I just got a ps3 and I got an old CRT tv which sucks. So I was wondering if I can connect my ps3 to my computer screen it's 19 inch samsung mastersync widescreen which is very good imo, thing is it's got 2 ports on the back: one is the normal wire and the other is for HDCP. I went to Virgin today and asked if they got an HDMI cable for my ps3 and they told me it's worth 25 pounds which is a lot IMO and I don't even know if it's going to work on my monitor. What is the difference anyway between HDMI and HDCP and all those abbreviations? I am really confused. Also will it make much difference? I mean I can add a little money and get a new game for example. Thank you.

Can you give a link to your TV model?

http://www.gefen.com/kvm/support/dvihdmi.jsp

A DVI port differs from a HDMI port so a HDMI cable won't work on your monitor.

You can find them cheaper. You just need to have a separate audio cable if you choose to get that.

I wouldn't put a great deal of money on that being significantly superior (if at all) to your 19" CRT.

well i got a 30" CRT, which is the tv in my room, but that one is my computer monitor so i was looking for quality instead of size. It looks like it doesn't make much difference. And God btw, at virgin they used to have a hdmi-XX port which the xx is hdcp or something else i am not quite sure. I am just not familiar with all the names and abbreviations.

I don't think you need to worry about the HDCP, it's just a standard "key" encoded into the DVI signal to prevent video data from being pirated. You'll just need a HDMI - DVI connection.

Don't quote me on this as I'm not an expert.

not storage , the amount it can transfer or something.

Oh do you perhaps mean the RATE at which the transfer happens?

I think that's what he meant. But is there noticable difference so I should go buy one?

Definitely buy one. I hooked up my 360 via Component and it just isn't the same.
