Laptop to Moniter Image Problem

I have my laptop connected to a moniter and once in a while the picture on the moniter is larger and I can't even see the "start" tab on the bottom left. When I lift the laptop up the picture is fine but the picture on the moniter is still larger.

Is it the monitor? Laptop? Cable to the moniter?

How can it be fixed?

Is the monitor capable of displaying the resolution that the laptop is?

Not sure what you mean by when you lift the laptop up but all that change is the way the cable connecting the two devices is physically lying. Switching the cable would be a good place to start after testing the resolution issue by lowering the resolution on the laptop unless you know for a fact the monitor can handle that resolution.

I would think that the moniter can handle the resolution because its been fine for a month now and about a day ago everything enlarge on my moniter.

When I say lift up the laptop I mean opening it to view the screen(able to type). The moniter goes black when the laptop is open and when the laptop is closed(not able to type but still running) The moniter shows what would be on the laptop screen.

I should start with the plug connection like and play around with the resolution to see what happens. Then take it from there.
