I'm going for 4-0

We also have a tough game next Saturday against Blackburn, hopefully Neville will be fit by then, Hargreaves should be back to full fitness and i hope Saha can keep fit for a bit now

You didn't win either but seem to celebrate like you did.

Seriously mate I think the fact that Fergie set up his team to stop us playing football says it all in respect to who's the better footballing side. Given the situation we got ourselves into and the timing we'll gladly take coming away from the fixture still unbeaten and ahead of you in the league. A loss might of hurt us but more then that the points would defiantly of cost us come the end of the season.

I'll give you credit that the game plan worked to an extent and on the counter attack you looked dangerous, but when a Club that has spent the same money on a defender turns ups with a game plan to stop a team totaling that amount playing ball, then you just have to respect what the less expensive side have going on.

In a nutshell I'm sure you'll be there until the end I have no doubt, but everyone who knows football understands that this bunch of Arsenal kids and the way they go about their business on the pitch are special.

I'd love nothing more then to win the premiership but deep down I'm just happy our clubs reputation is growing on a global stage, that's the bigger picture.

Anderson is an attacking midifelder by nature, He might no have had the impact we wanted but you cant say he was picked for a defensive role.
It was just the case that He had to play like that because of your 5 man midfield and hargeaves getting overrun.

I'd agree that primarily that's his best position, but I haven't really been seing him play like that at all. I personally think he was picked as he's a far better scrapper (and just a better player in general) than Carrick.

You can't say he was picked there to play as an attacking midfielder, as that's simply not true. There was no intent to attack us unless it was on the break.

Why do gooners seem so happy about that result? They almost lost the game and in the end a draw was probably a fair result that suits both teams (better than a loss anyway), yet everyone is playing up that Man United came off worse. If Arsenal had been ahead until the last minute and Man Utd equalised it would have been the other way around!

Akineye
05-11-2007, 12:23
You'd have thought they won a trophy from their reaction. Still, nice to see a United side who weren't content with a draw and cut out most of the chances Arsenal tried to create.

I was very impressed with Anderson's performance and the fact that our supposed main rivals this season celebrated so much to a home draw is testament to the talent in this United side. Fuckin hate the Emirates Stadium though, the need for the massive floral arrangement at the nearby roundabout to mark the Arsenal 'legend' Denton and the clueless reaction of Arsenal fans who were perplexed upon questioning about the significance of said flowers summed it up really. Highbury was a proper ground with a decent set of supporters, as somebody mentioned to me on the day, the Emirates contains perhaps the biggest set of twats south of Villa Park.

On a side-note, Arsenal's last minute equaliser was ironic given the chants of 'hoof' that sounded every time United passed the ball more than 10 yards... nothing like an old fashioned media myth though.

I'm the first one who'll point out the failings of our nouveux home support unless we're playing Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea (City doesn't seem to be up there for these new fans) but I just hate the direction football is taking the difference between visiting Highbury and the Emirates is an example of that.

And this is the sort of statement that's liable to have me looking like a twat come June, but I reckon this current United side is the most talented I have ever seen in my lifetime, and we will finish above Arsenal's squad of 'incredibly cheap and phenomenally young and talented kids (sic)'. Saturday's success in limiting Arsenal to no real chances andforcing them to resort to long balls into the box in the last few minutes is just further proof. Added to that we've already had two very tough away games, and have played 6 away games to Arsenal's 4, which have in the last two season proved to be Arsenal's undoing . Furthermore our Christmas fixtures don't look nearly as daunting, but it's the European Cup I fear we must win if we want to keep watching the likes of Ronaldo, Tevez, Anderson and Nani at Old Trafford longer than the next two or three years.

And yes I'm aware that the last paragraph sounded a bit too 'Dear Shoot-ish'.

On another note, thanks and congratulations to the wizard for making it 21 years in charge. He's brought us success beyond our wildest dreams but with that success has come greed and the appauling treatment of the very fans who have ensured his success as a manager; but he's probably too entrenched in his ivory tower surrounded by sycophants to be bothered. To think what has been achieved in 21 years in amazing and it is all down to Sir Alex and the people at the club who had the vision and patience to trust a man who they knew would deliver. But every silver cloud can still rain on you and all that...

You might pass it around well but I can't remember many clear cut chances and both your goals were scrappy. Both our goals were nicely constructed and I can remember a few times when we should of scored.

I went for Nani in the poll, I didn't expect much from him but he has been pretty good in all of his appearances so far.
Your first goal was a Rooney miss hit which hit Gallas.

I think Nani has done really well so far for United. Considering he was thrown into the first team much quicker than expected. Also I had an unmotivated hatred for him but now I think he is a good player with a lot of potential for the club.

Dude what game were you watching?

Arsenal controlled the game throughout while Utd sat back and defended for their lives. Playing 7 players behind the ball for the entire game would suggest that Fregie just didn't fancy going toe to toe.

I'm not frightened to say you have a very talented team but when it comes to playing total football we're in a league of our own.

