View Full Version : England's Front 2
Who do you think should play upfront for england?
i reckon rooney & owen only cos rooney would make owen look like a better player

What about Vassel? He was amazing against Turkey.
Anyway Owen struggles without Heskey I think, so maybe Rooney will have to wait that little bit extra.
Your right Vassell did play well against turkey i forgot about him
Owen is the biggest has been since Lord McHasbeen the 3rd,he used to be so good but I really don't rate him as much as i used to,Rooney on the other hand shows great potential,is gazza dead cos this kid must be the reincarnation of the beer swilling geordie genius
Owen is a finisher, like Ruud. They need service to score. With the current England set-up neither will score. Rooney creates things for himself, he'll always look good but may not score that many.
i don't like owen either, he is well overated but how does he get in the england squad when he plays crap its the same for beckham but every time england beckham seems to be up for it

That was a funny reply! I like Lord Mchasbeen! I know a few myself :D.
Well Rooney should be looked after. Does anyone remember what happened to Owen with all his injuries? Well we must hope this doesn't happen to Wayne.
On 'form' Beattie and Owen.....top 2 englishmen in the race for the golden shoe. And Sven did say he'd pick his team on form. But the attack line has surely to be chosen as a unit and some unlikely partnerships would work better than the expected. Why not have 1 striker with 2 attacking midfielders/skilled players behind with wide men who can cut in or even score. I hate to say this but take a leaf out of the formation of Man U, Real madrid and Brazil. No defence is comfortable against these attacks.

I really don't think Svens' tactics would allow us to play all out-attack. It's a shame really.
I think Beattie would have to repeat his form of this season during the next season for Sven to really take notice.
That would, unfortunately for Beattie, need his Saints team mates to recreate last seasons form. But to be noticed by Sven he'll probably have to move to a 'major' club.......or lose his flair
id play owen and rooney upfront . even though im a liverpool surporter i dont c how heskey can get into the england squad let alone the startin 11 !

Beattie had his chance in a friendly match or two and didn't seem to impress Sven too much.
Maybe he's not good enough yet.
Hopefully with Southampton being in Europe next season he will improve with experience of foreign defences and so on.
England's strikers should out of Owen, Vassell and Rooney with the starters being the ones on better form (like in PES/WE) with the other coming on as sub. Or playing 3 up front which is rare but can happen with Sven.
If they do play with 3 strikers, I think the better option would be 4 in midfield and 3 at the back rather than 4 defs and 3 mids.

Heskey must not play for england again, its a disgrace hes even in the squad when theres players like Beattie and even Jeffers was pretty good against Australia, not being picked. Owen doesnt seem to be in form at the moment, but next year will be his year - mark my words.
Can i just ask why Graeme Le Saux is not being picked? We blatantly have a problem with the left side of midfield, and Le Saux would be the perfect replacement, he works hard, he can put in really decent crosses, he can defend well, hes not scared of getting stuck in, and can crack a powerful shot now and again. Did Sven blink when he walked by or something?
Graeme Le Saux is past it. I didn't think much of him in his prime anyway. I think he should give Gareth Barry a go on the left side of midfield. Everytime I see him play he is excellent there.

I'm still a Robbie Fowler fan. He's the best natural finisher England has produced in years, if not ever. If there is one player in the Premiership I'd want a chance to fall to, it's him. If you're going to pick Owen because he's a finisher, and only a finisher - pick Fowler instead. He's better.
Clearly, Fowler would need a work-man striker next to him, because he's a lazy shit. Not Stan Collymore, then. James Beattie probably, Alan Smith maybe, I mean, for God's sake, try Peter Crouch, because he'll win you headers. Not Emile Heskey, though. At a push - and I mean a realy big push, a push the length of the Grand fuckin' Canyon - I'd let Heskey be in the squad for contention as a left-sided midfielder.
Joe Cole would be my first choice for the left-wing, as he's one of the Premiership's two most skillfull dribblers of a football (along with Okocha - who's more skillfull is anyone's guess).

Le Saux is out due to his age and because he got sent off for Chelsea in front of Sven.
(I know, I'm reading Sven's book!)

Owens partner has gotta be Alan Smith. The guy gives it 110% all the time. He can win the headers, and even set them up for Owen. He will also contribute his fair share of goals as well. Rooney must be looked after and saved.
I agree that Fowler is an amazing finsher but he's had his chance and he didn't capitalize on it. In my opinion he is finished and will never re-live his best days at Liverpool. So I think other people deserve a chance ahead of him.
By the way Gary Lineker was a better finisher!

Alan Smith gets sent off too much. Bad temperament.
Too much of a risk if you were in a close match in a major tournament.
yeah i hav 2 agree that smith would b 2 much of a risk . but he is still a great player :)

Rooney and Vassell? That hasn't been tried yet, has it? I didn't watch the Serbia + M game to know if they paired up...
They did OK.....once all the subs were introduced. Rooney played from the left with pace and strength and Vassell drifted from the right with fast, direct play....and with Cole behind them:)
