Microsoft confirms revised 360 d-pad News
News by Tom Bramwell

Microsoft has confirmed our earlier report that it plans to release a new Xbox 360 controller with an improved d-pad on 24th October.

We found the pad and photographed it on Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer stand, and Microsoft confirms the pad is "optimised" for the football series.

"The new limited-edition green wireless controller offers enhancements to d-Pad functionality, which will add to the experience of playing games where the d-Pad is the primary control mechanism," Microsoft told Eurogamer.

"We're always looking to improve products and we made these changes based on feedback from gamers."

However, the new pad is "a limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last", which is likely to upset fans who feel the d-pad needs full-time replacement rather than a one-off patch for PES.

Speaking to Eurogamer at Games Convention, one third-party publisher told us that the pad was also designed to work with Street Fighter IV, so perhaps it will turn up again next year.

Could not find any pictures as of yet but this seems very interesting. No more octodirectional movement?

EDIT: Original article found on WENB linking to the full article:

A total surprise, but something that many Xbox 360 PES players I’m sure will welcome. Eurogamer have reported that Microsoft have confirmed a new controller to be released alongside PES 2009, that has an improved d-pad!

Going from 4 way to 32 directions, it should certainly make for a better playing experience for those who can’t get used to using analogue control!

Yeah i remember when i first got my Xbox 360, i was laying PES6 and it was fucking impossible to run using the d-pad and was forced to use the sticks which i couldn't use as i was new to them, bout time they changed the controller, don't like the idea of it being green though mind.

Not sure if I'll buy it to be honest, I use the analog for PES now anyway. May purchase it though depending on the price.

I use the analogue and much prefer that.

I didn't find anything wrong with the current 360 controller. It's comfortable and certainly better than the ps3 controller. Now I'll wait for this one. If someone finds some pictures I'd like to see them.

Lovely shade of green that

More importantly, I think we're in-store for poor goalkeeping once again. Although it was Ricardo so it is kindda realistic.

He had it on quite a low difficulty setting though, so maybe that's why the goalkeeping was bad. Well, I'm hoping that's why.

He had it on the difficulty that is the equivalent of playing you.

As I said somewhere else. Maybe the mistakes just happens much less than in 08. Maybe that was one of the few. Besides no one's perfect. Even the world's best goalkeeper (Buffon) can make a mistake like that. It's actually reality.
