Owen Hargreaves may have been limited to half a dozen appearances since his summer arrival from Bayern Munich, but he has already made a huge impression on Reds supporters.

In a Fanzone poll, we asked ManUtd.com readers which summer signing had impressed you most, and Hargreaves came out on top, although Carlos Tevez wasn't far behind.

Tendonitis in his knee has sidelined the 26-year-old for much of the season, but his effervescence and excellent distribution have been a breath of fresh air in the midfield engine room.

He polled 37 per cent of the overall votes in our poll. Tevez, who has also settled remarkably well and has already established an impressive partnership with Wayne Rooney, finished in second place with 32 per cent of the votes.

Anderson and Nani, Sir Alex Ferguson's other summer purchases, have both played more football than they would have expected this term. But both players have proved instantly capable of playing in the United first team as well showing plenty of potential to improve even further.

Nani provides a viable alternative to Ryan Giggs or Cristiano Ronaldo on either flank, while 19-year-old Anderson has - perhaps surprisingly - given his boss a selection problem in central midfield with performances that belie his age.

A new topic for our poll, Do we need to but another striker?

Phatmann

We definitely need another striker, simply because Saha can't stay fit for more than 5 games. Only other striker other than Rooney and Tevez we have is Dong Fangzhuo, who isn't good enough.

Well I think Harry made him as cover for the upcoming African Nations Cup
which Pompey has loss Lauren, Djimi Traore, Papa Bouba Diop, Sulley Ali Muntari, John Utaka, Benjani Mwaruwari, Nwankwo Kanu.

Pompey present striker: John Utaka, Benjani Mwaruwari, Nwankwo Kanu, Dave Nugent

So only Nugent the only one that can play as striker.

Probably because it's such a small place. The students make up 25% of the population of the town apparently. I had a similar experience a few weeks back when I had to wait for an hour and a half at Nottingham for a train to Loughborough which is only a 10 minute journey. Worst thing was my ipod wasnt working, it was freezing cold and the fucking cafe on the station was closed. It was around the same time too; train I got on was 9:15 I think. Basically, no-one wants to go to Loughborough so they don't bother with that many trains there.

5-0 drubbing. I imagine John O'Shea will score this weekend if he plays. I don't know why I think he will score, I just have a feeling he will. Was Ferdinand injured for the England game? cos I'd hate to think what our central defence partnership would be if Vidic had to play for Serbia and Rio was out :|

Basically we miss Ruud for that.

23-11-2007, 16:22
The problem with Saha is that he hasn't yet learned how to control the ball or keep possession effectively. I was starting to come round to the opinion that he was a half-decent player, then he put's in a woeful performance against Blackburn.

Top Gun

Saha needs a run of 10 games or so where he starts to prove if he has what it takes to compete for a place. But the way Rooney and Tevez are playing that just isn't going to happen.

Tevez knows what he wants
----------------------------
Carlos Tevez wants to stay at Manchester United until he is 28, and then quit Old Trafford for Boca Juniors.

The diminutive Argentine has established himself as a United favourite since making the switch from West Ham but his existing deal expires at the end of next season.

Tevez, 23-years-old, has every intention of staying at United beyond his current contract but a return to his homeland, and his boyhood club, remains at the forefront of his thoughts.

Eager not to return to his first club as a 'fatso', Tevez wants to be in his prime for the Boca faithful.

Peak powers

"At 28, I want to be in Boca. I have another year on my contract with Manchester and I could extend it for four years more then return," he told The Sun.

"But I want to return to Boca at my peak not as some fatso. Imagine if you cannot move - they'd scream insults at you. If I return it will be to get stuck in and play!

"But I'd like to stay a few more years in Manchester. They look after me well."

He doesn't to return as a fatso

United get injury boost

Manchester United have received an injury boost with the news that Park Ji-sung, Mikael Silvestre and Ben Foster are all making good progress.

Park has been out for eight months with a cruciate knee ligament injury, but has now returned to full training and could return before the end of the year.

Silvestre sustained a similar problem in September and, while he was initially expected to miss the whole season, is now on course for a return early next year.

Foster, meanwhile, is also out with a knee problem and, having undergone surgery in the summer, could be back as early as Ferbruary.

"Ji is back training and he will almost definitely be playing by the end of December," Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's official website.

"He is doing really well. He may have to wait until the beginning of next year, but he is certainly on the way back. He's doing good training.

"Mikael Silvestre, as we predicted, could be back in March, and Ben Foster is also doing some good work. We expect him to be available in February or maybe March."
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some good news there

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swift return for Rooney

Wayne Rooney could return for United as soon as Monday week when Fulham visit Old Trafford.

