Shocking that Ferdinand misses out again.

I honestly think Fernando Torres deserves this more than Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was amazing, however Torres' achievement was more phenomenal, considering the context. Capping it off with the winner in Euro 2008.
Ronaldo will win the lot, however.

Lionel Messi deserves it without a doubt, my top 3 predictions are:
1st: Lionel Messi
2nd: Ronaldo
3rd: Torres
Adebayor
I want Torres to win, however Ronaldo is the easy choice and will win it.

Ronaldo
Messi
Torres
Right now at this moment in time I'd say Messi is the best player in the world. Why don't they do this before or after the major tournaments before the season starts?
Ronaldo will win it.

True but what about David Villa, he is already on 10 goals in one of the best leagues in the world and he had an excellent Euro 2008

There is only one winner and that is indeed Cristiano Ronaldo and NO ONE else deserves it.
42 goals last season also the golden boot, Premier league winner and Champions league winner.
How on earth can Torres win it, yeah he had a excellent season and did win the Euro's and scored the winner but what did he achieve with Liverpool.
As for Lionel Messi, in terms of ability I would agree that he is the best player in the world, but this award does not come down to ability but what the eventual winner achieved over the last year. In that case Lionel Messi doesn't deserve it either.
As for the Adebayor and David Villa, these are just unrealistic comments, same as Torres, Adebayor had a excellent season last term but Ronaldo finished above him in terms of Goals scored and winning the two biggest club trophies there are so how on earth can you say Adebayor really ?
David Villa was amazing in the Euro's but look at Valencia's season last year they were poor at best and came forth in the goal scoring chart in La Liga. So again he cannot win it.
So if anyone else wins this award, then it is a fix and it's as simple as that.

Villa certainly is one of the best, but Messi is on 10 goals, 7 assists in 12 appearances for the season so far. Messi is hands down the best player in the world today. Ronaldo will win it though.
the funny thing is that Messi just needs 1 more assist this season to match the total of Ronaldo's so called brilliant season last year.
C Ronaldo = :jack:
Agree with the general concensus. Irrespective of how well anyone else has done Prissy Chrissy the Real want-away will win it.

For scoring 33 goals in his first season of English football!
Ronaldo will win it though.

lol Yeah but Ronaldo scored 31 in 34 games in the league. Torres scored 24 in 33 games so again how does this warrant him (IYO) above Ronaldo ?

Yeah but what did Messi win last year... nothing.
David Villa for club did nothing exceptional and what he did for Spain in the euro's was amazing but does that honestly (remove your hated towards Man Utd and Ronaldo for a second) give him the right to be named the best player in the world ... I don't think so.

So basically what you are saying is that Ronaldo won everything by himself? The Man Utd team of last year were way better than the Barcelona team. Messi is waaaaaaay better than Ronaldo, and he is two years younger. Ronaldo will win it this year, but Messi will go on to win many more.

Xavi
yeah xavi should be in contention as well, but he won't. And the reason for that is the same as the reason why Ronaldo will win it. Fifa only hands out these awards to goalscorers, flashy players with Cannavaro being the exception, only because Zidane through it away in the WC Final.

I'm not worried about the award, but Xavi is the shit.
jip, xavi is that typical player that does all the hard work but only gets half the recognition he deserves. Just like Makelele back in his Real Madrid days. If you take away xavi Barcelona will really struggle. The defensive and central midfield roles are extremely important in any given team. All the good teams have a class player in this role, take away the player and sooner rather than later the team will crumble. The two best players in this role is xavi(CM) and cambiasso(DMF)(probably one of the most underrated players in the world)

Are you fucking stupid m8?
When did I say that Ronaldo won everything on his own... I didn't.
What I am saying is that there is no logical way that any other player in world football can pip Ronaldo to this award, if Messi, Villa, KAKA or who ever win the FIFA WPOTY then its a joke.
What Ronaldo did last year for a so called right winger is fucking unbelievable, he scored 31 goals in the best and hardest league in the world.
R9NALD9: Give me your reason why Messi deserve's this award more than Ronaldo.
but Messi will go on to win many more.
Nothing in life is certain. Look at Ronaldinho, as a prime example.
Also younger players are coming through all the time, so in 2-3years there may be someone who is even better than Messi ?

Well for starters he won the gold medal at the olympic games, he is a constant outstanding performer for his club and country, and he always performs at his best in the big games unlike Ronaldo. He is a sensational player to watch and I have never seen a defender keep Messi quiet in a game, nobody knows how to defend the guy.
As I have said on two occasions already, ronaldo will win it this year, but Messi is a better player.
How many was actually in the league though?

It was Torres' first season in a new league as you described as "best and hardest league in the world.". Ronaldo has been here for a few years. Also how many on Ronaldo's goals were penalties??
As I said earlier Ronaldo will win it!!

we all know who is going to win the award, and rightly so.
C.Ron is the man for the job. He didn't win the league on his own, but he certainly got the vital goals when no other attacking player was in form.
If Ronaldo was injured last year, there's no chance Utd would of got the double. So called winger getting 42 goals and 8 (?) assists is simply sensational. Scored more than Rooney and Tevez put together ?
There shouldn't even be a discussion, Ronaldo for the award with ease
Messi can win it next year, but i can sense another injury to come his way and halt his progress
IMO
Senna deserves a mention ! he's sorting it out

Like I have said on a number of occasions there's no question that Messi is a better overall player than Ronaldo, But last season he wasn't!
Also in regards to your comment about a defence keeping Messi quite, what did he do against Man Utd last year... nothing!
Yeah he got a Olympic Gold medal but did u see the other teams squads, if Argentina didn't win that, then they all needed shooting.
And if you asked Messi what would he rather have a Gold Medal or a Champions League Medal.

He never respected me in the first place, I think that's why he misread that. :crymore:
Leo Messi should not win any awards for Last season, he was good, but he really doesn't deserves it. For one thing, Cristiano Ronaldo was more Decisive and Consistent for his Team.
But regardless, the FIFA World Player of the Year award has long been a blatant Joke.. the most Overrated Award there is.
Kaka won the award based on One Performance against an Incomplete Man Utd side.
Did FIFA somehow missed How Juan Roman Riquelme single-handedly won Boca Juniors their 6th Copa Libertadores??
Zidane won 3 of them, Ronaldo won another 3, Ronaldinho won another 2, etc, etc.. How can anyone justify so many awards going for the same players??
Even more so when there's Deco winning a Champions League with the likes of FC Porto, and when there's Juan Roman Riquelme toying around with the best of South America and Europe, etc, etc..
The FIFA WPOTY award is a joke, Cristiano Ronaldo plays in the EPL and he will be Deservedly winning the award this year. But Leo Messi plays in the Spanish La Liga, he is hugely popular, I'm guessing Leo Messi will join the "WPOTY Club" soon.
Other players that deserve a mention include; Xavi, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas, Marcos Senna, Alex Del Piero, Guti, and many others.
Wouldn't it be better if we had awards such as "Midfielder of the Year", "Defender of the Year", and "Forward of the Year"??
I don't agree with that entire post, but I agree that the World Player of The Year is a bit of a joke most of the time. But since it is decided by FIFA, possibly the worst professional sports governing organization in the world, I can't say I'm surprised. The 'real' fans know who deserve these awards.

I think that FIFA should stop looking only for players in the biggest clubs of Europe. Just see the Riquelme example above.
