Hopefully we can actually beat West Ham for once. Luckily they've just pissed away a two goal lead against Newcastle (ironically), so hopefully they go on to lose so their confidence is knocked and Newcastle's is increased.

Bit gutted with the result today, but Chelsea deserved the win and it is still in our hands. I hope Rooney doesn't miss too many games as we usually do badly when he's not in the team. How long is Vidic out for?

They had more possesion, but clear cut chances? Possession doesn't mean someone deserves to win, as Barca showed.
I've seen those penalties NOT given, but I'm not gonna say it wasn't a penalty, because it was.
How Ballack got away with stopping Ronaldo on one of our corners is beyond me :erm:
No but they had more chances than we did so I think that does mean they deserved to win. Our only real chances were the two at the end as far as I can recall. Joe Cole at least could have had a couple. If you set out for nil-nil you deserve to lose in my opinion. I hate those negative tactics and they fail as often as they work (maybe even more often).

Everyone makes mistakes including SAF and besides, Queiroz isn't that old and I'm sure he had influence over the tactics.

Lol, sometimes you have to just accept defeat and stop being a child about it.
You were extremely lucky to be gifted the ball by Carvahlo to Rooney 20 yards out with just the keeper to beat for your first goal and before that you had barely even come close to threatening us properly - while we had piled on countless pressure, breaks, and made so many more chances. I'm in shock that you're even debating that.
Anyways, I shall probably be cheering you on Tuesday. I'm not too fussed, I'm more of a neutral but it's nice to have an all-English final in Europe. Let's hope you are prepared to play an open game from a neutral p.o.v.

Manchester United players were involved in a post-match fracas with Chelsea ground staff after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Patrice Evra, Gary Neville, Park Ji-Sung and Paul Scholes were warming down after the fixture when a row ensued with the ground staff tending to the pitch.
A Chelsea spokesman told reporters: "We will be studying the CCTV footage of the incident and take whatever action is appropriate."
After the game, United defender Rio Ferdinand told reporters he had apologised to a steward after accidentally kicking her following Michael Ballack's late penalty winner.
Ferdinand kicked out at a brick wall as he walked off the pitch but also made contact with the female steward.
"Unfortunately, a lady was standing by and I accidentally brushed her with my foot. I apologised profusely and went back to make sure she was okay," he said.
"I have arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be sent to her.
"Credit to her, she laughed it off and was very understanding. She said she wasn't hurt."

Gallas acted like a spoilt kid on a number of ocassions, and didn't even have the balls to apologise. It turns our Rio did (and it was an accident), so what's the problem? You should have been docked points for the Keown incident, but weren't so it's swings and roundabouts.

Lahm refuses to extend his contract (runs until summer 2009) so I think they'll be eager to sell him after this season.

Didn't you hear? Arsena; stood a chance of winning it if we both lost and drew are final two games, if pigs fly and if Arsene Wenger actually sees an incident that reflects negatively on his team!
West Ham were actually the better team for long spells of the game. We were lucky not to conceed a penalty too, as I couldn't really see a push on Brown.
Nani deserved to go, just like I thought about Cousin on Thursday. Didn't like Neill reacting like he was shot (like Liverani did too), but then again Nani also acted like a fool by hitting the deck. Would like to see incident again to see what made Nani do what he did, as knowig the kind of scum Lucas Neill is it must have been something.
OVerall chuffed with the 4-1, as we didn't really deserved it, and on another day West Ham's play could have earnt them a draw if they'd defended a bit better.
Also glad Wigan are definately safe, but then again barring a hammering from Chelski and a big win from Reading so are Bolton. So I guess, COME ON YA GEORDIES!

