Carrick and Hargreaves are fit and will be involved.
Gerrard and Torres are on the bench.
Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Skrtel, Alonso, Mascherano, Riera, Benayoun, Keane, Kuyt. Should we be worried?
EDIT: Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Rooney, Scholes, Carrick, Anderson, Tevez, Berbatov.
I'm looking forward to see how Berbatov fit's into the team.
I'll throw my original 1-0 prediction out the window then if they are the teams, I'll say 2-0 to us with Rooney and Berbatov being the goalscorers.

Well that was probably the worse second half I've seen from United in a long time. There was absolutely no fight, no ideas and no skill on show. I hope SAF wheels out the hairdryer and gives them a right good bollocking. Seems like Liverpool just had more desire and we were too lazy and complacent. They deserved to win.
I'd have thought we would have kicked on after the goal but we just seemed to sit back and say, fuck it we've done our job. You certainly don't do your job after 3 minutes at Anfield.
The Vidic red card made me very happy, as it means that he will be suspended for the game next week at the Bridge.
Wouldn't mind to see you play Rooney on the right next week as well.

Gutted with the result. Van der Sar & Scholes were very poor. Both goals could've been avoided if it wasn't for the stupid mistakes. We didn't have any width at all! One of the 3 strikers should've been in the bench today.
I'd play Wes on the centre with Hargreaves at right back for the Chelsea match.

Aye, we're gonna be in trouble if Rooney plays on the right against you lot. I guess Tevez would probably do a better job in that position but I'd prefer him to be playing in a more central role.
Ferdinand was the only player who I thought had a decent game today; Scholes looked miles off the pace and Van Der Sar and Giggs made silly mistakes. Got a lot of bad luck today - I thought the Vidic sending off was harsh - but considering the luck we've had against Liverpool in the past, I can hardly complain too much.

Actually, it's the way you end your season which is more crucial. ;)
I'd be more worried about how you're going to fit all these attacking players into the team myself.
When Ronaldo comes back, does Rooney go to the left, or do you go back to 4-4-2 or what? Let's hope if fucks up your season. :D
Where was Berbatov today?

I didn't mean the first 4 games specifically, but in general the "start" to the season, which could probably be classed as the first 10 games.
After 3 games last season, you only had 2 points, this season you have 4, so it is actually a better start, than your double winning season.
But we also were poor in the first 10 games or even more last season. We seem to be considerably better this season though, and last season you only beat us by 2 points.
It is still very early in the season, but don't think that everything will go your way as it did last season. Teams are a lot stronger now and they are some better managers as well.

Michael Carrick is likely to miss Wednesday's Champions League clash with Villarreal after injuring his right ankle at Anfield.
The midfielder was hurt in a tackle with Yossi Benayoun in the first half of the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool and was substituted at half-time. He reappeared in the United dug-out after the break on crutches and with his right foot in a cast.
Sir Alex confirmed that nothing is broken, but said further assessments on the player's ankle would continue over the weekend.
"It’s not serious. We’ve had an X-ray and nothing is broken," the manager told MUTV.
"There was a hard tackle on him and we’ll probably have a better assessment over the weekend, but I don’t think he’ll be ready for Wednesday."
United are already without the suspended Paul Scholes for the Group E opener against the Spaniards, but Cristiano Ronaldo may feature after making a quicker-than-expected recovery from ankle surgery.

I think our line up was to attacking yesterday...we did it against Zenit aswell playing Scholes and Anderson in the middle, its like when Carrick came off we replaced him with Giggs. We need some kind of defensive midfielder in there, you can't go to places like Liverpool and play all attacking players in the middle...
The Vidic red card made me very happy, as it means that he will be suspended for the game next week at the Bridge.
Does that mean Terry will be missing too?
I didn't think we could play worse than we did against Zenit, but I was sadly wrong.
Rooney on the right was an awful decision, as he had no influence on the game whatsoever.
Does that mean Terry will be missing too?
Yes. We are appealling the red card though and I think there is a good chance that it will be downgraded to a yellow card.
If the red card stands, then the FA is a joke.

Kuszczak extends United stay
http://img.skysports.com/08/09/800x600/kuszczaktomasz_1199105.jpg
Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has agreed a two-year extension to his contract.
Kuszczak initially moved to Old Trafford on loan from West Brom in 2006 before making the switch permanent last summer.
He proved a reliable deputy for Edwin van der Sar and impressed sufficiently to earn a new deal that ties him to the club until 2012.
The 26-year-old Poland international has made no secret of his desire to become Sir Alex Ferguson's first-choice keeper, although he has had to settle for a place on the substitute's bench so far this season.
He is delighted to have been handed an extension but has vowed to continue to progress over the coming years.
Support
"For the club to offer me an extension when I still have two years left shows the trust and support that I have from the club and Sir Alex Ferguson," said Kuszczak.
"I am so happy as I have had a great time so far but there is still so much to prove and I want to continue working hard to ensure my position within this great team."
Ferguson added that he was thrilled to have secured the future of a player he rates highly.
The United boss said: "We always like to sit down with all our young players as we want to look ahead and protect our future.
"Top goalkeepers are hard to find and I believe we have three of the best here and by securing Tomasz's future we can consolidate ours."

