Laptop advice

I was thinkin about getting a laptop over summer, seen some good spec machines on the internet for around £400-500, i was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I dont need it for games, as I have a pc and 360, just a decent speed as I am new to laptops and tend to find them pretty slow compared to pc's. I would prefer an AMD processor, but I am not too fussed.

What will you do with the laptop ?
Why do you want an AMD processor ?
If you want only AMD processors; you will greatly limit your options.

What Operating System do you want with the laptop ?
Are you concerned about extended warranty ?
