Yes, you really need to work on penalties, especially Cech. He's a very good goalkeeper, makes good saves but he's very poor on penalties. He usually jumps a bit to try to destabilize the player shooting the penalty(he did that against Liverpool in the CL semi-final too) but does not concentrate enough, so he goes in the wrong direction most of the time.(Not all the times though) He did go in the right direction for Rooney's shot but the ball went a little higher.

tevez - 8?

I don't know why but I never liked it when strikers got the number 8.

Heinze tells Fergie: I still want to quit Old Trafford
EXCLUSIVE - By IAN LADYMAN - More by this author » Last updated at 23:23pm on 6th August 2007

Comments Comments

Contract rebel Gabriel Heinze last night upped the ante in his row with Manchester United by telling Sir Alex Ferguson to his face that he wants to move to Liverpool.

Defender Heinze returned to training with United as planned yesterday and headed straight for a meeting with manager Ferguson to thrash out his future.

And the Argentine international told Sportsmail last night he remains set on a controversial move to Anfield and that his lawyers are looking at ways to force the deal through, despite United's opposition.

Heinze said: "I've spoken with the coach and I have insisted that my wish is to leave the club if a big offer appears on the table.

"Today the only such offer is from Liverpool and it is this that is causing the problem. Earlier in the summer I received a promise from United that I could leave if the deal was good for both parties and at the moment there is an offer from Liverpool.

"The coach is serious about this and I understand his view. But I am serious, too. My lawyers are studying the situation and I'm going to wait for a few days now to get a full report from them."

Heinze - who last season lost his left-back berth to Patrice Evra - has two years left on his contract but was told in a letter from chief executive David Gill at the start of the summer that he could leave if an offer of £6.5million was received.

The only offer subsequently made has been from Liverpool and Heinze's representatives are trying to force the club's hand because the letter did not state that bids from Premier League rivals would not be considered.

"All I want now is a swift solution to this saga," said Heinze, who was given extra time off by Ferguson after his participation in the Copa America with his country. "I've fulfilled my duties by returning for training and I will now carry on behaving like a professional. I will keep on coming to training and will see what happens. I have a muscle injury in my leg but it is only minor and will not keep me out for long.

"People keep saying that there's an offer for me from Juventus but I know nothing about it. Liverpool is the only offer so far.

"I don't want to spend time at the club just waiting and not playing as I don't think that is in the best interests of the club or myself."

Heinze's representatives last week suggested the issue may go to court but it now appears more likely that the Premier League will be asked to rule on it.

United's stance is that Heinze's contract carries more weight than a letter and it is also understood that Gill told the player's representatives a move to a rival would be out of the question. The conversation is believed to be on tape. The Premier League have indicated they would be happy to get involved in an arbitration process.

United will send two teams to play in friendlies tomorrow night, one to Glentoran in Northern Ireland and another to Dunfermline in Scotland. New signing Carlos Tevez is expected to feature in Dunfermline but Heinze's injury appears to preclude him from making either trip.

Radical Iranian militants interested in buying Manchester United

While many pundits and fans have been debating whether the lack of transparency at Leeds means that tests of suitability on new owners have been bypassed, Pies reckons this one is less likely to sneak under the radar. Apparently a radical Iranian militant group is interested in buying Manchester United. Ansar Hezbollah claims its first act in charge would be to change the club's name to Khayber in honour of an oasis near the holy city of Medina.

But Man Yoo fans can breathe easy that they will still be chanting 'Glory, Glory Man United' rather than 'Glory, Glory be to Allah' for a while yet. The club's press office has reassured supporters that Malcolm Glazer has not intention of selling the club (not sure if that is good news or bad news) least of all to radical militant groups.

Wayne Rooney enjoys a bit of target practice with Dirty Sanchez

Remember we warned you that the latest Nike Put It Where You Want It viral would feature Wayne Rooney smacking the ball at scantily clad Welsh daredevils Dirty Sanchez? Well here is the finished article. The group enjoy a few eye-watering games revolving around being pelted by the Rooney rocket. Note the ominous to be continued caption at the end of the video.

What formation do you guys reckon we're going to use tomorrow? I think it's going to be something like this:

--------------------------------VDS-----------------------------------

--------Brown--------------Rio-------Vidic--------------Heinze---------

---------------------------Hargreaves-----Scholes----------------------

--------Ronaldo-----------------------------------------Giggs-----------

------------------------------Rooney------------------------------------

------------------------------------Saha/Tevez?------------------------

Wan
11-08-2007, 09:53
Saha is injured & can't play..
So it must definitely Tevez..

ecureuil
11-08-2007, 10:35
Tevez is not playing tomorrow. Fergie basically confirmed the team to be this -

--------------------------------VDS-----------------------------------

--------Brown--------------Rio-------Vidic------------Evra/O'Shea---------

---------------------------Carrick-----Scholes----------------------

--------Ronaldo-------------------------------------Nani/Evra-----------

------------------------------Giggs------------------------------------

------------------------------------Rooney------------------------

Or maybe even five in the middle with Ronaldo and Giggs on either side, and Carrick, Scholes and O'Shea in the middle. Nani is the only new player that looks likely to get a game, the others might get 20 minutes at the end.