Controlled the game so well that possession was almost equal and United were the team who created the most chances? Very sloppy defending allowed you to score two goals, and whilst I like watching Arsenal play football I don't believe they're good enough to end this season as champions. The reaction to a home draw said as much. Limiting our supposed main challengers to (aside from two defensive errors) almost no goalscoring opportunities and attacking well enough to always look a threat, and to score twice on the break away from home is a fine achievement. The manner of our display meant that the initial disappointment of conceeding a soft last minute equaliser was soon outweighed by the positives.

I like the way Arsenal play football. I prefer challenging for the title with a side that plays like that, than the defensive approach pioneered by Greece in Euro 2004 and applied to the championship by teams like Liverpool and Chelsea. That being said, I do not believe they are good enough to win the league, and the media wankfest that surrounds these youngsters (United's starting lineup against Villa was about a year younger on average, even including van der Sar) is cringeworthy at best. I can't think of anybody in the Arsenal squad except for Fabregas who would get in United's starting XI.

Like I said, these debates are almost impossible to have without sounding like a letter to Shoot magazine, it was just amusing the way Arsenal celebrated clinching the league trophy on the 3rd of November.

Going by your logic I could say a Rooney miss hit which happened to touch Gallas allowed you to score the first goal, while some brilliant thinking by Almunia allowed you to score the second.

Not at all. The first goal was a good cross and nice movement by Rooney to get in front of Toure and get contact on the ball. However unlucky for it was for Toure, it wasn't the result of poor defending like Arsenal's equaliser. That was the result of Hargreaves and Vidic being caught out of position and a mistake by Evra which allowed Aresenal to square the ball to Fabregas. The second goal was the result of farcical defending all round.

United created the better chances. Giggs should have done better in the first half, and Rooney really should have scored in the second when he misdirected his header. Aside from the Gallas header, United limited Arsenal to long range shots and speculative efforts.

There was many positives United should take from the game, despite the last-minute equaliser. Rooney, Vidic and Anderson played very well, and given the upcoming fixtures, aside from the nature of the equaliser, United should be the side most pleased with the result.

Manchester United centre-half Nemanja Vidic has extended his contract with the club until 2012.

The 26-year-old, whose old deal ran out in 2010, moved to United for £7m from Spartak Moscow in January 2006.

The Serb international was unconvincing initially but did not take long to find his form and helped United clinch the Premier League crown last season.

"Nemanja has made a terrific impact at the club," Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's website.

"He has forged a partnership with Rio Ferdinand that was a major part in us winning the title last year.

"He is an extremely popular member of the squad, both with staff and fans alike.

"It's great news that he wants to be part of this exciting side for years to come."

Vidic was a key presence for United early on this season when he helped the side keep consecutive clean sheets against Tottenham, Sunderland and Everton, with Sir Alex Ferguson's outfit earning three 1-0 wins as they struggled to hit top form in attack.

"Playing in this team is a great privilege," stated Vidic. "This is such a great club, I am delighted to be able to extend my stay here.

"The fans and everyone at the club have been very special to me. I hope I can do my bit to bring the club even more trophies in the years ahead."

Brilliant news obviously, one of, if not, the best performer(s) last season and he just works with Rio so beautifully I couldn't imagine anyone else I would rather have. I just can't help but love the guy, he's the typical no nonsense defender that I wish Rio would be sometimes.

I like his attitude aswell, no problems with the contract. He isn't trying to grab loads of money like some players, he see's it as a privelage to be playing at such a club, it's a shame some players don't see it that way.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is out for up to four weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in training.

The problem also means he misses England's potentially decisive Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia at Wembley on 21 November.

In-form Rooney, 22, has just been named Premier League player of the month for October after scoring eight goals in his last seven games.

England coach Steve McClaren said: "It's hugely disappointing."

He added: "Given the form he has been in and the contribution he has made to England over the last two games means it is a blow.

"But we have to deal with it, like we have dealt with situations like these before.

"It is an opportunity for someone else to come and do a job."

McClaren had just named Rooney in his squad for the friendly against Austria on Friday and the qualifier against Croatia at Wembley on 21 November.

It is the second major injury problem Rooney has suffered this season after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken foot, sustained on the opening day of the campaign against Reading at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have beaten Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for 14-year-old Burnley striker John Cofie and agreed an undisclosed fee with the Clarets.

Burnley rejected a reported £250,000 bid from Liverpool for Cofie this week.

But the German-born Ghanaian refused to return to training with the Clarets and they agreed he could leave Turf Moor.

Burnley have inserted a 25% sell-on clause in the deal, which also gives them first refusal on any loan deal and a future friendly match with United.

It will be three years before Cofie can sign professional terms at Old Trafford and the friendly game will take place within 12 months of that.

Cofie was signed by the Clarets last summer after he was spotted at a youth tournament in Germany.

"The player was unwilling to come back to Burnley so we didn't have a choice in keeping him here," Burnley operational director Brendan Flood told his club's website.

