Basically when I try and play Pro Evo 2008 on my slimline PS2 I either get a "Please insert a Playstation 2 format disk", or it does nothing. I don't think it can read the disk and I have no idea why. Obviously you should hear the disk spinning but it doesn't get that far.

I only bought the playstation less than 6 months ago, and I only bought PES2008 literally a month ago at most, it's barely got a mark. It's absolutely fucking retarded. You might say it's because the disk is scratched but the PS2 reads any other disk absolutely fine. Including my Guitar Hero II which is scratched to fuck, and DVDs.

I don't think I'll get an answer but I'm hoping I do because I'm pretty annoyed.

Get a new PS2.

As soon as my old one started doing that I bought a new one, its the only way forward motherfucker.

I'm not that desperate to play again! Like I said, I paid £70 for a brand new one not long ago at all, and if it does this it's not worth buying another one. Well, maybe in a while, I need my Pro Evo....though I'm not giving up yet.

I know someone who had a similar problem and they swear by this method.

Get some Mr. Sheen polish and spray it lightly all over the disc. Put the disc in the freezer for 1 hour and then take out and wipe all the polish off with a tissue.

He said he saw it on day time tele as a way to fix scratches and cd's that don't work

I've seen that technique with the polish. Can't say i've tried it myself but i hear it works to some degree...

Only other things I can suggest are:

Lens cleaner disc - some discs are affected more by dirty lenses than others. my old PS2 used to ply DVD's but not games or magazine cover discs. The lens cleaner rectified this. I think it was something to do with the switch from red to blue laser...

Static - It's possible for a disc to pick up enough static to disrupt the laser. An anti-static cloth can help.

Other than that, get your receipt and try and swap for a new copy of the game..

slimline ps2s are like that. Theyre a fussy bunch, stick to the fatties.

The fat ones are just as bad.

The PS2 lenses are generally unreliable.

The PS2 doesn't have a blue laser.

I think the problem starts where the PS2 has to switch between the DVD lens and the CD lens (both red laser).

Can you imagine though what would happen with a PS3 lens? A PS3 actually has 3 different lenses (blue laser for Blu-Ray discs, red laser for DVDs and red laser for CDs).

Judging from whats happened with the PS2 lenses then it looks like the PS3 lenses will break down eventually.

Oh. I thought they'd switched to a blue laser on the skinny ones. I know they wouldn't work with the old PS1 blue discs (black ones were OK though) & the AR discs.

Will bow to superior knowlegde if thats the case though.

Sony would never put in a blue laser in a PS2. They cost an arm and a leg to manufacture even now. Thats how advanced Blu-Ray technology is at the moment.

I think you're getting confused with some PS2 games and demo discs that had a purplish/blueish kind of colour on the underside of the disc. It is true that some of these PS2 discs with that particular colour on the underside of the disc were not playable on the slim PS2.

This was because Sony scrapped compatability with these discs in order to bring in compatability with DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs.
