cd-drive error: need help

My Cd drive doesnt seem to want to read discs. I noticed this problem a few days ago.

I tried playing Football Manager 2007 on it, and it wouldn't read. I then decided to watch some family guy off a dvd, and it worked. I today have tried several discs and none of them work, yet dvd's do

My only assumption is that maybe the laser used to read cd's is crewed(it's a combi drive) and that the dvd laser is fine.

Does anyone have any insight to offer me?

You are correct that the laser that reads cd is probably no longer functioning. The best way to test this is to try a cd that does not require an Operating system. If you have a bootable cd such as Windows, Linux or any other bootable cd; just try to boot from it.
Remember to configure your boot order in the bios or press F12 when you first turn on the PC.
