Impressive first season for Pep Guardiola. Well done.
Rooney is uniteds key player, and just didnt turn up, along with the other united forward, thats quite simply becuase barca controlled the majority of the game
Man Utd lost the game in midfield, Carrick didn't turn up and Anderson is shit. Giggs is miles over the hill and they probably missed Fletcher. In contrast Xavi and Iniesta were sublime even with Busquets in there and after they lost the goal didn't have a chance especially with Ronaldo thinking he is some kind of demi-god instead of a team player.

I was so glad to see him flop and lose his cool. He wanted to be the legend of the game and even Ferguson saw it. I thought he very good for the first ten minutes, though.
Quite simply barca controlled the game after the first 10 minutes

A humbling of the highest order is what that was.
I have always considered Manchester United a team capable of turning the screw - when needed - against anyone. Tonight, they came up against a team so utterly capable, professional and full of self-belief that they were never in it (barring the opening 10 minutes, before Barcelona settled).
I have never seen Manchester United not have a decent spell of posession, where they put pressure on the opposition, for an entire game like that. Even if it was only to be a 5 minute spell, with United it generally can prove to be decisive.
The fact that Barcelona weren't spectacular, yet were so clearly superior, is testament to what a good side they are. The first touch throughout their team is brilliant, as is their decision-making.
That will be a gif made out of that by tomorrow, mark my words!
And To think, they were 30 seconds from going out
If it wasn't for the god that is Iniesta (although he should have been banned for tonight).
Can't argue with the scoreline; just didn't turn up.
To get this far, and after putting in the performances we did against Arsenal, I can't believe how not a single player of ours turned up. Shocking.
Congratulations go to Barca, bar Puyol.

i was so disappointed in carricks performance...little parky too.
Messi can't head the ball. Oh and he can't play against English teams. Xavi and Iniesta are overrated, Fabregas should be starting for Spain. Barca's makeshift defence isn't good enough and United's strong back four is too good for them.
Don't you love the English press?
I know, thats all I heard from my mates too.
I watched the first 9 minutes on Sky and just couldnt take anymore of the shite they were talking, more or less ALL United having a better bench and all that/Barcas makeshift defence, so I changed the ITV3 - Commentary wasnt much better mind you (Pleat).
http://www.dreamsofmytiger.com/pictars/Pique.jpeg
Man of the match, right there. Solid and kept a level head throughout, despite the burden of the early booking. I haven't seen a centre back pass the ball that well in so long.
Fantastic game and a much deserved victory for the best team in the world.
Aye, that man was brilliant tonight. Cool on the ball, headed all the crosses, blocked everything and stopped Park from a tap in.
Urgh.
Tried to accommodate to Barca's playing style instead of playing our own way; quick counter-attacking from one box to the other in an instant. Certainly not dozens of passes between the defence before an overhit waste.
Ronaldo and Rooney were just nowhere. Even in the dominant first 10 minutes Ronaldo was greedy, shooting on sight instead of picking out a pass. They both need to re-asses how the offside rule works. How can we test a depleted defence if we can't even stay onside?
Vidic put in a horror show with Eto'o's (jeez, two apostrophes) goal, it just got worse on every viewing. Pique come back plz. Immaculate display by him.
How was the viewing for neutrals? I was hurting throughout, but didn't think it was that marvellous. Even Barca had a fair amount of stray passes. Their cutting edge in the final third was the major difference on the night.
Puyol put in a defensive masterclass. I just wish he had nutted Ronaldo for being such a fucking cunt.
Ronaldo being a cunt? For once he was actually ok. As for his booking; if it had been a defender doing the exact same thing you wouldn't have seen a free kick given.
I just can't stand the uglier looking twin brother of Alan Davies.
Btw, that's how you're gracious in defeat...
Urgh.

It was just a brilliant game to watch, barca's passing was a joy

How was the viewing for neutrals? .
Oh it was brilliant, loved every minute of it. Except for Ronaldo's cuntness. But I do hate him anyway, so I suppose that doesn't help.
As for his booking; if it had been a defender doing the exact same thing you wouldn't have seen a free kick given.
Was that when he pushed Puyol over into the barriers for no reason, even though he wasn't going to get the ball?
Into the barriers? Jog on.
Into the barriers? Jog on.
Advertisment boards is probably a better way to put it.
Gracious in defeat? lulz.
The shoulder barge was sideways, on the pitch. If Puyol did end up in the "advertisement boards" then it was more through his diving than the impact.
I was talking about our team being gracious, in reference to the Chelsea players and staff (bar good ol' Guus).

Yeah true say, most of them are.