The Reds striker scored eight goals in seven games before a training ground accident forced him onto the sidelines.

The initial prognosis signalled that United would be without the influential front man for a month.

But Rooney is a quick healer, and after doing light running on Thursday and Friday this week, should be in contention for the Monday night game on 3 December.

“I think he will be back for the Fulham game, definitely," said the boss.

“He’s doing some running. Somebody reported that they saw him training on Tuesday. That’s some eye sight!

“He started some light running on Thursday and did some good running on Friday.

"Wayne won’t play at Bolton or against Sporting Lisbon, but I would think he'll be available for Fulham."

Rooney scored eight goals in seven games before suffering his injury, and his quick return would be a major fillip ahead of the busy festive schedule.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The time it takes for him to recover from injury is amazing, shame Saha is the complete oppsite

Letting Vidic play for Serbia was also a mistake.

He's injured.

If Ronaldo was rested, he should've been in the bench.

In the positive aspect, Hargreaves looks to be a better free-kick taker than Ronaldo

We always lose against a shit team every year, it's annoying. Bolton are a solid unit under Allardyce, even most top clubs like Arsenal struggle at the Reebok. Not us though, we stick 3 and 4 past them every season at their place. This season, Allardyce has gone, Bolton turn really shit, are in freefall and in the relegation zone and.. we lose. It makes no sense at all.

Last season we lost to West Ham 1-0, after they were by far the worst team in the league at that point. We've lost to Wolves when they went down, Norwich when they went down. EVERY FUCKING YEAR.

I like the way that Arsenal wait until the last ten minutes to score there goals. They play as if the match is a boxing match. The keep punching and punching and then in the last minutes the knock their opponents down.

Stella Artois

Yeah if Portugal get a point against Finland, Serbia's rescheduled game is pointless so hopefully they wont call him up, though it is only Bolton, i'm sure we'll cope without him

Well hopefully he will play but if he doesn't then Pique should be able to step in for him and keep Bolton quiet

Patrice Evra is 'very angry' that Kevin Davies was not sent off and claims the Bolton Wanderers forward deliberately set out to kick him.

Bolton's first win under Gary Megson on Saturday was overshadowed by Manchester United's protestations about the home side's physical approach.

The focus of the first half, in particular, was a running a battle between Evra and Davies, who escaped with a yellow card for one challenge on the United full-back.

The France international was unhappy with Davies' style of play and claims it was a continuation from last season's meeting between the two clubs.

"It was the same last year when Davies kicked me as well," Evra told the Daily Express. "I said to him (in last year's game), 'Why do you do a tackle like that?' And he said, 'Because I don't like you'. I didn't understand it.

Big fight

"Today he did it again. His first tackle on me should have been a red card. I don't know why he does it. I just play my game. I don't know what the problem is with Davies because I don't know him.

"Last year he said, 'You can't take the ball because I don't like you'. It's bizarre. It was a big fight. But his first tackle deserved a red card and I was very angry.

"The captain and the other players said to me, 'You need to concentrate on the game, you must not react to a bad tackle like that'.

"I also spoke to the referee. I said, 'You can't play football like that - this is not a football game'.

"When I play football I do it to play the ball, not to kick somebody. It was a very hard game. I received more tackles in this game than I've had in my entire career.

"I could have been booked for a tackle on Davies, but if you look at the replay I did touch the ball first."

It's just I watched so many games with him playing. Rooney is full of energy, doesn't make any mistakes while keeping the ball. Giggs is kinda old but still got the magic. Nani is going to be brilliant in the near future. Andersson has a bit of edgy mood but is a quality player. Even hargreaves is a versatile midfielder. Whilte tevez ... Good old tevez keeps his tongue sticking out of his mouth and disappears for 75% of the game just to appear in a tap-in ball played by rooney or ronaldo. Now don't tell me that requires good skill and anticipation. IMO Saha is 10 times better if it wasn't for the injuries.

Poor first half last night, we gave the ball away far too many times and i dont think we had a shot on target in the first half either.

I think Sporting's goal was very good, and i think he did mean to do it.

We were very lucky not to go 2 behind, i think Liedson wasn't offside, and we got lucky again for the supposed "Tevez" goal, i think it was an own goal, why did Evra dive that was so stupid and that wasn't the first time he has done it either this season.

:dribble: What a goal by Ronaldo, i was really hoping Hargreaves would take the free kick but WOW, i couldn't stop laughing at his face afterwards, you can understand why every other person who isn't a United fan hates him, but i love him for that.

Miguel Veloso admits he will wait until the end of the season before thinking about a 'sensational' move to Manchester United.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been watched by the Premier League champions, with United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz confirming Veloso is on the club's radar.

