I haven't gone into the Arcade just yet, but is anyone else having problems with the site in general? It seems to be running slow, in parts, for me today.
It's obviously to do with the Arcade opening, but hopefully it's just because Sweey is sorting stuff out, and it doesn't remain at this pace constantly.
Sometimes pages load fine/really fast as normal, and then others there's a period of like two minutes where pages won't load and posts being made won't post until it loads onto the board, which takes a minute or so.
Looks good & prety well laid out. Perhaps a tad too much info to take in at once though!
Tried the lane bowling. I'm much better on PS Home :faceplm: At least I can claim one gold. Will probably never happen again.
I'm pretty sure i'm the only one to have played asteroids......Why havent I got a high score?
I can't do anything about the server issues I'm afraid. That said, I've suffered slowdowns over the weekend when the arcade was closed to all members so hopefully it is something else.
Dale, can you send me a PM reminding me to refund you credits on Asteroids later today? Something appears to have gone wrong there though the game tested fine for all of us. I'll be interested to see how that one works out.

i dont mind the score issue tho, i now have a new way to pass the long hours at work. i just need to build up some credits now, i just got told i can't afford to play asteroids. boo hoo
You'll get a 20 credit refund due to Asteroids not saving scores. It'll be back up later so you might wish to wait before playing again. Be warned though: if I've played Asteroids before you, you won't be winning jack :ninja:

Asteroids has been disabled as it has stopped saving scores. Expect it back this evening. Dalechapman and Stottmeister will receive reimbursements for credits later.

There's no limit I'm aware of - it'll likely be far higher than you'd suggest. There's a thread for game requests although try to wait a couple of days just so you can have a good think.

That's a very good suggestion actually, because it's a bit annoying when there is 1 person taking up the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the leaderboards. Plus it will prevent about 20 pages of worthless information, I think I must have around 50 scores now for Snake, and apart from my high score, I don't care for the others.
Switched.
However, it'll only work moving forward. Scores will eventually be reset or it will update when a user with duplicate entries gets a new score.

Yup, there seemed to be some sort of mistake in some of the leaderboards so Sweey decided to reset them since a new High Score system was implemented.

Just a quick notice: the forum software is going to be updated in the not-too-distant future. This could result in the arcade being unavailable for a little while after the upgrade due to potential conflicts. In the worst case, we'd have to wait for a new version of the arcade to be released but considering the latest version of vBulletin came out last week and we've not yet upgraded to it, chances are any such problems will already have been resolved by other forums.

Haha! How the hell did Top Gun get that score? I was playing mahjong for ages yesterday and didn't get anywhere near as far as you got; probably just under 20 pieces was my best.
Man, i've been trying to beat his score for ages, and I always end up getting stuck.
This is the first time i've had 2 tiles left though, and one had to be on top of the other didn't it :faceplm: I cant believe it :lol:

It's not my fault I'm so sensitive.
I think I know what the problem was. I think I must have disconnected from the net for a bit, but I thought once the game was loaded, the internet connection shouldn't effect it.
It shouldn't be the connection dragonfly....Maybe someone messed with it and tried to carry on your game?

But if the internet is dead, any transmission of data which may take place during gameplay will be considered lost or the dormant but still connected port to the server will have been cut off.

That's what I used think - well, not so in such a technical way - but I've played games where I could continue playing, despite losing internet connection for a short while. Maybe they're not created in the same way.

I'm going to update the list of games available and create a thread of games which are currently hidden...just so you all know what is in the pipeline. Of course, I've still got over 5,000 to test so the latter will be constantly updated, particularly over weekends.

Yep. Can't work out how I used to hit 100,000+ on Asteroids over at the DTL website and got around 150,000 on SoccerPulse but can't crack 50,000 these days :no:
freestyleh7, I take exception to my score on PacMan being called "just hacks". If you can't get anywhere near it, that's your problem and you need to learn how to play it better. There are plenty of people able to get up to 400,000 on that game if not more.

Just got 208,500 on Space Invaders - probably could've gotten more but I need to rush to bed so changed my style of play to something a bit more risky. Unfortunately, its kept the comment I put on my last score in the game because I didn't enter one. Doh.
I suck at most games, but seem to do well in Add It Up.

