

I tought in a lineup for red devils, i think a 4-5-1 formation would fit very well in the team: at the back, Heinze, Neville, Rio and Vidic (you need a quality CB, maybe Cannavaro) at the midfield, you have a big problem in DMF, Diarra would be a good option, then, Giggs and Scholes would play in his front, in the wings Simão in the left, in the right, Ribery?, Joaquin? Lennon?, you need a right wing.....at forward you have Rooney, or you can put him on the right and up fron RVN.
What's your thoughts about that?

Wes Brown is certainly good enough to play at centre back, so Vidic is only needed as backup. Won't be getting Diarra, at the moment looks like one of Carrick/Petit/Kalinichenko . Ribery looks set to go to Lyon, I doubt Spurs will sell Lennon and United haven't shown any interest whatsoever in Joaquin.

From soccernet.com:
Rooney claim: No intent and no ill will
England striker Wayne Rooney insists he did not deliberately stamp on Portugal's Ricardo Carvalho in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final and insists he was 'gobsmacked' by the red card he received.
The 20-year-old Manchester United striker has also admitted he was 'disappointed' with Old Trafford colleague Cristiano Ronaldo's behaviour during the match but said: 'I bear no ill feeling to Cristiano'.
Rooney said in a statement: 'I want to say absolutely categorically that I did not intentionally put my foot down on Ricardo Carvalho. He slid in from behind me and unfortunately ended up in a positioning where my foot was inevitably going to end up as I kept my balance. That's all there was to it.
'When the referee produced the red card I was amazed - gobsmacked. I bear no ill feeling to Cristiano but am disappointed that he chose to get involved. I suppose I do though have to remember that on that particular occasion we were not team-mates,' he said.
Rooney said: 'Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed to have been sent off in a World Cup finals match for England.
'I remember the incident clearly and have seen it several times since on TV. I am of the same opinion now as I was at the time that what happened didn't warrant a red card. If anything, I feel we should have had a free-kick for the fouls committed on me during the same incident.
'If you ask any player - and indeed almost any fan - they will tell you that I am straight and honest in the way I play. From what I've seen in the World Cup, most players would have gone to ground at the slightest contact but my only thought then was to keep possession for England.'
Rooney hailed his England team-mates who fought valiantly to force extra-time and penalties despite being a man down before crashing out in the shoot-out.
'I thought the England lads were awesome after I went off and the effort they put in was amazing. Truly if there was any justice England would now be preparing for a World Cup semi-final. Sadly, however, that is not to be in 2006.
'I want again to thank my team-mates for the unbelievable effort they put into the game and for all the support and encouragement they gave me after it.
'I will also always be indebted to everyone who, after my injury, helped make it possible for me to begin to fulfil a boyhood dream by representing my country in the finals of a World Cup.'
Rooney also paid tribute to outgoing manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and captain David Beckham.
'Finally I want to say how sorry I am to see Sven go and to see David step down as captain. I will always be grateful to Sven for his guidance and the faith he showed in me and to David for being a great captain and great friend.'
So that still leaves Gary Neville

Rossi is very talented and could grow to be an great player. Has he not been top scorer for the reserves two seasons running?
He is a very good young player, very inteligent and a good goal scorer.
He was thinking of leaving for more first team football but I think the promise of more off of United and a word in his ear from Alex convinced him to stay.
Sir Alex Ferguson wants his players to reach peak fitness ahead of the new season as the Reds prepare to travel to South Africa on a pre-season tour.
A squad of players not including those who took part in the World Cup will take on Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates between 15-22 July.
The likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all resumed training on Monday and will be among the big names on the pre-season tour of South Africa.
"We are taking a good nucleus of the experienced players over including Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Patrice Evra, Darren Fletcher, Kieran Richardson, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and some of our young players.
"In most cases [the players involved in the World Cup] have got a three week holiday. The ones who’ll be reporting on 24 July after the knock-out stages are Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Gabriel Heinze, Edwin Van Der Sar and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Ji-Sung Park will be reporting back on 18 July."
Louis Saha and Mikael Silvestre, who could be involved in the final as France take on Italy, are scheduled to return on 31 July, while Cristiano Ronaldo, who exited the tournament at the semi final stage at the hands of France, should be back on 28 July.
Sir Alex also gave an update on the progress of Alan Smith, who is returning from a the broken leg and dislocated ankle he suffered against Liverpool at Anfield in February. Sir Alex says the Yorkshireman's rehabilitation is going well.
"Alan is doing very well and we’re very pleased with the progress, but when he was injured in February we said he wouldn’t play for six or seven months so he won’t be back until the end of August, or early September."

Italy coach Marcello Lippi could make a move to Manchester United after the World Cup final, according to the Italian press.
The former Juventus boss has masterminded the Azzurri's progress to the last two at this year's tournament, but his contract is set to expire after Sunday's game.
The Italian Federation commissioner Guido Rossi has suggested he would like to keep Lippi in the role for the 2008 European Championship, but reports suggest he may well opt for a move to Old Trafford instead.
Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to have earmarked the veteran tactician as a possible successor, for when he is ready to quit The Red Devils, so the role that he will be offered is not altogether clear.
In the meantime, Rossi and Lippi are set to meet next week to decide on the future of the national job.
Italy's under-21 coach Claudio Gentile could well take over the reins should Lippi turn down a new contract, but he is just one of a number of possible frontrunners.
The European qualifying campaign kicks off in September so the Italians will be anxious to appoint a successor quickly.
But in the immediate future the Azzurri squad will be solely focused on the challenge of France in Berlin, with the chance to add a fourth world crown to their trophy cabinet, they will also have the extra incentive of being able to sign their maverick manager off in the finest fashion.