I expected less from him :shifty: Only joking
I must be different from others because I thought it wasn't that great a game. It was good but I actually prefered last year's final.
Absolutely delighted for Henry. So long overdue and completely deserved. Also happy for Silvinho, not so much Hleb ;). Utd just were stunned after Eto'o's goal. They actually started well before that but after it went in, I can't remember the last time I saw Utd play so poorly, in any game let alone a final. So many loose balls, Carrick in particular was poor.
On to Barca. Iniesta was always a great player but for me he has become truly world class this year and is up there in the best players in the world. Xavi, Messi, 3 of the very best in world football right now. Pique had a great game and is probably Spain's best defender now.
But over the season, not just today, Barca have deserved it for the football and sheer entertainment they've brought all of us. A season I'll never forget from them, the best in their history and up there in being one of the best club teams ever.
Barca not playing ANYWHERE near their best, but literally strolling to defeat really shows how little resitance we put up.
Obviously it's gutwrenching to lose a first European final; so much worse than a domestic cup final as you have to bet past much, much better opposition to just make the final. Had we made a decent account of ourselves, yet still lost (even by a bigger scoreline), I wouldn't feel as bad. But to get this far and give up after ten minutes? A few players need to take a look at themselves and ask the question of whether they gave their all; I don't think a single player could say that they did :(

why i oughta!!!
Painful to watch that.
I didn't think I'd be raged if we lost as it would be to Barcelona, and not an English team like Liverpool. Yet I'm hugely pissed off to be honest, primarily because we played absolutely pathetic. Our defence was nothing short of a shambles, especially our full backs, they were coasted past every single time and I can't even count the number of times they were out of position. There is no way Rio Ferdinand could have been fully fit tonight, he looked terrible, and was caught in no mans land when Messi scored that header - immediately haunting me of Crespo's years back in the Champions League.
Our play was sloppy in midfield, and our pressing forward lacked any sort of cutting edge or common sense. Several times we had the wide-man available, only for Ronaldo to twist and turn into players, or attempt a 40 yard strike. Fair enough he put in great effort and was arguably our best performer tonight, it was obvious he wanted to win, but his decision making again let us down on occasions. Rooney on the other hand looked a shadow, Anderson non-existant, Carrick passed more to the opposition, Giggs didn't do much wrong yet not much right either - generally coasting about.
Overall, we were pressing Barca superbly and looked very dominant up until they scored around the 10 minute mark. We were shocked, cagey, shitting ourselves and all over the place.
Really is hard to take when you know that the team has been excellent all tournament, only to admit defeat after 10 minutes of the final and roll over.
PS: Puyol is a soft cunt.

If it wasn't for the god that is Iniesta (although he should have been banned for tonight).
I don't know whether he was booked for taking his shirt off against us, but he was not on two yellow cards, so that is not an issue. He wasn't banned and he shouldn't have been banned.
I was talking about our team being gracious, in reference to the Chelsea players and staff (bar good ol' Guus).
Wow, that is a stupid comparison. I don't condone Drogba and Ballack's actions, but our situation and yours was completely different. A million miles apart.
Obviously it's gutwrenching to lose a first European final; so much worse than a domestic cup final as you have to bet past much, much better opposition to just make the final.
I find this comment pretty amusing. Last year, you came in to the Chelsea thread and actually had the nerve to say you know what it feels like, as Man Utd lost a FA Cup Final on penalties to Arsenal before. I told you it's completely different, but you stuck to your word. A difference a year makes, eh?
I wanted Barca to win this final, but I won't laugh at Man Utd, as I know what it feels like. It fucking sucks to get right to the end and then leave empty handed. At least you have a Prem League title to make you feel a bit happy. You've also got three Champions League titles.
Everything has been said about the game already, so I won't go in to that. This Barca team is just amazing. You don't realise how good they are until your team plays them. It's so frustrating wanting your team to do something, but realising that they can't because Barca have the ball and don't look like losing it.
A treble in his first year of first team management. You've got to say there is something special about Guardiola.

credit is due to guardiola, but he inherited a brilliant squad on the cusps of great things with some flaws of certain individuals holding them back. If i may just piss on the pep parade.
Hes literally won all there is to be won with barca in his first season and if they can do the unthinkable and spur this amazing team to achieve more (Double-Triple) then hats of to him. But imo i still see the same Barca team that was under rijkaard that made it to the semis last season playing the same football.

big balls getting rid of ronaldinho and deco imo. plus the signing of pique was a surprise to me but yeah i agree with you. i wanna see what his transfer dealings will be in the summer
Pep still had some big decisions to make. He could have easily just kept Deco and Ronaldinho, but he realised there would not progress by doing this.
He wanted to get rid of Eto'o, as last season he was pretty poor by his standards and he also slated the team. But Eto'o stayed and Pep got him playing his best football again.
He's instilled self belief in the players, he trusted a lot of youth players and has just got everything clicking again. Having a great squad is one thing, getting it to work is another.