O'Shea was probably one of the most important players last season, chipped in with some vital goals.

Phatmann
11-08-2007, 15:05
Indeed. Maybe Bardsley will get a chance though, as I remember last season or the season before when Neville was injured at the beginning of the season, Bardsley played the first few games (maybe about 10?) More than likely Brown will play though. Never know what to expect of Wes though, some games he seems to have his heads in the clouds and other games he will look the best defender around.

vanNistelrooy
12-08-2007, 10:29
O'Shea always pops up with important goals

I'm nervously awaiting kick-off.

Should be a good game. I hope Anderson get's a decent run-out. I'm not expecting a white wash here like the start of last season (Although to be fair, we were playing Fulham for the first game last season). I think we will win, I'm confident with that, as we are expected to win this one. If we are to win the Premiership again this season, we will need to win against teams like Reading (No offence to Reading, they are a good side). Also hope Nani get's a decent look in. I think he will, ahead of Anderson maybe. Just one more thing to say before I go to watch the match, that is;

COME ON UNITED!

I don't think Anderson is really ready for the Premiership yet, but I'd like to see Nani get 20 minutes or so.

I do agree with you mate, but the only way Anderson is to improve is to play matches. I have a lot of faith in his ability to split apart defences. You say that he's not quite ready yet, but surely if Fergie want's Anderson to improve (Even though I believe he is good at the moment, as you said, he isn't fully Prem quality yet), is to play him against teams like Reading. Not the full match, yet anyways. But I would like to see him have a run-out at the least.

Nani I think won't start. Evra maybe on the left hand side of midfield. Can't tell yet. Nani will come on though, no doubt about that I think.

Anderson isn't even in the squad...

Damn. I haven't even seen the squad for today's match yet. Real shame that.

Disappointing performance today. Giggs/Scholes/Carrick were terrible, really poor games. Rooney was our best player, and he's probably fucked for a couple of months with an injury. I don't know why Tevez wasn't on the bench, he might not be 100% but he's fit enough to come on for 10 minutes and create something.

I'm the same age as you and no-one bullies me here, so that's bollocks. I'm sure it's just because you, as Mat said, don't really post anything worth reading.

Today was frustrating. Rooney's injury is going to obviously effect us a lot. We didn't play too bad but just couldn't finish off the chances. When Ronaldo took the free-kick in the dieing seconds, I just knew he wasn't going to score. He should of let Giggsy take it, as Giggs came close earlier on in the match.

Reading played well defensively, and Duberry had a good game. Still really think that we should of won though. Easily enough.

So, who does everyone think is going to be up-front against Pompey, then? Anderson? Ronaldo? Giggs? Dong? Campbell? I think it will probably be Giggs and Anderson to start off. Both not really occupying the Central Forward role, but more the Attack Midfield/Support Striker roles. Highly doubt Dong will play (And that's good), Ronaldo will most probably be on the right hand side and Tevez is still injured. Oh how I wish that Saha was back from injury.

He's definately got the speed and technique to play upfront, but whether he's got the physical strength to make a big impact is questionable

fuck.. I stayed up late until 1 AM to watch the match & I got a news that Rooney is out for 2 months.

I thought Giggs was useless up front. It looks like we're gonna have to play a 4-5-1 formation against Pompey and City now.

I believe you should play your youth team against Portsmouth as a gesture of goodwill.

I dont think Tevez would do well with only him upfront

I could of sworn on a scummers life that Tevez was injured? Either way I win...

That was a frustrating game. I think we did well though we couldn't finish our chances(who would be able to anyway, against eleven defenders and O'Shea[he's a useful player but obviously not as a CF] up front). I was annoyed at Ronaldo, who was taking all the free-kicks, should have let Giggs take them. Ronaldo just looks real hard, kicks it with power and without accuracy(compared to the amount of power in the shots)

How about Tevez & Dong upfront?

Be much better with Tevez and Ronaldo with Nani playing RM.

So how about Anderson?
I think he was good at Porto.

Lets just say England are fucked and have no chance of qualifying.

Atleast they can now blame the useless waste of blood and organs that is Wayne Rooney for their absence from Euro 2008.

LOLZ.

If Fergies game hed chuck on Ando in with tevez.
But it will probably be 4-5-1 or yes as someone mentioned earlier Ronaldo playing upfront with nani slotting in at midfield.

Agreed with the Ronaldo part. It seems that for every good free kick he took, there's 20 bad ones. I heard that Hargreaves is good at taking them, so I hope he'll be given the job.

Also, I heard that Saha is back for full training. He better not get injured there.

Yeah, I really hope he doesn't get injured when we need him most. He's our only CF that isn't injured. How was Tevez injured?

Tevez should take free kicks when he's fit. He scored some beauties last season.

Tevez is fine. I fancy him to score tomorrow.
