Thought I'd create an official Hull City thread. Not that it's destined to get an abundance of posts but maybe a few more now City made the Premiership than if they were still in the Championship.
First off, let me shed some light on my allegiance with Hull City and Newcastle United. When I was a nipper, getting into football, my Grandad used to take me to SJP a few times to watch the Toon, making them the first team I followed. When my Grandad got a little older he was unable to do this, I did too and started going to Boothferry Park to see Hull City given they're my hometown team, this was back when they were in the old third division. I've attended City games for years and was at Wembley in May for the play off final, so I'm hardly a plastic fan. I've always followed Hull City, although not to the degree that I follow Newcastle, and in all fairness when Newcastle were in the Champions League while City were struggling under the ownership of Martin Fish and the management of Terry Dolan I never thought I'd see the pair of them in the top flight together.
The official club thread isn't made because I'm now following City that they're in the Premiership, more that I'm sure a few more of you will contribute to the thread.
I hope you guys will contribute a little when the season kicks off.
'mon The Tigers.
Well, I enjoyed the 4-0 beating we gave you in the Carling Cup last season, so more of the same would be nice :P
Apart from that, good luck with your campaign. Nice to see some fresh teams (Hull & Stoke) in the Prem. Just don't pull a Derby.

Hull City have completed the signings of Peter Halmosi, George Boateng and Tony Warner ahead of the club's debut season in the England League.

It's good to see a Yorkshire team back in the top division. I will follow them and their results. I hope they stay up ;)

That was a strange one mate because at that point we weren't really contenders for promotion and it hit us that we're certainly not ready for the next level. Even now I'm not sure we are but what a fucking feeling to have won at Wembley and got the the Prem, I'll never forget that day.
I think we're buying relatively well though so far. Players with Premiership experience at least with the exception of Halmosi.

Absolutely, I agree but he's never played in the Prem.

I Hope Geo does well.
Good luck with Tony Warner. He's a good keeper and he'll save you a few times but he's ridiculously inconsistent and will mess up the easy stuff.
Expect him to make a couple of impossible saves just to confuse you though...

I'm sure he will mate, well he already has to be honest, he had a pretty good start with his debut at Blackpool last season until he got injured but with Deano and Fraizer Campbell up front he did really well coming off the bench with his pace and power. Really good signing.

Why did mister he's so good they named him twice leave Hull?
Why did mister he's so good they named him twice leave Hull?
The short answer is that he'd lost it.
He was only a bit part player last season...if you can even call him that, got very little playing time.
He'd said in February time that he'd be leaving at the end of the season, and when we won promotion he did a U-turn and asked to stay on another season.
...but Phil Brown let him leave and signed this guy instead

You heard anything about Marlon King, Ads? I've heard £3m. Decent player if you can keep him fit.
Also, some Hull fan come on our site giving it the big'un about how Coates and Pulis were pocketing the promotion money yesterday. This was about 20mins before the Kitson story broke on SSN. We all had a good laugh at that fella.
One of the decent Hull lads said you were tracking Niang from Marseille though?! I was shocked to say the least as that would be a brilliant signing. Really can't see that one though, no offence. Similar to the call-line claiming Pogrebnyak and Egor Titov were joining us!

If Bruce sells King to Hull it would be a mistake IMO. Selling him would then mean he would have to sign another 2 maybe 3 strikers aswell as Zaki. Bit strange if we sell King as he only joined January :erm:. Iv read on sky sports news that hes bid a record transfer which will mean its over 2 million that they paid for Peter Halmosi so anything above that.
Zaki on the verge to join Wigan. So Phil you don't have to worry although I think that Zaki would struggle in the premier league.

Hes passed the medical today. Wigan are ready to complete the year long loan deal with an optional 5 million pound deal at the end of the year loan deal if he impresses. To be honest wan i dont know what to expect from him as before we were interested in him id never heard of him but hopefully hes the goalscorer we have needed since bith Jason Roberts and Nathan Ellington left. Anyway wan dont mean to be nasty or anything but this is the Hull thread so if you want to carry it on go on my Wigan thread, Cheers.

Yeah apparently now the King signing could be quite close, I'd be delighted with that, obviously he's in a similar mould to Caleb Folan but they're both excellent players.
I'm really impressed with how Phil Brown is buying.
And yeah I got a couple of texts from mates back home about Niang, crock of shit if you ask me though mate, can't see that happening at all. Don't get me wrong, I'd be delighted, but I can't see it.
Squad is shaping up quite nicely for the season though.

Must be very re-assuring to see your squad taking shape so early on. Halmosi is a good signing as I've said, King would be an improvement on Folan, but his injuries would worry me given that he is supposedly on £40k p/w at Wigan. If I didn't have a strong faith in Pulis then I'd be very worried with us having just the one signing.
It's interesting to see how all the different teams are playing the market so differently. WBA securing a few loans on permanant deals, then buying European talent. Yous getting a few cheap deals for England League experienced players, Halmosi aside. And us seemingly biding our time until the ideal deal for a sensible price all around comes along. Given we're all going up in a similar position it's very curious to see how the gameplan and tactics in the window have been so un-alike.

