I agree with most of what you said Top Gun.

Hargreaves should really improve his passing to be called a more complete player. Even Carrick is a better passer of the ball than him.
carricks best attribute is his vision and passing.

I'd have to pay probably something like a hundred quid (at least) a time, travel hours there and back, just to see a rancid pile of shit. Sounds enjoyable doesn't it? I might not be a real fan in that sense but I like to consider myself a sensible one. But at least I'm a real fan in that its actually a challenge supporting the team.
Oh yeah, I forgot you're not a local either

It would cost me in the region of £60 just for travel, hence why I haven't been up there for a while (I used to get free travel with Dad working for railway). Just too expensive, especially when saving for a house etc.

Difference is though, Newcastle are fucking shit. My point was about going to games - you could go to games and still be a glory hunting - its just that supporting Man Utd is the easiest thing in the world.

Don't be ridiculous. It's just as 'easy' to profess to being a Newcastle 'fan' who doesn't go to any games.

As for out of town reds, my stance has always been the same. If they understand the club's history and tradition and make it to the occasional game whenever they can... then that's fine. I'm proud of United's support wherever it may come from... and the fact is that for all the tired arguments you can make about 'glory hunting', since WW2 United have always had the best support in the country.

Onto the game... it was a brilliant day all round. Aside from the obvious cutting of Arsenal's lead, seeing Rooney return to goalscoring form and lead his team to decimate a woeful Newcastle side seemingly at will was more than pleasing.

it would cost me around 900quids for a one way ticket ...god knows how much for a ticket from ldn to madchester on the train and around 90quids for a a ticket to a game. Too expensive on my meager pay.

I'll sell you my ticket for the home game against Bolton next month for a far more reasonable price... £85 since we're playing the yonners.

Reports coming out today suggesting we had scouts in Spain watching Luis Fabiano on the weekend. The guy is flying at the moment in Spain, scoring 30 goals since August and apparantly he has an £8m minimum fee release clause in his contract.

He completed an hour before coming off which was because of lack of match fitness, not injury. He was fairly decent according to the site even though they eventually lost 2-0.

Good news about Foster as well, he reckons his recovery is going excellently. But he has said that he won't be playing first team football this season, he wants to concentrate on getting everything sorted before coming back to the first team. He will most likely play in reserve games towards the end of the season.

It's the right approach to take considering this is the second time he has had this injury. On his form with Watford he looks like a future number 1 as I think we all know Kuszczak isn't up to that task on a long term basis.

Wait a minute, are you saying Evra can play right back? Have you ever seen him use his right foot to even touch the ball, cos I certainly haven't. I don't think he'd do well as a regular right back, or even as a one-off right back.

Lahm, Maicon (doubtful), Sagnol, Miguel to name a few.

Top Gun
28-02-2008, 22:33
There are few right backs around who you would consider world class. Ramos would be perfect but it's not going to happen, Lahm and Alves will both be way too expensive, Miguel is a good shout but he could be quite expensive and I can't see Maicon happening. Sagnol looks like a good short term option if he's not going to be £6m which I saw thrown around in January.

Ferdinand should sign up quite quickly as he has no reason to leave seeing as it looks like he will be the next captain.

mufcsean
29-02-2008, 00:15
I have no worries about Ferdinand not re-signing.

Evra, Right-back? When? What? Where? and most importantly HOW? I can honestly say that wouldn't work, he never, ever touches the ball with his right foot.

I think we are ok for LB's we have Evra and as somebody mentioned O' Shea is good cover there. so i would focus on getting a right-back, who i don't know though :/

I read today that we were interested in Carlos Kameni, he is a very good keeper but i really don't see the point, we already have VDS til next year, Foster to return, Kuszczak who is good and Heaon in reserve. We shouldn't need to spend what was reportedly around £8m  on a keeper.

Opposition defenders beware: Louis Saha is ready to vent his frustration at another season disrupted by injury.

The 29-year-old striker scored his first goal in 2008 in the 5-1 win over Newcastle, and Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson immediately highlighted the powerful frontman as a key figure in the hunt for trophies.

Saha’s fellow countryman, Patrice Evra, strongly agrees and says his team-mate has plenty of pent-up anger to expend.

“We’ve got Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, but we need one more striker to win trophies this season,” he told ManUtd.com.

“Louis is the right guy for that job. In training he has been unbelievable. He looks sharp, strong and, most importantly, angry. You can see it in his eyes. He wants to do well. Louis is back.

“He has a strong mentality because he has suffered quite a few injuries, but he’s still here and wants to do well. Now I hope his injuries are behind him. We need Louis Saha if we are going to win trophies this year. That’s why everyone in the squad was really happy when he scored against Newcastle.”

Saha could come up against his former club Fulham at the weekend, and will be hoping he can add to last weekend’s strike to keep the pressure on league leaders Arsenal.

