But you have a really good chance of retaining the trophy.
True, but knowing that with each step closer to the final we get, that they do to, wouldn't do good things to my heart. Beating them in the final would be easily the best feeling I could ever come across in my lifetime, but losing to them would leave me pretty suicidal.
We can play Liverpool in the Final! :w00t
Just as I imagined, oh lord, my heart is pounding already at the thought. Have to not get ahead of ourselves though and take our eye off the ball, which is smashing Porto. Still though...
:w00t
How do people think the draw will go? All random I know (or at least, I hope..), but I say:
Villarreal vs Arsenal
Bayern Munich vs Barcelona
-------------
Chelsea vs Man United
Liverpool vs Porto
Not a bad prediction it must be said!

He got 1 right out of 4. Saying that, I shouldn't be mocking since I forgot to make my predictions.

Two. Or are you really being so harsh as to say his Bayern v Barca prediction was wrong as he didn't get the home team correct?
Oh shite, missed that. Got to go now anyway, my failboat is boarding.

I'd happily see Man Utd go out now if it meant Liverpool doing so too.
I sense much fear in you.

It's something I've always had when it comes to us playing against the smaller teams.
Not a bad prediction it must be said!
And I'm much happier the way it turned out. :w00t
Pretty much the perfect draw. Now do us a favour Chelsea!
Villarreal v Arsenal
Manchester United v FC Porto
Liverpool v Chelsea
Barcelona v Bayern Munich
Arsenal v Manchester United
Liverpool v Barcelona
Manchester United v Liverpool
I like the way your thinking!! :)
He's an Arsenal fan. No doubt he'll get it completely fucking wrong.
Disappointing quarter final ties compared to last season's, especially the Chelsea-Liverpool tie. Villareal will be a test for Arsenal. United should progress comfortably. Like to see Barcelona or Bayern make the final, though I think they'll fail to get past Chelsea or Liverpool.
Tie of the round - Barcelona-Bayern.

Great tie for us. Can't believe Liverpool will meet Chelsea again. Barca vs Bayern will be great.
My predictions are
Villarreal v Arsenal
Manchester United v FC Porto
Liverpool v Chelsea
Barcelona v Bayern Munich
Arsenal v Manchester United
Chelsea v Barcelona
Manchester United v Barcelona
My dream:
Villarreal v Arsenal
Manchester United v FC Porto
Liverpool v Chelsea
Barcelona v Bayern Munich (no preference)
Villareal v FC Porto
Chelsea v Barcelona/Bayern Munich
Villareal v Barcelona/Bayern Munich (no preference)
Never going to happen.
I thought you'd rather Barca to progress than Bayern, as Bayern fans seem to not like Milan. I remember reading fan vs fan on goal.com when Bayern and Milan had to face of in the quarter finals 2 years ago, and the Bayern fan was so disrespectful towards Milan.
That Bayern fan was a complete cunt and Klinsmann's comments on Serie A haven't helped but they do have Luca Toni and the German media are happy to heap praise on him. I also have no problem with Ribery (he's not anti-Italian like Domenech) and respect the likes of Klose.
Barcelona remain the true bastion of hope for anyone not wanting an English side to win the competition.
Liverpool drew Man United and Chelsea - Arsenal in the rehearsal.
Platini carried out that draw.

Bit slow on the uptake? Like...a few years? Pretty poor attempt at sarcasm if not and therefore a bit of a pointless post.
Still, even if I were not a fan of a league (Serie A for example I find boring) I would still prefer Inter or AC to go through over a lesser team (if my team had already been knocked out). Makes for more entertaining semi finals, and avoids us having another Monaco vs Porto type final.

