View Full Version : Am I mad?
After a fantastic season and a half I have been offered a double-my-money offer from Man United. No.2 team in the world, Champions League football and I think I'm going to turn them down to stay at Aston Villa (Europa League, No.21 in the world, gave me my break and I have taken them to first in the Premier League.)
Am I completly and utterly mad?

I dont think you are mad. You have a first team spot at Villa, why risk it for United? Stay at Villa for another season and see what offers you get then.
MAN UTD CAN BE HARD TO MAKE THE FIRST TEAM. SO STAY FOR ANOTHER SEASON AND PLAY WELL, AND THEN GO WITH A BIG TEAM. At least you'll be a more recognized player.
My one rule when deciding which team to join: avoid Man Utd at all costs :D
I stayed 1 year in Altheric Madrid (ranked 7) and then transfer to Losc Lille (rank 20) in Ligue 1. I think I am mad also :-D
But I got more money when transfer to Losc Lille.
After finish the year Losc Lille, its ranking raise to 8 and I choose to go AZ (rank 37) because of UEFA Europa League rather then UEFA Champion League.

Thats what I have done and went onto score 14 goals in 5 matches, whereas at United I probably wouldnt have got in the team
^After 2 seasons, if you move to a club, even big ones, you will only play 3 matches from the bench and then you'll start.
I confirm...you are mad...
The decision you made was sensible, but for all I know you could still be mad for a plenty of other reasons. Luv the thread name :D

I got a 7.00 rating in my 1st season with Aston Villa, including a couple of trophies. I got offered from Man U, Inter, Live and some other clubs a total of 6 teams. I was thinking of going to Man U, but end up turn them down. I decided to go with Liverpool my 2nd season. There are a few reasons that i turned down Man U. I want to get better when playing for Man U, so i could be a recognizable star :D. But one thing for sure, i will be playing in a different club every season.

No, it was a wise decision...
Unless you're already at a decent level and can out-produce their forwards, it won't be worth the move.
P.S: Does anyone else play Top Player?
Don't think you're mad at all. I always wait until the "right" time to move on. If you're comfortable at villa and the club has ambitions and maybe shop 2-3 good players, then you might be able to get them to the top of premier league. Then if you don't qualify for any european tournaments i'd suggest you move on.

I'm always hoping for a transfer to Spurs... But only get offers from Barca, RM, Chelski and Inter.
Pisses me off.
Guess I'm gonna stay at Zaragoza (My first team) until Spurs offer me a contract (probably never)

This has happened to me twice in a fantastic season and a half united offered me contract I went to them once went on to have good career and rejected them once to stay with villa and kept up my average rating and got offer from real madrid at the end of the season so it's up to you really

i do
Generally, I like to stay at clubs I'm comfortable in for atleast two-three years, regardless of offers coming in.
The fact that you hesitated meant that you probably were comfy in Birmingham and wasn't so sure about United. Stay at Villa Park, mate :)

how many goals and assists did you get and how many matches did you play

Not in the least, especially seeing that if I read that correctly, you'd be in line for some Champions League football at Villa Park in the near future, especially if you can hold that standing in the Premiership...
Same thing happened to me in my BaL I'm currently playing...right now, I'm at FC Lorient in Ligue 1, pulling down around 620 for the year. At the midseason transfer period, Olympique Lyonnais (ranked 10th) offered me 1150! I turned it down for a number of reasons, such as:
OL was in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 standings, while FC Lorient was top of the table.
OL had just bowed out of the Champions League and didn't even finish 3rd in their group, meaning no Europa League parachute for them...
Meanwhile, FCL was not only in the Champions League (after stunning everyone the season before by stealing the Ligue 1 title on the last weekend), they were in the Round of 16
OL had just been eliminated in the Coupe de France competition in the quarters....by FC Lorient...oh the irony!
Yeah, making a move to a "higher" ranked team would have made zero sense this time. Either that or OL just wanted my guy on the team because he seems to have complete and utter ownership of them every time they meet
OL had just bowed out of the Champions League and didn't even finish 3rd in their group, meaning no Europa League parachute for them...
FYI, I believe the 3rd and 4th placed teams in the CL group stage both go on to play in the Europa League.
Don't quote me on that though.
