it just hit me. I was looking at my brand spankin new home kit and wondering why the heck are the collars v-neck(ish) lately and then i realized Nike's accommodated for one factor, Rooneys head. Yeah thats right wazza's noggin has a hand in determining the design of future united kits. I remember when we had the kit with the white triangle thing on the shoulders and how that had an elastic crew neck collar, which was the last pre v-neck and a photo of wazza on his debut with a wee rip down the chest because it could not fit his big head. So that my friends is why we have V-neck kits.
I was we were going to win but not 4-0. That's a great result. We're back to scoring!
Rooney can be the main striker for Man Utd. Football has changed to be a good target man all you need is intelligence, Francesco Totti has proved this. As long a Man Utd play short passes along with clever movement I can see Rooney being a success upfront.
That's true. I think he'll do well as a CF. Shame he isn't tall, we could be playing more long crosses. But Ferguson said he hopes Rooney scores more headers and that he heads well. Who knows, in the years to come, he might improve his jump?
wat u guys opinion of combination of rooney and tevez?? do u think they can be the next lethal weapon for ManUtd strike force?

Nah , both of them are not natural goal soccers etc, not ruud, not cole, not yorke, not ole

right lads several pieces of interesting news.
United is apparently linked with two youngsters in Veloso of Sporting and Jeremy Menez of Monaco
The Portuguese giants moved to issue a statement after rumors increased that United had pipped Arsenal to a first-option deal for the Portuguese U-21 international defender.
"Manchester United do not have a preference on him (Veloso) or any other players of Sporting Lisbon," said a club spokesman, following predictions that Veloso would follow former Sporting prospects Ronaldo and Nani to Old Trafford.
The transfer window may be closed till January, yet a number of prominent youth players around Europe are still being linked with mid-season moves to top clubs, with Manchester United at the front of the queue.
Along with Veloso, 20-year-old Monaco striker Jeremy Menez is also being touted for a January move to either United or Liverpool.
never seen Veloso played so if anyone could in forum us would be good. As for Menez, this is the second time around hes been linked with United. He was first approached when he was 16/17 yrs old while at Sochaux but declined the more because he was still too young.
He looks quite a good prospect. Still 20 yrs old (exactly 364 days older than me)
edit: talks are rife of the team that faced coventry some of them may be loaned out round january.

The Premier League have announced changes to two of United's December fixtures, including the Reds' highly anticipated clash with Northwest rivals Liverpool.
United were due to welcome Fulham to Old Trafford on Saturday 1 December but will now face Lawrie Sanchez's men on Monday 3 December (20:00 GMT kick-off, live on Setanta Sports).
Meanwhile, United's visit to Anfield – originally scheduled for Saturday 15 December – has also been rearranged, and will now take place a day later, on Sunday 16 December (13:30 GMT kick-off, live on Sky Sports).
Explosive, flamboyant, fearless and technically gifted at the age of 16. Man Utd have refined Wayne Rooney this is best shown in his improved finishing. Everyone goes on about Lionel Messi but this guy is every bit as talented if not more.

Sheffield United are poised to complete the loan signing of defender Phil Bardsley from Manchester United.
With full-back Derek Geary ruled out for up to six weeks, manager Bryan Robson has acted quickly to help fill the void.
Bardsley spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, but failed to do enough to secure a permanent switch to Villa Park.
Following The Red Devils' surprise Carling Cup exit at the hands of Coventry, Sir Alex Ferguson conceded his younger players would be departing on loan to retain their match sharpness.
Robson, who is hoping Bardsley's arrival will allow Gary Cahill and Leigh Bromby to play in the middle of his defence, is not ruling out making the full-back's move a permanent switch.
"With Gary Naysmith and Derek Geary both having injury problems this season it has been unfair on Gary Cahill and Leigh Bromby to keep using them at right -back," Robson told the club's official website.
Strengthen
"They have both done a good job for us but they are really centre-halves, so Phil will strengthen that area of the team.
"I have seen a lot of him, he's a tough-tackling and hard working player who will improve us. The loan is for three months but I wouldn't discount the possibility of it being made long-term eventually."
Meanwhile, Robson has confirmed he also wants to strengthen his midfield as The Blades look to improve on their disappointing start to the Championship season.
"I am hopeful of bringing in a central midfielder either on Monday or Tuesday," he concluded.
Seems like a step back for Bardsley considering he has recently been on loan to Glasgow Rangers and Aston Villa. He looked promising a few years back and I had hoped he would have broken into the first team by now, but it now seems he will probably move permanently to Sheff Utd after the loan spell or another championship side.

