Here is where you can talk about the UK Hip Hop scene, also known as Grime for you that do not know.

Firstly,

I want everyones opinion on JME & Skepta.

Who is better?

My opinion, Skepta. That's why he's in my top friends on Myspace

He has better lyrical content. JME is just.. Serious, serious... all the time! lol

They're from Tottenham too like me

Black The Ripper is alright too, used to go to my school he's the only one to make it from my school. When I say make it I mean be well known in my area and elsewhere.

Chipmunk is good too.

But Pound Sterling had a freestyle on Westwood 1Xtra that was sikkk!

Tinchy Stryder
Tinie Tempah
Roll Deep Crew
Wiley
Dizzee Rascal
N-Dubz too (If you want to class them as Grime artists)

They are just a few well known names to make it.

I can't think of anyone else right now, so you guys can think for me.

N Dubz are awful, like most of the other stuff.

Anybody heard the Ruff Sqwad tune "Walking Home", it has a sample of a girls aloud song in it but is a great tune

Is it actually Girls Aloud! Wow.

Ye, N-Dubz are poo but I had to put them in that list cos they have actually made it kind of.

Yeah look.

I love it when grime/uk hip hop clashes with other genres, for example Dizzee Rascals song with Alex Turner and that Lethal Bizzle song with the Gallows

I have never heard or seen that song by Girls Aloud in my life!

And you do know that Tinchy Stryder the guy at the beginning is the Ruff Sqwad poster boy.

Grime = awful.

Chipmunk isn't bad actually, the two singles he released were quite good imo.

Sway better release his album man, been waiting forever.

Only Grime artist that is worth mentioning in my opinion, hasn't been mentioned; Ghetto.

4w0_5VYHR4w

And apart from Sway (and maybe Kano), none of these can even be classed as UK Hip Hop. Grime is generally shite and repetetive though.

EDIT:Miggy, that was Ryan Babel?!

That was nice!

Just found the translation:
Rapping is my hobby
Rappers don’t want trouble
I'm the Liverpool star those bitches are loving
I know what time it is - I've just bought a new watch
I’ll give you a punchline: eight seconds, you’ll be knocked down
Towel in the ring
My family in the V.I.P
No caviar for us, Surinamers eat chicken
Ya'll know nothing: this is the Premier League
Representing the G
You can see this n***a with number 19
Ya'll can f*** off, I f*** with a whole team
Ya'll can talk, but you don’t get anything with it
Ya'll can't be like me, my status is too high
If rappers come to close, I have to take space
People watch YouTube to learn my actions
I have those skills, try some tricks
I was a poor n***a
Now I make f***ing money
I went from the Euro to the English pound
I put money in my pocket, now I spend money on nothing
I like it this way, I'm sure you like it
If somebody want beef, well come on
I like it with some pepper, homie
I'm sure in my life
Give me the f***ing ball, you lose both legs
And now my competition is past
If you hate me because of that, I say you’re right
If I was you, I would hate me too
I have the s**t homie
I can’t even spend all my money
Keep your daughter in sight. or you will be my family
I’ll take your daughter and let her make clean
101 Barz - this is the first time but I came hard!
I came alone, I don't have a back-up
I came because I mean it
Check it

When I have some more time, I'm going to post a proper amount of stuff, as I'm UK hip-hop all the way recently. For now, a Devlin song (I'm surprised all the "grime" heads haven't mentioned him yet):

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h9b-H0Cm5tk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h9b-H0Cm5tk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Edit: As I see everybody's name-dropping, I used to play 40-40 home with Sway.

Interested to see what rappers you rate from the UK, I mean, I suspect you've got a bit of knowledge on the subject aswell.

It's a shame people class these two genres together though because 99% of the time they are vastly different IMO. I can't stand it when people refer to UK Hip Hop as the likes of Dizzee Rascal, JME, Lady Sov and the like either. :fplm: Devlin is another one of the few I rate in the Grime scene actually, although I can't say I listen to him much at all.

Just dug out an old So Solid Crew album there - They Don't Know. Not really grime but amazing garage if that's what you're into.

Nifty1Pound50
08-10-2008, 00:08
If you're into stuff like So Solid Crew were, you may be interested to take a listen to an album called "Now or Never" by Goodfellaz. It's hosted by Hale Mega (formerly Megaman, in So Solid). It's a credible effort; it's a little more lyrically polished and hip-hop than the So Solid efforts of almost a decade ago. I'll be honest, I don't know a great deal about who the artists that make up Goodfellaz are - but one of the emcees seems pretty talented. There are a few appearances from Megaman on the album. Stand-out track (for me) is U.K. (feat. Young Juvee) (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5i0Q8D0_2wM) (YouTube link!). It's pretty cliché in it's concept, but a good listen nonetheless. The first emcee on that track is the one I quite like.

All in all, it's quite a refreshing listen as an album and has made its way onto my MP3 player, which says a lot. Full album (http://rapidshare.com/files/145578572/Goodfellaz-Now_Or_Never__Hosted_By_H.M_-_Bootleg_-2008-RAGEMP3.rar).

I agree about the nice sample, as for who is the biggest at the moment it's hard to say, Ruff Sqwad don't get as much coverage as twats like N Dubz as all the chavs are into N Dubz

Yeah he is...he's her way more talented brother lol

You should listen to

'Comedy tradegy history' - for the amazing shakespeare related lyrics
'Freedom lasso' - for the absolutely EVIL base line
'Defeated' - for your more rock based rap lol
And
'Electro livin' - just becase i said so.

theyre all off the 'freedom lasso' album

If you liked bit by bit, you'll love the rest of the album!!

My opinion, Skepta. That's why he's in my top friends on Myspace

Any guy who has a personal MySpace page (meaning personal as in he himself posts on it, upload stuff, etc. NOT THE RECORD LABEL LIKE OTHER ARTISTS) doesnt even deserve a mention in a hip-hop thread.

Things like this is what is ruining hip-hop.

Hahahaha, what are you talking about? You're an absolute fool. I'm sure a large majority of independent artists personally use their MySpace. I knew you were a a bit of a hip-hop snob with some of your posts, but I assumed you knew your stuff.

Ignorant, arrogant, close-minded fanboys are also what's ruining hip-hop.

And for the record, I don't rate/listen to the majority of artists mentioned here - but there is a LOT of homegrown talent.
