The world's most expensive burger - flame grilled Wagyu Beef, topped with white truffles in an Iranian saffron and truffle bun - is to go on sale at a fast food restaurant.

Burger King's £95 sandwich, named simply The Burger, will make Guinness World Record history beating a similarly extravagant American Double Truffle Burger which cost just £65 in 1994.

The world's most succulent Japanese beef is complemented with white truffles, onion tempura prepared in Cristal champagne and Italy's finest Pata Negra prosciutto

Restaurant critics have dismissed the burger as just the latest stunt in a marketing craze which has seen Selfridges charge £85 for a sandwich and Peter Jones, the Sloane Square department store, ask £50 for a cup of coffee pre-digested by a Civet cat.

Jasper Gerard, The Daily Telegraph's restaurant critic said: "This is just a PR stunt, even more absurd than the coffee costing virtually as much as a semi-detached house in Crewe.

"Burger bars are desperate to move up market as more people question why they are filling their bodies with fast food. But who will really spend £95 in Burger King?"

David Kisilevsky, vice president of marketing at the fast food chain, said: "The Burger is an extension of Burger King's quality burger menu and is aimed at burger aficionados, looking for the ultimate burger taste experience.

"It reflects our ongoing commitment to producing the best quality burgers for a range of different pockets and reinforces our quality credentials."

I heard about this a couple of days ago. It's only available in London and if memory serves, only at one outlet.

No doubt some sad fucks with too much spare cash will lap 'em up.

Why?

I guess they'll make the XL bacon double cheese burger look cheap by comparison though.

Why?.

£95 squids for burger. That's why. if it was in Harrods it'd be understandable, but bloody BK! You'd get mugged at the fucking drive through for that.

Had myself a little wagyu beef yesterday, tasted exactly the same as normal beef. Once nearly tried the proper stuff in Japan but I had a change of heart and decided that maybe spending £150 on a steak was a little excessive. Joel Robuchon does a fine burger.

If its at only one outlet in London its probably the one at Leicester Square,
the one where they wont let you go for a piss unless you buy something first. bastards.

Don't they eat it raw over there..?

Not a whole steak, they sear it I believe. Thinner pieces may be eaten raw but usually are lightly cooked.