Ryan Giggs has signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United.
Giggs' current deal was due to expire at the end of this season but following negotiations with the Premier League champions, he has put pen-to-paper on new terms at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old now looks certain to overhaul Sir Bobby Charlton's United record of 759 appearances for the Red Devils.
Giggs has played 727 times for United and, having now agreed to stay at the club until at least June 2009, he is expected to surpass Charlton's record.
Delight
The Welsh forward has admitted his delight at agreeing new terms and he insists he is enjoying his football more than ever.
"I am delighted to have signed for a further season," Giggs told United's website.
"I am enjoying football more than ever and I hope to carry on playing football for Manchester United for as long as I can.
"I would like to thank Sir Alex Ferguson, the fans and everyone at the club for the great support I have received over the years."
Loyalty
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also welcomed the new contract and has hailed Giggs' loyalty to the club.
"Ryan Giggs epitomises the word loyalty," Ferguson added.
"He signed here as a 14-year-old school boy and is still with the club 20 years on.
"Apart from his playing ability he has a fantastic demeanour and is a great role model to the younger players. I am sure he will be at the club for a long time to come."

Also good to hear Fletcher is back on his feet so it'll add depth again to the midfield
Would of liked to have seen it signed until 2010. Then he could have been at the club for 20 years, he could still do it and I would like to believe he will. ;)

Even when Giggsy can't play in the first team he'd be an awesome sub to come off the bench so I think he can play well into his late thirties. He's also proved he's a decent attacking central midfielder too, though at the moment he is still best on the wings.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso has stated a desire to join Manchester United.
The Portugal international is the latest Sporting starlet to be targeted by the Premier League champions.
Arsenal and Real Madrid are also tracking Veloso, who shone for Portugal's Under 21 side at the European Championship in the summer.
But the 21-year-old would favour a move to United to play with countrymen Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.
Dream
"I would like a new adventure in Europe," Veloso is quoted in the Daily Mirror.
"I would be happy to play for a big club but to play alongside Ronaldo and Nani would be my biggest dream of all."

Hull City have signed Manchester United youngster Fraizer Campbell.
The 20-year-old has agreed a three-month loan deal at The KC Stadium and could make his debut against Watford this weekend.
Campbell has been involved with United's first-team this season - making his debut against Manchester City, but Sir Alex Ferguson has allowed him to move on a temporary deal.
"I don't think it's any secret that we like Fraizer and he's coming to us from a good club," said manager Phil Brown.
Ability
"We believe he can do a good job and the important thing for us now is to make him feel very much at home and get him into the fold as quickly as possible.
"We have a very tight-knit, super group of lads and I'm sure he'll enjoy his time here.
"We've watched Fraizer over a period of months rather than weeks. Our chief scout Bob Shaw has seen him on several occasions as have Brian Horton and myself.
"He was also on the television a number of times during Manchester United's pre-season because he played a lot of games.
"I think we're all aware of his ability and what he can bring to us. It's all about giving him the confidence and opportunity to show that, which is something I'm sure we'll do."

Partizan Belgrade have issued a hands-off warning to clubs eyeing their prize-asset Stevan Jovetic.
The 17-year-old, a Montenegrin national, has this week been linked to Manchester United and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Jovetic is rated as one of Europe's top young talents having scored 18 goals in 54 appearances for Partizan, with his mature displays having not gone unnoticed elsewhere.
However, for now at least, Europe's elite will have to wait before they can pursue any deal for the sought-after Jovetic.
Hands-off
"A lot of clubs are determined and serious in their interest of Jovetic, who is one of the most promising players in Europe according to the experts," Partizan president Tomislav Karadzic told newspaper Danas.
"Ajax has already sent us an official offer for Stevan, whose amount remains a business secret, but that is also expected to be done soon by some big and famous teams.
"But Partizan won't rush. Our fans and coach Miroslav Djukic can rest at ease until next June.
"There isn't enough money that would force us to give him up before the end of the championship. In addition, we'll do everything within our means to prolong the sale until the end of 2008.
"In the meantime, we need to protect Jovetic from stories about his 'high-flying, million-dollar departure' and protect any negative effects on his career."

