I was just wondering which type of DVD's are best, or if it even matters, like DVD-R or DVD+R.

I was looking at these, would they be good?

The quality of media is what matters. Buy excessively cheap brands and you'll find compatibility issues and write failures. I've always stuck to Verbatim and suffered no issues. Couldn't say for sure if Maxell is going to work fine but I'd imagine so.

There's little difference between DVD-R and DVD+R though I've covered it somewhere not too long ago.

Wan that's a ridiculously biased article. Look at the name of the website you've taken it from.

Any blank CDs/DVDs Made in Japan are gold, you can't go wrong with them.

They're the best blank media that you can buy.

There are some Verbatim Made in Japan stuff available here mostly at online shops but they are rare and therefore expensive. Most Verbatim stuff sold here is either Made in India, Made in China or Made in Singapore which by the way are all inferior products to the Made in Japan stuff (and cheaper than the Made in Japan stuff).

If you want maximum compatability with older DVD Players then go for the DVD-Rs. Some older DVD Players cannot play back DVD+Rs even if you set the booktype to DVD-ROM so you might wanna go for the DVD-Rs to increase compatability with your DVD equipment.
