View Full Version : Chipping the Keeper

In this year's version, chipping the keeper is nearly impossible.
In 2008, I would chip with impunity, typically the hidden chip -- the keeper would come up, I would chip him, that simple.
This year, the keeper never comes out, AND the chip gets zero height on it. Maybe I have to let go of turbo before chipping.
I've played several games against the computer, and I have seen only a couple situations where a chip was the best play.
Comments?
never use the R1 square partly for the reasons you stated but mostly because I prefer to use either [O] button with R2 or Manual pass plus R2 the draw back to this is that you can be called offside if a player is in an offside position but not interfering with play and also that no replay is given for near misses. but the level of satisfaction for scoring such a chip is its own reward.

Forgot to mention that I use XBOX360, so I'm not sure what you meant.
For a typical chip, in this version and past, I used L1 and X (Square/Shoot in PS2/3). I have never been able to figure out manual pass.
But you were saying to use Long Pass (circle for PS2, B for me) and R2? What does holding R2 do when pressing Circle?

Wonder if David Seaman could give any tips
his only downfall as a goalie was being chipped
as for Pro tho, it is harder to chip the keeper, which is excellent as far as i'm concerned. The more you practise, the easier it'll get
I finally dived other day and got a penalty !! i was rather chuffed with myself, first ever time i didnt get booked. wooooot

i have only chipped the goalkeeper once (when playing against a friend) but his keeper was out of his area so couldnt handle it, was extremley satisfying! haha
Yup. its really impossible, after two months i played master league mode. Only several times i'm success chipped by pass the keeper...

i manage to chip it thru most of the time dribbling or through ball which result in luring the keeper out.
then u can chip
but whether goes in or not is another thing

its not that hard my personal favorite is to do the side shimmy followed by the the chip
try it you can get some spectacular chips in!
Its not impossible at all....you lot must be doing it wrong....
PS3 - L1 + Square (obviously power depends on where you are in relation to the goal)
360 - I have no idea, as i do not own this shit console~
but id imagine for the 360 it'd be
LB + X
I had more, much more trouble chipping the ball in pes 2008. I know the keepers would go out more than this year's but the chips were bad.
This year, I go 1vs with keeper, and he sometiems tries to take the ball from me, that's the opportunity to decrease speed, and press L1/LB and square/X.

If you press R2 and O (lofted pass) it takes a higher arc thus making it easier to chip the keeper.

as long as you stop sprinting before you begin hitting square and l1 you can boost it up...

u fanboy loooooooooooooooooooser
I was joking, you absolute plank
Make sure ur outside of the box with a medium chip shot, or make sure ur turned away 45 degrees from the goal.
Good luck!
And XBOX360 ain't a shitty console... Remember why PES2008 had that shitty lag in the replay? It was cuz of Sony with the PS3 :)
Oh for fucks sake, now who are the fan boys eh??????
learn to take a joke man, jesus!
But that 45 degree thing is interesting, care to explain more??

yah the 45 degree thing is true, especially if theyre facing more away the goal, like facing 8 oclock when the goal is at 12 o clock (for a lefty) if the ball bounces towards a player facing that way you can turn a bit to 9oclock and really get some hangtime when you shoot (3/4 power) has to be a player with damn good shot accuracy and technique...i know hes hated for being overrated, or past his prime, i scored a chip like that with raul that was classic retro raul chip
the only time i got a successful chip was against a friend... and it was awesome... but never against the AI.
You should try more ath007, i think that chips look superb from whatever angle they go in from!!
I think chip looks spectacular - but they never go in - and since the only opportunity you get to chip is when you're one on one, if you ever go for the chip, it's 9/10 times gonna be a waste of a very good goal-scoring opportunity.
i like to stop the ball dead before executing a chip with l1 and square, using quite a bit of power!
I have scored a rather lovely 30yard chip with my 18 year old Windass - the keeper came out to meet a long ball and his clearance was deflected to Windass - and the chip was perfectly weighted.
