Bit high but not dangerous. My motherboard is constantly 48-51 and my CPU 43 idle and 53 at load which I'm annoyed with as I'm not even overclocking. You could always get a case fan if you're worried, it'll help a little bit but your temperature isn't too bad.
Well i've got space for another fan - it can't hurt adding one when I can get around to it.
Thanks

My processor (and GPU, for that matter) temps regularly get into the 80 degree range while playing Oblivion. Insanity. I wouldn't worry too much, you're at about half the temperature.

It is clear that in single player the game will work just fine. To be honest I never played online because I didn't had an Internet connection at home. I would like to ask you guys if Konami cares about this part of the game. Do they have enough servers? Do the servers have lag? How does the game "move" online? :) If you can not answer here please send me a private message.
Lovejoy!

Yes Wan. Though barely a few applications take full advantages of the four cores and it's at quite a low clock speed which is why I'll be overclocking it, at latest, at the end of the year. As now, it runs every I throw at it very well.

Any real reason for this thread? :erm:

Nope. I've considered watercooling but don't know enough to trust myself yet and am waiting for Nehalem before upgrading again. My next purchase looks to be a PSU after I finally woke up and realised that they consume less electricity when running at 60-70% load.
Any real reason for this thread? :erm:

Not to sound like a n00b but how do I find my specs. See I'm thinking my PC is a tad bit out of date and I'm thinking of updating it. I was playing a game earlier and noticed all the settings were on low. So, I'm not sure whether to buy a new pc or just buy some more RAM or whatever.

XP instructions:
Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System
The first screen will show your processor (and stock speed) plus the amount of RAM. If you then click on the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager, under Display Adapters you'll find your graphics card.
The only way to find out the capacity of your PSU is to open up your case and read the wattage from the label.
PM me and I'll advise you further once you know the specs.

What other specs would you like to know? You can try this (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) to see if that tells you what you want to know.
The processor is fine for gaming, the RAM is adequate as long as you're only using XP but the graphics card isn't for high-end gaming and may even struggle at mid-ranges. Where nVidia cards are concerned, anything ending in 800 or above is a gaming card. The first number simply denotes the generation of card.
The only way to check the capacity of the PSU is to read the label attached to it. There's no need to worry about the motherboard.
What size is your monitor?
Thanks.
Its 19" (Acer x193w) and has a resolution of 1440x900. Is this a strange resolution?
Not really fussed about the graphics card and high end gaming - i've got a PS3 for that (although I do realise its weaker than many high end PC's) but as long as the PC can cope with 'general' games, its fine.
Basically, I dont plan on playing Crysis.
Thanks.

1440x900 is a widescreen resolution. 1680x1050 is the native resolution of a 20" or 22" widescreen and a 24" is something like 1900x1200.
The PC should be able to play general games fine as long as you're not whacking the anti-aliasing (smoother edges on textures) up too high.
Yeah, I have a 20" (1680x1050) monitor for my PS3, but unfortunately because its not a common resolution for games (like 720 or 1080p) I get aliasing in all games - i'll probably get a proper TV instead of a monitor next time. That being said, I could use my 20" screen for my PC.
Just one last question, is 1440x900 a HD resolution?

Yes, it can handle 1080i and 720i but not 1080p.
Alright then, thanks for your help.

However I'm thinking about getting a new base unit, specificaly this (http://direct.tesco.com/product/default.aspx?r=205-2218) one.
The PC I currently have (for about 4 years and is currently acting up) is a HP Pavillion:
Basic Info-
Processor: Intel Premium 4 CPU 2.93GHz
RAM: 512 MB
Graphics Card: NVidia GeForce 6200 TurboCacatche
Sound Card: Realtek High Definition Audio
Just wondering is it worth it getting the new base unit or to just get my current one fixed?
Its best to see what Sweey says, but if I were in your position, I would get an upgrade. However it depends on what you plan to do with your pc.

I don't do that much on it, nothing too taxing. Just play football manager, listen to choonz and surf da web.
For Football Manager you really want 2GB RAM, particularly as DDR2 RAM is so cheap.
There is also little excuse not to be getting a dual core processor given how cheap they are too.
Im trying to work out whats what here, so could anyone enlighten me as to what temperatures are which, and whether these temps are ok? (it's in an idle state when I took the screen)
- Why are there 3 'temps' and what are they for?
- What is ambient?

The ambient temperature in this instance is the in-case temperature (as it can't be the room temperature). You should use CoreTemp for processor temperatures instead of SpeedFan. Temperatures are for the motherboard and the processor - depending on the motherboard and processor you have, each will work fine up to different temperatures.
For example, I'm told tthat the maximum temperature my processor will work at is 100 degrees by Coretemp which is right but honestly I wouldn't want it going over 70 degrees at load whilst at idle my cores are 44-47 which for some is high but is not at all dangerous given I'm on air cooling and its warm today.
Hope that's some help.
Alright Sweey my good man, I think it's about time I actually upgrade my PC instead of just talking about it. I need a good spec multimedia PC for multiple applications use, creating and rendering large 2d/3d images, running HD movies, and maybe some PC gaming. Here's some specs of a PC I'm looking at. Which areas of this set up are the most important for my needs?
AMD® Phenom™ II X4 940 Black Edition (3.0GHz, 125W)
ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB Graphics cards
6144MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048 + 2x1024]
1TB (7200rpm) Serial ATA/100 Hard Drive
16X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write) and 16xDVD ROM

Everything there would actually be fine. If you're buying the components individually, you might want to go for an Intel processor instead as you could overclock it with a third-party heatsink - my 2.6Ghz quad core is overclocked to 3.8, for example. You'd need to make sure you get one that uses DDR2 RAM though, not DDR3. If you aren't overclocking though, there's not much of a difference between AMD or Intel and everything you've listed will place games to an excellent standard - your graphics card is better than mine (same one but mine is 512MB) and I have no issues in anything I play though admittedly I don't bother with Crysis.

I'll be buying the system as a whole with all those parts listed included. Cheers for the advice.

I'm hopeless with computer specs, but next week I may be getting this model:

In all seriousness, I don't even know how to lay out the specs so I'm just lumping the text down:
-AMD Phenom™ II X4 820 Quad-Core processor (2.80 GHz, 6 MB Total Cache)
-ATI Radeon™ HD 5670 DirectX® 11 graphics with 1024 MB dedicated memory on board and D-Sub VGA, DVI-I and HDMI connection
-4 GB DDR3 SDRAM
-1 TB hard disk
Decent at all? Ideally want it to run highest spec games upto 2006/7 period and hopefully the latest FM. Could be a pipe dream for all I know :/

The "weakest" component will be the graphics card but it should run all 06/07 games except perhaps Crysis or its sequel at full settings though that would also depend on the resolution you play at. The CPU and RAM are perfectly fine and will have no issues.
That'll do me! Current PC has been buggered one way or another for over 2 years now, so it'll be hugely satisfying to be able to run more than two things at once. Hell, I'll be satisfied to have a computer that runs at all.
