Konami unveils new 360-degree control system, and more key gameplay advances determined by fan requests
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced that PES 2010 will benefit from 360-degree control and further elevating the unrivalled realism of the title.
The announcement comes following Konami’s close contact with the global network of PES and football fans, who have played a key role in the development of the new game. Via forums and feedback, the PES Productions team in Tokyo has canvassed opinion on elements fans hoped to see included in PES 2010, and 360-degree control was part of the long list.
360-degree control will be available on both the PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360 and PC-DVD versions of the game via the analogue sticks on the respective controllers. The system will allow players to spread the ball with ease, opening up new attacking and defensive possibilities. PLAYSTATION 3 owners will also benefit when using the Dual Shock’s D-Pad, but Xbox 360 and Win D-Pads are limited to eight-directional control due to technical limitations of the hardware.
Konami has also confirmed a number of similarly crowd-pleasing elements as requested by the fan base, including:
Manual Goalkeepers: PES 2010 will be the only football title to offer users complete control of the keeper. Players can switch to their goalkeeper at any time, and will enjoy total control of his actions.
New Goalkeeper Moves: Players can now perform quick under-arm throws to their nearest defender to get attacks rolling more quickly.
All-New Animation: Key animation related to dribbling, running, turning, etc, has been reworked and enhanced, creating a more natural and organic feel to the way players chase down balls, change direction and move around the pitch. The result is a more fluid and natural look to the game.
Fine-tuned Close Control: The PES Productions team has worked to improve trapping of the ball and basic close control elements, giving the user more ways to spread and move the ball around effortlessly.
Manual Ball Request: The ability to demand the ball when running into space is now available to the player, and will be accessible in all game modes, such as multi-player, online, etc.;
Simpler Skills: Moves such as feints, drag backs and upper body feints can be applied more naturally when taking on or trying to beat an opponent. The PES series has long been associated with clever flicks and tricks, and PES 2010 will boast the most to date.
"The PES community has been an incredible asset in the development of PES 2010, and we can finally lift the lid on the many requests the team has been able to meet,” explained Naoya Hatsumi, Producer for PES Productions at Konami Digital Entertainment Japan. “We have strived to make the system work and coupled with the new AI and player elements in the game, it helps make PES 2010 a much richer and more realistic experience.”
“We cannot thank the PES community enough for their unerring support and constant stream of ideas,” commented Jon Murphy, PES European Team Leader. “They have offered a non-stop list of elements and options that has given the team so much to think about. As anyone can see, we are committed to making such things happen, and the addition of 360-degree control and extras such as the manual goalkeepers, being able to demand the ball, and all-new animation shows that the PES team are determined to make PES 2010 the greatest football title imaginable.”
Well there you go, looks like 360 has been confirmed on the Xbox and PC versions after all.

I dont get how the ps3's controller's d pad can do 360 control

Surely the xbox controller's d pad can do 360 control instead

I don't know exactly how it works but the 360's controller has 4 buttons underneath the D-Pad whereas the PS3's controller has some tilt system or something like that. Only just noticed it myself this morning.
i will have to examine my d pad on the controller

Not really considering the Xbox 360 d-pad is shockingly bad anyway, no one I imagine actually uses it. The analog stick works much better, I've been using the Xbox 360 analog stick for years now and with it being placed where it is on the controller, it's just so much more accessible and comfortable.
360 degree movement is on the Xbox 360, that's all that matters to me, and probably everyone.
Hunter's right, i have a ps3, i may try d pad once or twice but i'm an analogue guy
Main thing is that 360 dribbling is in

yer i play analogue all the time i hate the D-pad feels so unresponsive....but from what i read 360 movement is not in 360 (the possibilities for full 360 movement) whether you use analogue or not???

Lost in translation. 360 degree movement is definitely in Xbox 360, however it doesn't work using the Xbox 360 d-pad, just the Xbox 360 analog stick.
It's in.

ah right ok..because i get the game on the PS3 purely for editing so it would seem gay that things are left out for a console...thats all

YES . It is in. It's official too. The xbox 360, ps3 and pc will all ahve 360 movements. But on the ps3 you can play on both analogue and d pad with full 360 movements. That's the difference. On xbox 360 you can only use 360 movements with analogue not d pad.

glad konami havent slowed the pace down to much in pes2010 watching the premiership this weekend shows how fast football is now and its certainly faster then fifa09 take on football.....
^The problem with pes 09 was the super fast build up. That appears to be fixed. But it was still too fast.
Alot of great news really. 360 degree movement is a great, and unexpected inclusion that along with the improved AI should really iron out alot of the gameplay problems and make for a much more realistic football simulation experience imho.
PES will rise once again like the bad mofo it once was :)
So fricking happy, best thing Konami has done is listen to it's fans. To be honest they needed this for new game(360 movement) because if Fifa only had it they know they would have been buggered.

