I was hoping to see a world record, expecting it too, but I cannot believe what I've just witnessed.

By far the best sprinter of this generation, he beat the world record for the 100 metres at the Beijing Olympics clocking a 9.69, only to smash it today at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany. Bolt clocked a 9.58!

I cannot forget Tyson Gay who clocked a new National Record at 9.71 in second place and Asafa Powell who came in third with 9.84. The best race I have ever seen, even I was nervous.

Will we ever see the record broken in years to come? Will we ever see another sprinter that will even come close to breaking the record?

A few years ago I would of scarcely believed I'd see a 9.58 seconds run, but if Bolt can knock off 0.11 seconds off an already incredible time in one race, it's hard to doubt that he can peak at 9.4 seconds.

I felt quite bad for Tyson Gay because he ran a very fast 100m too, but nobody can get near Bolt...can he keep improving though?

HH
16-08-2009, 23:43
I dont know if its possible, but he probably will defy us again and run even faster.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8204381.stm

For those who missed it. If I were a fellow sprinter, wouldnt you question your ability? Knowing that this guy is here and he's always improving.

stottmeister
17-08-2009, 10:03
is anyone else expecting him to fail a drug test sometime in the future?

HH
17-08-2009, 12:02
They do drug tests regularly in athletics. But it is a possibility, a shame if he is a abuser because he's made the sport fun to watch again.

nath_scfc
17-08-2009, 13:28
The fact that people debate if he is clean or not is one of the biggest compliments he could recieve.

If he gets an amazing, amazing start he could do a 9.4.

Baddar
17-08-2009, 14:24
I can't wait for a Bolt "drug test" to be made public, whether it comes back positive or negative.

It's easy for people to say "lol, drugs" if he's running so fast, so it'd be good to get it out in the open that he isn't on drugs. Or, of course, prove that he is yet another Jamaican cheat. >_>

Hunter
17-08-2009, 14:36
During his first 100m world record break, wasn't he tested over 50 times that year, and every single one showed he didn't take drugs.

Why can't people just be happy for him without accusing him? Probably the only time we'll see such an athletic freak for the next 50+ years, we're genuinely seeing a true freak of nature when it comes to athletics, a one off, a legend at the age of 22 and progressing.

i dont think it's accusation. it's just that the sport is so rife with drug cheats that when someone runs so phenomenally fast you cant help but wonder.

and it's not as though the drug tests are 100% as the chemicals are so advanced they dont know what they are looking for for ages.

i used to think dwayne chambers was awesome until he got caught, who's to say gay or bolt or any of them arent using some crazy new drug.

i say legalize the lot and lets see who gets the 5 second 100 mtrs

muscularmatt
18-08-2009, 00:22
there's that cynical part of everyone that always suspects cheating when someone does so well, especially in athletics.

but yeah i reckon they should do a separate 'roidhead olympics' and then you'd know the real one was clean! just imagine it loads of really fucking veiny guys running the 100 metres in 7 and a half seconds and throwing the javelin like 200 metres! it'd be awesome...

crazy thing is Gay is 0.02 away from Bolts Beijing record. With that in mind doubt Usain can improve as he was beating his chest well before the line in Beijing and was actually pushed all the way by Gay and Powell.

Some expert was saying that his technique could do with some improvement..

Besides, who's to know if people weren't faster back in the day? There was no one there to clock them.

I bet he'd run a lot faster if he was being chased by lions in the Savannah...

Insane Bolt! Incredible.

He's only 22, nowhere near his prime yet, just wow.

Bish
20-08-2009, 20:17
If he can do that when he's tired then it wouldn't surprise me to see him go under 19 seconds eventually.

I like the fact that other athletes are trying to copy his cocky, relaxed attitude before races.

Sweey
20-08-2009, 20:41
Here's an odd quesiton: does anyone think he will eventually clock a 200m time which is less than twice the time he clocks for the 100m?

Miggy
20-08-2009, 20:43
With a little help from the wind.

Aaronarid
20-08-2009, 20:45
It looks that way.

If his events had been the other way round, I doubt the 100m would of been less than half his 200m.

Jonno394
20-08-2009, 20:47
I think he will purely because the 200m run see's a higher average speed in athletes and have a mantained top speed for longer as well. I would class the holder of the 200m wr the fastest man alive purely because of this fact.

At present he is only 0.03 behind 2x his 100m wr.

Gun_Runner
21-08-2009, 20:06
I agree...I think 200m times are much more impressive than 100m, mainly because they're maintaining their '100m speed' for a full 200m if you get me? 19.19 seconds is just lightning fast there's no stopping this man!

AgentZero
22-08-2009, 02:19
what about the 400m?

Gun_Runner
22-08-2009, 09:26
what is the 400m record?

for the 200m i just think its incredible their muscles can endure a flatout pace & still average 10m in under a second.

Sweey
22-08-2009, 09:42
43.18 for the 400m.

50!
22-08-2009, 23:52
Bolt said he could do 400m but if he is getting tired after the 100 and 200 I doubt he'd even attempt it unless he trained for it solely. I'd love to see him do it and have the 3 records for a very long time but I think he'll just pick one and specialise in it.

Gun_Runner
23-08-2009, 00:29
I think he'll stick with the 100m & 200m. No one can get near him. Tyson Gay was only 0.02 seconds off of Bolt's Beijing 100m record, but now Bolt's gone and smashed that again!

AgentZero
23-08-2009, 00:44
I still reckon had Bolt not beat his chest well before the line he would of clocked a closer time to that of Berlin. Gay improved in a year to close down on 0.02 of Bolts beijing record, i think Gay should he stay injury free and train harder could beat Bolt (not the record) in the next meet -you've heard it here first

stottmeister
23-08-2009, 09:40
i think the commentator said something about his start not being perfect, this could be why his 200 mtrs time is faster than his 100 mtrs time x2

he only has to do one take off so after the first 100 he's already in full sprint

muscularmatt
31-10-2009, 05:15
43.18 for the 400m.

still hugely impressive, it'd take me that long to do the 200!

actually the other day, me and my mrs were organising, or atleast theorising, about a race between me and my dog. she kinda challenged me on the dog's behalf, saying i'd never beat him...
