im guessing it wont be out on ps2 then..............
Looks spot on though!!
I could of sworn Pes6 was going to be the last on PS2 but PES2008 came out on it , no doubt Konami will release it on all formats..

The Press Release has confirmed the game will be released on PS2. No mention was made of the Wii or DS games as these have a completely different engine and I believe are released by a different department.

The lighting looks much improved. I hope it's there in the real game.
Looks very similar to last years, I just hope its more than a Footy Manager-style update.
There's so much that can be improved, fingers crossed it will be one of the better installments.
EA Euro 2008 was an excellent game, hope PES 2009 can match the new FIFA.

same crap again lads, dont be fooled
Looks ok, but that doesn't matter that much. It's the gameplay, not the graphics that needs improvement.

Fully agreed. The gameplay is what matters in the end.

yeah, looks better but wasn't there a problem with frame rates in 2008, hence the patch?
by the way the goals look the same with those daft sandbags still holding the nets down? wtf, what stadium had sandbags hold the nets?
all looks the same to me.

i,m really disappointed, it looks very the same crap of PES2008.
look at the blue midfielders (the same stupid AI).

to be fair the graphics is really solid, i mean the best soccer graphics, that is if that is the real gameplay, it looks good and those of u who are talking bout AI like ahmed, jst by looking at a picture doesnt mean u will kno the AI, u havent even played the game yet and u are already complaining, ahmed and goalgerd, see the gameplay, feel the movement and enjoy the online and master league, then u can complain rite, dont u tink u would feel stupid when it comes out and u realise it is good, be optimistic bout it, at least pro evo are trying with licence and stuff and they are naturally better then fifa, fifa jst irritates me euch, like an insect crawling up my skin *shivers* i look at my fifa game case every day and cant seem to want to get it into my playstation2:D

well doyin, i didn't say anything about FIFA, which represents the ultimate crap for me, but for PES which i still play (but PES6) and will keep doing so, the game has a great potential and a great mechanism that unfortunately KONAMI put behind and developed a new dull one instead in PES2008. i truly hope that the new version is not crap but it just not looking to be different from the last year and i think the veteran PES players knows what i'm talking about, just play PES3 and look how great are the players positioning and moving around the field.
also when i express my thoughts about the game it doesn't mean that i will be stupid if they were incorrect, its opinions and predictions AND a hope that you don't buy the game if it was bad like the previous version (unless you like it of course).

hmmm it may be just me, but this looks identical to pes 2008 does it not?
The other shots are way more exciting. The stadiums and pitches look way better, as does the lighting.
And it also looks like they have taken EA's sweaty look...

I thought the same thing when I first saw them shots -but- there's definitely an improvement.. players look less plastic-like now, and faces have better definition.
If you go and look at the old shots of PES08, look at the shot of Ronaldinho -and- then compare how Ronaldinho looked in PES08 -with- the new shots of Ronaldinho in PES09. There's a clear improvement in his face, and you can also see that Tevez looks much better now too.
It LOOKS clearly better than either PES08 or FIFA08.. Let's hope the gameplay is as good.
To be franckly honest why are you all getting wet about 1 screenshot. I mean come on lads, wait for the game to atleast be near realese date before you start creaming up about it.

because this is a press release where they are supposed to be "bigging the game up" and they have given us one shot that looks exactly like last years poor attempt which disappointed so many loyal fans.
Maybe that shot looked like last year's because it was taken from a very big distance. The further away the less difference you'll see.

why do they insist in horrible graphics we all know these are pre made screenshots to show the glamourous side of the game they never show u things like i duno the fact that the players only run in straight lines and the lack of goals is crap too
they need to sort stadiums out too
no doubt pro evo 2011 will have the euro 2008 stadiums theyre just that stupid when fifas offers cardiff azteca new wembley allianz emirates

Kevthedrummer
26-06-2008, 12:11
this game in particular has way too many goals, most of which are caused by bugs! I can't remember my last 0-0 or 3-0 for that matter!
i don't no any of the bugs but i havent lost a game for a long time
Kevthedrummer
26-06-2008, 12:20
well by bugs I mean the ridiculous keeper errors and defensive A.I. which can only be described as a problem with the programming or a "bug"
but do a you tube search for pes 2008 bugs, you'll be suprised!

lack of goals? Lack of goals?Well if you look at results between OTHER teams in Master League, for example, I would agree there are a lack of goals. But in games when I play the number of goals are ridiculous. Top of the league but I have still conceeded more than the bottom placed placed team.