I was the very same, I could of went on forever, you though went that extra yard so fair play to you. At this point now though I'm considering the game bugged as you can't really die if you know the trick.
I do like the version of Galaxian you loaded up, the sound is dodgy but it plays great, lot better than the version of space invaders we have which also looks and sounds great minus the bug.
You can keep Bloody Pingu. I'm quite comfortable here at the top anyhow. :smug:

Yes the game was majorly flawed. Once you got to that certain level there was nowhere else to go, you could have just played all day if you wanted.

Best game in the arcade is El Emigrante. Worst is Super Mario Bros, full of bugs. I beat the high score on it at one point and died by falling down a hole, yet the time kept going til 0, then nothing happened. Waited 2 minutes and still nothing so I lost the score.

They are just luck games, no skill involved IMO....but obviously someone has to be the champ at them also.

Just the resetting of scores, and I'll be adding more games. The only hiccup is that I'm going out shortly and when I get back I'll probably be busy with a combination of work and Italian football.

The particular incarnation of Tetris in the arcade has a bug. Sometimes, pause doesn't work and the game continues under the pause screen. Be alert for the sounds of blocks landing after you pause. You'll need to unpause and repause. Usually takes then.
Regardless, it's probably the best Tetris I've played online. It has a fluidity and snap that most others don't.
Also, I've just beaten the high score with a quick run after taking a couple years off to play PES. Before that, I'd broken a million in other forums' arcades. My life could potentially be over now that this game is available to me again. :(

I'm stuck at the same point in Moon Patrol which is the only thing preventing me from taking your score. No matter what I seem to do, I fail to get past a particular series of obstacles that all hit at the same time.
You probably know which bit I mean as your scores were quite similar to mine.

Jonno found an exploit and posted a highscore with it. I proved the exploit works with my score and then left the game on to show I wasn't removing the game just because I'm unable to beat the score, changing the charge to stop people playing. There was a post about it in one of the Arcade threads last week.

Over 250. You start getting bored and taking your eye off the ball when you've been through that many. I THINK I've been through over 300 before, can't quite remember.

There's a part of me that feels I could, if needed, play that game for the rest of my life without it ending. The other part of me thinks that the game mechanics change after a certain point to reduce your time faster.

I, like you, am only work up down left right but you've just given me a fantastic idea. I'll try it tonight if I get a chance and report back although it might turn the game into a free one of sorts as it could save some time. Moving from bottom left to top right is a bastard.

I just spent 20 minutes playing Speedy Thief, got to room 308 and beat the high score - but I'd been uploading tracks to RapidShare so it wouldn't submit my score :faceplm:
The arcade is re-open after about half an hour and until the end of April, ALL games are free and there will be no jackpots unless individuals wish to set up tournaments of at least four players in which case I'll put some credits on offer for the winner and runner-up.
A good opportunity to practice!

I got 2 secret doors in total and had 7 lives at one stage so I'm not sure what point it was, now that you mention it I wasn't even aware that I got the secret doors due to not losing a life.

Oh yeah definitely, love the game. What level does the second secret door happen? I'd heard of it but never gotten beyond round 29 or so on my first life, usually due to the most silly fuck-ups. There's a few bastard levels in the mix from 60 upwards, particularly one around 98 where you can lose all of your lives trying to achieve the perfect jump to get one of the creatures.

I'm not sure what round the 2nd secret door was on now to be honest but if I seen it again I'd remember.
As for the harder levels, yeah there's these flying fuckers who turn red almost immediately after board 50, I never noticed there was so many creatures in general either because I'd never done this well on the real arcade version, beat it before with Minof on the C64 when we were kids but even at that I think they gave you like 10 credits between you starting off.

I started playing it when it came out (I was four/five) and have always loved it. Only completed the PC version though (two or three times) as I only played the C64 version until I was about 9 or 10 and neither of my sisters was as good as me so we couldn't get beyond the 70s back then.
You ever played Rainbow Islands? The spiritual successor to Bubble Bobble but not as good.

I will yeah, you won't believe this but I might of blown my chance at getting a few old machines for free, had it all lined up just to go to Galway and collect them and then I had to hit England the same week.
Might phone the chap tomorrow though and see if it's still on. After you get the machine it's pretty easy replace all the buttons and controls after gutting the inside, then all you need do is hook them upto a PC and bobs your uncle.
P.S. Can't believe you missed snow bros fellah.

It had nothing to do with that, he turned it off around the time of the world cup with full intentions of re opening it once the betting was all over. Obviously with him gone now nobody noticed it wasn't available since he was always the one taking care of it from an Admin point of view.