“We have got two really important games against Fulham and Lyon,” adds Evra. “If we can play with the same energy as we did against Arsenal in the FA Cup and Newcastle in the league then we have a strong chance of winning both matches and setting us up to do well until the end of the season.”

The stage is set for him to get injured in the first 5 minutes of the Fulham game. If he's looking as good as we're told then he's a handful for any defence as he has pretty much everything a striker needs.

mufcsean
01-03-2008, 03:05

Somebody who is starting to annoy me lately is Evra, he keeps committing silly fouls, but the thing that annoys me most is his need to make sure the ball and his right foot never make contact, he would much rather put the ball out of play with his left than try and get it under control with his right. His crossing and passing is also slipping.

Brown played quite well against Lyon on Tuesday, so hopefully he can reproduce performances like that regularly in the prem.

Probably one of his best performances of the season. Shame he's not consistent enough... maybe £65K a week would improve his game :shifty:

Foster completed the 90 mins as our reserves beat Boro reserves 2-1. Their goal was a penalty and Foster was hardly tested.

Predictions for the FA Cup game against Pompey on the weekend? 2-1 United win for me. I had tickets to go to the game but it's my mums birthday so I can't go

I expect to see Hargreaves and Scholes in the middle as neither played against Lyon. Playing with Hargreaves, Scholes should be able to push on more and do what he used to do best. Tevez should be pretty fresh too and will hopefully play with Rooney up top.

I think it will end up being pretty close as Pompey are a good side. Probably 1-0 to us.

Akineye
07-03-2008, 10:16
I'm predicting a comfortable win. We always seem to batter them when they come to OT.

Speaking of spare tickets, I have two that I can't seem to get rid of due to being forced into buying them as a result of the ridiculous ACS in place this year. Not only that, whereas my season ticket used to guarantee a ticket for any quarters/semis/finals that United may happen to get to, now it looks like that because of the huge number being forced into the ACS, a ST only gives you a CHANCE of a ticket to one of those games.

So if anybody needs a ticket for tomorrow... yer know... or alternatively call the club... cause I can't see Pompey bringing 5000 up to OT on a Saturday lunchtime when the games on Sky.

Bloke I work with just took them off my hands at lunch. The only reason I mentioned it was cause I remember for the Arsenal game they went back on sale very late since Arsenal sent back about 3000 tickets because they couldn't sell them... I guess Pompey asked for less than 5000 though.

No one whinges as much as Viperized, but you are probably as fickle as he is. I mean, after Man City beat United, you went in the Arsenal thread congratulating them for winning the title, when there was plenty of games to play. Also when United drew with Boro at home last season, you was saying Chelsea was going to win the title, when you still led the league.

United lose, you complain and then think it is the end of your season.

I feel the same, but cheated more in the sense that we probably deserved to win the game today, rather than cheated by poor refereeing decisions. Just wasn't our day today, got no luck at all. Sir Alex Ferguson's rant yesterday was a well calculated move by him. This will put enormous pressure on referee's officiated United games in the coming weeks particularly at Old Trafford. The slightest body push on a United player in the penalty area will be deemed as a foul and multiple players will be sent off. I'm fearing for the worst for the harmless Derby team that will be on the receiving end next weekend.
Here's the list of coming up United games and where the mind game will play a crucial part.

Saturday, 15 March 2008
Barclays Premier League
Derby v Man Utd, 15:00This will be the beginning of United's mind game tactics. Expect atleast a penalty to United.

Wednesday, 19 March 2008
Barclays Premier League
Man Utd v Bolton, 20:00Kevin Davies will be sent off and I expect another player like Diouf to be sent off. Easy for United they'll slaughter Bolton. Expect soft freekicks in Ronaldo territory.

Sunday, 23 March 2008
Barclays Premier League
Man Utd v Liverpool, 13:30This is where it'll all count. I'm fearing for the worst for Jamie Carragher. He'll be penalised for fouling Rooney in the area and United will convert the only chance in the game.

Sunday, 30 March 2008
Barclays Premier League
Man Utd v Aston Villa, 13:30To balance the books, the refs will try to be neutral, though petty decisions will go against us Villa. Expect our goals to be offside and Carew headers to be fouls. Reo Cocker will be booked though.

Sunday, 06 April 2008
Barclays Premier League
Middlesbrough v Man Utd, 13:30Typical United game. Ref will be highly biased. Ronaldo dive expected. Though they'll win the game, Fergie will renew his mind game rants with Arsenal game coming up!

Barclays Premier League
Man Utd v Arsenal, 16:00I predict a draw. Arsenal will be disgusted by the ref though, but Wenger starting a mind game will be too late.

Chelsea v Man Utd, 15:00Knowing Grant too well, he'll play Mikel and the boy won't last 10 minutes. Evra will be on the receiving end and he'll roll over like he's been shot!

Barclays Premier League
Wigan v Man Utd, 15:00This will be the game that will decide whether Wigan survive and knowing Fergie well, he'll slaughter Bruce's team for Bruce has been doing business with Wenger of late e.g Loaning Arsenal players!
Outcome, United will win the league but Arsenal will have won the people's mind.