I agree Monaco-Porto was a bit wank in comparison with great European finals involving at least one giant but by the same token I'm hoping for one out of Barcelona or Bayern to be there.
Thankfully, Villareal can't meet Porto in the final. That'd be another odd one and I hate scummy Porto. I still don't understand how they weren't relegated given that Boavista were and did fuck all in comparison. At least in the previous instance (Italy, for shame) the most guilty team were relegated and the lesser teams spared a division drop. Portugal's went the other way.
Porto did get lucky, and I too would like to see Bayern in the final (a repeat of the 99 final actually, apart from us getting run ragged at times). A Porto or/and Villareal win would be a huge upset, and would make the headlines but only for a few days. When the final comes, and Porto or Villareal are there it takes away from the magic of the final for me.
I don't really enjoy seeing two teams from the same country playing each other either aside from special circumstances (Milan derby, all-Spanish, Italian or English final).
Liverpool-Chelsea, which I clearly won't be watching, makes me want to hang myself. I'm sure the first United-Liverpool tie would be special but if it happened again the following year, it'd begin to get boring - fast.
My dislike of English sides is related to Sky Sports and the generation of people they've left entirely ignorant and uneducated on many levels. You only have to listen to Andy Gray talking about any Italian team for about eight seconds before you can tell he's no idea whatsoever. We're obviously weaker but for how long will people keep claiming poor defending isn't associated with Italian teams and we all go for a 1-0? Its quite simply not true. Our defences are shifty and few of us are happy to defend at 1-0.
I doubt a Utd vs Liverpool in the CL would ever get boring. Is like saying Real vs Barca would, because it wouldn't; the rivalry's too fierce.
I don't listen to Andy Gray about English football. His head's so far up Gerrard's ass he can't speak sense.
That chap that used to present Italian football on C4 was class. Believe he's on Setanta now.

James Richardon, he's doing something somewhere yes. See, when Ray Wilkins criticises Italian football on Sky that's fair enough because he actually gives two shits about the league and knows what he's talking about. The same goes for the likes of Richardson - people who know. Richard Keys, Andy Gray, Graeme Souness et al have done so much to intensify my dislike for English clubs its frightening.
James Richardson, that's it. He's quality. Easily my favourite presenter/commentator.
I can't stand Wilkins. Souness ain't too bad, even if he is a Scouse prick.
Man Utd look like they are in the mood for conceding goals.
So disinterested have I been due to Milan's lack of ability to even qualify for the tournament, I forgot there were games tonight :faceplm:

Bruno Alves, you fool.
Fu*king Adebayor needs to be taught the offside rule.
Porto are playing quality man.
I love this sort of game!
Hulk is very annoying. Goes down far too easily.

Lucky for him, he got it right.
I would have raged like only a comic book geek can if he didn't.
That damn Tevez.
Just saw Adebayor's goal. Pretty damn nice.
Edit: Ouch! I was going to laugh, but realised we haven't played our game yet and could get a bumming tomorrow.
If we can get two away goals tomorrow, I'll be so happy.

Man Utd-Porto looks 50/50 now for who goes through. Porto have never lost at home to an English team. Utd's defence hasn't been what it was before Liverpool stuck 4 past them.

No way, he was the strongest man on the field and he put up with some pretty rough tackles. Not to mention that he was denied a stonewall penalty.

Senna's was a great strike but Adebayor had to have great technique to control the ball and then have the skill to finish it off.

Aly Cissokho, Porto left back, MOTM imo, excellent game!
Hmm, but the way Senna hit the ball. You could tell he meant it, rather than to hit and hope.
Maybe Peter Crouch has ruined the image of the bicycle kick for me :ninja:
God I hope we destroy those assholes tonight. If Drogba plays like he can tonight, I predict Skrtel will be in tears at the end of the night.
If we lose, I hope the scoreline will be 3-2. I'll be very happy with 2-2. A win would be a bonus for me.
That Adebayor bicycle was magnificent - it would rank up there when I have to pick a goal of the season.

Come on Bayern! Make a game of it.
Should've been a pen. Henry on the keeper looked painful.
I think we can see half why Wolfsburg hit five and half why Barcelona are such a stunning offensive outfit.
Brilliant to watch and Guardiola's reaction to Messi's disallowed penalty and subsequent booking for simulation was brilliant.

I'm pissed off with Bayern, almost as much as I was with Arsenal in the first half, last night.
4-0?! WTF
If we had not gone into half time without a goal, I'd have felt robbed. Whole team is playing well, even Malouda and that is saying something.
It has to be the best half of a Liverpool vs Chelsea game that I've seen.
Great game so far. Chelsea deserve to be at least level. If Drogba showed a bit more composure and better decision making, they could be winning.
Barca....wow. Looks like that stroll against Sporting did Bayern no favours, they needed to be tested. Seems a good time to play them after Wolfsburg stuck 5 past them.
Can't remember the last time all 4 quarter finals were so open and entertaining, bit too open at Camp Nou.

