http://winningelevenblog.com/files/2009/05/pes2010_messi_cap0501.jpg
And who else to star in the pic than the main man himself, Lionel Messi. The words PICTURE PERFECT come to mind!
The incredibly detailed pic is an actual in-game image, and shows graphical detail beyond anything Konami has reached in the past. It also comes with an accompanying press release:
Messi brought to vivid life in PES 2010
Konami showcases massively enhanced graphics engine as
PES revamp continues apace
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has released the first in-game image of its forthcoming PES 2010 title, demonstrating the stunning new level of detail and graphical refinement the new game enjoys.
The work in progress image shows cover star Lionel Messi in action in the new game, and showcase a massive advance in aesthetic detail. Crucial to the new game’s look are all-new dynamic lighting effects, where the position of the sun or the illumination from the floodlights is reflected in real time within the shadows cast both on the pitch, stadium, the ball and players.
The newly-expanded Tokyo-based PES Productions team has also worked hard to create the most vivid player recreations to date. Player expressions are now fully implemented, while the level of detail has been extended to individual skin textures and different weaves for the various kits to mimic the breathable material so many manufacturers now use.
Further details will be released in the coming weeks.
We’ll have further insight throughout the day. For now just sit back and admire the view ;)
We here at WENB also want to say thank you to Konami UK for giving the site the opportunity to be the first to launch the news. Their commitment to the community is paramount, and choosing us to launch the news is clear indication of that. With that, we want to thanks to all the fans for their continued support. Long may the exclusives continue!

Holy mother of moses! They might not be bullshittin this year after all...
That said, it's not that different from the previous image we saw, it's just now been said that it's an actual "in game" shot...
Here's a better image too.

Here's hoping they don't go for the "all show no go" angle.
I'd gladly play a scrappy looking version if they nail the gameplay & expand the ML & online...

Same here. Obviously wouldn't mind the massive graphical update though :D

Yeah, Ive been playing PES 6, and that proves your point.

Must say I still own PES 6 as well, athough on a HD tv through the PS3 it looks shockingly blocky... still plays a damn good game though.

way better than 09. I only play 6 now. 2010 better be good. Not sure if a 4th year of PES 6 will work :(
Looks promising. Here's to a new game...
If it is in game the fans look good too....more colour

Haven't you tried going back to PES5??
I got bored of PES6 and then tried PES5... I'm still playing PES5 every now and then. Just shows that Konami has really gone downhill since PES6.
Hopefully Pro Evo 2010 will be The 1st proper Next Gen PES. A 4th year of PES6/PES5 is a bit too much.
This truly is awesome. I have never expected this much of graphic detail. It looks one of the best games in terms of graphics. Finally, it's on par with the best games in graphics. I hope the gameplay is solid.

I wanted to go back to 5, but I gave my copy away to a friend. :(
Might buy it again though yet, maybe if 2010 isn't any good.

I'm impressed with the screenshot. Hopefully the gameplay will be a massive improvement.
yeah it would be amazing if all the faces looked like this and if they gave us the abilities to edit non licensed especially classic faces in the same way.

To be perfectly honest, I think PES08 and PES09 are utter rubbish... and so I really did not expect ANY Graphical improvements. I only expected a few new animations and a playable Online.
But yeah, the Graphics (judging by the only in-game pic we've seen) are fucking awesome, it looks just as good as the NBA 2K9 Graphics.
Now the thing that intrigues me is that, the Graphical improvements is like PS2 to PS3 graphics... it's a massive improvement.
But Konami knows that The Top Priority is How the Game Plays and Moves. Can we expect the same massive improvements in terms of animations and movements??
If so, Pro Evo 2010 is a whole new game... hopefully it plays more like an improved PES5.
Bottom Line is that the Messi Pic is impressive, I think it's actually better than the 1st one in the press release. But the thing that will make or break it before it happens is the Video.
^Yeah. I hope there are big differences in gameplay too. Hopefully for the better.

Ditto. The improved graphics is just an added bonus for me. However, I'm not complaining; Messi looks absolutely remarkable. Hopefully, the non-liscenced players look the same way.
Surely they cant make a third disaster in a row? Can they?

