View Full Version : The best 'rock' verse you have ever heard
As there is a 'Rap verse' thread, I thought I'd counter it with a 'rock verse' one
I'm using the word 'rock' here in a very loose sense aswell, so bear that in mind lol
Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone
Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breath
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
Go. :orly:
Not sure this thread works quite the same as a rap lyrics thread, but hey...
All year long we get a rough deal,
Chewing at grass, enslaved in fields,
Mowers in jumpers we're destined to be
Slaughtered and turned into Big Mac of Wimpey.
Baaaa
Larry Lamb is God,
Bugger off,
Ariba, ariba,
Ie ou,
Bollocks!
Out of the sheepdip we must now rise,
Destroy the state we so despise,
With barbed glove in hand we'll destroy the bastards,
As sheep lobby breaks free of pasture.
Here he comes, he won't stop bleeding,
Malicious rebellion, farmer retreating,
Crocogator, sheep war cry,
One moon gun, the farmer must die.
All year long we get a rough deal,
Chewing at grass, enslaved in fields,
Mowers in jumpers we're destined to be
Slaughtered and turned into Big Mac of Wimpy.
Lawnmower Deth - Sheepdip
Edit: Just heard this on the radio which reminded me of it's awesome lyrical prowess:
Gliddy glub gloopy
Nibby nabby noopy
La la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba
Nooby abba nabba
Le le lo lo
Tooby ooby walla
Nooby abba naba

I don't know why, but Blink 182's "Not Now" holds a very special place with me. The words just seem to ressonate with me
Come here, please hold my hand, Lord, now
Help me, I'm scared please show me how
To fight this, God has a master plan
And I guess, I am in his demand
Please save me, this time I cannot run
And I'll see, you when this is done
And now I, have come to realize
That you are, the one who's left behind

I think it will work just like the Rap one anyway....
Feel Good Inc. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FNfRlRboGc) - The Gorillaz
Hahahahahahahahaha,
Feel good....
Sh-pah sh-pa, sh-pa, Feel good, [x9]
City's breaking down on a camel's back.
They just laugh n go 'cause they don't know wack
So all you fill the streets it's appealing to see
You wont get out the county, 'cos you're damn as free
You've got a new horizon It's ephemeral style.
A melancholy town where we never smile.
And all I wanna hear is the message beep.
My dreams, ain't got a kiss in, 'cause I don't get sleep, no..

For me the musical aspect of 'rock' is always first. I don't really care about the lyrics, just the vocals fitting the mood of the song and the tone of the instruments is enough for me. However rarely you get very good vocalists who at the same time are good lyricists. Maynard from Tool springs to mind obviously. The song is called H. and it's from their third album. Whenever I hear this verse I feel like singing along to it, it's not about the content, but how it fits the song and the song's procession. So here it is:
The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have been
My blood before me begs me
Open up my heart again
And I feel this coming over like a storm again
And I feel this coming over like a storm again

Here's the lyrics to a song I'm listening to right now.
The Mayfield Four - Summergirl
Flowers placed
At the foot of the grave
Of the one we lost forever
Jesus please
Let her soul rest in peace
And make way, a new angel's in heaven
Summergirl went away
Everything has been dying
Summergirl went away
And the sun doesn't shine
All alone
In a house we call home
And the walls still echo of her laughter
We'd dream of a world
Far away we'll never know
Since she left I don't dream anymore
Yeah you make a good point uA, but you cant escape Bradon Flowers...In my opinion this man is a genius, one of the best songwriters on the planet and The Killers are one of my favourite bands
This is the first verse from 'Spaceman' from the new one 'Day & Age'
It started with a low light
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
It left a strange impression in my head
You know that I was hoping
That I could leave this starcrossed world behind
But when they cut me open
I guess I changed my mind
And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time
Cause they calling me by my name
And the zipping white light beams
Disregarding the bombs and satellites
Some of the Imagery Flowers creates is supreme man

Are we human or are we dancer?
Wait, what?