Barcelona should have more than four. They're all over Bayern who can't cope, aren't helping themselves and have barely strung an attack together.
Do us all a favour and win at Anfield.
Sporting must be loving this thrashing of Bayern

This has been an excellent round, so far.

Chelsea played us off the pitch tonight. Fair play to them, they deserved it. If we don't pick ourselves up for the weekend, we'll be out of two competitions in 4 days with nothing left to play for.
It's probably about time someone did this to Liverpool in Europe. Skeletor Skrtel continues to piss me off. Best performance from Chelsea all season in my opinion.
Luca Toni must be the only Bayern player to come away from tonight with any credit as he got virtually no service and did well with what scraps he did get.

Ribery did a couple of promising things but he's the one who should supply the ball to Toni and a lot of the time that service to Toni really didn't come. Bayern couldn't regularly get the ball to Ribery either but as he's got the responsibility of getting possession as well as being creative, that obviously retracts from his performance.
Skeletor Skrtel continues to piss me off.
What is it you don't like about him? I think he's become a top class centre-back since his 'mare debut. Very rarely have I seen anyone boss him about. Carra and Skrtel have formed a great partnership too and disrupting it now wouldn't be worth it.
I really like Agger, and if there's one player I want to play more games it's him, he offers a threat from corners which no fucker else does, and he can play the ball out of the defence as good as anyone, but like I said, splitting up a pairing is never wise. Also I have doubts about his attitude and I've read unsavoury stories. He'll be gone in the summer I'm afraid. And our loss will be somebody else's great dane.
Oh God, I'm great.

Like you've mentioned, I'm a big fan of Agger and just don't think Skrtel is better than him. If Liverpool don't want him, I'll be delighted to see him at Arsenal.
On the whole, Skrtel has done well but there always seems to be quite a few occasions when his positioning lets him down. Your right though, it wouldn't make sense to change the CB partnership now.
And the joke at the end, I'm sure get Dragonfly's stamp of approval.

Agger brings a lot more intelligence and rearguard attacking threat to the game than Skrtel, but god, what a battering ram Skrtel can be. Every English team needs a big, unsavory bastard in their defense. Liverpool can't really afford to lose Agger, either, what with Hyypia hitting 36 this year and already effectively out of the team, and Carragher not far behind in terms of age. If Skrtel and Agger can get a partnership going, it should be long and formidable.
*must not say "That's what she said", must not say...damn it.*
Luca Toni must be the only Bayern player to come away from tonight with any credit as he got virtually no service and did well with what scraps he did get.
He has that patented Italian 'whole world against me' look when things aren't working out.
Some bad tactics by Klinsmann I say; there was no organization, no cohesion and that zone-ish defense is working wonders obviously.
I thought Ribery was their best player. He pulled a good few moves and created the majority of their chances.
I thought Ribery was their best player. He pulled a good few moves and created the majority of their chances.
 Could very well be doing that for us come next season.
I'm not looking forward to the prospect of Chelsea in the semis although the tie has lost that little something since Jose has gone.
Can't see Liverpool pulling this out of the bag as much as some of their fans think. Yes we remember what happened against Milan, yes we remember the score at Old Trafford but seriously be realists. I wouldn't risk Gerrard for this.
Let's just hope it's a hardcore match were half of each team's key players pick up some mild injuries and loads of cards.
Indeed. Either off the two will be the hardest opposition we have come up against so far this season.
I'm far too relaxed about tonight's game although I think it's fair to be. Hell half the Bayern team have said it's game over already.
Your tie is game over. If Bayern somehow score 4, I'm sure you'll score at least 3 anyway.
And yeah, if we do get through, then our tie won't be the same as when Jose was around. Which for me is a bit of a shame, as it was always dramtic and quite funny to look back on

But he was afraid to accept it. Pussy.

They will get a 3rd. It's up to us to get 2 goals before that.
The thing that hurts the most is the fouls were so avoidable. Carvalho did not need to push Torres at all and with the size of Ivanovic, he did not need to hold Alonso.
Hopefully Guus threatens their lives and things change in the second half.