Heh, no idea why you have a Newcastle avatar. If you don't manage to beat a Wigan side with nothing to play for (and a manager who would probably like to see Fergie win the Prem), you don't deserve to win the title anyway.
I've kind of lost hope now tbh, Bruce is a cunt and probably won't really give two fucks about actually trying to win (or not lose), same goes for the Wigan players. Ah well, as long as there's a chance, we can do it! All we can do now is win our remaining games (preferably by 20 goals but meh). Didn't you hear? Arsena; stood a chance of winning it if we both lost and drew are final two games, if pigs fly and if Arsene Wenger actually sees an incident that reflects negatively on his team!
I mean why does he care when the last time United were given a card at Old Trafford - he goes around in every club thread asking random questions that I'm sure he doesn't give half a shit about.
And yeah, that Brown handball was the most blatant penalty I've seen in my life.

You mean a Wigan side that drew with you? So you don't deserve to win it? Nah, I agree they will play differently as they're already safe and Brucie's obv connections with the club, but at the same time there's no pressure on them which could result in them playing well. I know we should beat them, and SAF SHOULD play his strongest 11 as the game will be for the title and there'll be like 10 games until the CL final, but it's SAF; I'd never try to guess which team he's gonna put out nowadays!

I'm just glad yous no longer have Eidur, as he was the one who always seemed to do the business against us.
I remember when him and Robben came on as substitutes in the Carling Cup (I think). Eidur scored in the first half of extra time. Then Robben made a great run (which was worthy getting a boner from) and finished off nicely.

I agree. If we don't I'll be devasted but not bitter because in the end us and Chelsea are both playing crap teams, it's a shoot out so if we fail its our fault. I'm pretty sure we'll win though perhaps with a tense and nervy 3-1.

Erm, what? If they didn't give 110% it would be a farce anyway. They were always going to field a competetive team against you and obviously give their all as it's their last home game and Bruce would get shit loads of stick for the integrity of the league if he didn't.

I'd see it as a chance to give a few players a well deserved rest, as I would assume he's had to play the same 11 or so players throughout the season.
If they're expected to give 110% why does every person from Chelski keep reminding them that they need to? From Ballack, to Cole to the tea-lady. Terry saying they've worked too hard all season to get this far got me. They shouldn't be relying on Wigan to win them the league, as they've dropped points in games where they really shouldn't have, so that comment was a bit random for me.

Every neutral is saying the same too though, it has been the same with teams down relegation battle. How will reminding them to give 110% help Wigan anywho? They'll know what they need to do so I don't see how it'll "pay off for them" because of it...
Why would you want to rest your star players against Manchester United on the LAST GAME OF THE SEASON where after that they have months of rest? They are still playing for pride and I'm sure the Wigan fans will want the win against United in their last home game to top off a comfortable season as much as we do.
vanNistelrooy
07-05-2008, 18:40
What I'm trying to get across is if a player or two is carrying a niggle (say key players like Valencia and Kirkland). As Wigan are now safe you'd expect him to let them have the day off if they were playing say West Ham, who have nothing to play for. But if he does it against United, who are clearly chasing the title, he'll get ripped for it even if it's legit, so may find himself playing players he'd like to rest?
Either way, I'm not confident and I'm not happy that everyone is telling Bruce how to do his job all of a sudden. If there's no questioning his approach why are people doing it? No one's telling Bolton to hold out for a draw against you lot?
Keyser Soze
07-05-2008, 18:53
People expect the same from Bolton and I'm sure they'll oblige. It's just going to Stamford Bridge, they wouldn't expect a result full-stop; where-as Wigan probably would hope for one at home. No-one is saying Bruce should field injured players, they are basically just saying 'don't take the piss'.
Why does it bother you so much though? It shouldn't affect how you perform and if you can't beat Wigan because they are trying too hard for your liking then you shouldn't win the league anyway. Now good day to you, sir. :coffee:

We don't necessarily need Rooney to beat them (I'd rather save him for the Champions League final), No disrespect to Wigan. As long as we play our football we should win. We have enough experienced players to not let the occasion get to them.

If Wigan or Bolton rest players that's their choice. If this fixture had been a month ago no one would have cared. I expect the players to try because they should always have a go for their fans but if they choose to rest players that's their own business. Also you can perhaps forgive them for playing below par seeing as its the last game of the season and they're safe. Chelsea shouldn't expect Wigan to do their job for them.