Really worried about the centre of midfield now, Carrick and Hargreaves already out and Scholes picked up an injury in training for today's game and could be out for a month. Hopefully it will be Giggs and Fletcher in the middle until somebody else gets fit. Neville is close to being back now, most likely in the return leg of today's fixture.
Anderson looked promising today but the standard of opponent was poor and I think the European game suits him much more, he will have to get some more experience in the Premiership before I will be happy to see him start for us.
I don't see why everybody is getting so excited about Pique when Simpson has been much more impressive.

TG: Not a chance in hell of a 0-0. Both teams are far too good going forward.
True, I just hope both teams don't set out in a way where they don't want to make the first mistake. If the game ends up being an open one it could be one of the best games I have ever seen.

I'm looking forward to the match on Saturday. My only fear is the centre of midfield, Cesc and Flamini are looking good together. Thank god Hargreaves is back otherwise would we have been fucked.

who does fergie play though? the on form anderson or paul scholes?
Scholes is back? I thought he was injured ;)
I doubt Scholes will be back for the Arsenal game. This is how I would like to see us line up,
----------------Van Der Sar----------------
-------------------------------------------
Neville?-------Rio--------Vidic----------Evra
-------------------------------------------
-----------------------Hargreaves----------
-----------Fletcher--------------------Giggs
Ronaldo------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
-----------Tevez------Rooney--------------
I know Neville is a possibility for next week so I put him in but if he isn't fit then I would put Wes Brown in there. Fletcher has to go in there as Anderson is nowhere near experienced enough to be played in this game , plus Fletcher would give that extra bite in midfield we will need against the Arsenal midfield.

Anderson instead of Fletcher i feel, also i doubt Neville will end up playing
That's a good line up. I reckon Brown will end up playing at right-back.

We weren't going to beat you last year either, were we?
Manchester United have suffered a huge blow with the news that Paul Scholes will be out until February.
The 32-year-old midfielder has been diagnosed with damaged knee ligaments and will have an operation on Thursday.
Scholes picked up the injury in training ahead of the Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev last week.
Fellow midfielder Michael Carrick is also sidelined although Owen Hargreaves has recently returned to the side following knee problems.
Carrick, who dislocated an elbow against Roma earlier this month, is close to a return and manager Sir Alex Ferguson also expects captain Gary Neville to be back in action soon.
The 32-year-old defender has not played for seven months but is set to play for the reserves on Thursday.
Scholes played an influential role as United captured the Premier League title last season, although his side have been impressive in his absence so far, beating Dynamo Kiev 4-2 and Middlesbrough 4-1.
The former England midfielder will miss at least 13 Premier League games, including Saturday's visit to Arsenal and the trip to Liverpool on 16 December.
However, he could return in time for the Champions League knockout stage at the end of February.
Fuck. :realmad:
Going to be hard without him, Anderson is really going to have to step up his game if he is going to replace him.

:smug: Fergie is like wine, gets better with age
The Sun is at it again today. After - correctly - predicting that Martin Jol will be sacked since (and you better hold on to something here) he was not included on the team’s monopoly board, they have now made up found out that Sir Alex will move for Willy Sagnol in the January transfer window. I do not want to discuss the (in)validity of the story, but, to their credit, it would make a lot of sense for Manchester United to buy the French right back.
My reasoning is simple: Man Utd does not have adequate cover in the position that I think is their weakest. Do not get me wrong, Gary Neville is a marvellous player and I fully admire him. Being the a good captain of the team and providing quality in his own half as well as the opponent’s cannot be easy, but he does all three with great success. Problems arise when he is not fit (which has been the case too often recently) since there is not one player in the team who can take over the defensive and offensive duties with half as much success.
So far, Wes Brown has been the preferred choice of Sir Alex to fill in for the absent captain and it is not hard to see why. He is a quality defender and does a pretty good job against opposition wingers, but the reality is that he is a central defender and that is not good for the team. Brown lacks the speed needed by full-backs to keep wingers in check or to provide much needed support to Ronaldo or Giggs further up the field. Even when he does get forward he is usually inept. Again, I respect Brown and I want him to stay, but if that means playing him at right-back then we have a problem: he is not that type of player.
The second most popular choice with the gaffer for that position has been John O’Shea. Although he rarely played there this season, he has shown that he is also the wrong player. Being a winger, he looks more natural as a right-back and perhaps defends a little better then Brown, but where he makes up in defence, he loses in offence. He is worse than Brown either at providing crosses or support to his wingers, which are qualities that Manchester United have to have if they want to play the kind of free flowing football we have been used to. Again, good player, bad position.
There have been two other players who have played there this season, but for so little that they cannot be considered part of the solution - for now. Danny Simpson looks to have a bright future, but Sir Alex will not do a Wenger, and Pique is just another central defender. It now becomes clear that Man Utd desperately need another traditional right-back to cover for the ageing Neville with the same success, and Sagnol is one of the names which pops up.
Though he may be old, the Frenchman is as good as pure gold to Bayern. Defensively he is a rock. Offensively, he is as good as a winger. Speed and stamina are both qualities which he possesses in abundance and, in my opinion, he ranks among the top right-backs in the world currently. In fewer words: he is the right choice if Man Utd wants to buy a right-back in the near future. Whether he could adapt to the Premier League is anyone’s guess, but if he does, he will challenge Neville for that spot.
Therein lies the problem. Neville is the captain of that team and a legend in the making. Not even Sir Alex would have the guts to eliminate him like he did with Keane, so if both are fit (supposing Sagnol does make the unlikely move) then there is a real issue on the gaffer’s hands. Do you play the older captain who is a symbol of the team and keep the World Cup finalist and arguably France’s finest player during that campaign on the bench? Or do you upset a large portion of the fans, bench Neville, and play the better and slightly younger player?
It would not be an easy choice for anyone and that is the main obstacle in front of Sagnol’s arrival to Old Trafford: what happens when they are both fit?
Well, what will happen? Is he a viable solution? If not, then who would? There is no doubt that Man Utd need another right-back but because of Neville’s status I do not see a good one coming in for the next couple of years.

