United - Lyon.
ITV are a bunch of fucking cunts.
Please, anyone, try and justify this decision for me.
I'll justify it for you man...get Sky, you never miss a goal with their brilliant interactive service.
Nah on a serious note, it's probably because ITV adore the good old European nights at Old Trafford, plus the tie is quite evenly balanced.
From a personal point of view I'd sooner watch Milan v Arsenal...but then I do have Sky so I will be watching it...it might be on ITV4, you got Freeview? Go down the pub? I don't know.

Whilst the Arsenal game isn't?
The chances of a United victory are much higher than an Arsenal victory. Therefore why show the United game? Games in the San Siro really don't come along very often and ITV should be showing it.
Yes, I'll be in the pub watching the game, but that's beside the point. The cunts are yet again showing United preferential treatment. It's pathetic.
Edit: Did you know the last time we were on ITV1 was the Champions League final?
It's happened for years though mate, I for one am used to it, before I had Sky I always gave ITVs Champions League matches a wide berth for that same reason. They generally bum the fuck out of United, but then since I can remember they always have. Biased, over excited commentary, its what I've come to expect from them.
But I guess you've gotta look at the fact the majority of armchair fans who sit on their fat arses watching football on ITV are United supporters. That's my opinion anyway.
Am I right in believing Arsenal-Milan was the "second" game on Sky's normal channels last week? I'm sure Lyon-United was either on Sky Sports 1 or 2 with Arsenal-Milan on 2 or Xtra.
I'm glad we're not the main ITV game as their coverage is shocking. That said, there's no excuse for it not being the main game. Arsenal, dubbed by plenty in this country and throughout Europe as the most exciting side before Christmas are trying to oust the holders in their own stadium. Can youth overcome experience? Hope for our sake we don't have a repeat of those defeats to Ajax in 1995
May I also say that I love how, after last week's game, Galliani said we'd improve our fitness before the next leg in order to provide a different threat to Arsenal. Nothing wrong there, perhaps reassuring for a Milan fan. Then we've got Ancelotti's comments after last night's near-defeat to Catania: "we're not sharp"...Jesus wept into Emerson's 58-year-old lap.
Nesta, Kaladze, Jankulovski, Pirlo and Kaka won't be fully fit even if they play. With Van Persie back and Adebayor secretly believing Christmas is coming around again already, I'm really bricking it.
Like has been said mate, classic ITV.
I agree though, shocking coverage and their presenters bore me to tears.
Robbie Earle, Andy Townsend, Jim Rosental, Gabby fucking Logan. I almost killed myself when they won the rights to show Premiership highlights, it was scandalous.

Why you bought him is still beyond me.
Have you honestly just played for the CL this season?

Van Persie won't be fully fit either. He'll start with Bendtner I'd imagine.

Slightly off topic but still in theme, the FA cup.
The BBC screens a match between two Prem teams who are both quite shit and/or is not a Derby as such. Now fair enough if it's Manyoo or the Arse or a derby match because a bit like Specsavers these can make interesting spectacles. My gripe is say Boro vs Bolton or something similar and then you have teams such as Havant or Chasetown who you never see on Sky miss out on a Telly game. Most of the Prem teams are seen on Sky atleast twice a year and many people know of these teams but when a chance to view a possible cup killing pops up the media often miss out. Why bother showing Prem teams when you can show shitter teams for a change.
Here is a top example: Havant and Waterlooville take an unexpected lead against one of the top four teams in England away at one of the most well known Arenas in the Uk. This is proper cup magic but do we see it live and in its entirety? Do we bollocks because Manure are playing Spurs. Fucking disgusting.

The truth, whether they admit it or not, is that while we did put the CL ahead of Serie A, Galliani etc. believed we were strong enough to challenge for both. Clearly we aren't and they know we can't match Inter so they've gone back to the CL as we seem a bit more suited to the format and style. One day very soon we are going to pay big time (in every sense) for what we're doing and it worries me.
There's an extremely good chance we're going to be in the UEFA Cup next season, so much so that Galliani even commented on it last week.

To be fair, the Beeb had to make their decision prior to Havant's replay against Swansea and they probably believe Swansea would win.

Yeah fair point it could have ended up as Luton vs Swansea but surely that is worth the risk? I know it wouldn't have been the most attractive of prospects but it would still be different from the norm. I still hate the scheduling and picks for most games.
Definitely Maybe

Stella complaining about bigger clubs getting preferential treatment, oh the irony
Seriously though, it has always been the same and will always be the same. They go for the games that will get the highest ratings. Even the BBC do it and they're a public service broadcaster.
Greenegg does make a good point though, far more neutrals are likely to watch Premiership vs lower league than Premiership vs Premiership in the FA Cup. You'd think the Beeb would have chosen Liverpool either way, whether is was Swansea or Havant, taken the risk. After all, there was still the chance of an upset.

Feel free to remind me exactly what sort of preferential treatment we get.
Oh I know, having non-existant penalties given against us in the 92nd minute of a crucial game.
Hang on...
Definitely Maybe

Fucking hell, get the violins out
I wasn't on about that anyway, I meant you're always going on at me for going on about it.

Violins out? Whatever for? I was just yet again debunking the myth that you've created.
But you do always go on about it. :erm:

If you prefer to watch the game in your house Stella, just watch it on Sopcast.

I didn't create any myth, I wasn't even meaning that.
I do always go on about and you always tell me to politely shut up, so it's a bit ironic for you to create a thread doing exactly the same don't you think?
Once again you've created an argument out of a half-jokey comment, you and Rafa (who you profess to hate so much) are the only ones that would have done that. I even agreed with you in the next sentence ffs!

It's obvious, it's ITV, anything to get more viewers, same reason they almost always show Liverpool over Chelsea. I mean no offense to any Arsenal fan, but generally if they show Man Utd, chances are more people will watch, what with Man Utd being the biggest club in the country, even though Arsenal are a far better team to watch. Not to mention there are a lot Italians living in England, who I'm sure would like the chance to watch AC Milan.
Still, Arsenal will be ITV4 won't they?
Dragonfly

Yeah, they should be on ITV4. The thing I hate most about ITV4's coverage is that they downsize the image.

Totally agree with you! Why do they do that? Is it cheaper?

I don't know. I can only think it's something to do with digital or Free View.

ITV are extremely pro Man Yoo. It gives Clive Tydsley the chance to mention "that night in Barcelona" for the 9999999999999999999999th zillion time.
I posted a link somewhere where it said the BBC are trying to get the Champions League rights for next season because they're losing England games and the FA Cup.

Is the thing with itv4 not just the same as BBCi, where they don't broadcast in widescreen, so the display just appears square. Cant say i've watched many games on itv 4 mind.

Yeah, that's why I think it's something to do with being on Free View.