Can't believe I'm stuck watching Barça. Never thought I'd say that.
Chelsea aren't trying to keep possession for long enough. They're obviously rattled but giving the ball away in desperate attempts to break and make it 4-4 aren probably becoming too risky. Keeping it to structured attacks would be much more suitable.

I can't really say much, because I am recovering, but Drogba is awesome, Malouda has been fantastic in these two ties, Frank is brilliant and Essien saved us from a lot of pressure with that goal line clearance.
Carvalho was disgusting and I will be joining in with Mullet the next time he rants on Cech.
Edit: Also, I may hate Liverpool, but credit to them. They are a great side.
I don't really want to think about the games yet. I can't see it being like the Chelsea Liverpool tie, I really hope it isn't at least. My heart wouldn't be able to take that.
Oh what a game.
I'm absolutely buzzing. Much like Joe Cole in the studio
You know i dont feel so bad about going out because im so proud of our lads, you just have to give both sides so much credit for an absolutely crazy game of football.
As much as we gave it a real go the tie was lost in the 1st tie, 4-4 is normally a decent away result.
Just gotta go flat out for the Prem now, after all thats the trophy we really want. If we were to get it our season would still be a massive success.
I can not believe that a Chelsea vs Liverpool game will go go down as one of the top 10 games in Champions League history.

That really is unbelievable.
One of the best 2 leg European ties I've ever seen. Well done to both sides.

19 goals in the last three Chelsea games. :/ Ugh, four goals conceded at home. Yet I don't care. Don't even want to think of how many goals are going to be in the Barca tie.

We won't put Bosingwa, one of our worst defenders, out of position against Messi, no. That'd be the biggest raping of all time.
I just thought Carvalho made a few needless errors tonight and was at fault for two goals.
As I said for the first goal, he gave away a fre kick that could have been avoided. And it's a bit harsh to blame him for their fourth, but he was out powered a bit too easy by Kuyt. Kuyt definitely wanted it more.
He also gave away the ball a lot. At one point he done one of his "Riccy runs", but lost the ball to Torres. It didn't lead to a goal, but still.
He's just come back from injury though, so I am being too hard on him. Just I know what he is capable of, so a mistake from him is rather shocking for me.
Agreed with Alex though. He's seriously banging on that first team door. I will never get tired of seeing that free kick. Just wish I saw it and the game in person :(

That was one of the most exhilarating games I've ever witnessed and I'm a neutral. I can only imagine how my heart would have handled that excitement if I was a Chelsea or Liverpool supporter.
Is Mikel fit? I can imagine Essien man-marking Messi. He's got the pace, strength and focus to do it. I'm not convinced anyone else could do it as well.

Essien v Ronaldo wasnt all that spectacular for Chelsea fans.
I just get the feeling this could be Chelsea's year. It's been the semis 2 seasons ago then the final last year so I just feel this year they'll go that one step further. I've said it before, I put La Liga above this this year so if we have to go out to Chelsea now I wont be too saddened as long as we win La Liga.
I'm hoping we do put on a great display and show many pundits in England that there is life outside of the big four in England.
Either way it'll be a great tie and may the best team win.
Also right now the man Chelsea need to watch is Iniesta. He's been Messi's equal since his return from injury.
Who am I kidding I don't want this Barça to be the Dutch team of the 70's, we need to win this!

Ronaldo was very dominant early on. He got his goal and then wasn't seen until he had his penalty saved.

I thought with the Final being in Russia, it was our year, last season. Obviously not.
If we lose this Saturday, this will be our only chance of silverware. So it's going to be very interesting.
Arsenal-Barcelona final where Henry either proves or fails to prove his move was the right one?
Can't trust fucking Porto to do anything right.