I think he's 30.
yep he's 30.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willy_Sagnol
I wouldn't been to keen on Sagnol, we need somebody who can be a long term solution. Not somebody who will play for a few more years and gets lots of injuries. I'm still not to sure whether or not Sir Alex wants Brown to replace Neville as he has hardly been setting the world alight, he does a solid enough job though.
Really worried about losing Scholes for 3 months, he's the player which makes our team click. It would be like Arsenal losing Fabregas or Chelsea losing Lampard (we know how that one went). Giggs is the only player who could fill in and give us the same sort of creativity but he doesn't play in the middle enough to be considered good enough. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in somebody in January who can play in the role Scholes does, that's unless Anderson steps up to the plate.
Ferdinand is fit for Arsenal.

Good news on Rio, i agree also that Sagnol would be a stupid signing, we need a long term solution to replace Neville he is constantly injured and will be retiring soon i'm sure, we need a good young RB but who?
Well there isn't many really good right backs out there to be honest,
Richards - Would be move to the city rivals?
Alves - Way too expensive
Lahm - Would be brilliant, but Bayern would make us pay loads for him.

Yeah they would be my top 3, probably in that order as well but as you say, none of them will come because of those reasons, somebody who i have always liked is Johnny Heitinga, i know he is naturally a centreback but he does play often at RB for Holland (pretty sure he does)
He does great at DMF too. Barry said it's his best postion.
I think he can play in that position but like you said centre back is his natural one, I think he plays defensive midfield sometimes aswell.
I suppose Pique or Evans might be Fergie's future choice but neither have really impressed me yet.

I'd have no problem with him coming, but since we've bought 2 keepers in the last few years, it would be a bit silly to buy another before selling either Kuszczak or Foster. If we got Ochoa, we'd have 4 first team keepers :|
Having said that, I'm not a big fan of Kuszczak or Foster, and Van Der Sar is about 36/37 now, so would like him to come, and for us to sell on kuszczak or foster to some lowly prem side or championship team.

Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that he turned down an offer from Manchester United, and insists he has no regrets after deciding to stay in North London.
The 23-year-old has explained that United made an approach for him over the summer, and admits he contemplated a move to The Red Devils.
However, after talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger the striker decided to stay, and went on to sign a new four-year contract.
"When I got that approach from United, I was like 'okay, it's a good team, one of the biggest teams in the world - why not?" he told The Sun.
Flattered
"It was very flattering for me and gave me confidence that I am a good footballer because, if a team like Manchester want to get me, it proves I'm doing things right.
"But don't forget I am already at a massive club and we have a fantastic team.
"I had a good discussion with the boss Arsene Wenger, we finally sorted everything out and I was very happy.
"The boss gave me confidence and the guarantee I will play."
Wenger's men host United on Saturday, live on Sky Sports 1, and after netting the winner in the side's meeting at Old Trafford last season, the towering forward has set his sights on repeating the feat.