Gotta step in here on this one, Ive got a 360, my mate has a PS3, been round to play his a few times, and the lag on it is fookin shockin. SOrry mate, 360 pi$ses on PS3 with regards to PES.
I'm glad it's not just me... whenever im winning you can guarantee the comp will score. usually a bloody corner, they just push your players and get themselves a free header. not that that matters no keeper could save some of these headers!!!!!

with regards to those 13 HI RES all the trimmings pictures, they cut scene pictures that look exactly them same as any pic from the 08 game, theres one in game picture (brazil Vs Arg) that looks no different to PES8 and doesnt even look that real.
Certainly no improvements at this stage.
........... i wont beleive it ignorance is bliss
i used to have pes4 on the xbox but it just feels better on the ps, i dont play online at the mo either hence 23 seasons of ML
Looking at the picture it looks like the AI will still be as bad, if you look at the first picture in this thread, in game action, you will notice the 2 center midfielders both 1 meter apart running away from the man with the ball, dont look good to me!

Brazil vs Argentina, just look at the old screenshots of PES08 -there's- clearly an improvement. Maybe you will not notice it right away, but just place Ronaldinho's shot PES08 -aside- Ronaldinho's shot in PES09.. There's a clear improvement.
However, the thing that doesn't looks good in my opinion is that the Midfielders (and probably the Defenders) seem to be as retarded as in PES08.. judging by the pics, a few midfielders are poorly positioned.

tbh the AI doesnst look horific as many make it out to be. you could easy find the same niggling issues with pes 6 on ps2 (best ever) if u dig deep enough. for all you know the crappy marking in this shot of the midfield may barely ever happen and might not occur too often.
also the defence looks to be holding its own and i dont know how i can tell from this still of gameplay but i just get the feeling it seems slower and more tactical.
And for those who think the graphics arnt an improvement you are blind. just look at the knees of the players in both, the wrinkled shirts, top quality lighting effects and the pitch seems to have depth. the 1 bit of news i like to hear is that new annitmations have been added so goalkeepers should pull off more saves and dribbling/tussling for the ball should look better and grittier.
i still think pes 2008 was OK not BAD or dredful as others like to put it. i mean it had problems and wasnt a leap forward or even a step forward but it could of been so much more and i think thats what pisses people off but i read that as they were developing it the PS3 screwed things up because it hadnt been released while they were making it so they couldnt do anything until they knew what it could do.
i rely heavely on pes so satsfy my gaming needs and i only ever sell a pes game a week or 2 b4 the next 1 whereas this 1 i sold after crimbo. the master league is what keeps me coming back but its the same every year. they dont even change the layout of it which is mindbogglingly poor.
random pes thoughts:
-Master league could be 1 of their new modes and may not be called master league anymore.
-Needs more 'close to the pitch' stadiums to get some atmosphere
-Losing La Liga = Appocalips
-Youth Acadamy on ML?
-Bring back pes shop
-Buy brands like nike and adidas if they loose la liga as that will mean they will have more money
-MEMORIAL MATCH MODE!!!! with my teams fully developed stats from ML
-New modes i.e. senario or challenge will be good for 5 mins on your own. i see them doing well when m8s come round
-Better stadium atmosphere
-Goalkeers are the worst thing on a game ever since games were invented 1000s of years ago.
-FIFA is so slow that if they won the ball on the edge of their own box in that game i could go downstairs, make myself a sandwhich, get a pack of crisps, make a drink and come back upstairs and they would of possibly reached the halfway line.

also with the midfields i just thought well you dont know what formation he is playing and he might have special tactics on like he may have two holding midfielders man-marking 1 guy so maybe thats why their close. other than that its all you should expect from a game.

You have a point, the AI was also quite poor in PES6.. maybe NOT in attacking play -but- the Defensive positioning was poor.
The main difference is that PES08 haves poor Defensive Positioning coupled with an incapacity to defend effectively. On the other hand, PES6 also had poor Defensive Positioning, but you could actually make up for the poor positioning -by- properly timing the controls for sliding tackles and pressuring and marking (R2 Button).
But still, PES6 haves a lot to improve in the Defensive Play.
^Yeah I felt the same way. I think pes 5 showed the player's skill instead of luck and also pes 5 had the best defnding but the attacking was a bit poor.