An imminent move for the Portugal international is unlikely and Veloso is happy to put his future on hold until next summer.

"My dream is to play in the Premier League and, if possible, for Manchester United," said Veloso in the Daily Mail ahead of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League meeting between the two teams.

Impossible to reject

"That is not a secret, even though I'm 100 per cent a Sporting Lisbon player at the moment.

"I will wait for the end of the season for any solution to what has been happening and see if an offer finally arrives.

"But to play for this club would be sensational. It would be nearly impossible for me to reject this option.

"I've been made aware of the presence of the scouts from United. I am still young and I believe that I will arrive in the Premier League one day."

Competitive

Another Sporting player keen on a move to the Premier League is Leandro Romagnoli, who would be willing to 'listen to offers'.

Romagnoli said: "If an English club was interested and a move works for both myself and Sporting then I would listen to offers.

"For me, the Premier League is the best championship in the world.

"The top players are there and it is more competitive than La Liga, where Real Madrid and Barcelona are the main clubs."
############################## ################

From what i have seen of him, which isn't much i must be honest, he does look good, but i really don't think we need him, we already have Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes (when he comes back), Fletcher, Park, Anderson and O Shea who can play in the central midfield role, i think we really need to concentrate on buying a striker

I voted yes on the poll as i have lost patience with him, he is always injured, then after months of being out he returns for about 6 games, in which he does fuck all, never gains confidence in himself then gets injured again, then does it all over again, we need to sell him and get another striker, who, i don't know but forwards who have impressed me lately are Luis Fabiano, Anelka, Huntelaar, Alves and Piquionne of Monaco

Sauce attack on Reds owners

MEMBERS of the Glazer family were attacked by United fans wielding ketchup as they enjoyed a night on the town.

Reds' directors Bryan and Avi Glazer had their cars splattered in tomato sauce after making a hasty exit from The Restaurant Bar and Grill in the city centre.

The pair are sons of United owner and US tycoon Malcolm Glazer, whose family controversially grabbed the reins at Old Trafford in 2005 amid protests by fans.

The M.E.N. understands that word spread via United fan websites on Thursday night that they were enjoying a night on the town.

A group of disgruntled supporters tracked them down at the John Dalton Street restaurant and waited outside. It is thought that the brothers, who were with two other men, were tipped off about the group's presence.

Witnesses say they were bundled into a waiting Audi car, which sped off towards Deansgate. But the high-powered vehicle was forced to stop at the first set of traffic lights, where the fans pounced.

They hurled verbal abuse before launching the ketchup attack with an industrial-sized bottle. The sauce splattered over the vehicles, but did not hit the brothers. Nobody was harmed in the incident, which the club has dismissed as `a childish prank'.

One of the fans involved said they were trying to highlight discontent at the pair's presence in the city.

He added: "What their family have done to United is a disgrace. They have priced genuine fans out of Old Trafford with ludicrous ticket pricing and policy.

"People who have supported this club for more than 50 years through the bad times can't afford to go any more because of them."

The long-term supporter, who did not wish to be named, said: "We wanted to make a point and embarrass them and I think we did that.

"We certainly did a good job on the car, which was covered. The Glazers have said they will speak to us, but that has never happened.

"What happened is a non-violent action by a group of disgruntled fans."

A club spokesman said: "It's a childish prank. However, we are curious as to where they got the bottle of sauce from - it's not the kind of thing you would carry around."

I know that.

I remember reading something this morning about Neville will not be risked playing a reserve game and will be on the bench on Monday instead.

Glad to hear that Rooney could play on Monday.

Looks like he thought it was because the way he phrased his sentence. Those old storytellers speak like that.

I'll need to stay up until midnight on Monday to watch the game. Sucks.[Time is GMT+4]

You could just try supporting a local team and not being a gloryhunter?

Jesus

Idiot, I'm no glory hunter. Had I been one, I'd be already supporting Arsenal by now. I won't support a local team, I don't live in Europe if you didn't know. The local teams play shite.

No, you should try supporting your local teams.

I've nothing more to say to you. You're a glory hunter and that's all there is to it.

There's a team or two. I'll try do so.

I know what I am. That's the way I am, not a glory hunter. If you think I am one, think so. I couldn't care less now. I've already told you a reason which proves my point. I won't argue anymore.

Yeah, damn my Dad for getting a better paid job requiring him to move from London, eh?

Still, at least I have a reason for supporting Arsenal. Could be like you and choose to support a team when it's successful.

Definitely, but I'm trying to take a more optimistic view nowadays as in the past I have always been very pessimistic before games. Fulham have yet to win an away game but have drawn many, however they are due a thrashing.