"He was going to go to one of the clubs chasing his signature and in the end, we all felt that Manchester United was the right option.

"He has a good future ahead of him and hopefully we can try and keep youngsters of John's quality at the club in future."

He obviously has some talent but you can never tell if he will make it until he's 17 or 18.

He was sent off for beign a fat cunt. He didn't have the pace to keep up with Tevez after he gave away from the ball so he pulled him back preventing the counter attack. And the second challenge was so late that it wasn't far off being on time for next weeks game.

1994: Schmeichel, Parker, Irwin, Bruce, Pallister, G Neville, Robson, Ince, Keane, Scholes, Kanchelskis, Giggs, Sharpe, Cantona, Hughes, McClair, Dublin.

1999: Schmeichel, G Neville, P Neville, May, Irwin, Brown, Johnsen, Stam, Keane, Scholes, Butt, Blomqvist, Beckham, Giggs, Solskjaer, Cole, Yorke, Sheringham.

2007: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, G Neville, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Brown, O’Shea, Silvestre, Pique, Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Nani, Anderson, Fletcher, Rooney, Tevez, Saha.

They are the three squads they see as the best Fergie has had.

I'm sorry, but some of the current squad couldn't even wipe the boots clean of those in 1999.

mufcsean

I'm not saying it isn't a good squad but i think they have to win something first, the 99 squad was brilliant as was the 94 team, i dont think this squad is quite to that level yet

But Fergie was different Sean.

Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed his current crop of players as the finest he has managed since arriving at Old Trafford 21 years ago.

Manchester United made light of Wayne Rooney's absence through injury at the weekend to record a 2-0 victory over Blackburn that takes them to the Premier League summit.

Cristiano Ronaldo's double was enough to send the United faithful home happy, with Ferguson's side now unbeaten in ten league games.

After what was a somewhat slow start to United's campaign, new boys Anderson, Carlos Tevez and Nani have all begun to find their feet in Manchester; producing some stunning football in the process.

And it is such free-flowing performances that have had the veteran purring as he eyes his tenth title.

Title bid

"I believe this is the strongest squad I've ever had, so much so I think I would be pushed to name my overall best team," he told the Daily Mirror.

"We have young players led by Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo and now joined by the likes of Carlos Tevez, Nani and Anderson.

"This is a good young team coming together and they have great courage in the way they want to play. They want to win something and the signs are good. We have a great chance of doing that this season."

This team has more talent than any other United squad I've seen in my lifetime. Whether they'll be as successful is, of course, impossible to tell.

Also I believe the double-winning side was better than the treble winning team.

Jesus
12-11-2007, 16:29
We already knew that Wan.(see last page)

That's a talented squad we have but the players aren't playing to their full potential. Let them play the sexiest football in England, then we'll talk.;)

I think it'll be pretty hard to compare the team of the current crop with the 1999 side, especially based on the topic whether they would be as succesful.
I have always thought that the 99 team was almost unstopable and i don't think that it was beacause they were any/much better than the current lot, but the quality of the other teams nowdays have evolved alot since 99 whether it's the Premiership or Champions League.

Overall in my opinion, the current 'squad' is definetly stronger and better equiped than the 99 squad.

Fergie reckons this is the best squad he has had in 21 years at united, i think it is a very good squad but thats going a bit far

I only hope the youngsters don't get injured often. That would be negative for their football development.

I saw that news a day or two back (about the Nigerian). He looks like a potentially excellent striker - lighting pace and calm finishing.

Coincidence I watched the Nigerian guy(sort of compilation) on TV yesterday. He looks good, like most of his compatriots(footballers), he's fast. He's got a few tricks up his sleeve too.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both dispatched their scouting network to watch Garay in recent weeks, whilst Real Madrid and Barcelona are also well aware of his progress.

To be honest I've never seen him play. I guess he's good since Barca, Real, Poule and us are looking to sign him.

I've just read that Serbia will play their match on the 24th. I hope Vidic will not get chosen if Portugal wins on Wednesday, as it would be a pointless match.

I just read that it's Manchester United that are interested in Eto'o. It's them that are going to ask for such a swap deal.

Akineye
19-11-2007, 12:32
Haven't heard anything about the Eto'o story, needless to say I wouldn't take it too seriously.

Looks like Vidic could be out for the game against Bolton, he's snowed in at his mams house in Belgrade. I'm a little disappointed he hasn't shovelled the snow away with his bare hands already to be honest.

He'll be out unless Portugal get a point against Finland or global warming continues or something.

mufcsean
19-11-2007, 13:30
Yeah if Portugal get a point against Finland, Serbia's rescheduled game is pointless so hopefully they wont call him up, though it is only Bolton, i'm sure we'll cope without him

Why in the hell would the Serbian FA let Fergie decide?

Because the match has been postponed and rescheduled, meaning it now falls outside what FIFA deem an 'international window' so Vidic needs club authorisation to allow him to play.

Besides, why the hell did he do that anyway? Totally unnecessary.