but if you slow the game down to much you loose the enjoyment factor, the best football games have always been slightly exaggerated as it makes them more playable ie pes6 over the slower pes5.
the problem with fifa09 is its to slow and boring and takes itself to seriously which makes it less of a game and more of a boring simulation of football.
im a massive follower of football and watch teams play every week and theres no denying especially in the premeiership the game is so fast now.
when i watched the highlights last night of the premiership and then fired up pes09 the speed of the play was almost indentical although the dribbling 90 degree turns are unrealistic.
what konami always catcher really well is tempo changes wear by the game speeds up and slows down depending on how compact and stretched the play is.

Well I prefer simulations but yeah pes 6 was enjoyable. Although I still prefer pes 5.
I know football is much faster these days. I just hope it isn't as fast as pes 09. I don't think it is.

So glad, I'm a PS3 owner. but cam someone explain to me the goalkeeper bit? How will we be able to control the keeper? will there be a keeper's point-of-view?

Gonna buy me a PS3 now. Being a D Pad man, and already missing out on editting options and music importing, this tips the scales. Plus, free online, a Blueray disc player, and the fact that I know at some point my Xbox 360 is going to die (again) and this time when it's out of warranty... I miss the old dual shock controllers badly too (I currently play with the D Pad on the 360 - not bad once you get used to it actually).

I used to share your same opinion... but nowadays I see it differently, I do not think the "pace of the game" can make anything more fun or more boring. For starters, it's a matter of opinion.
For me the bottom line is that both PES5 and PES6 were good games for their time, miles ahead of FIFA back then -but- they're just not good enough nor immersive enough anymore. Today, I can better appreciatte just how very one-dimensional both games always were.
In PES5, dribbling with the ball and defending against the holder of the ball was a very one-dimensional battle, it required no 'real' skills or thinking. It was fun and addictive, and it could even be played 'competitively' at times... but it was one-dimensional because everything was tied to an 8-directional control.
It's pretty much the same thing with PES6, sure every goal felt and looked different... but the tug on the d-pad or analog was always the same identical procedure.
This is why (imo) some people think that PES5 was slower and in turn more boring than PES6 -because- it was slower and yet it offered nothing else to master, it was tied to 8-directional everything, at a slower pace. It's very understadable that some people find it more boring and realistic than PES6.
But I don't think it's about the pace of the game, I think it's more about having more little things to master. How you dribble with the ball, how you defend against the attacker, how your off-the-ball movement affects everything, intercepting the ball, etc, etc.
For example, with 360-degree controll we should now have a more complex and immersive one-on-one play. It will probably 'force' us into paying more attention, in other words it will be a more immersive experience.
And so no matter how slow the gameplay is, the game will still feel enjoyable because you're always Thinking and perfecting something.
I would compare it with Watchmen the Motion Comic movie, the drawings are very slow and look boring, the colors are dark and boring, but the plot of the comic haves you thinking all the time. And even though it is very slow, it's probably the most remarkable 'movie' I've seen in years, so immersive.
In my opinion, the more realistic the better, and more challenging and rewarding the experience will be.
PS - I don't consider FIFA09 anything close to a "realistic" Football Simulation, it's just an end-to-end arcade game with pretty life-like animations.
^True.
I think that pes 2010 can be something like that though. I just hope for the best.

Isn't it just amazing how, now that PES has 360 dribbling confirmed, fans are saying it would've been "buggered" had FIFA been the only game that had it, when a couple of weeks ago it was just a minor addition in most PES fans' eyes.
This is one of the things I agree with Tech Skill on strongly. I don't agree on the way he feels the need to put things across most of the time, but I see where he's coming from.
360 movement is great and all, but if that's in PES 2010 and the online still isn't up to standard, there'll be an uproar. PES fans deserve good online play. I heard they're moving from the Konami servers, or something along those lines, this time around, so with a bit of luck it'll be sorted.
For Konami, fixing online is a hell of a lot more important than 360 dribbling. Getting both of them right this year along with all of the other updates/fixes supposedly made puts them in with a great chance of over-taking FIFA once again, I think.

I for one always said this:
360 dribbling is a good thing, really good, but nothing too major. I will still say this. 360 has to work fully in order to experience it's real power. You also need 360 AI movements, 360 passing and crossing and shooting aswell. Well, shooting has to be semi assisted otherwise it would be too hard to get used to. Or maybe an option to have semi assisted or manual.
So unless those things are added, 360 movements alone won't be anything really major.
Also I never comment on anything until I see/play it. So I am surley not of of them.;)
