It's been freezing frequently since the day I got the laptop, now I've reached a point where I will headbutt the screen if it happens again, therefore any tips and solutions would be appreciated.

You've not really given me any information in order to help you. Fair enough its freezing but at what stage, what spec is the laptop etc.
Vista, in my eyes, is only properly usable by people who are quite computer-literate due to some of the strange things it does which require tweaking. I tend not to use it because frame rates are usually slightly inferior in gaming compared to XP.
Im not sure if this is a vista problem...but sometimes the internet freezes at random points.....
Does your whole computer freeze uA??

It has;
AMD Turion Dual Core 2.00 ghz
3 gb ram
ATI Radeon hd 3200 graphics card.
I can't tell you much about the freezing really, it happens suddenly, the screen freezes, the audio keeps looping (if that makes any sense) and after that the only option is to restart it by hand. Like I said, it happens for no apparent reason, doesn't matter if only firefox is running or a buttload of programs are running at once.
I will switch back to XP once I get back to Istanbul, but in the meantime I need the laptop.

Well, it's not comforting to know that the guy got shafted in the end, but some useful stuff on there.
Bad thing is that my laptop is HP as well and I'll be pissed even more if it's HP exclusive.
dale- it freezes completely and I can't do nothing else but to restart it using the power button
I honestly cant think of anything....but one of my mates did have a similar problem...
He took his to PC world, and had it checked over by their repair team...
They said his actual mother board was corrupted, i dno how much of a load of shit that was, but yeah he got shafted in the end aswell
Point is, maybe you should take it to a proffesional??
Me > PC World - although it doesn't take much

you should make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially the sound card driver.. Oh and also make sure your BIOS is the latest version. You should be able to get all information/drivers from the manufacturers website.
Also, did your laptop come with vista or did you upgrade? Is it Vista home basic, premium or ultimate? I can help if it was an upgrade as I had similar problems with my laptop...
Should use a good OS like Leopard.

Easy. Buy a computer without an OS loaded (then you install XP SP3 yourself) or build one with the help of someone.
Personally: I've barely had any problems with Vista. The little I had could have been sorted with a bit of help. :erm:

Honestly dl Ubuntu and make it your primary OS you will end up with an OS that is practical aesthetically pleasing and runs nearly all windows programs hell you can even boot XP within Ubuntu

check this out http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=530621 tbh not many ppl spend time making viruses for linux/unix you wont come across any really and in the mean time with the fact that you can boot windows from within ubuntu it really makes having XP/Vista as your primary OS obsolete...
Ubuntu doesn't allow certain hardware so be aware of that early on.
I've always wondered about it but never gone through with installation. Presuming I can install on an existing Windows partition without any ill-effects, I'll go through the process simply for experience purposes.
I do, however, remember reading up on Ubuntu when considering installing it six months ago and being so very put off by something that I totally decided against it. If I ever find what that was, I'll be sure to hit you all over the head with it.
EDIT: Ubuntu using a general kernel is slower at multimedia tasks than XP and going to a custom kernel requires technical knowledge whilst simply moving away from the general kernel can cause instability issues.
3D rendering in Ubuntu is generally significantly slower, reducing the performance of games.
Remember, running XP (or Vista) within Ubuntu using software such as VMWare will take more memory than running Windows alone.

Thanks guys for the info, i think i'll try it in two more months, i kind of always reinstall my PC every two months and i just did it 1 week ago, so, if i don't like i can go back to xp.
Any pros on ubuntu???????
What would be the gain in installing it???
Thanks, and sorry for all this questions, maybe i'll start a thread if there's not one already.

I would say the biggest pro for Ubuntu since it is Linux is that you do not have to worry about spyware/viruses a simple firewall and your good. Yes Ubuntu will not run as fast on your comp but it all depends on the specs of your system you can always demo the OS to see if its for you ;)

Wait for Windows 7. In the meantime, use Windows XP SP3 and blame your hardware. :)

The service pack 3 is so stupid, i have office 2003 and i couldn't open files for office 2007, i had to uninstall service pack 3 so i could install the Compatibility Pack and open office 2007 files.
The Compatibility Pack is only supported Windows XP Service Pack 1 and 2.
Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2, hasn't given me any problems so far.
Except when i try instaling Kaspersky, it says i can't because AVG is installed, when it isn't anymore..

I haven't had this in a while now, it might have been the service pack. I think it's fixed now.
SP2 is that out now?
Its at the public beta stage which always results in the beta being leaked.