Arguably a 4th. Thats why i think this game will be a success. They surely, after 3 additions would of learnt from their mistakes and set things straight and they have said they have read the forums and taken in feedback not to mention "preporations have been in place for some time" so this game will at the very least imo will be up there with the good Pes's. Wether its gonna be up there with the best Pes's like Pes 5 or 6 we'll have to see. Maybe even surpassing them.
All first screens/videos are made to look awesome by the producers... I will begin to judge when they have released a playable demo.
Other than that, here's me hoping.....
^But at least, it LOOKS next gen. :)
for u guys that play pes 6 on ur ps3....is it widescreen or?
It's widescreen on mine so every player resembles Jan Molby. On a bad day. Still, the game plays Ok even if it looks shit, that after all is the imprortant bit...

It is possible to never improve. Scary Movie had many sequels. They were all shite.

no, it stretches the picture so they all look fat. Still plays like a dream though!
Original?

When do you ever get an in game shot that close up? It does look good however it's rather irrelevant what they look like at that distance. It's from a playing angle that matters, the detail is important but the animation is more so. Furthermore, it's extremely likely, only a handfull of the players will look that good with the big names also looking relatively accurate while the lesser players are as generic as ever. It's been that way for how long? I can't see it changing.
Furthermore it's the gameplay that's important, so let's hope they haven't spent all their time tweaking the graphics.

i quite agree ,that could be the front cover for all i care ,if i can take a player the full length of a pitch on a dribble and nearly score(37 year old eyes) in pes10 then quite clearly i wont be buying it

sorry for the off-topic :)
where you find pes6 on ps3?
I want Player Likenesses, not only Detailed Faces, but more importantly in the actual ability and playing style of each Individual. This is the thing that makes PES5 such a great game; spot on Player Likenesses.
It's almost like the game forces you into playing realistically. If you want to make a complicated pass, you would need someone like Zidane or Riquelme. If you want to battle for the ball and win possession back; you use someone like Gennaro Gattuso... etc, etc...
In PES09 this is completely lost, Roberto Carlos is as good a passer as Riquelme. Leo Messi is as good a Defensive Midfielder as Mascherano... etc, etc...
What's the point of playing a Football Game where there are no differences between Individuals and Teams??
This is Why I cannot stand PES09 and FIFA09... there's no differences between players, there's no sense of Team Chemistry, no sense of "Collective" Play. It's all the same Identical Copy underneath all the Faces and Uniforms.
If Pro Evo doesn't offers Realistic Player Likenesses (Realistic Limitations) I will not bother with the game. Graphics and Animations are always welcomed -but- if there are no Significant Differences between the players, I'm not buying it.
I think it's ridiculous to play a Football Simulation in which there are no differences between players. Without differences you don't have any sense of Team Chemistry, and without Collective Play you don't have Football.

Im just picturing Pes 2010 now in my head. I see Messi (looking great) running at the Inter Milan defence at the San Siro. He's turning in and out with fluidity and he looks life life due to a decent player model. I can see the nets has been changed to look NORMAL and i can see the stands as im running with the ball but thats all i can see atm. I just know its going to be a return to form. I forgot to mention i can read the future when i signed up.
I hope they have player likeness like Amateur mentioned.

^Why? If it's compatible, then it'll be compatible with both.

Looking good for pes, what about the gameplay though, thats what im interested in.
They need to start telling people what they are actually going to implement in the game.
The 'other game' its getting revealed in edge magazine soon and a early playable version has been played by the press, so pes is gonna know what its up against this year very soon.
Id like to know exactly what konami are doing so I can work out which one to buy.
Even tho I dont play pes at the mo, I configured the controller for PES controls, so switching back should be easier.
looks good hope it is really in game not just made for promo

Ha! Anyways, what I'd like to see is what they've done to the unliscenced players. Also (the most important factor), GAMEPLAY!!!
Arguably a 4th. Thats why i think this game will be a success. I would argue a fourth too. I'm never sure why people rave on about PES6, on the PS2 it was a sideways rather than a forward move and I thought it was poor on the 360. PES4/5 was the pinnacle (or were the pinacles).
Anyhoo, this screenie looks pretty sexy, but how many times have we seen similarly impressive shots in the past couple of years? ML needs a revamp, online needs fixing, licenses are becoming more important for us 360 users I would say (although they'll never be a dealbreaker for me), and the odd new or resurrected feature would be nice (how about the random squad from four teams thing again?)