@Muzza798, the graphics may look good, but the animation and control is lacking somewhat which detracts from the graphics.
I feel there is something missing on the controls on the pc while using an xbox 360 controller. There does not seem to be the same level of controll as with pes6 on xbox360 or previous ps2 versions.

weird... has he installed the patches??
Unless you're talking about online, in which case it is still terrible yes.
I used to play on a normal tv (sdtv) and I had some slowdown problems but not as much as some people say. Now I'm playing on an HDtv (the game is still without patches) and the slowdowns and lags decreased.
^Yeah I felt the same way. I think pes 5 showed the player's skill instead of luck and also pes 5 had the best defnding but the attacking was a bit poor.
I kinda thought your saying is a bit weird though, if the attacking is poor, its obvious that the defense is better, its because its better to defend that the attack play feels a little bit hard/not good.
Is it the same case in PES 2008? Where the attacking part is somewhat better to control thus its harder to defend? Just a food for thought ;)
I meant that pes5 had the balance between attack and defense right, but it also had a problem with the attack, but if you're good then you'll score. This is not the case with pes 6 and 2008. They are based mostly on attacks and their defense is not good. I prefer the pes 5 style of game.

PES5 was the one that had the empty stadium glitch right? I loved that game. Defending was an art on that one.

28-06-2008, 06:16
PES 5 was awesome if they go back more to that style it would be good, PES 08 defensivley is ridiculous, positioning is all wrong, one thing about PES5 i neva got was scoring, id have 15-20 shots on target and score 1 or 2, my players had good ratings but always baloon it over...
was that just me or was i difficult for all?
I meant that pes5 had the balance between attack and defense right, but it also had a problem with the attack, but if you're good then you'll score. This is not the case with pes 6 and 2008. They are based mostly on attacks and their defense is not good. I prefer the pes 5 style of game.
You know, for some reason I haven't played PES5 since I got PES6.. and now that I think about it, I think PES5 was more enjoyable than PES6 (from what I can remember). Maybe PES5 was too fast, but for some reason it was better, probably because it had better defensive play.
In pes2008 shooting is also a skill, so just pressing square aint enough, you have to be at the right angle, have enough space, takes a little more thought!
^Well yes that's true but in the end it depends on the team you're playing with and the team you're playing against. It's useless playing with a lower level team because you'll loose as your shots will be weak and since pace is such important in pes 2008 you'll loose every part of the game. It's useless having good skills if you're playing with a lower level team against teams like Barcelona since pace is such important and that's the biggest mistake of the game.
muzza798
29-06-2008, 01:59
nothng is more boring than 'not' being a 'big' team on that game. annoying thing is you like have to be a major team to even prpoerly enjoy the gameplay.

Not really, playing with lower class teams is depending on how you play, if youre playing with a lower class team and play like you play using Barcelona, then yes, its hard and theres a great chance you'll lose. I always use Man Utd, but once in a while I like playing using lower class teams against my friends who always uses
Chelsea and beat me when I use Man Utd. I got to say, its diff, I can even beat him using lower class teams, i.e Sporting, Newcastle, or Celtic. Its the way you play that counts. But one thing for sure though, I still dont like the way Luca Toni always gets the header in game, even if I defend it with Rio Ferdinand, its soooo ridiculous! Hell even Rio can still defend Jan Koller, why not Toni????
^Italian players are underrated while English players are overrated (not all of them). I agree with what you're saying but luck plays the biggest part unlike pes 5.

Yeah, sometimes luck plays a part too :D
I personally am not concerned about how it looks.
PES2008 looked good. It's just the AI, player physicals and general movement that was poor.
I don't think it needs to start looking better already.
As long as there is better AI and the players are not skating all over the place or solo-runs/dribbling with mediocre players such as Finnan I'm good.

I couldn't agree more. There is nothing more frustrating than your CB's becoming confused and both running to one area leaving a massive space behind them. Along with the fact everytime the AI gets the ball, they're capable of producing 25+ sidesteps and tricks, combined with a 30 yard dribble. It's just damn impossible, especially from shit players.

Yeah, those are the funny -but- frustrating and annoying flaws of PES6 (and PES08). Maybe Diego Maradona or Ronaldo in his prime could perform those types of ridiculous dribbling runs from time to time. But a completely different thing is when you see Peter Crouch dribbling through your complete defence. The game definitely needs more realistic stats because it is impossible to dribble just about everyone whenever you want.. and it's even more unrealistic when you see any average player doing it.
And the Center Backs have very poor positioning -so- you basically have to make up for it by running excessively. I'd like to see the usual flaws at least slightly improved in PES09.
Even the goalkeeper does it.
For instance when he receives the ball and you haven't reached him yet, he'll use the R2 dribble/slow dribble and beat maybe 1 or 2 of your players before passing. :(
^The cpu keeper does it? It has never happened to me.
Excessively. I've scored some goals because of that. While he is busy trying to dribble I do a slide tackle and score.
^I thought you were saying that the keeper dribbles with some ronaldinho moves. That doesn't happen to me but yes the keeper tries to get hold of the ball and sometimes tries to dribble a few.
the keepers should be given more stats instead of just gk skill.. what does that stat actually mean?? crouch shouldnt be able to shoot from 30 yards and push your keeper back into his own goal!!!wtf!
requiem7
30-06-2008, 11:37
the keepers are the most unresponsive players in the game. None of them are any different, when they save the ball you cannot start a counter attack.
They dive, then slowly drag their ass of the ground and lethargically get up.
and when you get the keeper to throw the ball out, does it go to where you want it to?
i have a strange fixation with netting and i'm disapointed that the same nets are in use again. The screenshots havent really told me much apart from the fact the fake stadiums are still in the game. Looking forward to some hands on previews though.

