View Full Version : What will PES 10 offer me?

I'm not a fan boy of either Fifa or PES but I have to admit I have never tried a PES game before but an willing to try.

I hail from the football manager style community going back to the mid 1980's. Anyone remember the 'Boss' on the Commodore 64? hahahaha.

Well I eventually got bored of the genre and a few years ago tried Fifa 08 and was intially blown away, then came all the promises EA are very good at but not at delivering. 09 was a let down as far as Manager Mode is concerned, even stuff was removed. They promise the next version will be brill but they all say that.

My question is how do PES set the leagues up if it has no licences, what about the kits? Are the cup competitions accurate with just a different name? How much can you edit? Most importantly is there a Manager Mode and is it good?

If I can get some sort of info then I'm willing to give PES a go. What are Konami like as a company towards it's customers? Do they release patches? Will PES 10 be better than fifa 10. Forgive my ignorance.

If PES gets back to anything like it used to be come PES2010 then it's an easy choice and you're in for a real treat if you buy PES, however on the other hand it doesn't return to it's former glory I would opt for buying none of them.

My question is how do PES set the leagues up if it has no licences, what about the kits? Are the cup competitions accurate with just a different name?

1) you play the Official Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga and a few other liscensed leagues, however when you play in a fully liscened league you cannot swap, transfer or change players in your team- This is called league mode

2) Master League is different, it is made up of 4 unlicensed leagues, but you can fill this league with fully liscensed teams. This means you can transfer players, loan, sell, etc. You have the option of starting with the official squad of a team, for example with Man u you can start the master league with rooney, nani etc etc, or you can play with Man u, but use some default players the computer has created for you, these are not real players. You can also create you own teams

3) In terms of setup, this is how it works. In PES shop you can buy in game extras, one of them is the right to choose which teams go in which league, (because until this option is locked, the CPU randomises it for you, although the method the cpu uses to randomise has improved greatly so it does tend to put english teams in one league and spanish in another separate league.

Back to setup.

Assuming you unlock the rights to choose exactly which teams go in what league

Before you even start the Master League, go to edit mode.

There are 4 leagues you can edit the name of , name one England League, one la liga, one serie a and the other whatever you like, I name it Ligue 1,

Change the cup names to the proper names, Euro champions cup to UEFA champs league etc.

Now start your master league, put the english teams in the prem ,italians in the serie A etc.

Tip: I call the 4th league, ligue 1, but i put the top german, french and dutch teams in it, that means you get a good champions league when they qualify.

You can edit most stuff, cup names, player names, some staduim names etc. Yes the cup comps are pretty accurate, just changes the names in edit mode and you are away.

Ill let someone else cover that, basically if you need more info, fire one question at me ill answer that, then fire the next one.

Do they release patches?

Yea, you can also get patches from this forum, so stick around.

If your looking to play as a manager mode then for me, PES is far superior to Fifa. I've got both versions this year and much prefer Masters League. Manager Mode on Fifa does obviosly have the licenses and more teams but there's something far more engrossing about Masters League.

I'd advise you to start with the default players (just fake players that Konami make up) and build your team into a world force. It feels so satisfying when you finally get your team working together and win a major competition :)

Hope that helps.

PS - Konami have stated that they have improved ML this year too so it should be even better :)

Crowsy, ignore the fanboys, follow my list above, take a look at the fifa 10 thread in the 'other gaming' forum for full details on the game and check the pes2010 changes, then make your own mind up,

comming from a fifa fanboy...... fifa apparently has an improved manager mode this time so we will see how it turns out...but master league is now getting old as the same rules apply year in year out..so they need to drasticly improve it this year

its hard to say wether pes10 will be better than fifa10 at this point ,as neither has a demo to evaluate either

personally its what you prefer and want in a game ,fifa does not cut it for me (i wont give my reasons)but having said that both games are NOT anywhere near like real football ,both games are heavily biased towards attacking play

the only thing i can say that may tempt you to try pes is ,konami has finally began to invest in this game ,so who knows this years version maybe the one you fall in love with

please dont get me wrong i have felt betrayed by pes and i feel like this is the last chance saloon to give the fans what they want....for me the best was pes 5 but going back to that would be wrong.....however putting in the passion and the overall feeling of achievement would be awesome....that feeling of wanting to play the game instead of just doing it because im bored is wrong.

Just to correct one of Tech's points, PES2010 will have official Champions League and Europa League already, no editing required. Otherwise good list.

And Shankly, I think you've probably been booked because you and that raxamwy bloke seem to be following Tech_Skill around to flame him. But that's just a guess.

Ya, forgot about that, no need to edit european comps this year.

Thanks for the info guys. If I can get a cheap copy of PES 09 i'll give it a go to see how it feels to get some idea. I don't like demos so tend to stay away from them.

I'm encourage as what you say about the manager mode, the actual players is not a big issue with me but the gameplay is. What about the kits? Are all the stadia made up or is there real stadia in there?

What really gets me about fifa is that they have most of the licences but they can't even get the data right. For example it has teams winning the championship qualifying for Europe. I reckon they take it all for granted really. If I can get the kits I'm willing to give it a go. I heard you can get the kits for PES 09? Thanks again guys.

Yeah you can download a patch that will give you the kits. There's still a fair few licenced teams, just only 2 in Prem :(

There are a fair few real stadiums in the game and a few made up by Konami. Hopefully there'll be more in PES 2010.

One of the things that is most impressive about the Masters League is how accurate it is regarding league standings. It nearly always looks pretty similar to real life.

When I last played manager mode on Fifa, Portsmouth won the league by about 6 points and Arsenal finished 16th???? Not very realistic.

There's a chance that PES2010 could be a totally different animal to PES2009, so I would get the demo instead.

Yeh, I'll definitely get both demos as well!

Don't like demo's, i'll wait to when it is released and get some feedback. Demos can give a false impression sometimes.

Demo's give you a demonstration of what to expect from the game... it says gameplay may change as its not finished

pes 2009 demo was i pile of shit
and im sure many people played it and didnt buy the game because they judged the game by that

shaun7

^Seeing HD videas of gameplay and playing the demo may be enough to actually judge, but I still say, at least rent it first and then fully judge.

I still won't try demos but just try to read as much different feedback as possible when the game is done. Yes you can get the wrong impression by both really but I know enough people who share my tastes to get an informed decision.

I'm hoping PES 2010 will have enough editing functions to make a good experience. FIFA manger mode while having a few more options is riddled with real basic errors for me ruins it.

It bugs me no end that the Championship winners and runners up both qualify automatically for the UEFA Cup. I also had Napoli qualify twice in one season for the UEFA Cup, they were in two different groups at the same time.
