From everything I've heard it's not possible. The PS3 only has 4 way movement apparently, so you can't turn that into true 16 way control.

sorry ps3 has 8 way movement as you can go N,NE,E,SE,S,SW,W,NW
if it was 16 way it would be N,NNE,NE,ENE,E,ESE,SE,SSE,S,SS W,SW,WSW,W,WNW,NW,NNW
unfortunately you cant do this on the dpad, so konami should half the angles by pressing L1 and dpad which will half the angle giving you NNE,ENE,ESE,SSE,SSW,WSW,WNW,NN W

Or, force the players to start using the analogue.

Pressing L1 while pressing the D-pad? Sounds like a bad idea.

Technically it is 4-way as for example NE is the up and right being pressed at the same time but in real terms its 8-way. Anything over 8 way would have to be on the analogue stick.
I'm guessing FIFA10's 360 turning is something like 16 or 32 way control with the animation of the player to make it look smooth like 360.

That's right...
BTW - I have made suggestions in another thread which might partially improve matters without getting rid of the D Pad:

In brief, when you run in PES 09 you only move with "virtual" 16 way movement already, but it doesn't "stick" (after you turn 22.5 degrees you can't stay on that angle). So, they could obviously make it so that the movements stick and give us 16 way movement when running at all times. It wouldn't be a perfect system, because you would have difficulty runing in a long arc over 90 degrees, but who ever does that without slowing down anyway? :erm:

that wouldnt work. im thinking the 8 way movement will be less noticible on PES2010 since there is motion capture now and the player animations and runs will be smoother. 8 way is fine if they know how to hide it

I hate analogue, keep the dpad.