yer i agree i thought it was ok as in it never really bothered me i did try trick and was quite successful but if i played it now then i could probs notice some changes lol...
but i think the current graphics are sweet with player likeness is unreal, the clear liscensed kits are good maybe some lighting could be changed and the boots I feel are i tiny bit weak.... but the gameplay is the major factor
well doyin, i didn't say anything about FIFA, which represents the ultimate crap for me, but for PES which i still play (but PES6) and will keep doing so, the game has a great potential and a great mechanism that unfortunately KONAMI put behind and developed a new dull one instead in PES2008. i truly hope that the new version is not crap but it just not looking to be different from the last year and i think the veteran PES players knows what i'm talking about, just play PES3 and look how great are the players positioning and moving around the field.
also when i express my thoughts about the game it doesn't mean that i will be stupid if they were incorrect, its opinions and predictions AND a hope that you don't buy the game if it was bad like the previous version (unless you like it of course).
okay sorry ahmed, u are right that you did not say anything about FIFA, but it was just how bad you thought the game will be and the way you just predicted the AI. I used FIFA(pro evo's main opposition), just to make a point that pro evo 2009 wont be all that bad and yes, my first play of pes2008 showed that the players where in a way programmed, i understand your concern about that and i can assure you that it will always be like that because there is this debate going on about next gen games getting easier and what i found out by talking to my friends is that there are many amateur gamers who are just coming in and game companies are making games easier for these amateurs, EA games has recognised that even before Konami did and that is why FIFA is naturally easy but Konami just realised that and they started programming their players too, so that means professional gamers like you wont always get what you always wanted but if i know Konami well, they wont make it all that nonsense again seeing that people complain about the AI and with the new champions league licence and good graphics, you have to at least predict something good.:)

Amateur players will remain Amateur if they keep playing easy and boring games. What is the challenge?? What's the point of such games? Waste of money and TIME.
And again, considering that probably most PES Fans are not amateur players.. well, it would be ridiculous if Konami turn against their own fans. FIFA is the game for amateurs -and- PES was the game for more serious Football fans.
If Konami keeps making the game easier and simpler -then- they will truly lose the race against FIFA. And yet again, Amateur and Casual gamers bought FIFA, NOT because it was arcadish, simple, easy, and boring -BUT- because FIFA haves all the Licenses (and always had better graphics) -and- that is what attracts casual gamers the most.
I'm certain that if it was the other way around -that- is if Konami had all the Licenses and the better graphics -then- no one would've bought FIFA in the 1st place.

You are totally right and i cant compete with what you just said but Konami dont know that all their players are professionals and some amateurs who just came into gaming dont want to be hardcore, some just want to enjoy the game.
That's why games like nintendo WII are outselling other consoles cause everything is just easy and not too complicated and i know people like the WII sport and exercise cause it helps their body and brain but it is also easy for amateurs like our parents or so and thats what is selling now, Konami sees that and Konami decides to follow the other game companies who see it.I really hope that they dont do all this for the sake of professionals like you and me

Konami can always release an easy Sports game for the Wii -however- they shouldn't destroy the PES series.. the PES series makes a lot of money, and it haves millions of fans.
I don't see Konami turning against the people who bought PES in the first place. In this respect, PES09 is crucial -because- if Konami releases another arcadish, easy, and boring game similar to PES08 -then- they will loose a good part of their fanbase.
We'll see.. But it would be a surprise for me if Konami is actually trying to make the game easier in order to please casual gamers -because- if they do so, then I expect casual gamers will buy the game -BUT- hardcore fans would loose credibility in the Series and Konami altogether.
After the disappointment that PES08 was.. that would certainly be the worst scenario for Konami.