I hate Porto and even worse, on every one of those rare occasions I want them to bloody win - well, bar once when they knocked out United - they lose like the fuckwits they are.
I've seen enough of your posts in the Other European Leagues thread to know you hate Porto - This is probably an understatement!
Still, they could still get a last minute winner. They've done it before, they may be able to do it again. Right? :erm:

No, they're losing just to spite me. Cunts! They should be down in the second division anyway the cheating arsebandits.
Guess you're right, Sweey :(
So if we somehow make it past Barcelona, we face English opposition in the final again - *sigh*
On paper, extremely tasty ties that could go either way. 3 English teams in the semis for 3rd successive year. :/
I'm really worried about facing the Arsenal attacking force at the moment.
Are you worried about their defense?
I know I'm not.
Brilliant. Brilliant result, great performance from everyone. The likes of Fabianski, Silvestre and Gibbs, who I was concerned about beforehand were outstanding. And Song, fuck if he keeps playing like he has been the last couple months, the hunt for a holding midfielder in the summer could be put on hold. Walcott's 1st half performance was one of the best he played for us.
The 3rd goal was never a penalty but we were comfortable winners. Can't remember any clear cut chances for Villareal. Fitting that Pires had the last touch of the game.
The games v Man Utd looks tasty. Their usually great games in the league, glad the 2nd leg is at home.

As does Arsenal - Barca. We've played against Pires, now it's time for Henry ;)
I've always thought 'What If?' after the 2006 final. If Lehmann hadn't been sent off, if Henry had scored those clear 1 on 1 chances. That game had the potential to be a classic final, it would be awesome to see it happen.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Considering going to the Nou Camp if I can get the time off. I've never been so un-optimistic about a tie in my life tbh, I want it more than ever though and I hope the players do too.
I'd love to put Essien against Messi but we can't afford to take him out of midfield. In an ideal world we'd have 10 Essiens on the pitch! I'd probably just put Ivanovic at left-back, maybe Ferreira.

Essien at left or right-back, I don't see it working. Barca's real (not as opposed to weak but rather less-strong/vital) strength is their midfield, you could try to put him on Xavi and put a more defensive left-winger in that can keep up with Alves.

Barcelona have over-played in some situations and Henry was far too greedy in the first half.
EDIT: Eto'o, come to Milan!! (AC, not Inter :erm:)
EDIT 2: This is another one of those instances where if an Italian side ever plays like Chelsea have (and there's nothing wrong with what Chelsea have done) you'd have all those old stereotypes coming out and Andy Gray (tomorrow) harping on about how they were playing for the draw and want to win the tie on penalties, even at this early stage. I'm sure you'd have someone (Townsend, Keys) saying the Italian side would be an undeserving winner of the tie or tournament.

It's just so bloody frustrating. Maybe I'm spoilt with attacking football but this was such an anti climax. Even Guus Hidding said they would go out and attack.
Lying bastard.
Gotta give credit to the way Chelsea defended. 0-0 still isn't a bad result for Barca, Chelsea will surely look to attack, at least a bit more in the 2nd leg, which should mean more gaps for Barca to exploit. Terry, Ivanovic, Alex, Bosingwa all defended brilliantly. If greedy cunt Eto'o just looked up for a change, he would have seen Henry wide open in the middle, waiting for a tap in.
Hleb had 2 shots in a game, that must be a record.
I've yelled quite a few scathing remarks at the television, mostly aimed at the referee, Bojan, various Chelsea players and their families.

catenaccio at its finest, well played by chelsea as ive stated earlier due to our success in applying the similar strategy they should have adopted it but stamford bridge isnt like the old fortress it used to be, interesting see how they grab the game at home. We fortunate that scholes had a peach of a goal to send us through.
Excited for the Arsenal game.
Would have preferred a 1-1, but oh well.
No it was not a good footballing display from Chelsea, but that was mainly down to Barcelona having the ball for the majority of the game. Everytime we'd have a goal kick, Barca would win the second ball and it was straight back down to our end. Or we would have the ball and then do something silly such as a bad pass, or poor control. I'm not saying thatour game wasn't set up to be defensive, but the way Barcelona ALWAYS had the ball, we didn't have much choice.
I'm not too confident for the game at Stamford Bridge. I can see a score draw.

I'm totally over it.
:ninja:
Henry's right foot slides before Bosingwa touches him, so I think that's why he falls. It would be a very harsh penalty if given.
In all seriousness, did Henry even appeal?

I dunno about correct choice for the barca game, pep raised a good point in that there should of been a greater discrepancy in cards considering the way chelsea played.
No one hear the Arsenal fans singing "Liverpool, Liverpool..." last night then ? Their fans are so shit that they have to resort to singing other teams songs in order to create an atmosphere. Then there was Graeme Souness claiming Wenger would be delighted with last night, despite his team being beat and playing piss poor for the most part.
Emirates here we come.
