Barbers Adagio For Strings is quite moving, it features in the film 'Platoon' & it is well known. William Orbit turned it into a dance track aswell

I went to see the local Synfonia orchestra a couple of months back with my music class, and quite enjoyed it, though it made me realise that i can't get away with Serialism... Can't remember who it was that composed it, think it might have been Gerhard or something like that (I apologise for lack of memory due to inebriation), but although you had to admire the skill involved in playing it, it just wasn't... for lack of a better word... musical... too mathematical really... There was a really good piece by de Falla or something like that I believe (I know he was a early 20th Century Spanish composer, but can't remember the name for sure...) That was really emotional and great, even if me and my female compatriot spent most of the rest of the night imitating the xylophone/marimba/whatever player who stood up for 2 seconds, played a couple of notes, turned the page, and sat down again for another 5 mins before repeating...

Anywho, unfortunately it's not too easy to get anywhere to see any live music, but to be honest it's getting easier due to a newly acquired driving licence... anyway, don't consider yourself a weirdo for seeing classical music, as it's probably in some shape or form the basis for most modern day music, definately in terms of tonality and harmony, and if you want to try and find something in between the 2 i recommend muse, as Matt Bellamy's fairly inspired by the Classical and Romantic eras of music, as commented upon by my "living in the 1800s" music teacher when i played "Butterflies and Hurricanes" to him the other day...

Anywho, I've rambled enough, so peace out

Gary

I like some classical music, and also some of the orchestral scores to movies are good. I even like some of the national anthems! Brazil's is my favourite.

(and you thought you were a wierdo :p )

Since watching Oldboy(while ago now) I'm really get into the classical stuff. Right now I'm loving Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata opus 27 no. 2 in C sharp minor.

I remember as a young boy having a game called Dr Fraken and it was the background music, I loved it then.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I say, huge bump.

The intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana is immense, I like it all, but the intermezzo is very popular it's used in the Godfather part III and Raging Bull.

I Like the tracks from movies by Ennio Morricone. Early Eastwood movies like fist full of dollars and for a few dollars more. Also the soundtrack to "Once upon a time in America" is another classic. The latter i must add, is part of my collection. I think he covers the Beatles version of 'Yesterday' on the film.

Due to Metallica's S&M, i enjoy some classical music.

The ecstacy of gold is a favourite.

Apolyptica are awesome too!