"I don't know if what prompted United's interest was my winner at Old Trafford. But I hope to do that again on Saturday," he added.
"I did the right thing in signing a new deal with Arsenal - a four-year contract.

I'm trying to educate you and stop yourself looking foolish. You need to help me out here.
Nevermind, I'll take a crap Adebayor whilst still being top of the league any day of the week.

You can't educate an opinion Stella

No, but I can educate you so that you realise your opinion is wrong.
I'll let Ade do it for me tomorrow.
So crap that Rio and "omg mega hardmanz lolz" Vidic, said he was the toughest opponent they faced last season?
John Terry also said that.

So we'll add him to the list of footballers who know nothing too. ;)
Got a link for that mate? I didn't know he'd said that.

I didn't read an article of it. It was on ChelseaTV at the end of the season. Some of the players were reviewing the season and were asked questions. And when John Terry was asked who was the hardest opponent he faced, he said Adebayor. He was saying that he just kept running all day and was hard to move of the ball, giving him and Carvalho a hard time.

As good as Anderson's been, I'm disappointed by the very Portuguese style he's brought: rolling over, asking people to be booked etc.
I'm worried that Evra might see red in the second half. All it needs is for him to be caught out and either he's off or Arsenal will score.

I'd bring O'Shea on for Evra & keep things tight @ the back.
I expect,
Evra for O'Shea
Carrick for Hargreaves
Nani for Giggs
all to happen in the second half. Or maybe get Saha on for Tevez.

Yeah, stretch things with Saha.

Meh, all we needed was to go 10 minutes after half time without conceding, just to settle in to the game.

Disappointed with a draw. Couldn't keep things tight at the end.
You know when the big 4 battle each other the results will likely to be adraw.
Dissapointed after we looked to have the 3 points but overall it's a solid result. We look brilliant going forward but at the back lately we have been really dodgy. I hope Neville can come in and sort that all out.

Ronaldo was abysmal today. Anderson looked very good but is a bit of a scumbag, though I'm sure in time he'll change that.

Ronaldo should have closed down more especially for the Gallas goal.
Phatmann

He also should've not given the ball away 90% of the time.
Hargreaves was pretty poor today I thought, he doesn't look like he is match fit yet and his tackling was not up to his usual high standard. Getting Neville back will be great because neither Brown or O'Shea look really comfortable there. Anderson looked good today except for the card waving and feighning injury.

I thought Wes Brown was alright today, considering Ronaldo did fuck all tracking back too.

guys, arsenal against manutd, what is the score?

I was impressed by Anderson at times. Though like the rest of your midfield, the game seemed to pass him by in the second half. It's a shame he's decided he feels the need to cheat, it's something that will always ruin a players reputation - hopefully he cuts it out. Have to say I was amazed he got away without a booking - incredible.
Thought you looked extremely dangerous on the break and as we dominated play, whenever we lost the ball you tended to stretch our back four completely.
Thought Rooney did well. He's certainly improving, and as a big critic of his, I'll be happy to eat my words if he carries on. Tevez on the other hand was useless.
Ronaldo? Other than the goal he may have not been there.
I agree with all of that, I forgot to mention Tevez (probably because I didn't realise he was playing) who was non-existant, which was a shame after looking great lately.
Saha's pass in the second goal was beautiful, I hope he can get back to his best because he add's a totally different dimension to our play.
The match was about as exciting as a match between teams in the top 4 can be, it's never going to be all out attack from both teams because there is too much at stake. The second half opened up though and was very good to watch.

Absolutely not, brown has got to go, he's a complete liability at the back (diving into tackles, not tracking players) and he's completely useless coming forward as well (can't cross, seems to think hes some sort of amazing dribbler and constantly loses the ball, gets caught out when he goes forward, has no technique whatsoever when trapping the ball). basically he's shite

Well done lads, it was a good battle and even though I think the draw was justice, you were unlucky to concede so late on.
We'll just take the unbeaten thing against Liverpool and Man utd and move onto the next set of games.

Have any of you read Old Red Nose's comments about our ticket prices?
Sorry, someone remind me how your club has treated its season ticket holders with regards to cup games?

Tevez didn't look him usual busy self today, though i was impressed by Rooney, i feel a draw was a fair result but to concede that late was very disappointing, we've conceded a few goals lately now which is wierd as we went on a great run of not conceding.
I am also surprised we didn't see anything of Nani today, he played very well last week against Middlesbrough

It would be good if Evra had 2 left feet, cos his right foot is less useful than a chocolate teapot.