Well I know that Konami can release their own WII sport game if they want to, but that is not the aim of making games easy. Example the Grand Theft Auto genre, if you have played 'Grand theft auto 4' you will notice that it is more easier than 'Grand theft auto: vice city', even the cops are easier to escape from and the same goes for San andreas, I couldnt finish Vice city but i finished San andreas twice and it was really easy
All the above is just to make a point that games are getting easier but their concept is not changing and Konami can also make the game to be programmed but not perform as bad as you say, cause i dont have pes2008 so i do not know how bad it is, i just got a brief view from playing the demo. Well really we can just wait and hope.
I want to buy pes2008, can you tell me about the master league and individual player graphics, is it good? i know the gameplay isnt so good but I luv pes.

It isn't worth it.. the graphics are acceptable, and some faces are really impressive -but- the game is just worthless, it's boring to play -and- by now it isn't worth buying it.
You'll be better off if you wait until October for PES09.

okay thanx:)
They should copy the nets from Football Kingdom. The most realistic net system I've ever seen!
if that is the namco game i am thinking of then the nets made me feel slightly aroused.

Actually it was released back in 2004. Unfortunately it was only released in Japan.

aww that game actually seems pretty good tbh
Well if you look at results between OTHER teams in Master League, for example, I would agree there are a lack of goals. But in games when I play the number of goals are ridiculous. Top of the league but I have still conceeded more than the bottom placed placed team.
This for me shows how badly this years is scipted. The game is easy to crack but you always score and concede a stupid amount of goals.

you can see where pro got the idea for the netting from. Those nets are brilliantly realsitic. I actually watched that video three times in awe. For me this is something that has to be improved but i dont think they will see the importance of it.

its just nets i mean how many time you scored and actually noticed the nets..... i think the main gameplay is the conern.....the middle, defence, attack is the concern. the nets are fine in 2008.
^Yeah and they need to fix the stupid AI and the stupid idea of pace controlling the match (this really sucks).

to me tho if u look at the picture with brasil on the ball against argies. . . . the argies look like they avnt got a clue wat there doin. . . . runnin in any direction, ones runing to the brasil goal. . 2 in the midle gunna collide .. . same old same old!
I have been on FIFA forums and reading all there stuff about how FIFa is going to EAT PES. But to be honest look at this screenshot.
http://www.totalvideogames.com/screenshots/Pro_Evolution_Soccer_2009_8183 4.jpg
Look how realistic it moves. Look at the bald ones reaction after he misses the ball. Look at the shorts. how can this not be nicer than FIFA's models who have bigger hands then their heads. Just look at it for 10 sec. cause it's awesome
also look at the ball its goes into the grass not on the grass
Zoom on the face, well if that ain't details, then most people here are just pissed cause pes2008 sucked for them
^Agreed. That screenshot is awesome. The graphic details are superb.

the main thing u guys are forgetting is. . . . the pictures ur seeing apart from one. . . . is not actual game play, so it doesnt matter wha they look like, i dnt know bout u but i buy the game to play it. . . not to watch the intro. . .

You know... at first i thought they were from a trailer. But looking at previous trailers which look better and nicer, where the crowd is like going crazy. i don't really see that in this screen, so i am actually convinced this is ingame

Sorry to disappoint you but this is off course not a screenshot of the game itself but part of the intro-movie...

sorry, but the goal nets mean everything.
It is the pinnicle of the game imo! There is no feeling in the world when you see a ball hit the back of the net, wheather its your team or its against you.
When you see that net ripple you know something special has happened, it is what everyone in that stadium or watching on TV has come to see.
Its what we jump out of our seat and scream and shout for, i know the ball only has to cross the line for a goal to be scored but we all love it when the ball gets routed into the back of the net.
So yes the way the nets react and look does matter.:)

2008 nets just don't have the satisfaction factor

the gameplay is my main concern thats why i traded this years version for the ps2 game. For me the nets make the gameplay even more realistic as much as licensed boots or teams. Regarding the screen shots the pitch seems better but you cant tell much from them
Sorry to disappoint you but this is off course not a screenshot of the game itself but part of the intro-movie...
Oh, for the love of God!
You hear the same shit every year; "This is an intro pic", but I'll ask you, in the past three years when was the last time PES had an intro with graphics even remotely related to in game graphics?

Nice find, look at the shorts and compare to the in game footage of pes2009. These pics are definitely not from a trailer. Probably some FIFa fan boys created this rumor.
the game looks good the animation is good and i am confident the gameplay will be very good. And if it got license thats good for the fans but for me it really doesn't matter
also, i have been analyzing these screenshots. I think they are form different platforms. not just one platform.