True mate, it has been a very reassuring summer so far as far as transfer activity goes. Maybe another couple in too, still a huge, huge step though, especially since the season before last we were extremely close to relegation, we were becoming used to Championship football and all of a sudden we're in the big time, it's incredible.
I'll still be following the Championship closely, I honestly think it's one of the top 3 leagues in Europe.
As for Stoke, I think as a unit they're very strong, and Dave Kitson is a goal scorer, sometimes the difference between relegation and survival is a 15-20 goal a season man, and Dave Kitson is certainly that in my opinion.
Well I nipped over to Tynecastle yesterday and what the fuck for?
City were abysmal, as they were against Crewe the other week.
Could be a very long season.

I was going to try and get to Crewe to have a look at yous there with it being local, but I never bothered in the end. We've been pretty poor in a few pre-season games, although we can point the finger towards still needing to strengthen I suppose.
I still maintain that this relegation battle is going to be one of the closest and you can point to six or seven sides with realistic worries about the drop. Both of us are going to be in and around there, there's gonig to be so many twists and turns yet though. How many more additions do you reckon you need mate?

I'm not sure mate to be honest, in fairness before the Crewe match I was pretty pleased with the squad we had including the additions, not getting Fraizer on loan again is a blow as he was the difference last season between a play off place and lower-mid table.
Maybe one or two more new faces, you can never read too much into pre-season I guess but it hasn't gone well so far, hopefully we can both have good starts. Sounds obvious but if you can pick up a good few points in the opening weeks it lessens the risk of panic later on in the season.
I'll miss following the Championship as close this season but I'll remain a huge fan, fucking love that league.

Definitely man, we could have done a lot worse than Bolton for our first fixture! I think both of us require some good additions yet, but that element of surprise we're both gonig to have could give us the edge over a couple of games through August and September. The sooner you get points on the board the better morale around the clubs gets and then bigger things can follow with the thing snowballing.

Gutted mate! Our Bolton and Villa tickets were similar, although the Villa gme didn't go as fast. And the Notlob game was only a 2.8k allocation.

I certainly did mate, I'm a big fan of Tony Pulis, I love that tracky top and cap and glasses look that just screams lower league but he's pulling it off in the Premiership, you can't help but admire that.

Whilst i congratulate hull for where they are, and it has been an amazing start in the Premier League, Hull City have not played any of the top 3 yet and you beat newcastle - a club in turmoil, tottenham - who are in an even worse start, you got a draw at blackburn who have rookie manager in paul ince, and beat west brom a team who dont have any cutting edge up front
The result at arsenal was amazing dont get me wrong, but if u catch them on an off day anyone can beat arsenal
I just think that you played these teams at a good time and that's why you got 3 points, i hope you lot stay up - and u certainly will if this form carries on til christmas, in my predictions i thought you would stay up as well, just wish id put some bets on

It's all well and good saying clubs we played 'were in turmoil' and 'it was a good time to play them' but you still have to go out in the right frame of mind and try and get a result.
The win against Fulham, the draw at Blackburn, the win at Arsenal...in all of these games we fell a goal behind, there aren't many teams who will fall a goal behind at the Emirates and go on to win. As for them being on an off day, why where they? Because City stifled them, didn't allow them to play, there aren't many other ways to beat Arsenal.
Give Phil Brown and the boys a bit more credit eh? It's clever tactics and team selections, luck can maybe play a part in 2 or 3 games throughout a season but not the opening 9 games of a season, we're where we are now on merit, not luck.

Well actually no one did at the emirates last season.
'Mon the Incredible Hull!
Skysports
a trip to fellow title challengers Hull City at the KC Stadium is one few sides will relish.
Would be something to take points off Chelsea.

I think it is rather amusing watching Hull pick up wins despite them not playing that well.
I'm expecting a few players will be leaving soon. Geovanni to someone like Fulham etc...
He'd be stupid to move. He's got a good thing going. Plus at this moment in time it looks more likely that Fulham will be battling relegation where as Hull wont. So I suspect any other team that you'd put under the same category as Fulham will possibly be doing the same.

I guess your right.
But it's a funny situation with Hull. You never know if they are going to just collapse and start losing every game. It's possible with new teams.
I predict that Hull will get hammered against Chelsea, and will then finish about 13th come the end of the season. It'd be nice if they managed higher finish though.

The most impressive thing is that after the stuffing Wigan gave them, they've come back and got some cracking results. That's a credit to everyone at the club they haven't imploded as it could've easily happened.
100% record against London sides too.