Looks like Ronaldo will play a part on Tuesday against Villarreal.

To be honest, if Ben Foster was fit I'd have him ahead of Kuszczak but I guess Van Der Sars age and Foster being injury prone makes Kuszcak a vital part of our squad. I don't have any confidence when he starts in goal for us though.:(

It is good news as this is VDS last season and we have Foster who seems to be the most likely to replace him but he always seem to be injured, so to have 2 fairly young talented keepers is good.

I still have confidence in VDS. It was a huge error but the guy still pulls out top class saves and his kicking with both feet and his positioning - usually - are both excellent. I know that VDS has the ability to play well against the big teams, which I don't think is the case with Kuszczak. I would not be happy with Kuszczak as our number 1 keeper.

It's probably only because he's black.
Not sure but he looked almost out of it when he was taking that throw in against Liverpool. Think the linesman stopped the game temporarily as he was dizzy or something, so it seems very possible. Better safe than sorry mind, can't see Fergie wanting Evra to head the ball with a concussion. Manchester United keeper Ben Foster has suffered a fresh injury blow, injuring his ankle in a reserve team game.
Foster, who missed most of last season following cruciate ligament surgery, limped off in the second-half of United's 0-0 draw with Blackburn.
The 25-year-old England international also missed the start of the current campaign with a knee injury.
Foster had been tipped to challenge United number one Edwin Van der Sar who has had a shaky start to the season.
Van der Sar made at a crucial error in United's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool last week.
The former Dutch international was also at fault for Newcastle's goal on the opening game of the season.

Tomas is only decent as a shot stopper, as the goal we conceeded shows.
How we had 7 players booked is beyond me? Joe Cole not getting booked for his foul on Rio, shows how shit the ref was.
Although I guess a draw isn't that bad, considering Keyser thought we'd get hammered.
Ronaldo coming on for Scholes screwed up the formation. He should have replaced Berbatov, then maybe O'Shea for Scholes.

Being nutmegged and skinned by talentless defenders would be suitable punishment.
Too many wasted chances today, Rooney and Rio should have both scored. Berbatov and Rooney showed glimpses of a partnership but these were fleeting and Berbatov was nowhere in the second half. It was a decent performance though. Evra has been our best player so far this season and Hargreaves looked pretty good today. I thought Evans did pretty well considering he has little experience of this sort of game.

In his programme notes, which were written last week, Sir Alex Ferguson suggested the Angolan would miss out due to a foot injury.
However, Ferguson's assistant Mike Phelan claimed Manucho would be in a 20-man squad for the cup tie.
There will also be the usual scattering of youngsters, although young Brazilian Fabio Da Silva misses out, having been forced to undergo a shoulder operation.

Possebon is 19 and Anderson is 20, but when Anderson was 19 he was already a well known player where as Possebon isn't. But that is not to say Possebon won't be great, he just isn't as big as Anderson or Denilson, i however do not particularly rate Lucas so.......

There was indeed contact. However, the actual movement of Ronaldo's leg proves he went down when he didn't need to, irrespective of the momentum argument. Watch that clip very very closely.
Still, if he didn't appeal then that tells you something as well.

About 50% of the players don't need to go to ground after contact but they do. The sad fact is if you don't go to ground the chances are the referee won't give you the decision. But as you say, Ronnie didn't appeal, I think even he knew it was a great tackle.

Never a penalty. Normally I'd chastize Ronaldo for diving (God knows how I want to) but it's hard to see if his right foot gets stuck in the tackle. I think the referee is the one to blame here more than Ronaldo though.

It's the same with Nani every week, just does not have an end product, and most of the time he doesn't look like he is bothered that he is frustrating the rest of the team.
Like when Nani broke down the left wing in the second half and Ronalod was clear through the middle, Nani kept running until his touch, as always let him down, and Ronaldo was going mad, but Nani just didn't give a fuck.

Nani is quite possibly the most frustrating player I've ever seen. Towards the back end of last season my main gripe with him was that he took too many shots and in general made wrong decisions when team-mates were in better positions.
I'd hoped the break over the summer and in pre-season he would learn from his mistakes, but it just seems to be getting worse.
He scored a couple of cracking goals from around 25 yards last season, but it's a shame he only scores one in every 385 attempts. I wouldn't mind betting that he'd probably finish the season with one of, if not THE most assists if he actually passed instead of took the shooting option more often.