What are your views?Because i havent been following football from a long time is this article about fergie pressure true

I agree that Fergie can moan at the referee every now and then, but in this case he had a fair argument.

Boro 2 down at home!?

Oh I beg to differ. Besides that one penalty incident, I can't remember any others which justified the comment of, "Portsmouth knew the ref was on their side."

And Queiroz's comment of how, "the Taylors of the game are allowed to survive" was absolute bollocks, as the only bad tackle in the game was Rooney's on Kranjcar, which was actually worse than Taylor's.

With Arsenal's draw we'll go first with a gain in hand. The weekend hasn't turned out as bad as it could. No other big four will win the cup and we're in the driving seat for the league again (if we win all our games). Also the lack of FA cup could re-focus the team on the league just as we need it. I also think an English team will win the champ league this year; those to say it can't be us?

We really should go top now, our game in hand is the Bolton home game really, we have Derby next weekend which i really cant see anything other than 3 points, then Bolton during the week at home, which again should be 3 points, during that time Arsenal play Boro at home, so hopefully Boro can nick something off them

How possibly could it be worse when he didnt make contact with the player? and he didnt brake his leg or whatever Eduardo has done.

Rooney wasn't going for the ball, Taylor was.

Just because Taylor's tackle caused a horrendous injury does not mean it is the worst tackle this season. Ricardo Carvalho on Howard yesterday, and on Agbonlahor this season were both much worse, for example, but neither of them caused an injury, fortunately.

Yeah, I'd agree with both your comments made. I mean it's clear the officiating wasn't diabolical although we should have had a penalty, I think everyone knows that Ronaldo's reputation now gos against him. But all Fergie is doing is playing mind games, I'd find it difficult to believe he was being truly serious with his rant unless he was just frustrated from being knocked out of the Cup.

Liverpool fans. Over here, they are laughing that we got knocked out by Portsmouth, at home. Well, at least we didn't get beaten by a Championship side, at home.

They give sorts of excuses and the one that I find most amusing is Liverpool doesn't care about the FA Cup

I certainly don't give a fuck about it. This weekend could turn out to be one of the defining moments in the season. Arsenal allowing us to go top and the loss to Pompey preventing at a bare minimum 3 more needless games and the unwelcome expenditure of at least one trip to Wembley. Now we can concentrate on what's important. Of course the manner in which we lost was disappointing, but once the feeling of daylight robbery subsides I think reds are left with the positive that more energy and cash can be spent on winning what really matters.

Well he was playing in the African Cup Of Nations then when it finished he moved to Greece where it was snowing and they were having games called off because of it. So he was just having problems with the blood circulation in his feet and couldn't train.

That clip was from his debut which was 2 days ago, he hadn't played since the ACN.

Evans escapes charges

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans will not face charges over an alleged rape at the team's Christmas party.

Greater Manchester Police said the decision was taken after they presented evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service.

A statement read: "Greater Manchester Police gathered the evidence and compiled the case file for the Crown Prosecution Service.

"The CPS has now taken the decision to take no further action against the 19-year-old man arrested following an incident at a city centre hotel on Tuesday, December 18, 2007."

Evans, who is currently on loan at Sunderland, was arrested after a woman made an allegation of rape at the team's Christmas party at the Great John Street hotel.

Police were called to the hotel at 4.15am on 18th December last year after receiving a complaint.

Evans, who has won nine caps for Northern Ireland, was arrested later that evening and then released on police bail.

A statement from the CPS said there was 'insufficient evidence' to charge Evans.

Jonny Evans won't be charged for rape, good news.

Saha might be available again tomorrow after he had to pull out of the Pompy game with yet another knee injury

Rio was set to start but picked up a slight back injury. Foster made some good saves to keep us in the game when it was still 0-0. He was probably the only bright point from the game, apart from being able to grind out the 3 points when it isn't clicking.

Lord Shrimpeh
16-03-2008, 01:10
We were pretty poor and really deserved a draw. Not sure why but hopefully just a minor blip we got over. I think we were missing Tevez. Cristiano tried hard though even if it wasn't quite working for him (apart from the goal) and foster looking excellent so I'm excited about seeing him more. When's Van De Sar back? I think Foster could do with a few games and we could see how good he really is.

mufcsean
16-03-2008, 01:14
Not a good performance today, good to see Foster making some very good saves though, as they pointed out on MOTD he got off to a bit of a shit start, his kicking was awful. All in all, we really need to buck up our performances, Arsenal have drawn their past 4 and their next game is away at Chelsea, if we can beat Bolton we go 3 points clear, and hopefully Arsenal won't beat Chelsea and we will beat Liverpool.

Still remains to be seen as to whether Neville will return on Wednesday against Bolton, hopefully he will play some part, especially if Rio is still out.