Seems we are after Tomasz Kuszczak of WBA. I think he is a decent keeper, and could be a good successor to van der sar, especially if we get him for £2m, but why in the hell did we sign Ben Foster for £1.5m (or was it £2m?) Also, we really should be concentrating on 1st team midfielders rather than a sub keeper.
Would love to see Lippi come, Whats the news about Ruud ? I heard that SAF is giving Ruud another chance, but that's probably BS.(Hopefully not!) Also heard today that if Milan gets relegated United will place a bid in for "Rino" Gattuso, which i hope is true. As the Thomas Kuszczak story goes i hope he comes, he can be a great standby for Edwin. Cannot wait until the season starts now, anyone know where i can catch the friendly's on T.V ? Would be really appreciated!

South Africa tour is on MUTV, some of the other friendlies will be on there too I guess.
The South Africa tour should be good to watch as there is actually a lot of our first team going, hopefully we can see Scholes get back to his best form and Rossi can get some more experience.

I'd like to see Pique given more of a run out.

Any clues to how much MUTV costs a month ? As my mum won't probably let me get it, But if its cheap i may pay...

£6 a month if I can remember. It's okay, I've cancelled mine as I just didn't watch it. Only bothered watching the Reserve games, and now we've sold Neumyr its a bit pointless as he was a star.

Apparently it's down to £3.99 a month...

I haven't really seen much of him but when I have he seemed to remind me of Rio, he has some pace, good in the air and has composure on the ball, I would definetly like to see more of him as he could become a class player.

I heard they wanted to ship him out on loan but he said he wanted to stay in England & fight for a place. Which makes me think he has a good attitude.

Thought it was just £3.99 for the first month of buying ? Meh.

Hopefully he will wait for his oppertunity and not get too annoyed, if he does that I think he could really be a big player for the future.

Yeah you might be right, was just checking it for cali, and it said £3.99 a month but I didn't really read on. Said it's £35 for a year though, which is a good deal.
Does anyone actually know stone-wall what our transfer kitty is as its driving me mad. I've heard rumours of around £30m thanks to our run-away Mikel. What I want to know is how we are going to pay this back, in debt, throwing away money without substantially knowing when its coming back.

Not to sure exactly how much it is but it must be roughly £30 million.
What does everyone think of Torres now after he had a good World Cup? Do you reckon we should sign him or have you seen better strikers to sign?
Torres would be a good signing and i would like him to join. But i don't think he will, not in this summer anyway. We will definately get a midfielder, hopefully Gattuso, if not someone like Mascherano. I heard that Tevez has wore a Manchester United shirt before and if Man utd put a bid in for him, we may get him. Would love to see him come, more then Torres. Why ? Because Tevez is stronger/faster and can shoot better then Torres. Tevez is actually one of my favourite forwards due to his strength/pace. But dont take this the wrong way as Torres has pace and can shoot and score but i would prefer a different striker i.e Tevez. But my ideal and dream signing's for this summer are:
Gattuso
Tevez
Although, i have heard that we were after Miroslav Klose who can score a hell of a lot of goals. But i doubt we will get Klose before we sell Ruud, which i personally hope doesn't happen.

I dont think we should buy him, the price for him is too much, i heard Athletico wanted to sell him for £40 which shows that they dont want to sell him.

Your probably getting the English pound mixed up with Euros as his price for us would be roughly £25m which in turn equals around the area of 40E.
I think that £25 million is a bit over the top, we could probably sign a good midfielder and striker for that amount. I think that Morten Gamst Pedersen would be a good signing, he can play left wing or centre midfield, he can take free kicks and corners and he has a great shot on him, also he wouldn't be too expensive as I can't see Blackburn demanding too high a price.

no that is true....Atletico has said...If you want to buy Torres pay the Minimum Release Clause which is 41M GBP

Bloody hell, Torres must be so happy there if he is willing to stay at Athletico Madrid without playing in the Champions League (which a player of his ability should be). I would of thought he would of wanted to play in the Champions League because otherwise I don't think he will reach his full potential.

thoughts on utd new kits?
I didn't really like it ti start off with but I have got to say that it is growing on me, I kind of like the retro look to it, not sure whether I will buy it but I expect I will in the end.

Yeah I suppose that is the problem I have, I'm not to sure what it will look like once I am wearing it but I am sure I will get used to it as I never really like our kits to start off with.

Torres will move this summer, but Atletico want to drive the fee up as high as possible. They'll probably end up getting about £25m for him.

Where do you reckon he'll go? Arsenal? Real Madrid? Barcelona?
Hopefully not at old trafford.

I'd like to say Arsenal, but it appears we're more likely to go for the much cheaper option of Saviola.
I'm not sure, AC Milan I suppose :\
I can't see him coming to United as I don't think that SAF will be willing to pay £25 million for him, we will most likely buy a striker for around £10 million and then hopefully spend more money signing a midfielder.

Yeah I saw that, I also saw that Ruud has been linked with Newcastle and Bayern Munich, I can't see him going to Newcastle but he might go to Bayern.
