I've lost my mouse in Vista Ultimate (I'm using XP at the moment) but am off to try this fix in a moment. If anyone else comes across similar issues (loses one but not both), hopefully this will help:
Hi,
try this... (for me it`s working)
go to device manager and go to the properties of the unknown device. then click update driver.
click on install manually
next you need to browse to this place
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStor e\FileRepository\
then find the folder that begins with msmouse open then select this folder
in the text box it would look something like
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStor e\FileRepository\msmouse.inf_{ Some Id Here}
{ Some Id Here } being the id for your computer
then click next / install

EDIT:
Mwahaha it didn't work for me :huh:
However, if you go into the Device Manager and delete the "Unknown Device" which used to be your mouse, it will revert back to the mouse working and Vista asking you to search for a driver for your "unknown device" (the working mouse). Just click "Ask me again later" and you're good to go.
Microsoft, fix please.