Carrick was poor throughout.
Anderson????
Vidic should have done better with the first, though Carrick shouldn't have given it away and Anderson should have closed Iniesta down quicker.
Iniesta was brilliant, absolutely fantastic player. I watched most of the build up and a show last night and all the talk was about Messi and Ronaldo, what a load of wank that was, I couldn't believe how little Iniesta was mentioned, Henry too.
Brace fully deserved that win as they were outstanding, they didn't even look like they were tryig they were that good.

Thank you Barcelona, thank you so much.
Agree with Sean about Iniesta. Pep was spot on when he said to Xavi that Iniesta will retire them both.
I just can't understand how little Man Yoo pressed. Look at the second and how much time does Xavi have to get the cross over!? How little they got at Sylvinho was odd I thought, too. And after Pique picked a card up so soon, I'm surprised Ronaldo wasn't instructed to go at him and make him commit every time.
Rooney was shocking though.
Hopefully we'll not hear this Ronaldo being the best player in the world shite for a bit now.

I say let's not get carried away; Iniesta is fantastic but Messi is the best player in the world :smug:
And Xavi....ooh  Surprised at how tactically inept Man Utd was, of course they were shocked after that first goal out of nowhere but like mentioned before there was no pressing at all.
Man Utd's performance was of no surprise to me, it has been coming.
The way I talk about seems as if I hate them, I don't. I respect them, they are a top side. Its just this perception of them being some sort of legendary side, which they clearly are not that annoys me. And if people can't see that after yesterdays game I will accept that they never will.

I can see your point. Personally I've felt there isn't much difference in strength between Man Utd with Liverpool and Chelsea. It just comes down to consistency (in the league). Liverpool only lost 2 league games, the year before Arsenal only lost 3. Utd have always had the habit of grinding out results, something they've always been better at doing than any other team.
Also, when you look at their last 2 CL finals. Bayern battered them really for 89 minutes and should of had the game won, but of course those crazy last few minutes decided it. And last year, Chelsea should have won in my opinion too. Lampard hit the bar in E.T and one slip from Terry cost them the trophy. So for as great a team they have been and are, things have always seemed to go their way in certain occasions.
But, like Spain winning Euro 2008, it's great when you see a team being rewarded for playing the game the way Barca do.

That is thier main quality and it enables them to win even when they do not "deserve" it. Much like the Allardyce teams of the past they just do it with better players and therefor get better results.

I hate the club stands for yes. Not hate the team, the way the manager took the defeat was admirable.
I don't hate them really, but I've always somewhat despised them, perhaps out of jealousy. Every year, there's that same group of players that seems to have been there forever. Sir Alex, Scholes, Neville, Ferdinand, Rooney; there's a continuity there that makes them so much less interesting, though obviously succesful and what many teams would die for; I think Ajax would ritually slaughter Johan Cruijff for that.
It all seems so controlled, so very 'modern football'. It's irrational but I can't help it.

I feel exactly the same, mate. I actually think they're one of the best football teams in the world - now second to Barcelona - and have done for years, with Alex Ferguson being the best manager of his era. Some of the players' and fans' smugness over the years has irritated me and even if they were a purely humble team, that would also get on my man boobs. My dislike for them is a mix of jealousy and boredom of their constant success. If Barcelona were to continue to win everything in sight for the next decade, I'd probably end up disliking them, too. I prefer football to have more surprises, that's why I thought the first few months of the season were exhilirating, with smaller teams testing and upsetting the big boys (Champions League and domestic).

A Manchester United fan in Nigeria killed four people when he drove his minibus into a crowd of Barcelona supporters after his team lost the Champions League final, police said on Thursday.
The crowd in the town of Ogbo were celebrating Barcelona's victory after Wednesday night's match when the bus drove into them. A police spokeswoman said 10 people were injured and the driver was arrested.
"The driver had passed the crowd then made a U-turn and ran into them," she said.
Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 in what was hailed as a "dream final" between two of Europe's best clubs. Both teams have large fan bases in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation.

I'm with you very much on that one. The media makes out Utd are far and away the best team in England, and to be honest they're not. Liverpool have only lost 2 games, it was only a few home draws that cost them. Argubly they have put in more impressive performances then Man Utd, who only won one game against the other top 4 teams in the League. If Chelsea had started the season with Hiddink, then maybe they would have been Champions.

yea ill have to agree with you guys there with a pinch of salt. The legendary team still IMO is the 99 team, not just because of the treble but in their attitudes.
Both went a goal down early yet the former had the drive and fight to keep plugging away (mind you the opposition in the latter didnt allow any space/time for the mids) even untill the death, had the perception that with that team any fightback is possible with this crop you can never see them coming back once Liverpool or Barca hit the lead.