In a game such as this (in that we are playing a smaller side of the league, rather than a game of this importance), I'm usually neither nervous nor confident leading up to it.
How United start is always pivotal and is a quick indicator of whether it'll be comfortable or a nail-biter. Last week was similar, and in that particular case we started with a very early goal making it a fairly easy affair. From memory, I think we've only once slipped up after scoring early on this season, and that was Boro away.
So really, if we can get an early goal, or any sort of lead going into half time then I'd be very confident for the second period. If Wigan are holding us at that stage then I'll be shitting bricks, despite 45 mins left. :/
I don't think this will be a game where we snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. We'll either walk over them, or fail.
As long as it's Carrick and Scholes in the middle of the park we should be fine.
Edit: The poll should have Evra and Carrick in it instead of Tevez and Vidic, imo.

'Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy at Manchester United and is considering leaving this summer, with Real Madrid "waiting with open arms"'. - Spanish sports paper Marca
hahahaha
and calderon is going to offer 63Million quids for him. Im sure ruud will be happy to see his face again.
So are the United fans confident about Sunday? For me (and I assume most neutrals), it'll be real dissapointing to see you absolutely white-wash them. I'm looking forward to shitting myself during the game with one eye on the game and the other on the scoreboard for updates - so I hope it's relatively close whatever happens.
Yah, that whole 'I-don't-give-a-shit' persona doesn't rub off with me.
A cricket score win will do me nicely thank you very much.
In all seriousness, I don't buy all of this 'United have been the best team so they deserve to win it' . Whoever wins tomorrow will have been the best team. Chelsea may not have been the most exciting or attacking side, but the team that wins the league is the best team that year. End of.
As for the match itself, omens are good. A nice relaid pitch which will hopefully suit our game, and the support of around 10 000 United fans according to Dave Whelan. With Wigan fans selling their tickets for the last home game of the season for up to around £400, it's amusing how United's support supposedly DOES comes from Manchester when it's convenient.
I hope Park starts ahead of Giggs, as when Giggs and Scholes both start we seem to be missing a lot of legs. Bad news about Rooney only being fit enough for the bench, but we should still have enough quality in that side to beat Wigan. Anyway it should be an ace day. Know plenty of reds who are travelling without tickets due to the apparent ease of buying one from a Wiganer up there. Roll on 3 o'clock and our cup final, and good luck to the Chelsea fans on here too. May the best team win.

Isn't 8-1 technically a bigger win than 7-0??
.:jester:.
11-05-2008, 17:20
no because 8-1 is technicaly the same as 7-0 but because derby didnt score, 7-0 would be classed as a bigger win.

Did Giggs lift the trophy? I think I remember Neville once said in an interview/TV show, a few years back, that the club captain should lift the trophy, even if he's been out most of the season.

Yeah he did and deservedly I think. Garry is a great captain or could be but he's just too injury prone. Giggs has been there all season and on his record equalling appearance and given his service to the club he deserved to. It'll be Scholes and Gary Neville's night another night. For Scholes maybe in Moscow.

It's always Liverpool's turn next season
Was it true that Bruce jumped for joy when Giggs scored?
Doubtful. He was very proffessional and sent Wigan out in the right way. He seemed pretty cheesed off in the post match interview as well about the penalty and foul. I didn't see him do anything like that.

Nev said he's considering giving the captaincy to Rio next season so he can concentrate solely on getting back to full fitness.

Just adding fuel to the flame that there was no football before '92 iyam. well its mean feat in itself, but even at 17 we'd still have only one star.
They had the awards ceremony last night, Ronaldo got Player of the Year, Players Player and Goal of the Season for the Pompey freekick. Danny Welbeck got Youth Player of the Year. Can't really argue.

January transfer window.
What's the big deal about Richards being in Manchester anyway? He does play for Man City.
I honestly believe that United have had a fair bit of luck the last two seasons. I know im clutching at straws and sounding bitter but if we had a fully fit squad for the majority of the season we would have won the league.
We've hardly played with our preffered back 5 (Cech included) and I think that played a huge factor in our performances.