Brandon Flowers is a genius.
Are we human or are we dancer?
Wait, what?
Oh lord. I thought the line was "Are we human, or are we denser", but it actually is "dancer". :faceplm:
Smashing Pumpkins - Zero
My reflection, dirty mirror
There's no connection to myself
I'm your lover, I'm your zero
I'm the face in your dreams of glass
So save your prayers
For when we're really gonna need'em
Throw out your cares and fly
Wanna go for a ride?
She's the one for me
She's all I really need
Cause she's the one for me
Emptiness is loneliness, and loneliness is cleanliness
And cleanliness is godliness, and god is empty just like me
Intoxicated with the madness, I'm in love with my sadness
Bullshit fakers, enchanted kingdoms
The fashion victims chew their charcoal teeth
I never let on, that I was on a sinking ship
I never let on that I was down
You blame yourself, for what you can't ignore
You blame yourself for wanting more
She's the one for me
She's all I really need
She's the one for me
She's my one and only
Oh lord. I thought the line was "Are we human, or are we denser", but it actually is "dancer". :faceplm:
lol, some of my friends actually argued about 'denser' or 'dancer' not long ago

to be honest, i dont really care, i only like 'Spaceman', i just told them to shut up and enjoy the music
I think I remember Brandon Flowers saying in an interview that it was dancer, not denser.
I put on sams town last night, and listened to it all the way through whilst smoking a cuban in a dark room Just without the smoking and the dark room bit
And then Bones came on, and I think this lyric is great man
But I don't really like you, apologetically dressed in the best, but on a heartbeat glide.
Without an answer, the thunder speaks for the sky, and on the cold, wet dirt I cry.
Good stuff man
Metallica - So What
Well, Ive fucked the queen, Ive fucked bach
Ive even sucked an old mans cock
So what, so what
And Ive fucked a sheep, Ive fucked a goat
I rammed my cock right down its throat
So what, so what
So what, so what, you boring little fuck

I agree with that. Often if you analyze the lyrics it's just pure bollocks, but it sounds so awesome that you don't really care.
"Are we Human, or are we Dancers".
I'm not particularly fond of that song, but Anyone knows what that line means??
All I can think of right now, if you are a human, I suppose you dance to your own tune. Or if your a dancer, your just a puppet.
Anyone knows what it actually means??

Oasis - Live Forever
Maybe I will never be,
all the things that I want to be,
now is not the time to cry,
now's the time to find out why,
maybe you're the same as me,
we see things they'll never see,
you and I are gonna live forever.
The one that in bold is my favourite line.
Blink 182 - Stockholm Syndrome, it isn't the best, but it's my favourite.
I'm so lost
I'm barely here
I wish I could explain myself
But words escape me
It's too late
To save me
You're too late
You're too late
You're cold with disappointment
While I'm drowning in the next room
The last contagious victim of this plague between us
I'm sick with apprehension
I'm crippled from exhaustion
And I dread the moment when you finally come to kill me
One that's always stuck in my head is of Bob Dylan "Lay Lady Lay" :
"Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you"
------------------------------------------------------------------
Bob Dylan "All Along the Watchtower" :
“There must be some kind of way out of here,”
Said the joker to the thief.
"There's too much confusion,
I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine,
Plowmen dig my earth.
None of them along the line
Know what any of it is worth.”
“No reason to get excited,”
The thief he kindly spoke.
“There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that,
And this is not our fate.
So let us not talk falsely now,
The hour is getting late.”
"All along the watchtower,
Princes kept the view,
While all the women came and went —
Barefoot servants too.
Outside in the cold distance,
A wildcat did growl.
Two riders were approaching, and
The wind began to howl."

It was inspired by Hunter S. Thompson who wrote something along the lines of America was raising a generation of dancers.
I think the line (Are we human, or are Dancers?) is pretty retarded.
Green Day - Letterbomb
Where have all the bastards gone?
The underbelly stacks up ten high
The dummy failed the crash test
Collecting unemployment checks
Like a flunkie along for the ride
Where have all the riots gone
As your city's motto gets pulverized?
What's in love is now in debt
On your birth certificate
So strike the fucking match to light this fuse!
The town bishop is an extortionist
And he don't even know that you exist
Standing still when it's do or die
You better run for your fucking life
It's not over 'till you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burning
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late
There's nothing left to analyze
Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself?
And where will we all go when it's too late?
And don't look back
You're not the Jesus of Suburbia
The St. Jimmy is a figment of
Your father's rage and your mother's love
Made me the Idiot American

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
I'm gonna fight 'em all
A 7 nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back
And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone
Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell
And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that aint what you want to hear
But thats what I'll do
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home
I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera for evermore
I'm gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding
Right before the lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will sing no more
And the stains coming from my blood
Tell me go back home
